A model of local elevator basis levels was developed to quantify the response of corn, soybean and hard red spring wheat basis to a set of predefined predictors. Basis data from 2013 ? 2016 for 12 grain elevators in Eastern North Dakota were collected. A maximum likelihood mixed effect model was used to test the significance of alternative predictor variables and further divided the residuals into temporal and spatial components. Livestock is an important component of mixed crop-livestock farming systems in the Singida Region in Tanzania, directly or indirectly contributing to household income, food security and poverty reduction among rural people in the region. This paper examined the effect of livestock on crop commercialisation and farmers’ livelihoods in the region. The complementarity between crops and livestock in the farming systems of Singida needs to be recognised, enhanced and utilised not only by farmers and livestock keepers, but also by local government authorities and development practitioners.

This study provides insights into a specific, hard-to-reach youth subpopulation—those born in agricultural areas in Western Kenya who migrate to large towns and cities—that is often missed by research and development activities. Using a mixed-methods approach, we find high variability in movement of youth between rural villages, towns, and large urban areas.
