Full text'mixed music' describes a form of music which combines an instrumental and or vocal score with pre-set taped sounds. It first appeared in the early 1950's and led to an enormous amount of experimental work by individual composers (alvarez, harvey, holler, mache, malec, nono, risset, stockhausen, stroppa, vaggione, vinao. . . ), with the application of recent technological advances to music, different types of musical production have merged into the concept of 'contemporary music'. We can now look at the development of mixed music by dividing it into three categories 'lives electronic music'. Real-time's electronic music and mixed music. A study of the mixed music repertoire shows a style of composition evolving gradually round the concept of fusing and opposing the two worlds of instrumental and elctronic music. Together they form an aesthetic entity, while creating an impression of double, hybrid, illusion and ambiguity. . . Plan : history, aesthetics and repertoire of mixed music

Full textWe generalize the notion of a mixed Weil theory, introduced by D. -C. Cisinski and F. Déglise in [CD12a], in order to obtain a formalism of Tannakian realization functors on V. Voevodsky’s triangulated mixed motives over schemes of finite type over a perfect field. We apply this formalism to the construction of a rational mixed Hodge realization functor. For a scheme X, smooth, quasi-projective over a characteristic zero field , we obtain a de Rham realization functor with values in the derived category of holonomic DX=-modules. This allows us to deduce a purely algebraic Riemann-Hilbert correspondence

Full textHis research deals with the behaviour and design of piled raft foundations, when these make use of the combined actions of both the raft and the piles to carry the loads of the structure. The first part of the thesis is devoted to vertical loading. A literature review on the development of piled-raft foundations since the 1970's is presented (chapter I). The main aspects of the foundation behaviour are discussed through case histories of different types of structures, including buildings and bridges, in France and in other countries. Issues related to the determination of the ultimate bearing capacity (chapter II) and settlements (chapter III) are addressed through a comparison of design methods and real field data. The results of a full-scale static loading test, performed specifically for this project, are analysed (chapter IV). The test was carried out on an instrumented pile, driven in stiff Flandrian clay and capped with a footing. In the second part, a practical design method is proposed for the piled-raft system under horizontal loading (chapter V). This method is applied to several full-scale tests : instrumented pile groups, carried at Bucknell University in the United States, and the foundation of a small dam located in the Mont-Saint-Michel Bay in France (chapter VI). The third part of the thesis is devoted to foundations subjected to overturning moments. Results of a full-scale static loading test, carried out during this research, on the foundations of a noise barrier, are analysed. This foundation was made of two instrumented micropiles connected by a rigid cap resting directly on the ground (chapter VII). Issues related to the actual behaviour of the foundation are examined, with particular attention to the assessment of displacements, which are of prime importance for the design of this type of structure (chapter VIII)

Full textThe interaction of water with actinides oxide surfaces remains poorly understood. The adsorption of water on PuO2 surface and (U,Pu)O2 surface leads to hydrogen generation through radiolysis but also surface evolution. The study of water interaction with mixed oxide (U,Pu)O2 and PuO2 surfaces requires the implementation of non intrusive techniques. The study of the hydration of CeO2 surface is used to study the effectiveness of different techniques. The results show that the water adsorption leads to the surface evolution through the formation of a hydroxide superficial layer. The reactivity of water on the surface depends on the calcination temperature of the oxide precursor. The thermal treatment of hydrated surfaces can regenerate the surface. The study on CeO2 hydration emphasizes the relevancies of these techniques in studying the hydration of surfaces. The hydrogen generation through water radiolysis is studied with an experimental methodology based on constant relative humidity in the radiolysis cell. The hydrogen accumulation is linear for the first hours and then tends to a steady state content. A mechanism of hydrogen consumption is proposed to explain the existence of the steady state of hydrogen content. This mechanism enables to explain also the evolution of the oxide surface during hydrogen generation experiments as shown by the evolution of hydrogen accumulation kinetics. The accumulation kinetics depends on the dose rate, specific surface area and the relative humidity but also on the oxide aging. The plutonium percentage appears to be a crucial parameter in hydrogen accumulation kinetics

Full textIn France, in 2014, health expenditures represented EUR 190 billion. This figure grows year after year; 76.6% is financed by a compulsory social insurance (Assurance Maladie), with contributions proportional to income; 13.5% is financed by private complementary insurances and 8.5% is financed directly by households in the form of out-of-pockets. The relationship between Social Health Insurance (SHI) and Private Health Insurance (PHI) is what characterises a mixed system.Within mixed systems, insurances can complement each other but also interact in inefficient ways. In a first part, I study a system where SHI can be complemented by a complementary or supplementary private insurance. Whereas there was a confusion in the theoretical literature between complementary and supplementary insurances, we find that these insurances can have opposing effects. This model underlines the importance of the nature of the health good (in terms of elasticity) insured by SHI on the optimal rate of social insurance. The higher the rate of low income individual purchasing the socially insured good, the higher the redistributive effect of insurance will be. Marginal utility of poor individuals being higher than high income individuals, I find that using an unweighted additive welfare function, the optimal social insurance rate of insurance is positively related to the redistributive characteristic of insurance. In this first part we underline that the selection of goods that should be insured privately depends on the definition of social insurance. The second part studies what criteria should be used to select the goods to socially insure. At the heart of the selection of goods to socially insure is the possibility of comparing individual preferences debated extensively within welfare economics and formalised by Arrow’s incompatibility theorem. The equivalent income principal developed by Fleurbaey et al. (2013) offers to overcome this limitation. This ordinal criteria, defined as the income in perfect health which yields the same satisfaction as the income in a sick state (i.e. the income in good health minus the willingness to pay to be in good health), allows making interpersonal comparisons. By adapting a theoretical model studying the optimal selection of goods to insure socially (Hoel, 2007) and by using the equivalent income criteria, we find that the introduction of private health insurance decreases the marginal benefit of social insurance. This modifies the ranking function and decreases the optimal social budget, leaving uninsured individuals facing the impossibility to use certain efficient treatments.Whereas the second part revealed what treatment social insurance should first renounce reimbursing in a within a limited budget, the last chapter studies a market characterised by minimal social participation. The market of eyewear (glasses) is characterised by strong asymmetric information and product differentiation. Beyond financing health expenditures, we ask whether, similarly to social insurance, PHI are able to reduce the effects of market failures and manage health expenditures. Following the literature on managed-care and competition for the right to serve a demand, the effect of networks of preferred provides on prices is analysed. Using an exclusive dataset of all purchases in eyewear made by MGEN (Mutuelle Générale de l’Education Nationale) enrollees between 2012 and 2014, we test empirically the effect of the network on the number of purchases and the prices of lenses. The effect of competition for the network and in the market on prices of unifocal and bifocal lenses, within 450 areas of France, is estimated. We find that competition for the network reduces significantly prices of purchases made inside the network and competition in the market reduces prices outside the network

Full textRecent advances in modern construction have led to the systematic use of combined concrete slab and timber beams as a horizontal load bearing structural component, the latter playing an identical role as steel beams in a composite concrete steel floor. Unfortunately the well-established rules governing the design of shear connectors for structural composite concrete-steel floors cannot be applied directly to wood-concrete composite structural elements due to the nature of the bond that exists between wood and connecting elements. Thus the thesis was aimed at investigating the mechanical behavior of two types of shear connector using static tests. They consisted of a dowel-type connector with a metal base plate and a tubular connector. Using a shear test rig preliminary lateral and axial resistance of different nails, screws with and without disc springs as well as punched metal plates were investigated. These were compared with Eurocode 4 recommendations and the observations led to the design and testing of standardized pushout specimens for both connector types according to the provisions of Eurocode 4. Two predictive techniques were developed to account for the serviceability limit state as well as the ultimate resistance of the connectors. For the former, an elastic model was used to predict the load-deformation characteristics of the dowel through an exact stiffness formulation of a beam on elastic foundation. While the ultimate resistance was based on a modified Johansen yield model. Comparisons between the theoretical and experimental results were found to be in good agreement

Full textWe present in that document a meta-model of aquatic ecosystem which is multi-scale and uses hybrid approaches. Ecosystems are complex systems. Therefore, the model is made to give a performant description of multi-level interactions occuring in them. Thus, we propose a multi-scale and multi-level meta-model designed as an holarchy and embodying different approaches (equationnal, individual-based,. . . . ). Moreover, we present an ontology of the meta-model which help users understand and use that one. The methodology to apply the meta-model on a concrete problem using the ontology is shown. Finally, a plateform allowing using to compute their model as far as those ones respect the meta-model assumptions is described. Then, we introduce technics to detect, reify and handle emerging systems during the simulations. Those technics are based on the analysis of the interaction network of predator-preys simulation

Full textIn this work, the aim was to investigate the interactions between two families of molecules which can be individually organizing a wide variety of supramolecular assemblies. The first family is the cyclodextrins which are known for their ability to form host-guest inclusion complexes with a wide variety of organic and inorganic compounds, changing most of chemical and physical properties of the guest molecules. The second family is the polar lipids which are known for their ability to organize spontaneously into a wide variety of supramolecular assemblies including liquid crystalline structures of different topologies such as a cubic, hexagonal or lamellar structures, micelles, microemulsions and vesicles. We were more particularly interested in buildings formed from two types of lipids having several properties of solubility in water: the first is a non-ionic alkyl glycosides, the octyl β-D-glucopyranoside, and, the secondly is polar lipids of class II, the phosphatidylcholine

Full textThe growing complexity of modern chips poses challenging test problems due to the requirement for specialized test equipment and the involved lengthy test times. This is particularly true for heterogeneous chips that comprise digital, analogue, and RF blocks onto the same substrate. Many research efforts are currently under way in the mixed-signal test domain. Theses efforts concern optimization of tests at the production stage (e. G. Off-line) or during the lifetime of the chip (on-line test). A promising research direction is the integration of additional circuitry on-chip, aiming to facilitate the test application (Design For Test) and/or to perform Built-In-Self-Test. The efficiency of such test techniques, both in terms of test accuracy and test cost, must be assessed during the design stage. However, there is an alarming lack of CAT tools, which are necessary, in order to facilitate the study of these techniques and, thereby, expedite their transfer into a production setting. In this thesis, we develop a CAT platform that can be used for the validation of analogue test techniques. The platform includes tools for fault modeling, injection and simulation, as well as tools for analogue test vector generation and optimization. A new statistical method is proposed and integrated into the platform, in order to assess the quality of test techniques during the design stage. This method aims to set the limits of the considered test criteria. Then, the different test metrics (as Fault coverage, Defect level or Yield loss) are evaluated under the presence of parametric and catastrophic faults. Some specific tests can be added to improve the structural fault coverage. The CAT platform is integrated in the Cadence design framework environment

Full textIn this work, the preparation of chitosan-coated alginate fibers by a wet spin process and the characterization of these fibers, particularly their antibacterial activities are presented. A pilot scale spinning machine was developed during this thesis for the elaboration of calcium alginate fibers. These last, preformed produced were immersed in chitosan acetate solutions. Three coagulation methods of the chitosan coating were explored two of which consist to the immersion of the fibers in a neutralizing bath: a calcium hydroxide solution or a potassium hydroxide solution. The last method is to neutralize chitosan by drying under hot air blown. Structural, mechanical and absorption characterization of fibers and a dose of the coated chitosan have been made. Furthermore, the antibacterial evaluation was achieved by a CFU (Colony-Forming Units) counting method after 6 h of incubation at 37 °C. The incorporation of chitosan on calcium alginate fibers brings antibacterial activities against Staphylococcus epidermidis, Escherichia coli and various Staphylococcus aureus strains namely MSSA (Methicillin Sensitive Staphylococcus aureus), CA-MRSA (Community Associated Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus) and HA-MRSA (Healthcare Associated Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus) which make these chitosan-coated fibers potential candidates for wound dressing materials. Developing a wound dressing with the haemostatic and healing properties of alginate combined with antibacterial properties of chitosan can be envisioned for fighting against the infections and more particularly nosocomial infections

Full textIn order to improve nuclear energy industry sustainability, future research needs to focus on the use of co-management of actinides and their co-conversion. The synthesis of uranium/plutonium mixed oxide by oxalic approach is currently the preferred method. Nevertheless the use of mixed peroxides, like precursors of mixed oxides, is considered as an alternative pathway. In fact, the recent advances on several uranyl peroxides or pero-oxalates nano-clusters stabilized by mono-, di- or tri-valent cations has permitted to investigate the formation of mixed peroxides. This study aims to investigate the formation of mixed uranium (VI) and lanthanide (III) peroxides leading to the formation of uranium-lanthanide mixed oxides, by heat treatment. Lanthanide (III) are used as actinides (III) analogs. The study of the UO22+/NH4+/O22-/C2O42- system allowed us to (i) refine the domains of existence of uranyl and ammonium peroxide and peroxo-oxalates as a function of reactive concentrations or pH (ii) obtain twelve news crystalline phases. At pH 9 and above, amorphous phases precipitated and after neodymium (III) exchange and calcination, led to the formation of mixed oxides. Mixed oxides can thus incorporate from 20 to 30% of neodymium. Finally the use of non thermically labile cations permits the formation of new U-Ca or U-Rb phases

Full textAmericium isotopes represent a significant part of high-level and long-lived nuclear waste in spent fuels. Among the envisaged reprocessing scenarios, their transmutation in fast neutron reactors using uranium-americium mixed-oxide pellets (U1-xAmxO2±δ) is a promising option which would help decrease the ecological footprint of ultimate waste repository sites. In this context, this thesis is dedicated to the study of such compounds over a wide range of americium contents (7.5 at.% ≤ Am/(U+Am) ≤ 70 at.%), with an emphasis on their fabrication from single-oxide precursors and the assessment of their structural and thermodynamic stabilities, also taking self-irradiation effects into account. Results highlight the main influence of americium reduction to Am+III, not only on the mechanisms of solid-state formation of the U1-xAmxO2±δ solid solution, but also on the stabilization of oxidized uranium cations and the formation of defects in the oxygen sublattice such as vacancies and cuboctahedral clusters. In addition, the data acquired concerning the stability of U1-xAmxO2±δ compounds (existence of a miscibility gap, vaporization behavior) were compared to calculations based on new thermodynamic modelling of the U-Am-O ternary system. Finally, α-self-irradiation-induced structural effects on U1-xAmxO2±δ compounds were analyzed using XRD, XAS and TEM, allowing the influence of americium content on the structural swelling to be studied as well as the description of the evolution of radiation-induced structural defects

Full textTimber - concrete composite structures are competitive technical solutions for new building construction as well as in refurbishment. This work aims at promoting timber - concrete construction in France thanks to a better knowledge of mechanical and thermo-mechanical behavior of the fasteners. Regarding more traditional buildings systems, few researches were lead about seismic and fire design of timber concrete structures. Particular emphasis is put on those two points in this study through experimental, analytical and numerical approaches. As a matter of fact, several experimental campaigns were lead. 24 Push Out tests have been carried out at ambient temperature on the SBB timber-concrete composite system. The test program involved 12 Push Out tests under cyclic loading and 12 Push Out tests under monotonic loading. Experimental results brought to light the good mechanical performances as well as the large ductility reserve of SBB timber-concrete connection system. The cyclic tests have revealed the system ability to dissipate energy and allowed quantifying the loss of rigidity and resistance of the system. Descriptive models (Foschi, Dolan, Richard) have been adapted to reproduce to the experimental load-slip curves. In order to get further insight into the local phenomenon taking place between timber and the SBB connector, a second test program was devised. The tests involved 16 Pull Out tests (connector from timber) and 3 series of 16 embedment tests og various parts of the connector in glue laminated timber. Thanks to these experimental results, a better understanding of the SBB behavior has been reached. Predictive models are provided for numerical and analytical modeling of timber - concrete fasteners. Those models show good agreement with the Push Out tests introduced in previous part.In order to assess the fire behavior of timber - concrete composite floor system with the SBB connection system, fire tests were conducted according to ISO 834 standard. Fire results database with SBB timber - concrete connection includes a full-scale fire floor test (floor dimensions are 5.35m x 3.5m) and several fire Push Out tests based on three different timber - concrete composite beam sections. Fire Push Out tests were heavily instrumented with thermocouples in order to allow the validation of thermal models developed in this thesis.Thermal and thermomechanical coupled simulations were conducted with finite element software Abaqus©. These models demonstrate the good performances of timber-concrete composite structures subjected to fire. Heating of the elements and loss in shear resistance and stiffness of the connection system were quantified. Furthermore fire design rules are proposed for timber - concrete structures. Fire behavior analysis pointed out that thermal dilatation of concrete must be considered in fire design of timber-concrete composite structures
