Abstract:

This paper develops the view presented in our 1997 paper “Varieties of Quotation”. In the first part of the paper we show how phenomena such as scare quotes, echoing and mimicry can be treated as what we call Speech-Act Heuristics. We then defend a semantic account of mixed quotation. Along the way we discuss the role of indexicals in mixed quotation and the non-cancelability of reference to words in mixed quotation. We also respond to some objections raised by Recanati, Saka, Stainton and Reimer.

Abstract We prove in this paper the Ax–Lindemann–Weierstraß theorem for all mixed Shimura varieties and discuss the lower bounds for Galois orbits of special points of mixed Shimura varieties. In particular, we reprove a result of Silverberg [57] in a different approach. Then combining these results we prove the André–Oort conjecture unconditionally for any mixed Shimura variety whose pure part is a subvariety of {\mathcal{A}_{6}^{n}} and under the Generalized Riemann Hypothesis for all mixed Shimura varieties of abelian type.

This chapter presents a case study illustrating the validity of employing a mixed-methods approach based on a draw-a-map task and semi-structured sociolinguistic interviews in language attitude research of a New Englishes context. This is illustrated by the analysis of two data sets. First, 49 participants drew perceptual maps of St Kitts and Nevis. Raw spirits were produced through distillation of apple wines obtained by fermentation of selected varieties of apples. Two types of apple wine were obtained using different apple varieties. In the first case, the wine was obtained from two types of apples: Red Elstar and Vilmuta. In the Federal Scientific Center "VIK im. V. R. Williams” conducted research on the evaluation of new varieties of spring and winter colza Zarya and Nadezhda when growing broiler chickens of the Cobb 500 cross. The control group received compound feed without rapeseed seeds. The first and second experimental groups included 7.5% by weight of mixed fodder native rapeseed seeds of Zarya and Nadezhda varieties, which were used to replace part of soybean meal and sunflower oil.
