Abstract:

Abstract:
Flavonoid profiles have been determined for 16 species of Mitella and for the two monotypic genera, Bensoniella and Conimitella. With a single exception the profiles are based upon the flavonols kaempferol, quercetin, and myricetin. The flavanone eriodictyol was seen in two Japanese species of Mitella. The flavonols exist as a series of 7-O-mono-, 3-O-mono-, 3-O-di-, and 3-O-triglycosides, although not all levels of glycosylation occur in each taxon. 7-O-Methylkaempferol and 7-O-methylquercetin were found in M. nuda and M. diphylla; M. nuda also has isorhamnetin. The flavonoids of M. nuda are unique in the genus, but otherwise the distribution of the pigments does not offer support for Rydberg's view of the species being assigned to four genera or Rosendahl's view that Mitella comprises two sections. The flavonoid profile of Bensoniella oregona clearly distinguishes it from Mitella. Flavonoid data for Conimitella williamsii agree in general with those of a moderately advanced species of Heuchera in agreement with Savile's views on the origin of Conimitella. Our results are discussed in terms of the recent finding that Conimitella and Mitella form natural hybrids.

Abstract:
Abstract Capitulum mitella is an important species in the intertidal ecosystem and in the economy in China. This study explored the genetic diversity and population structure of C. mitella using mitochondrial 16S ribosomal subunit (16S rRNA) gene sequences. The researchers sequenced a 527 bp fragment of 16S rRNA from 390 samples collected from six localities along Western Taiwan Strait and identified 45 distinct haplotypes with an average haplotype diversity (h) of 0.451 and an average nucleotide diversity (π) of 0.00124. The pairwise statistics and AMOVA indicated a lack of significant population structure. The results indicated a recent expansion of the population of C. mitella in the study area. This expansion, combined with the species’ high dispersal capabilities, limited physical barriers, and the influence of oceanic currents, may be the factors contributing to its current phylogeographic structure. This study provides particularly important information for managing and protecting the resources of C. mitella in Southern China.

Abstract:
AbstractCapitulum mitella is a tropical/sub-tropical intertidal barnacle of high economic value. However, no studies have yet focused on the effects of the extrinsic and intrinsic factors that affect the metamorphosis of this species. The current study stored cyprids at room temperature (24–26°C) and low temperature (7°C) and then compared the effects of age and storage temperature on cyprid metamorphosis. The effects of salinity and temperature on cyprid metamorphosis and survival were examined. Results showed the following. (1) Young 0-day cyprids were not competent to metamorphose, and C. mitella cyprids had a pre-competent phase. (2) The cyprid metamorphosis percentage at different storage temperatures with the same age was higher at room temperature than at 7°C. Low temperature storage of cyprids appeared to be unsuitable for C. mitella. The ideal storage time at room temperature for cyprids was 3–5 days. (3) The cyprids could complete metamorphosis at a salinity range of 20–45 mg l−1, and the optimum salinity range for metamorphosis was 25–35 mg l−1. At 15 mg l−1 salinity, the cyprids could survive but failed to metamorphose. (4) The cyprids could survive and complete metamorphosis at 18–36°C, and the optimum temperature range for metamorphosis was 21–33°C. The metamorphosis of C. mitella cyprids can tolerate a wide spectrum of salinity and temperature, which is related to the distribution location, habitat environment and lifestyle. Results of this study may provide a basis for the settlement biology, recruitment ecology and aquaculture of this species.

Background: Capitulum mitella is a widely distributed and ecologically important stalked barnacle that settles extensively on rocky shores. This species contributes to the structural complexity of intertidal habitats and plays a critical role in the marine ecosystem. This study aimed to reveal the genetic diversity and population structure of C. mitella by analyzing the mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase I (COI) gene. Methods: A 683bp fragment of the COI gene was sequenced from 390 individuals sampled from six localities in Fujian, China. Results: A total of 84 distinct haplotypes were identified through the analysis of 82 polymorphic sites, resulting in an average haplotype diversity (h) of 0.660 and nucleotide diversity (π) of 0.00182. Analysis of molecular variance (AMOVA) and pairwise FST statistics showed no significant population structure. Neutrality tests and mismatch distributions provided evidence of recent population expansion for the species. Conclusions: We suggest that the species' high dispersal ability, and ocean currents coupled with limited physical barriers in the region, contribute to its current phylogeographic structure. These findings enhance our comprehension of the genetic diversity and population structure of C. mitella, providing valuable insights for future conservation efforts.

Abstract:
Comparative morphology of the cement delivery apparatus of three lepadomorph barnacles indicates that the lepadid Lepas anatifera is unable to relocate voluntarily, whereas the two scalpellids Pollicipes pollicipes and Capitulum mitella can. Mean relocation speeds of up to 50 μm d−1 were measured for both scalpellids, which are probably underestimates of maximal rates given the absence of a directed stimulus. In the laboratory neither gravity nor unidirectional flow proved effective stimuli in directing scalpellid relocation. The two scalpellid species use quite different mechanisms to effect relocation at a leading edge of the base, although both slough basal material at the trailing edge. It is suggested that basal growth effectively accounts for the mobility of P. pollicipes but C. mitella is likely to employ muscular activity.

Abstract:
In this paper, metamorphosis of laboratory-reared cyprids of the pedunculate cirripede, Capitulum mitella was successfully induced. A timeline and a detailed description of morphological events during metamorphosis were derived from light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy analyses. The metamorphic process of cyprids involves five main events. (1) Triggering of metamorphosis: after 0–6 h of reagent exposure, the epidermis ventral to the compound eyes gradually invaginates. (2) Invagination and separation of epidermis: after 6–36 h, the invagination bypasses the compound eyes, the cypris epidermis separates slightly from the carapace and the nauplius eye gradually migrates ventrally. (3) Formation of juvenile rudiment: after 36–72 h, the metamorphosing specimen shape slightly resembles that of a juvenile. (4) Shedding of thoracopodal exuvium: after 72–96 h, the cyprid finally sheds the thoracopodal exuvium and metamorphoses into a juvenile barnacle. (5) Early development of juvenile barnacle: the juvenile shed the cirrum cuticle for the first, second, third and fourth time at 1.5–2, 1.5–2, 4–5 and 5–6 days, respectively. The newly formed juvenile completely assumes the shape and armature of all shell-plates found in adult barnacle. Rostro-carnal length of the juvenile is 240–260 μm. Tergum, scutum and upper latus are paired, and carina and rostrum are unpaired. Uniform circular depressions are dispersed on the surface of the tergum, scutum and carina. The rostrum and upper latus, which have the shape of small triangle, are not clear. The entire surface of the peduncle is covered with convoluted cuticular ridges. The metamorphosis of C. mitella is similar to that of Lepas.

Abstract:
Larval development of Capitulum mitella (Cirripedia: Pedunculata) comprises six nauplius stages and a cyprid. Unilobed labrum, a larval trait of pedunculate and chthamalid barnacles, bears two groups of slender hairs and two pairs of strong teeth on the distal labral margin, and a pair of teeth on the lateral labral margin. Frontolateral horns extended under the anterior cephalic shield margin are diagnostic features through all nauplius stages. The posterior border of the cephalic shield bears a pair of distal cephalic shield spines in nauplius stages II and III, and a pair of long posterior shield spines in nauplius stages IV, V and VI. A hispid seta is consistently found at the fourth group of the antennal endopodite through stages II–VI. The dorsal thoracic spine, abdominal process and the paired posterior shield spines have numerous small spines. Morphological features such as the cephalic shield, labrum, abdominal process, antennules, antennae and mandibles in all nauplius and cyprid stages are illustrated and described. In this species, the numerical setations of the antennule are found to be beneficial for intra-specific identification of barnacle nauplius stages without the need for dissection.

Abstract:
Adult specimens ofCapitulum mitellawere collected in August 2011 in the intertidal zone of Dinghai, Fuzhou, Fujian, China (26°16′N 119°48′E). The morphology of the cypris larva reared under our conditions was determined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Special emphasis was given to the carapace, lattice organs, antennules, thoracopods and furcal rami. The whole carapace surface is sculptured by slender ridges demarcating rectangular or irregular polygonal areas with very fine pores. The cyprid possesses five pairs of lattice organs, arranged as two anterior and three posterior pairs. The second segment carries a preaxial seta 2 and a postaxial seta 2. The third segment carries a postaxial seta 3 outside the attachment disc, whereas a postaxial disc seta, an axial disc seta and two radial disc setae are located inside the attachment disc. The attachment disc is somewhat bell shaped. A series of slender cuticular flaps forms a distinct ‘velum’ around the base of the disc. The fourth segment carries four subterminal setae and five terminal setae. The cyprid bears six pairs of biramous natatory thoracopods consisting of a protopod (coxa + basis), a two-segmented exopod and a two-segmented endopod. The cyprid possesses a rudimentary abdomen and an almost completely cleaved telson with a pair of one-segmented furcal rami. The morphology and setation of the antennules ofC. mitellaresemble those ofBalanus amphitrite(=Amphibalanus amphitrite) andMegabalanus rosa, but differ in some morphological details.

Abstract:
Two species of the monostiliferous hoplonemerteans, Nemertopsis quadripunctata (Quoy & Gaimard, 1833) and Nemertopsis mitellicola sp. nov., are reported from Shirahama, Wakayama, Japan, based on material obtained among the gooseneck barnacle, Capitulum mitella (Linnaeus, 1767). Redescription of Nemertopsis quadripunctata provides some anatomical features not reported in previous literature; these include: the rhynchodaeum opening to the dorsal portion of the oesophagus in front of the brain, and the oesophagus leading farther anteriorly to open subterminally to the exterior as a mouth; mid-dorsal vessel entering the rhynchocoel to form a single vascular plug; and the epidermis possessing a small pit in cross section, the pit being antero-posteriorly continuous, forming a complete sagittal furrow in the post-cerebral region of the body for at least 1 cm in length. Nemertopsis mitellicola sp. nov differs from all the congeners in having a spirally sculptured central stylet, lateral diverticula on the intestinal caecum, and a cephalic patch, from which two longitudinal dorsal stripes extend backward.

Abstract:
The vegetation of Voyageurs National Park, Minnesota, U.S.A., was investigated, in part to establish a plant community classification system that would be useful to park managers and naturalists, and to evaluate short-term changes within plant communities. Samples from 120 stands were ordinated and classified on the basis of synecological coordinates, a system of ecological coordinates relating floristics to physical site conditions. Along indirect gradients of moisture and nutrient conditions, 12 ecological types were distinguished. Within each ecological type, it is expected that stands of diverse cover types will tend to converge, over a period of 150–200 years, on an edaphically constrained “climax” community characteristic of that ecological type, given present management practices and disturbance regimes. Permanent plots were established in 46 stands to permit future testing of these projections. Ecological types, named for expected dominants and for a typical undergrowth species or genus, include (1) jack pine – oak – Arctostaphylos; (2) red pine – white pine – Linnaea; (3) fir–spruce–birch–Lycopodium; (4) fir–birch–Mitella; (5) oak–maple–Uvularia; (6) ash–elm–Trillium; (7) black ash – Caltha; (8) white cedar – Coptis; (9) black spruce – Alnus; (10) black spruce – Kalmia; (11) leatherleaf (Chamaedaphne) bog; and (12) marsh.

Abstract:
Changes in size strongly influence organisms' ecological performances. For aquatic organisms, they can transition from viscosity- to inertia-dominated fluid regimes as they grow. Such transitions are often associated with changes in morphology, swimming speed and kinematics. Barnacles do not fit into this norm as they have two morphologically distinct planktonic larval phases that swim differently but are of comparable sizes and operate in the same fluid regime (Reynolds number 10 0 –10 1 ). We quantified the hydrodynamics of the rocky intertidal stalked barnacle Capitulum mitella from the nauplius II to cyprid stage and examined how kinematics and size increases affect its swimming performance. Cyprids beat their appendages in a metachronal wave to swim faster, more smoothly, and with less backwards slip per beat cycle than did all naupliar stages. Micro-particle image velocimetry showed that cyprids generated trailing viscous vortex rings that pushed water backwards for propulsion, contrary to the nauplii's forward suction current for particle capture. Our observations highlight that zooplankton swimming performance can shift via morphological and kinematic modifications without a significant size increase. The divergence in ecological functions through ontogeny in barnacles and the removal of feeding requirement likely contributed to the evolution of the specialized, taxonomically unique cyprid phase.

Abstract:
Background: Caesarean section (CS) is one of the commonest obstetrics procedure to reduce the risks for mother and fetus when vaginal delivery is not anticipated. The objective of the study was to determine the rate and clinical indication of Caesarean section. Materials and Methods: This was a hospital based descriptive retrospective study done within a time frame of a year (from Shrawan 2075 BS to Ashad 2076 BS; 17 July 2018 to July 16 2019) in Matri Shishu Miteri Hospital, Pokhara, Nepal. The total number of deliveries, their modes of delivery, indication for the Cesarean section, age group, number of parity, period of gestation and type of Caesarean section either elective or emergency were descriptively analyzed. Results: A total of five hundred and eighty eight cases underwent delivery during the study period. Of them 128 (21.76%) cases were delivered by Caesarean section. Analysis revealed that the common age group for the CS patients was between 20-30 years (64.8%) of them 66 (51.6%) cases were primi gravida. Emergency Caesarean section was done for 75(58.6%) cases and elective Caesarean section for 53(41.4%) cases. The most common indication for Caesarean section was found to be previous caesarean section 21% (n=27), cephalopelvic disproportion (CPD) 18% (n=23), fetal distress 18% (n=23), failed induction 14.1% (n=18), breech presentation 10.2 %( n=13), non progress of labor (NPOL) 9.4 %( n=12) and oligohydramnios 7.8% (n=10). Conclusion: Our study revealed that the rate of Caesarean section is higher than that recommended by World Health Organization (WHO), which needed to be 10-15% of the total deliveries. The common indications for Caesarean sections were pervious Caesarean section, fetal distress, CPD, failed induction, breech presentation, non progress of labour (NPOL) and oligohydramnios among others.

Abstract:
A program of early postoperative rehabilitation (kinesy therapy and education) has been conducted since 1996 in our Department for Rehabilitation at the Institute of Oncology in Sremska Kamenica. The aim of this program is to prevent the appearance of secondary lymphedema of the arm and the contacture of the shoulder. Unless the patient, in further follow up, does not have any complication, a program of "late" rehabilitation is conducted. If secondary lymphedema of the arm (SLEA) is evolved, then the patient is submitted to a complex of decongestive physical therapy (CDP) or CDP and sequential pneumatic compression (SEPC). However if SLEA and local alterations on the skin exist, we immobilize the arm (mitela, plaster). In other cases without SLEA, e.g. periarthritis or the damage of brachial plexus, we perform physical procedures (kinesy therapy TENS, kryo-massage and acupuncture). With regard to the degree of complication of SLEA and consequences that might develop the starting point should be directed towards early detection of SLEA.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Introduction/purpose: To specify the practical application of ECMA355 and ECMA-336 Standards for Q-SIG tunneling and the implementation of mapping functions via the existing IP (Internet Protocol) network of the Serbian Armed Forces (Intranet SAF), in the Private Automatic Telephone Network SAF (PATN SAF), as the main part of the Private telecommunication-information networks of integrated services SAF (PISN SAF). Methods: Description of the implemented solution and analysis of the software parameters of the established transmission SIP route, with the display of the results obtained in the fight with jitter and echo in the network. Results: With such a solution, it was achieved that participants from the peripheral parts of the PISN SAF, which operate on the principle of transmission and circuit switching by TDM (Time Division Multiplexing), can connect with each other via the newly established central IP network SAF (Core network) which operates on the principle of transmission and switching packets with the SIP (Session Initiation Protocol), without losing the functionality of QSIG from the framework of the digital telecommunication network of integrated services ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network). Conclusion: The article deals with the modern IP PINX (Private Integrated Services Network Exchange) manufactured by Mitel, type MX-ONE Service Node 6.0, which is implemented at the transit level PATN SAF and which successfully implements the process of tunneling Q-SIG through the IP network and the necessary functions for mapping the transmission of tunneled QSIG messages and mapping voice (and other audio) information to VoIP (Voice over IP) communication media streams through that network. Also, the basic elements for its software preparation during the introduction of a new SIP route, with a capacity of 30 IP trunks in a transmission beam realized with 100 Mb/s-T Ethernet, are given, and the fight with the present jitter and echo in the network is described. Finally, the paper presents the experience-based values of the parameters for reducing the influence of jitter and suppressing echo.

Abstract:
This paper is a branch of my previous research, dealing with allegorical and persuasive cartography, as an exercise in more recent theoretical interpretations of marginalized historical sources – caricatures. The introduction gives the readers an overview of the modern methodology and secondary literature. Furthermore, Giuseppe Maria Mitelli (1634–1718) is unknown to our audience. Therefore, this paper cannot deal with his immenseoeuvre, but only one example of his mastery, the caricature “An International Array of Doctors Counselling the Sultan”. This engraving is dated approximately to 1696, or slightly later, to the last phase of the War of the Holy League (1683–1699). The staging and the characters, as presented in the analysis, show beyond doubt a strong influence from commedia dell’arte in costumes and apparel, recognizing the oldest stock images of Dottore Gracian, originating in Mitelli’s Bologna, and Pantalone, who is precisely attributed to the “medico Venetiano”. This “icono-text” merges visual arts and comedy theatre with text, criticizing the Christian “nations” for their lack of unity in opposing the common foe and nemesis – the Ottoman sultan. The satire is more pronounced in the para-text, adequately written for each one of the actors, including those without the lyrics – headfirst fleeing grand vizier Kara Mustapha, and wool spinning Protestant Prince Imre Thököly, doing the woman’s and not the warrior’s task. Including the sultan, historians have plenty of material for an imagology analysis from the point of view of a witty Bolognese, well-educated and informed, placed in a hub of the baroque network of Europe, bursting with “furor geographicus” and the sound of the printing machines, street vendors, artisans, and carnivals. As any intellectual work, Mitelli’s art piece is placed within its historical-geographical, cultural and socio-political context.
