Traditional elastoplastic analysis presumes that all structural data are known exactly. However, these values often cannot be predicted precisely: they are influenced by such factors as manufacturing errors, material defects, and environmental changes. Ignoring these may lead to inaccurate (overly conservative or nonconservative) results. It is thus important that the effects of uncertain data be quantified in a reliable assessment of structural safety. This paper presents the elastoplastic analysis of skeletal frames with uncertaintiesassumed to be interval quantities (i.e. with known upper a

Hydro-economic river basin models (HERBM) based on mathematical programming are conventionally formulated as explicit ‘aggregate optimization’ problems with a single, aggregate objective function. In the absence of perfect water markets, however, individually optimal decisions by water users will differ from the social optimum. Moreover, the pressure and its complements satisfy non-negativity constraints. The solution intrinsically decomposes

By investigating the generalized Jacobi of a composite vector-valued maximum function, a nonsmooth Levenberg–Marquardt algorithm is proposed in this paper. Abstract China’s natural gas market is focusing on price reform and aims to reconstruct vertically integrated industrial chains in the future. Based on the mixed complementarity problem model of gas markets with nodes in Henan Province, China, as an example, this paper applies numerical modeling to simulate the effects of social welfare and equilibrium prices on nodes in two scenarios: pipeline integration and pipeline separation. The findings reveal the following: (1) Pipeline separation yields greater overall social welfare than pipeline integration, with the welfare shifting from gas produc

Abstract:
Health workforce planning aims to meet a health system’s needs with a sustainable and fit-for-purpose workforce, although its efficacy is reduced in conditions of uncertainty. This PhD breakthrough article offers foresight as a means of addressing this uncertainty and models its complementarity in the context of the health workforce planning problem. The article summarises the findings of a two-case multi-phase mixed method study that incorporates actor analysis, scenario development and policy Delphi. This reveals a few dominant actors of considerable influence who are in conflict over a few

Abstract:
Despite the significant advances of Brazilian agriculture, transportation and storage costs still constitute the main barriers to the Brazilian agribusiness. The aim of this article is to analyze the effect of segregation of maize and soybeans in the Brazilian transport and storage logistics, especially genetically modified grains. In the context of the guidelines of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (CPB) as well as of the competitiveness in the international market, we develop a spatial equilibrium model in the form of a mixed complementarity problem.
