To demystify the process, it presents the evolution of a study of six coastal communities from a mixed methods qualitative and quantitative approach to a qualitative macroethnography. Intending to employ an innovative method, the Factorial Survey Approach, the researcher confronted serious challenges in the process, engendering reflections on (a) the limitations of the method, specifically in fishing communities, (b) the pressure to prove methodological bilingualism as an interdisciplinary graduate student, and (c) individual ontological growth. The chapter considers the collective tendency in (social) science to conceal the imperfections of field research, obscuring insights gained from situations when things do not go according to plan.

Abstract:
AbstractSmall electric vehicles (SEVs) have the potential to contribute to climate protection, efficient land use, and mitigation of air pollution in cities. Even though, they show many benefits that could enhance urban quality of life, they are not yet widely used. In this paper, benefits as well as drawbacks for these vehicles are discussed by combining literature research and outcomes of a mixed-method approach with expert interviews and an online survey. Resulting from these arguments, a vision for SEVs in urban areas is drawn showing them integrated in a mix of various transport modes. Environmental benefits are derived, for example, from their lower weight and low maximum speed making them a more energy-efficient transport option than heavier cars. Additionally, the small vehicle size lowers land use for SEVs and, e.g., allows for less parking areas needed. However, they also hold constraints that need to be dealt with in different ways. On the one hand, the lower safety compared to passenger cars is an issue that is further worsened by current traffic regulations. On the other hand, costs in terms of purchase prices seem to be an issue for SEVs.

Abstract:
Researchers are calling on practitioners to use more robust mixed-method approaches in program and product evaluations in the global development sector. Using qualitative and quantitative research methods from both experimental engineering and applied anthropology fields can provide more holistic and accurate information regarding potential impact and application of a product or program in its actual usage context. This paper presents a mixed-method approach for the evaluation of a new water treatment technology, the InStove Water Purifier. A combination of technical and ethnographic methods a

Abstract Interest in Concurrent Engineering (CE) has increased as industry looks for more efficient means of product design. Design optimization methods that facilitate the CE approach are an important aspect of current research. Among the methods that have been proposed is the Concurrent Subspace Optimization (CSSO) method, which allows the optimization problem to be decomposed into coupled subproblems. These subproblems may correspond to the different disciplines involved in the design process or to participating organizational design or manufacturing groups. The decomposition allows each di

Aim/Purpose: This research paper reports on the evaluation of a mental health self-management program provided to immigrant nurses working at various rural South Australian aged care services. Background: The residential aged care staffing crisis is severe in rural areas. To improve immigrant nurses’ employment experiences, a mental health self-management program was developed and conducted in rural and regional health care services in South Australia. Methodology: A mixed approach of pre- and post-surveys and post workshop focus groups was utilized with the objectives of exploring the experie

Research in Indigenous contexts has historically been associated with colonialism. To counter this, recent Indigenous research re-centers knowledge production on Indigenous worldviews and voices. As a settler ally, I have conducted a scoping review of Canadian Indigenous research using a mixed method approach (Western and Indigenous), adopting Arksey and O’Malley (2005) scoping methodology (for initial five steps) and Kovach’s (2010) Indigenous conversational method for consultations. The aim of this scoping review is to map out the praxis of Indigenous research by examining current epistemolo
