The study compares representations of teachers in the Czech broadsheet Mladá fronta and the British broadsheet The Daily Telegraph, aiming to reveal their possible impact on the level of public respect towards teachers. The methodology employed is critical discourse analysis, combining an investigation of semantic macrostructures and recurrent transitivity patterns. It is revealed that both newspapers call attention to problems regarding the teaching profession, advocating social change and higher job prestige. The social significance of a teacher is enhanced in both newspapers by allocating a teacher not only the role of a transmitter of knowledge but also a moral guide concerned with social issues. The main difference between the two broadsheets is that The Daily Telegraph foregrounds teachers’ wrongdoings, while Mladá fronta highlights teachers’ accomplishments. This seems to be mainly due to the inclusion of a section with regional content in the Czech broadsheet.

Text je recenzí knihy Testy a dotazníky pro vyšetřování kognitivních funkcí, nálady a soběstačnosti od Aleše Bartoše a Miloslavy Raisové, vydané Mladou frontou. Podobné publikace jsou potřebné a potenciálně užitečné jak pro praktiky, tak výzkumníky. Recenzovaná kniha je ale v mnoha ohledech problematická, především z psychometrického hlediska, které považujeme pro podobný typ publikací za klíčové, a sami autoři tvrdí, že je v knize akcentují. Podle našeho názoru úroveň psychometrických poznatků v této knize odpovídá začátku 90. let minulého století, což v současnosti nelze akceptovat.

The Polish year 1989 through the perspective of Czechoslovak opinion-forming daily press The main goal of this article is to show the image of the most important Polish political actions in 1989 through the prism of Czechoslovak opinion-forming daily press: Rudé právo and Mladá fronta. The author is focused on the analysis of materials generally connected with the deliberations of the Round Table, as well as the Polish legislative election on 4 June. It is desirable to disclose the way of presenting of the most important actions in Poland by the Czechoslovak press in that period, which we have mentioned above. The author also tries to de­termine how acute was the attention of the press to the Polish events that had taken place during those times. The newspapers, that are analysed, were controlled by Czechoslovak Rule and they were medium of its current views. According to this fact we could emphasize one of the elements in the sphere of the official relations be­tween Poland and Czechoslovakia in relation in the year 1989. We could also reconstruct the Polish situational image which was presented to Czechoslovak citizens by the Czechoslovak authorities.

František Listopad was a Czech poet, novelist, essayist, theatre and television director. In 2021, the Czech Republic together with the entire Portuguese-speaking world commemorated the centenary of his birth. In addition to his extensive work in several languages, he also played a crucial role in a historic revival of Czech-Portuguese cultural relations, for which we are indebted to him. Listopad was a man of three names and several homes. He was born in 1921 in Prague as Jiří Synek. He published his first short stories under this name. During World War II, he was persecuted for his Jewish origins. However, he avoided deportation to a Nazi camp, hid with friends and was active in the resistance as a member of the illegal organization “For Freedom” (Za svobodu). For reasons of secrecy, he changed his name to František Listopad. At the same time he also began to write poetry and literary reviews. After the war, he became a co-founder of the daily Mladá fronta. After initial enthusiasm, he began to criticize the communist regime, mainly for restricting human freedoms. In 1947, he was sent to Paris as an editor of the weekly Parallele 50. After February 1948, he was ordered to come back to Czechoslovakia, but he did not return. In France, he focused mainly on writing essays and working for the emerging local television. In 1958, he moved to Portugal, where he lived until his death in 2017. Here he chose a different name – Jorge Listopad. Listopad considered Salazar’s authoritarian right-wing regime to be very restrictive, but much freer in many ways than Czechoslovakia of the time; for example, it did not prohibit citizens from travelling abroad. In Portugal, in addition to significant literary work, Listopad devoted himself mainly to theatrical productions. He also became a university teacher. He never moved back to his original homeland to stay there permanently, but after the 1989 Velvet Revolution he often travelled there. He presented his plays there and published collections of poems and short stories. In his literary and theatrical works, František Listopad often existentially reflected the life in three unfree systems: the period of Nazi occupation of Czechoslovakia, communism and Salazar’s dictatorship in Portugal.

Przedmiotem artykułu jest 435 haseł leksykalnych – anglicyzmy i derywaty od anglicyzmów (użyte łącznie 3 124 razy). Materiał pochodzi z siedmiu obszernych numerów gazety „Mladá fronta Dnes” z listopada 2009 r. Jednostki leksykalne reprezentują między innymi następujące pola znaczeniowe: sport (128 haseł), muzyka i subkultury (40 haseł), transport i budownictwo (25 haseł), ekonomia i handel (24 hasła), środki masowego przekazu (24 hasła). Około 40% wszystkich haseł stanowią hapaxlegomena.

Tako smo poimenovali letošnjo prvo številko in civilno-vojaški odnosi bodo vodilna tema tudi pri naslednjih treh številkah, ki jih načrtujemo za letos. V drugi številki bi želeli izvedeti, kaj je novega v razvoju obrambnega sistema, v tretji se želimo posvetiti novim nevojaškim grožnjam, ki se pojavljajo v obliki kibernetskih groženj in različnih bolezni, kot je na primer ebola, in problematiki povečanih migracij iz afriške smeri proti evropskim mejam. V četrti številki pa se bomo spomnili stote obletnice nastanka soške fronte. Pri civilno-vojaških odnosih gre za odnos med civilno družbo in vojaškimi organizacijami. Ko se njihove vsebine lotimo podrobneje, ugotovimo, da gre za oblike nadzora civilne družbe nad vojaško organizacijo. Prva avtorja, ki sta se posvetila tem odnosom, sta Sun Cu, okrog 500 let pred našim štetjem, in Carl von Clausewitz, na prehodu iz 17. v 18. stoletje. Izhajala sta iz dejstva, da je vojska v službi države. V akademske vode politologije in sociologije sta civilno-vojaške odnose uvedla Samual P. Huntington in Morris Janowitz. Veliko literature o tem je nastalo v obdobju po drugi svetovni vojni, vse do padca berlinskega zidu. Preoblikovanje vojsk kot posledica konca blokovske delitve zahodnega dela sveta je veliko prispevalo k nastanku različne literature, s poudarkom na transformacijski paradigmi, ki se razvija predvsem znotraj Nata. Po letu 2010 v Sloveniji lahko ugotovimo, da področje vojaške strokovne in znanstvene literature nazaduje. Čeprav varnostnih, obrambnih in vojaških izzivov ne manjka, v akademskih in strokovnih krogih ni prave motivacije za organizacijo dogodkov, na katerih bi izmenjali zamisli in kritične misli ter odzive nanje. Ker takih dodatnih spodbud ni, se zdi nekako logično, da na te teme tudi ni člankov, monografij in učbenikov. Kaj lahko naredimo, da spodbudimo razprave o civilno-vojaških odnosih, varnosti, obrambi in vojski, da bodo nastali tudi kakovostni zapisi za druge – študente, mlade, veterane, strokovno in znanstveno javnost ter civilno družbo? Ena izmed možnosti, ki jih ima Slovenska vojska oziroma Generalštab Slovenske vojske kot izdajatelj te publikacije, je spodbujanje zaposlenih in tistih, ki z vojsko in ministrstvom sodelujejo, k pisanju. Rezultat teh spodbud so članki v tej številki. Gregor Garb v članku z naslovom Uveljavljanje zasebnih vojaških družb skozi prizmo globalizirane varnosti izhaja iz spremenjenega političnega in varnostnega okolja, ki je povzročilo, da so se v strokovnih varnostnih krogih začeli poleg tradicionalnih omenjati tudi nedržavni akterji z nadnacionalnimi povezavami in vplivi. Temo je leta 2004 že načel profesor Žabkar v poglavju Ali je v prvih letih tretjega tisočletja prišlo do privatizacije vojaškega poklica, objavljenem v drugem delu monografije z naslovom Marsova dediščina. Dobrih deset let pozneje Garb predstavlja svoje ugotovitve. József Padányi in László Földi predstavljata različne izkušnje madžarske vojske v mednarodnih operacijah in na misijah ter njeno pomoč prebivalstvu ob naravnih in drugih nesrečah. Madžarska vojska je leta 2010 sodelovala pri odpravi velike nesreče z izlivom rdečega blata. Več o tem v članku Naloge in izkušnje madžarske vojske pri kriznem upravljanju. Konec lanskega leta je zavezništvo končalo operacijo Isafa v Afganistanu. Tam so bili deset let del zavezniških sil tudi pripadniki Slovenske vojske. O poslanstvu, nalogah in izkušnjah Enote za specialno delovanje je Kristian Beršnak napisal članek z naslovom Razvoj specialnih sil SV in izkušnje iz Afganistana. Spoprijemanje z današnjimi izzivi določa uporabo širokega spektra civilnih in vojaških zmogljivosti, izboljšano sodelovanje ter usklajevanje vseh vključenih subjektov in tudi pripravo enotnega subjekta nacionalne varnosti, piše Andrej Androjna v članku z naslovom Obalna straža – dejavnik povečanja varnosti v pomorskem prometu, v katerem proučuje drugačne možnosti zagotavljanja te oblike varnosti. Andrej Skvarča v članku Uporabnost programskega orodja Topobase pri upravljanju nepremičnin v obrambnem resorju opisuje programsko orodje, ki ga uporabljajo na Letališču Cerklje ob Krki. V času, ko je zaščita kritične infrastrukture vedno bolj pomembna, se zdi smiselno to programsko orodje uporabljati tudi širše v obrambnem sistemu. Toliko smo se pri tej številki angažirali v Slovenski vojski. Ali se morda še kje kdo ukvarja z obrambno-vojaškimi vsebinami? Imamo nekaj slovenskih fakultet s katedrami, ki se ukvarjajo z različnimi varnostnimi vsebinami. Imamo nekaj ustanov, za katere lahko rečemo, da so »think tank«, kot angleško govoreče okolje imenuje ustanove, ki veljajo za možgansko središče novih zamisli. Smo morda v Sloveniji brez novih zamisli na področju varnosti? Morda pa jih imamo, a so ostale nekje v etru, ker jih nihče ne zapiše v strokovnem ali znanstvenem članku.

The aim of the work is to monitor how three significant Czech daily newspapers Hospodářské noviny, Lidové noviny and Mladá fronta DNES deal with the global economic crisis - the most severe economic situation of the last 80 years. It covers the period from 15 September 2008, when the American bank Lehman Brothers went bankrupt, till the end of the year 2008. The economic crisis very often became the news number one and all three journals focused on it for the whole period. The subject filled not only the economic sections of the newspapers but also pages about news from home and news of the world, sport, culture or even fashion. The work uses a statistical method to evaluate principal criteria. It helps to come to a conclusion which of the three daily newspapers was the best at covering the economic crisis in its early stage in 2008.

The main of the diploma work was to study the internal situations in individual states of Latin America so as to find out, how these countries were perceived in the Czech media. As a study material a group of articles was selected between the period of 2000-2003 from two renowned national newspapers, "Mlada fronta Dnes and Prava". Generally 278 articles were analyzed. The thesis "Looking through the lens of the Czech daily newspaper Mlada fronta for 65 years" examines the topic of the liberation of Czechoslovakia in May, 1945. The qualitative content analysis of selected texts available from the newspaper is used to explore the interpretation of the event in Mlada fronta. The thesis has concentrated on the development of attitudes, beliefs, ways of communications and journalistic transformation of media content concerning the liberation event over time. The main objective has been to answer the question as to whether the media portrayal of the event has remained constant or altered over the stated time period and which factors influenced the portrayal. In the conclusion of this thesis we can confirm that the monitored event has been described differently in different time periods respectively, in connection with political progress and the value of democracy in the country. The more totalitarian the regime, the more the newspaper has described freedom through preferred ideology, biased themes, dogmatic posture and offered interpretations that suited the ruling party. The diploma thesis The development of advertising in the daily newspaper Mladá fronta DNES between the years 2012-2016 analyzes the development and possible changes of advertising in the Czech daily broadsheet Mladá fronta DNES of the publishing house Mafra, a.s. between the years 2012-2016. In particular, this thesis aims to describe the trends in the concentration of advertisements, the ratio of original content and advertising, the interconnection of advertising with the graphic or thematic side of the editorial content of the journal, or the development of advertising formats and topics. These findings are attained by quantitative content analysis, namely so-called emergent coding. In the addressed theoretical Framework, the aspects of the economic functioning of the media are addressed as well as the theory of advertising, the phenomenon of advertising in the press or its legislative anchoring. The author also devotes several pages to the phenomenon of media commercialization, as well as its appearance in the Czech media environment. Part of the work is also devoted to the presentation of the daily broadsheet Mladá fronta DNES, its history and its current position on the Czech media market. The thesis focuses on how floods were covered in Czech newspapers. The approach taken by two periodicals, Mladá Fronta (MF DNES) and Rudé Právo (Právo), was compared on five examples of actual floods that took place in the Czech Republic and Czechoslovakia between 1954 - 2002. Examined was how the manner in informing about natural disasters differs between the period prior to 1989 and after, and how developments in technology contributed to the visual aspects of reporting on these events.

The objective of this work is to survey the media picture of volunteering as provided to the public by the two Czech media - the most read quality paper in the Czech Republic Mladá fronta DNES and the professional electronic monthly Svět neziskovek. The survey consists of analysis of articles published in the respective media in 2011 for which the framing method (also called frame analysis) was used. With regard to the complexity of the phenomenon of volunteering, this work uses the theoretical concept of three paradigms (perspectives) as established by C. Rochester. These three paradigms (civil society paradigm, non-profit paradigm, volunteering as serious leisure) are identified in the articles, surveyed and mutually compared and subsequently the overall picture of volunteering as provided by the media is compiled. Quantitative evaluation of certain parameters related to volunteering within the articles (the field of voluntary activities, organizational context, age of volunteers and so forth) is also a part of this work.

This diploma thesis "Media image of Andreje Babiš in the following newspapers: Mladá fronta DNES, Právo Hospodářské noviny and Lidové noviny in the connotation with the affair of a stork's nest" focuses on issue of the media image of an important public figure, politician and head representative of the most popular party in our republic in the time periods chosen for the purpose of this diploma thesis (May 2016, August 2017 and March 2018). It is a well known fact, that Andrej Babiš purchased, through his company Agrofert certain media, for example Mladá fronta DNES and Lidové noviny, in the year 2013. This diploma thesis is an attempt to portray if a fact of this acquisition had any influence on media image of Andrej Babiš in those newspapers, meaning Mladá fronta DNES and Lidové noviny. This media image is going to be compared with the media image of Andrej Babiš in the same time periods in the newspapers Právo and Hospodářské noviny. Newspapers that are exempt of any and all influence of Andrej Babiš. This diploma thesis presents concept, that desribes how media construct reality, which enables the very existence of media image. In this thesis, the author focus on the description of mass, later called popular culture, and its products, the two selected, originally British, talent singing reality show, "Česko hledá SuperStar" (and "Česko Slovenská SuperStar") and X Factor. Their competitors are the subject for qualitative research of articles in periodical press. The aim of the research is using qualitative content analysis to analyse "Mladá fronta DNES" and "Blesk", and how published texts construct contestants of selected shows. For research was selected period of time when the competition was broadcasted, February - June 2004; February - June 2008 and September - December 2009.

My thesis named "Attitude of Czech dailies Lidové noviny, Mladá fronta Dnes and Právo to the first direct Czech presidential election" should confirm or disprove the bias of the three Czech newspapers in the period between the first and the second round of the direct presidential election. The first part of thesis focuses on selected chapters of media, linguistic and semiotic theories regarding bias. It also discusses the process of direct elections and CVs of Karel Schwarzenberg and Miloš Zeman. At first, I used quantitative analysis to determine if the newspapers were balanced and provide comparable space to the both candidates. Then I applied the qualitative analysis to find out what language and semiotic components used the authors from newspapers to inform the public about the candidates of the second round of direct elections. Depending on the findings, I divide the articles into positive, neutral, negative categories for Karel Schwarzenberg and positive, neutral, negative for Miloš Zeman. After the victory of Miloš Zeman the bias was discussed. This thesis should answer the question of whether the three Czech newspapers were biased in favour of Karel Schwarzenberg or Miloš Zeman between the first and the second round of the first direct Czech presidential election.

This graduation thesis is focused on the description of the language methods used in the texts of the most significat Czechoslovak journals in the years 1971 {--} 1975. The first part of thesis gives a brief characteristics of the publicist{\crq}s style and defines journalistic dilemma. Separated chapters give a brief summary of the events in the years 1971 {--} 75 and explain history and structure of the most significant Czechoslovak journals in the time of my observation. The second and also the most important part of my thesis is searching lexical methods used in texts: fashion words, cliché, phraseologisms, foreign words etc. Thesis is focused on the description of these methods and the characteristic of their practical use in the text.
