Syftet med studien är att undersöka hur MMA framställs i svensk nyhetsmedia eftersom det historiskt sätt har varit en väldigt omtalad sport och nyhetsmedier tenderar att framställa den väldigt våldsamt, vilket tidigare forskning visar. Studien applicerar två teoretiska perspektiv för att undersöka detta, gestaltningsteorin och moralpanik. Genom en kvantitativ innehållsanalys kombinerat med gestaltningsanalys analyseras ett urval artiklar i från några av de största nyhetsmedierna i Sverige, Aftonbladet, Expressen och SVT Nyheter samt två MMA inriktade nyhetsmedier, Kimura och MMANytt. Detta görs för att undersöka hur olika sorters nyhetsmedier skildrar MMA och på så vis se skillnader ochlikheter för att skapa en helhetsbild av problemet. Resultatet visar att sporten har växt ochblivit mer legitim de senaste åren jämfört med tidigare studier. Trots detta förmedlas ändåen grad av moralpanik i sättet artiklarna ramar in både sporten och sportens utövare på.<br>The purpose of this study is to examine how MMA is portrayed in Swedish news mediasince historically speaking there has been a stigma about the sport and news media tends to depict it in a very violent manner, which previous studies also shows. The study appliestwo theoretical perspectives, framing theory and moral panic. Through a quantitativecontent analysis combined with a framing analysis a selection of articles are analyzed from some of the biggest sources of news media in Sweden, Aftonbladet, Expressen and SVT Nyheter as well as two MMA focused ones, Kimura and MMANytt. This is done toexamine how different types of news media depicts MMA and, in that way, see differencesand similarities to create a comprehensive understanding of the problem. The results show that the sport has grown and become more legitimate the last few years when compared to previous studies. Despite this a level of moral panic is being mediated in the way articles frame both the sport and its practitioners.

”Never!” That was the answer UFC President Dana White gave when asked when women would be seen in the UFC. Two years later the first fight between two women took place and now there’s more than 50 female competitors in the UFC - an organisation that earlier was reserved only for men. ”Women will never fight in the UFC” – A qualitative content analysis of the depiction of women’s MMA in media is a study which focuses on how women’s MMA and Ronda Rousey as an individual athlete are portrayed in american internet based MMA media, with a gender research perspective. This study also investigates how the introduction of the first women’s division in the UFC might have affected the depiction women’s MMA in media. The theoretical framework consists of gender theory concepts such as gender performativity, the man as norm, sports and masculinity. With this theoretical framework as foundation, a directed content analysis was used as research method. The results of this analysis shows a frequent emphasis on the appearance of female athletes in the material. An attractive woman is preferable, and a muscular and more masculine woman is considered as deviant. Female athletes are constantly in comparison to male athletes, both in a positive sense, when their athleticism or talent is compared, and in a negative sense to downgrade their appearance. It is clear that the man is the starting-point, which the women are compared to. The material shows that before the introduction of a female division in the UFC there were strong concerns about women entering the organisation - would it be received as a positive or a negative change and thus if it was economically sustainable. After the first women’s fight in the UFC, the appearances of the competitors weren’t referenced as frequently in the material as before, and their performances were highlighted in a much higher degree. Ronda Rousey is portrayed as the most important individual competitor in women’s MMA. She’s got “everything”, both the looks and talent. But to some extent her talent is marginalized. A resistance that may be based in the unfamiliarity of seeing a woman in the spotlight of the MMA-world.

Este mestrado utiliza os gêneros cinematográficos e suas convenções como ponto de partida para a escrita de roteiros. A análise de filmes de ação, conhecidos como filme de boxe, é usada como referência na escrita de um roteiro de longa metragem de um filme de luta, que trata mais especificamente do universo do MMA. Assim, meu mestrado tem dois resultados distintos e ao mesmo tempo complementares: um pequeno estudo do gênero proposto, sugerindo suas transformações, e o próprio roteiro de longa metragem, O Demônio do Ringue.<br>This dissertation uses the cinematographic genres and its conventions as starting point to the writing of screenplays. The analysis of action movies, known as boxing movies, is taken as reference in the writing of a fighting films screenplay, which approach more specifically the MMA universe. Hence, my dissertation has two distinct results which are complementary at the same time: first a study of the proposed genre, suggesting its transformations, and the movie screenplay itself, O Demônio do Ringue

Previous issue date: 2016-06-10<br>The following study consists in a sociological analysis about the production of manhood styles in
the universe of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), from an ethnographic research made with a group of
physical fight practitioners in the city named Goiânia-GO. Thus, it points out to the relevance of
consumption and the interference of the market in the construction of some symbolic repertoire
about manhood seen as essentials and/or primordials, discussing how the subjects seize and
embody such an imaginary thing amidst stress, ambivalences and disputes. The document is
organized into five chapters. In the first, I talk about the questionable utilization of physical
fights and martial arts as an invented tradition, as an orientalist play, in the configuration of
imaginary communities. In the second, I talk about the appearance of MMA coming from the
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), giving focus to historical and sociological aspects that
takes part in the symbolic economy in which establishes some manly speeches that are important
for involved agents with the dynamic of manhoods in question. The third chapter brings thoughts
about implied codes to the expression of manhoods in the universe of fighters where it was
realized the field research, emphasizing the usage of signs associated to the genre relations with
the production of relevant styles of the habitus of fighters. I develop discussions about the
acceptance of the speech of order and the discipline of the contributors in the fourth chapter, in
order to determine how interactions with women and other manhoods go through the influence
of conservative opinion; and how much this dynamic is responsible for the creation of conflicts
in this universe. The fifth chapter talks about the biographies of iconic fighters in several levels
of the field topology embodied by fighters and referees that take part of the cultural goods
market around MMA and UFC. So I posit that the fight that brought the thoughts about
manhoods in this study highlights the stress around the sexuality, of questions related to family
and to work; and before it means a sportivization, it indicates an intense civilizing process, as it
allows the fruition an uncontrolled control of the emotions and makes evident tools of social
control. The respect and affection of traditional institutes like family and heterosexuality, like the
possibility of social ascension through MMA, require from the fighters a self-sacrifice that
reinstalls in the contemporaneous scenario the perspective of the individual discipline as a
resource to the success. This process allow us to imply that dynamics and rhetoric of market
(re)products styles of manhoods seen as “non corruptible” by the present day, such elements
being appropriate by interested agents in the symbolic capital that is inherent in the form of
disputes for hegemony.

market of symbolic goods.<br>O presente estudo consiste em uma análise sociológica da produção de estilos de masculinidades
no universo do Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), a partir de uma pesquisa de caráter etnográfico
realizada junto a um grupo de praticantes de lutas corporais na cidade de Goiânia-GO. Aponta,
assim, para a pertinência do consumo e para a interferência do mercado na construção de certo
repertório simbólico sobre masculinidades tidas como essenciais e/ou primordiais, discutindo
como os sujeitos apropriam-se e corporificam tal imaginário em meio a tensões, ambivalências e
disputas. O texto está organizado em cinco capítulos. No primeiro, discorro sobre a problemática
das lutas corporais e das artes marciais enquanto tradição inventada utilizada, enquanto peça
orientalista, na conformação de comunidades imaginadas. No segundo, abordo o surgimento do
MMA a partir do Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), focando aspectos históricos e
sociológicos que participam da economia simbólica dentro da qual se instalam discursos e
retóricas viris importantes para agentes envolvidos com a dinâmica da masculinidade em
questão. O terceiro capítulo traz reflexões a respeito de códigos implícitos à expressão de
masculinidades no universo de lutadores onde foi realizada a pesquisa de campo, realçando o
manejo de signos associados às relações de gênero com a produção de estilos relevadores de
habitus de lutadores. Desenvolvo discussões sobre uma apropriação do discurso da ordem e da
disciplina por parte dos colaboradores no quarto capítulo, no sentido de apontar como interações
com mulheres e outras masculinidades sofrem a influência de disposições conservadoras; e o
quanto tal dinâmica é responsável pela produção de conflitos nesse universo. O quinto capítulo
aborda a questão das biografias de lutadores emblemáticos em diversos níveis da topologia do
campo constituído por lutadores e mediadores que participam do mercado de bens culturais em
torno do MMA e do UFC. Postulo que a luta de que se lançou mão para as reflexões sobre
masculinidades nesse estudo realça a tensão em torno da sexualidade, de questões relacionadas à
família e ao trabalho; e antes de significar uma desportivização, indica um acirramento do
processo civilizatório, na medida em que permite a fruição de um descontrole controlado das
emoções e evidencia ferramentas de controle social. A valorização de instituições tradicionais
como a família e a heterossexualidade, bem como a possibilidade de ascensão social através do
MMA, exigem de lutadores um auto sacrifício que reinstala no cenário contemporâneo a
perspectiva da ascese individual como recurso para o sucesso. Este processo permite inferir que
dinâmicas e retóricas de mercado (re)produzem estilos de masculinidades tidos como “não
corrompidos” pela modernidade, sendo tais elementos apropriados por agentes interessados no
capital simbólico que lhes é inerente sob a forma de disputas por hegemonia.

Ce travail effectué dans le cadre d'une collaboration avec le groupe Safran-Heraklès, a pour objectif le développement d'une nouvelle stratégie d'élaboration de la monométhylhydrazine (MMH) par intensification du procédé Raschig, en utilisant la technologie des microréacteurs. Ce composé est aujourd'hui une molécule à fort potentiel dans le domaine de la propulsion, de l'industrie pharmaceutique ainsi que dans le domaine de l'agrochimie. Ce travail a été financé par la Région Rhône-Alpes sous la forme d'une bourse doctorale CIBLE 2008-2011. La première partie de ce travail est consacrée à la synthèse de la monochloramine élaborée dans des conditions quasi-stoechiométriques et à l'étude de sa stabilité. Cette synthèse a été réalisée pour la première fois, en continu, à l'aide de la technologie des microréacteurs. Les conditions optimales de synthèse ont été déterminées ainsi que les paramètres de sécurité, en vue d'un transfert industriel rapide et sécuritaire. La deuxième partie concerne l'objectif majeur du nouveau procédé qui consiste à extraire, sous pression, la totalité des produits organiques (monométhylhydrazine et monométhylamine (MMA)), sous la forme d'une phase condensée, par démixtion des solutions brutes de synthèse. Ce phénomène est lié à l'existence d'une lacune de miscibilité à l'état liquide dans le système ternaire MMA-H2O-NaOH. L'optimisation de la démixtion a nécessité l'établissement systématique des diagrammes de phases impliqués. La dernière partie aborde l'aspect génie des procédés. Une modélisation cinétique de la synthèse de la MMH par voie Raschig a été entreprise afin d'estimer la composition des solutions de synthèse. L'exploitation thermodynamique des diagrammes de phases a permis la détermination des conditions optimales de l'isolement et l'établissement de plusieurs schémas de procédés pour la synthèse de la MMH<br>This work, conducted as part of a collaboration with the Safran-Heraklès group, aims at developing a new synthesis concept for the monomethylhydrazine (MMH), by process intensification using microreactor technology. The work was funded by the Rhône-Alpes region in the form of a doctoral fellowship TARGET 2008-2011. The first part of this research aims to study the stability of monochloramine solutions prepared in stoichiometric conditions. This synthesis was carried out continuously, for the first time ever, using microreactor technology. Optimal synthesis conditions as well as a set of security parameters have been established for a fast and secured transfer to industrial scale. The second part, also one of the main objectives of this work, is the extraction, under pressure, of all organic products (mostly MMH and monomethylamine) in the form of one condensed phase by demixing the crude reaction liquors. This phenomenon is related to the existence of a miscibility gap in the liquid ternary system H2O-MMA-NaOH. The optimization of the demixing step requires then the study of different solid-liquid-liquid phase diagrams involved. The last part deals with the chemical engineering aspect of the research. A kinetic modeling of the synthesis of MMH by the Raschig way was used in order to estimate the composition of the synthesis solution. These results and the application of phase diagrams allow the determination of optimal conditions for the isolation step and the establishment of process flow-sheets for the synthesis of MMH

Föreställningar kring maskulinitet och våld är i dagens samhälle nära sammankopplade och har så varit även historiskt. Denna studie har som mål att undersöka hur dessa sammankopplingar påverkar män som tränar och tävlar MMA och hur det påverkar deras maskulinitetskonstruktioner. Genom att undersöka dessa mäns inställning till våld, maskulinitet och intimitet inom MMA, syftar studien till att tydliggöra den diskurs som vuxit fram på en kampsortsklubb i Sverige. Slutsatsen av denna undersökning är att en tillsynes motsägelsefull bild kring våld och intimitet konstruerats inom denna diskurs. Inom MMA-diskursen finns utrymme för fysisk intimitet på ett sätt som sällan accepteras mellan män i samhället utanför. Samtidigt kan inställningen till våld förklaras genom att utövarna skiljer våldsamma handlingar från aggressivitet och därför inte ser utövandet som våld.<br>Concepts about masculinity and violence are closely connected in today´s society, and have been so historically as well. The purpose of this essay is to study how these connections influence men who practice and compete in MMA and how this affects their construction of masculinities. By the study of these men’s attitudes towards violence, masculinity and intimacy within MMA, this study aims to clarify the discourse that has developed in a martial arts club in Sweden. The conclusion of this study is that a seemingly contradictory image of violence and intimacy is produced in this discourse. Inside the MMA discourse there is room for physical intimacy between men in a way that is rarely accepted in society at large. At the same time their attitudes towards violence can be explained by the fact that the practitioners separate violent actions from aggression and therefor do not view these actions as violence.

This study is a research on four women's point of view of gender in MMA. The purpose of my essay was to gain a better understanding of women's experiences and what the basis of women's experiences is and if the location can affect their experiences. I chose to do a qualitative study with a hermeneutic research approach in which I did four semi-structured interviews. I interviewed women who are living in Stockholm and Uppsala. The results were then analyzed with the help of gender theories of Hirdman and Butler, but also on theori from Corrnell on masculinity. Previous issue date: 2016-12-14<br>This study, whose study problem is the relationship that is established between the violence and the emotion in the MMA, from the perspective of fighters and spectators,aims to analyze the violence and the emotion in the MMA from the perspective of both.Among the specific objectives are: historicizing the MMA; to present theoretical elements that allow the understanding of violence and emotion in the universe of MMA;to Identify what kind of emotion is present during the preparation period and the
moment of the fight. The literature chosen to discuss the issue suggests that violence control has a strong association with emotional control (ELIAS; DUNNING, 1992).From the perspective of the fighters and spectators, is tried to discuss violence and
emotion, using the concepts of symbolic violence, real violence, legitimate violence and systemic violence. From this, three hypothesis are presented: the first is that the MMA is a violent sport, conceived in this way in order to serve the demands of a society and a violent man by nature; The second one points out that the perception of fighters that the MMA is not violent is related to the fact that the competitions possess rules,
unlike what happens on the streets. The third hypothesis upholds that there is a social need for the public to experience violence, which can be seen by the increasing demand for events involving MMA, indicated by the increase in TV ratings and the purchasing of pay-per-view packages. The proposed temporal frame refers to the period between 1995 and 2016. The initial time mark was established due to changes in the rules occurred after the UFC-5 event took place, a period in which the
confrontations had no time limit, it means, there was no division by rounds, nor amaximum period length for the fight to end. After the changes, the fights began to occur with pre-established time length. Regarding the final temporal beacon, the year 2016,
it is due to the edition of the UFC-198, held in the city of Curitiba-PR. In this event,spectators were interviewed, as well as, were concluded the semi-structured observations and interviews with the fighters. The methodology used was qualitative of the ethnographic type, whose instruments were the participating observation and semi-structured interviews. It was found that, from the perspective of fighters and
spectators, the MMA is not a violent sport, although the literature and the interviews conducted with them show the presence of a symbolic violence during training and the
moment of the combat. There is also a strong emotional appeal, in which happiness and fear are present. The text is structured in three chapters, by which it was sought to discuss violence and emotion based on the proposed theoretical framework and the performed interviews.<br>Esta pesquisa tem como objetivo geral analisar a violência e a emoção no MMA sob a perspectiva de lutadores e espectadores, a partir do estudo da relação que se estabelece entre ambos. Entre os objetivos específicos estão historicizar o MMA;
apresentar elementos teóricos que possibilitem a compreensão da violência e da emoção no universo do MMA; e identificar que tipo de emoção está presente durante o período de preparação e o momento da luta. A pesquisa se pauta na literatura de
Elias e Dunning (1992), a qual sugere que o controle da violência possui forte associação com o controle emocional. Procura-se discutir violência e emoção utilizando-se os conceitos de violência simbólica, violência real, violência legítima e violência sistêmica. Deste modo, apresentam-se três hipóteses: a primeira é que o MMA é um esporte violento, concebido desta forma com fins de atender as demandas de uma sociedade e de um homem violento por natureza; a segunda aponta que a percepção tida pelos lutadores de que o MMA não é violento está relacionada ao fato de as competições apresentarem regras, diferentemente do que acontece nas ruas; e a terceira é a de que existe uma necessidade social, por parte do público, de vivenciar a violência, o que pode ser constatado por meio da crescente procura por eventos que envolvem o MMA. O recorte temporal refere-se ao período compreendido entre 1995 e 2016. A baliza temporal inicial foi estabelecida em virtude de mudanças de regras ocorridas a partir da realização do UFC – 5, em que os confrontos não apresentavam limite de tempo, ou seja, não havia divisão por rounds, tampouco tempo máximo para
que a luta se encerrasse. Após este evento, as lutas passaram a ocorrer com tempos determinados. Já a baliza temporal final, 2016, deve-se à edição do UFC -198, em que foram entrevistados espectadores e concluídas as observações e entrevistas semiestruturadas com os lutadores. A metodologia utilizada foi qualitativa do tipo etnográfica, cujos instrumentos foram a observação participante e a entrevista
semiestruturada. <p>Sammendrag I kapittel 1 gjøres klart hvilke forkunnskaper som er nødvendige for å kunne forstå og ha utbytte av å lese denne oppgaven. Det henvises også til litteratur som kan brukes som oppslagsverk hvis noen begreper under lesningen skulle være ukjente. I kapittel 2 klargjøres sentrale begreper som fikspunkt, kontraksjon og kompletthet. Dernest presenteres Banachs fikspunktteorem med bevis. Kapitlet peker også mot ulike anvendelser av teoremet. Kapittel 3 handler i sin helhet om den velkjente Newtons metode. I sin enkelthet demonstrerer den hvordan vi kan finne tilnærmede løsninger ved iterasjoner. Arbeid med denne metoden er derfor nyttig for forståelse av Banachs fikspunktteorem og anvendelser av teoremet i mer abstrakte sammenhenger. I kapittel 4 viser vi hvordan vi kan finne en tilnærmet løsning av en partiell differensialligning ved hjelp Jacobi-iterasjon. For å demonstrere metoden tar vi utgangspunkt i et velkjent varmeledningsproblem. Vi bruker Banachs fikspunktteorem for å vise at metoden kan brukes i vårt tilfelle. Dette leder oss inn i flere disipliner av matematikken, og vi får derved demonstrert ulike teknikker for å løse denne type problemer. I kapittel 5 dreier det seg om differensialligninger og integralligninger. Som vi skal se har Picards entydighets- og eksistensteorem nær tilknytning til Banachs fikspunktteorem. Vi vil få demonstrert hvordan metoden kan brukes til å finne tilnærmede løsninger og i noen tilfeller eksakte løsninger av ordinære differensialligninger. Vi gir også et enkelt eksempel på bruk av Banachs fikspunktteorem i forhold til en spesiell type integralligning, Fredholm-ligninger. I kapittel 6 bruker vi Banachs fikspunktteorem til å bevise det inverse funksjonsteoremet. I kapittel 7 er siktemålet å sette The Scottish Café inn i en kulturhistorisk sammenheng. Vi begynner med å skissere et historisk bakteppe hvor vi søker å gi en viss oversikt over Polens historie. Behandlingen av jøder i Polen fram til 1940 blir et hovedtema. Dernest beskriver vi historien til The Scottish Café. Vi gir også en vurdering av hvilke faktorer som hadde betydning for utviklingen av miljøet. Noe av hovedkonklusjonen er at utviklinv vi gen av de sterke matematikkmiljøene i Polen i mellomkrigstiden langt på vei kan sees på som en del av nasjonsbyggingen i Polen. Utviklingen av det spesielle og særegne miljøet i The Scottish Café kan derimot sees som en reaksjon på antisemittismen i det polske samfunnet. I kapittel 8 finner vi noen refleksjoner over det vi har arbeidet med.</p>

Det er vist at begge transformene er symmetriske, det vil si at invers fouriertransform er også definert på samme rom. Vi har definert Koszul-algebraer som graderte algebraer hvor de simple modulene har en lineær gradert projektiv oppløsning, og vi har bevist forskjellige karakteriseringer av Koszul-algebraer. Vi har bevist at alle Koszul-algebraer er kvadratiske algebraer, og at Yoneda-algebraen til en Koszul-algebra selv er en Koszul-algebra. Vi har sett at alle monomielle kvadratiske algebraer er Koszul-algebraer, og at en algebra som har en kvadratisk Gröbnerbasis er en Koszul-algebra. Tilslutt har vi sett at algebraer på formen kQ/(f), hvor f er kvadratisk, vil være Koszul-algebraer. Vi har for to klasser av kvadratiske algebraer talt hvor mange av algebraene som var Koszul-algebraer. Det ene klassen av algebraer besto av bare Koszul-algebraer, mens for den andre klassen av algebraer så vi at ca 25% algebraene ikke var Koszul-algebraer.</p>

<p>Masteroppgaven er innen algebra, nærmere bestemt Koszul-teori for algebraer. Koszul-algebraer, ble først definert av Priddy, har en sentral rolle innen algebra, geometri og topologi. Projektive moduler er viktige for å finne invarianter av moduler og ringer, både for kommutative og ikke-kommutative ringer. Over Koszul-algebraer er det en stor klasse av moduler som har projektive oppløsninger med en fin lineær struktur. I tillegg er det kjent at alle Koszul-algebraer er kvadratiske algebraer, men det er ikke kjent en metode for å avgjøre når en kvadratisk algebra er Koszul eller ikke. Denne masteroppgaven vil gi en innføring i teorien for Koszul-algebraer, og spesielt undersøke kvadratiske algebraer over endelige kropper. Over endelige kropper så finnes det bare endelig mange kvadratiske algebraer. For konkrete eksempler så ønsker en å finne hvor mange av de kvadratiske algebraer som er Koszul og i tillegg undersøke isomorfi-klassene av disse.</p>

<p>This thesis will give an introduction to the concepts of cellular automata and higher order cellular automata, and go through several examples of both. Cellular automata are discrete systems of cells in an n-dimensional grid. The cells interact with each other through the use of a rule depending only on local characteristics, which lead to some global behaviour. Higher order cellular automata are hierarchical structures of cellular automata with added possibilities for dynamic local interaction. We first give an introduction for non-mathematicians. A mathematical definition of cellular automata follows, and we illustrate the many possibilities with a few examples. Higher order cellular automata are introduced and defined, and we look at the consequences higher order cellular automata has on optimization of computer implementations. Finally we apply higher order structures to some of the examples, and study the effects.</p>

<p>Today, UltraSound (US) images are often used in medical examination and surgery. An improvement of the quality of these US-images will lead to many advantages, which is a big motivation for research on this field. One obstacle in improving the quality of the images is the presence of noise and texture. In order to distinguish this unwanted information from the interesting objects, different techniques can be used. Characteristic features, such as the ability to find vague contours, small objects or edges of small strength, decides if the technique is suitable for analysing noisy signals. This thesis presents different techniques for finding objects in US-images by using the continuous wavelet-transform. One observation from the analysis is that for edge-detectors using the wavelet-transform at a single scale, there is a compromise between accuracy and reliability. One has to choose between detecting small objects or vague contours. At fine scales one is able to detect small objects, but not objects with a vague contour without including redundant information. At coarse scales one is able to detect vague contours without including redundant information, but one will not detect small objects. The Lipschitz-regularity and the length of a maxima-line in the time-scale plane works well to find the points where the signal changes with a long duration, but is less suitable to find small objects and to remove unwanted information. By using the value of the wavelet-transform at several scales, it is possible to find vague contours in images, small objects, and edges of small strength compared to the strength of the noise. Another important observation from the analysis is that use of the circumference of objects is appropriate in order to find the most important objects in an image. Using this information has been very useful with respect to the analysis of US-images. Medical ultra-sound images are in general of varying quality. In addition the quality of a US-image will typically change within the signal, and changes with respect to the quality of the contour of objects and the influence of noise. The technique which in general is most reliable and produces the best representations of the US-images analysed in this thesis, uses information about the amplitude of the wavelet-transform both within and across scales, in addition to information about the circumference of the objects. This combined edge-detector is reliable with respect to represent the important objects in the image, and this representation is often easily obtained by the edge-detector.</p>

<p>We consider systems of complex exponential functions in spaces of square integrable functions. Some classical one-dimensional theory is reviewed, in particular, we emphasize the duality between the Riesz bases of complex exponential functions in $L^2$-spaces and complete interpolating sequences in $PW^2$-spaces of entire functions of exponential type. Basis properties for $L^2$-spaces over planar convex domains are then studied in detail. The convex domain in question is shown to be crucial for what basis properties the corresponding $L^2$-space possesses. We explain some results related to Fuglede's conjecture about existence of orthonormal bases and then a result by Lyubarskii and Rashkovskii regarding Riesz bases for $L^2$-spaces over convex polygons, symmetric with respect to the origin. Finally, we make a modest attempt to apply the techniques by Lyubarskii and Rashkovskii combined with approximation of plurisubharmonic functions using logarithms of moduli of entire functions, to construct a complete system of exponential functions in the space of square integrable functions over a disk. This work is not completed yet.</p>

A thorough presentation of stochastic analysis for processes with discontinuous paths are provided, and some results concerning these from mathematical finance are stated. Using a Feynman-Kac-type theorem by Pham we derive a partial integro-differential equation giving the forward price from the spot dynamics taken from Geman and Roncoroni. This spot model is regime switching, so we get two equations. These equations are then attempted solved numerically. We suggest the following approach: When implementing boundary-conditions numerically we use values obtained from a Monte Carlo simulation of the spot dynamics to calibrate the boundary.</p>

<p>The main result in this thesis is a new generalization of Selberg's inequality in Hilbert spaces with a proof. In Chapter 1 we define Hilbert spaces and give a proof of the Cauchy-Schwarz inequality and the Bessel inequality. As an example of application of the Cauchy-Schwarz inequality and the Bessel inequality, we give an estimate for the dimension of an eigenspace of an integral operator. Next we give a proof of Selberg's inequality including the equality conditions following [Furuta]. In Chapter 2 we give selected facts on positive semidefinite matrices with proofs or references. Then we use this theory for positive semidefinite matrices to study inequalities. First we give a proof of a generalized Bessel inequality following [Akhiezer,Glazman], then we use the same technique to give a new proof of Selberg's inequality. We conclude with a new generalization of Selberg's inequality with a proof. In the last section of Chapter 2 we show how the matrix approach developed in Chapter 2.1 and Chapter 2.2 can be used to obtain optimal frame bounds. We introduce a new notation for frame bounds.</p>

The main purpose of the paper is to study the relation $leq_n$ constructed by considering the ranks of $ntimes n$-matrices over $Lambda$ as $K$-endomorphisms on $M^n$ for a $Lambda$-module $M$. We write $Mleq_n N$ when for any $ntimes n$-matrix the rank with respect to $M$ is greater than or equal to the rank with respect to $N$. We study these relations for various algebras and determine when $leq_n$ is a partial order.</p>

<p>This master's thesis explores the area of combinatorics concerned with counting mathematical objects with regards to symmetry. Two main theorems in this field are Burnside's Lemma and P'{o}lya's Enumeration Theoremfootnote{P'{o}lya's Enumeration Theorem is also known as Redfield--P'{o}lya's Theorem.}. Both theorems yield a formula that will count mathematical objects with regard to a group of symmetries. Burnside's Lemma utilizes the concept of orbits to count mathematical objects with regard to symmetry. As a result of the Burnside Lemma's reliance on orbits, implementation of the lemma can be computationally heavy. In comparison, P'{o}lya's Enumeration Theorem's use of the cycle index of a group eases the computational burden. In addition, P'{o}lya's Enumeration Theorem allows for the introduction of weights allowing the reader to tackle more complicated problems. Building from basic definitions taken from abstract algebra a presentation of the theory leading up to P'{o}lya's Enumeration Theorem is given, complete with proofs. Examples are given throughout to illustrate these concepts. Applications of this theory are present in the enumeration of graphs and chemical compounds.</p>

In 1970 professional boxing became illegal in Sweden and in 2009 the prohibition was removed.Just before both of these changes in the law there were debates in media where people argued forand against ilegalization. In the later debate the focus has shifted from professional boxing toinclude Mixed Martial Arts(MMA) as well. MMA was governed and bound by the same law asprofessional boxing.This purpose of this paper is to compare the debate in 1968-1969 with the debate in 2006. The twodebates resulted in two different outcomes, ilegalization of professional boxing in 1970 and thenlegalization of it 2009. Are there any reason for these differences? What is the reasoning behindthis? By using hegemonic masculinity as a guidance when examining the debates this paper istrying to understand how the discourse have changed over time. The method is to analyze thediscourse in the debates by looking at morality, health and commercialization arguments.The result of this paper is that the arguments are similar in both debates. The values of thehegemonic masculinity is shown through six different topics. (1) How violence is perceived, (2) thefreedom of choice, (3) medias power to command and influence the people, (4) what is considered asport and what is considered an assault, (5) what the society allows children to be able to beinfluenced by and (6) the government's role as a regulator of the sports. The conclusion is that achange in the hegemonic masculinity can not be proven to be exclusively responsible for thedifferent outcomes of the debates. However, the examination of the discourse clearly shows theevolution of the values of the hegemonic masculinity.2

Arsenic is a toxic element that is widely distributed throughout the earth??s crust as a result of both natural geologic processes and anthropogenic activities. In virtually all environments, methylated forms of arsenic can be found. Because of the widespread distribution and toxicity of arsenic and methyl-arsenic, their adsorption behavior on soil minerals is of great interest. Although considerable attention has been given to the behavior of inorganic arsenic on mineral surfaces, little research has been conducted regarding interactions of the methyl-arsenic forms. The objective of this study was to compare the adsorption and desorption behavior of methylarsonate (MMAsV), methylarsonous acid (MMAsIII), dimethylarsinate (DMAsV), dimethylarsinous acid (DMAsIII), arsenate (iAsV), and arsenite (iAsIII) on iron oxide minerals (goethite and ferrihydrite) by means of adsorption isotherms and adsorption envelopes. Additionally, desorption envelopes were obtained using sulfate and phosphate as competitive ligands. Arsenic was measured by FI-HG-AAS. MMAsV and iAsV were adsorbed in higher amounts than DMAsV on goethite and ferrihydrite at all pH values studied. Although MMAsV and iAsV were adsorbed quantitatively at lower concentrations on goethite and ferrihydrite, as arsenic concentration was increased MMAsV was adsorbed in slightly lower quantities than iAsV. DMAsV was not quantitatively adsorbed at any concentration on goethite or ferrihydrite. MMAsV and iAsV exhibited high adsorption affinities on both goethite and ferrihydrite at pH values below 9 and showed decreasing adsorption above this point (more rapidly for MMAsV). DMAsV was adsorbed only at pH values below 8 on ferrihydrite and below 7 on goethite. MMAsV, iAsV, and DMAsV each exhibited adsorption characteristics suggesting specific adsorption on both goethite and ferrihydrite. Increased methyl substitution resulted in increased ease of arsenic release from the iron oxide surface. MMAsIII and DMAsIII exhibited no evidence for any type of specific adsorption under the conditions studied. Den svenska MMA marknaden är idag under hård kritik. Många människor menar att det endast är kriminella som håller på med kamsport och att de tävlingar som arrangeras är ren brutalitet. Trots det här så har vi idag väldigt stora aktörer på den svenska marknaden som inte bara klarar sig utan även växer. Men organisationerna har fortfarande den allmänna opinionen emot sig. Företagen försöker att framstå som så sportsliga och godartade som möjligt och de menar att MMA inte är våld utan en idrott. Organisationerna vill alltså bygga en god företagsimage i allmänhetens ögon. Fenomenet är väldigt intressant, Hur bygger ett företag en god image i en bransch som inte är socialt accepterad?Syftet med undersökningen är att fördjupa oss i hur företag skapar en god image i en marknad som är fylld med normer. Det är ett problem som inte har något riktigt svar och som vi inte kan lösa. Den marknad som vi har valt att undersöka är MMA branschen, eller rättare sagt tre av Sveriges största arrangörer av MMA galor. Vi har ställt dessa tre mot den teori som vi har om fenomenet för att komma fram till vissa sanningar kring problemet. Då vi inte har någon kunskap om fenomenet så har vi utforskat det under forskningens gång.Det vi kan konstatera utifrån vår undersökning är att framtiden för de olika organisationerna verkar ljus trots de hårda motgångar som företagen möter tack vare de sociala normerna. Det är även långt ifrån omöjligt att vända på en dålig situation om en organisation befinner sig på en sådan marknad som inte är socialt accepterad.

Previous issue date: 2018-08-23<br>The present work aims to analyze federal official documents that deal with Environmental
Education (EE) in order to identify convergences and divergences existing in the duality of origin
of these texts, since some of them are result of definitions given by the Ministry of Education
(MEC) and others are created, decided and implemented by the Ministry of Environment (MMA)
through the federal government. Therefore, the work is based under the emancipation potentiality
inscribed in the contemporary capitalist social reality. A qualitative approach was adopted, so that
the elements of the research were understood in their complexity. The methodological treatment
consisted, therefore, in the following main steps: 1) search and organization of the official material
according to the proposed objectives; 2) initial and exploratory reading of the material; 3)
documentary analysis with elements from the perspective of content analysis, guided by the
assumptions of the Critical Environmental Education. The data collected were examined in their
content, and from them emerged the following categories of analysis: approach, concepts,
objectives, principles and procedures for the realization of EE. We seek to establish throughout a
political position on environmentalism, which is defined in a critical and emancipatory perspective,
also aligned with the ideals of political ecology and environmental justice, occupied by the human
individual who uses natural resources and who manages conflicts arising from this dispute in the
political field. Among other findings, we identified that there are divergences between the concepts
and approach in the contents of National Orientations for Highschool (OCEM) in relation to the
content of ProNEA 2014 (National Program of Environmental Education), indicating that Ministry
of Education and MMA adopt EE concepts considered disparate, and MMA has turned to a
conservative perspective, notable in the latest version of ProNEA. We materialize the fluidity of
the EE concept in the different documents, which is often used to defend a capitalist productive
logic that is unsustainable in its conception. Although the official documents present difficulties of
execution on the part of the Brazilian state, the existence of a wide network of public policies in
EE, we believe, enables and stimulates, to the educator, the collaborators of public and private
institutions, as well as the environmental groups to think about the possibility of a social process
that leads us to a more just society from an environmental perspective, also reflecting the
broadening of the world view of these same actors. There is a need for greater sharing of actions
between the Ministry of Education and the MMA in order to establish more organic and
pedagogical relations of mobilization of Environmental Education fronts at the federal level, since
the lines of action between these bodies are now partially compatible as we have shown in our
analysis.<br>O objetivo do presente trabalho é analisar documentos oficiais federais que versam sobre Educação
Ambiental (EA) buscando identificar convergências e divergências existentes em decorrência da
duplicidade de origem destes textos, posto que alguns são fruto de definições dadas pelo Ministério
da Educação (MEC) e outros são criados, decididos e implantados através do Ministério do Meio
Ambiente (MMA) por meio do governo federal. Para tanto o trabalho se pauta na potencialidade de
emancipação da realidade social capitalista contemporânea. Adotou-se uma abordagem qualitativa,
de maneira que os elementos da pesquisa fossem compreendidos em sua complexidade. O
tratamento metodológico consistiu, portanto, nas seguintes etapas principais: 1) busca e
organização do material oficial de acordo com os objetivos propostos; 2) leitura inicial e
exploratória do material; 3) análise documental com elementos da perspectiva de análise de
conteúdo, orientada pelos pressupostos da Educação Ambiental Crítica (EAC). Os dados coletados
foram examinados em seu conteúdo, sendo que destes emergiram as seguintes categorias de
análise: abordagem, conceitos, objetivos, princípios e procedimentos para a realização da EA.
Buscamos estabelecer ao longo da escrita uma posição política sobre o ambientalismo, que se
define em uma perspectiva crítica e emancipatória, também alinhada aos ideais da ecologia política
e da justiça ambiental, ocupada do indivíduo humano que se utiliza dos recursos naturais e que
administra os conflitos oriundos desta disputa no campo político. Dentre outras constatações,
identificamos que há divergências entre os conceitos e abordagem nos conteúdos das Orientações
Curriculares para o Ensino Médio (OCEM) em relação ao conteúdo do Programa Nacional de
Educação Ambiental 2014 (ProNEA), indicando que MEC e MMA adotam conceitos de EA
considerados díspares, sendo que o MMA tem se voltado para uma perspectiva conservadora,
notável na última versão do ProNEA. Materializamos a fluidez do conceito de EA nos diferentes
documentos, sendo este muitas vezes utilizado para defender uma lógica produtiva capitalista
mercantil insustentável em sua concepção. Ainda que os documentos oficiais apresentem
dificuldades de execução por parte do Estado brasileiro, a existência de uma ampla rede de
políticas públicas em EA, acreditamos, possibilita e estimula, ao educador, aos colaboradores de
instituições públicas e privadas, bem como aos coletivos ambientalistas pensar na possibilidade de
um processo social que nos conduza a uma sociedade mais justa na perspectiva ambiental,
refletindo, ainda, na ampliação da visão de mundo desses mesmos atores. Se faz necessário um
maior compartilhamento de ações entre o MEC e o MMA no sentido de estabelecer relações mais
orgânicas e pedagógicas de mobilização de frentes de EA em âmbito federal, posto que as linhas de
ação entre estes órgãos são, hoje, parcialmente compatíveis conforme demonstramos em nossa
análise.

Moreover, we show that a chosen decomposition into indecomposable modules of the middle term of an almost split sequence ending at an R-module of complexity 1 lying in a regular component of the Auslander-Reiten quiver has at most two summands. Furthermore, we prove that the regular component is of type ZA_{infinity} or ZA_{infinity}/<tau^n>. We use this to study modules with eventually constant and eventually periodic Betti numbers.

Denne masteroppgaven i analyse undersøker noen interesante matematiske problemer tilknyttet buemaking og bueskyting. Dette inkluderer temaer som form og optimering av en bue. Vi vil beskrive en bues form og hvordan denne formen avhenger av strenglengden, trekklengden og stivhetsfordelingen langs buen. Deretter finner vi uttrykk for buens elastiske energi og forsøker å optimere buens effektivitet med hensyn på de samme variablene. Dette leder til både diskrete og kontinuerlige optimeringsproblem der begrensingene, blant annet, er gitt av bueskytterens armlengde og armstyrke.Vi introduserer også den elastiske pendelen som et redskap for å undersøke den elastiske stangens dynamiske egenskaper. Pendelens bevegelser er styrt av stangens elastiske potensial og vi gir noen numeriske løsninger av denne bevegelsen. I tillegg forsøker vi å finne og klassifisere bifurkasjonslinjene i konfigurasjonsrommet.Tilslutt inkluderes to kapitler om henholdsvis elliptiske funksjoner og en utledning, fra generell lineær elastisitetsteori, av forholdet mellom en stangs krumning og kreftene som virker på stangen.

En vanlig orsak till brott i svetsade kolstålskonstruktioner kan härledas till små sprickbildningar som uppstår i svetsgodset eller det område av grundmaterialet som har påverkats strukturellt av energin från svetsprocessen, även kallad HAZ. Dessa sprickor uppstår ofta timmar eller dagar efter avslutad svetsning och beror på en kombination av väte, en hård och spröd mikrostruktur och närvaro av spänningar. För att undvika dessa sprickor kan man förvärma materialet innan svetsning. Den förhöjda arbetstemperaturen ger en långsammare svalning vilken minskar risken för martensitbildning och låter väte diffundera ut från svetsförbandets kritiska delar. Det finns olika beräkningsmodeller för att räkna ut den förvärmningstemperatur som krävs för att motverka dessa sprickor. De flesta av dem är grafiska men försök har gjorts att översätta dessa till matematiska algoritmer. Beräkningsmodellerna kan ge väldigt varierande temperaturer och olika modeller kan anses vara bäst tillämpade till olika stål. I denna rapport har det undersökts vilken beräkningsmodell som är bäst lämpad för konstruktionsstålet S355J2. Modellerna som har använts är den matematiska CET, de grafiska CEIIW och CEN samt matematiska tolkningar av de två sistnämnda. Utvärderingen har gjorts genom att svetsa upp prover på plåtar med en godstjocklek på 30 mm med en stegvis ökande förhöjd arbetstemperatur. Dessa prover har sedan genomgått både oförstörande och förstörande provning för att undersöka hur sprickbenägna de är. En analys av svetsförbandets mikrostruktur har också genomförts för att identifiera de mest kritiska zonerna. Det visade sig att de matematiska tolkningarna av de grafiska metoderna skiljde sig såpass mycket från sina grafiska motsvarigheter att de inte kan rekommenderas för användning. Det visade sig även att det inte fanns en beräkningsmodell av ursprungsmodellerna som var bäst lämpad för S355J2 utan valet berodde helt och hållet på vilken sträckenergi som användes då modellerna tar olika mycket hänsyn till denna. För en sträckenergi på över 1,6 kJ/mm rekommenderas CET-metoden som beräknade en temperatur som gav goda materialparametrar. För sträckenergier under 0,9 kJ/mm beräknar ingen metod en tillräckligt hög temperatur, men CEIIW är den som beräknar den högsta förhöjda arbetstemperaturen och rekommenderas därför för användning. Man bör dock ha i åtanke att den inte var tillräckligt hög och bör därför ses som en lågt räknad rekommendation. Mellan 0,9 kJ/mm och 1,6 kJ/mm har inga prover svetsats men rekommendationen är att använda sig av CET-metoden då den är enkel och beräknar högst temperatur. Vad det gäller svetsförbandets kritiska zoner så visade det sig att korntillväxtzonen var området där vätesprickor har störst förutsättningar för att uppstå.<br>One of the most common causes of failure in welded carbon steel constructions can be traced to small cracks that occur in the weld metal or in the area of the base metal that has been affected structurally by the energy from the welding process, also known as HAZ. These cracks can occur hours or days after the welding is completed and do so due to a combination of hydrogen that has penetrated the metal during the weld process, a hard and brittle microstructure and tensile stresses acting on the weld. A method to avoid these cracks is to preheat the material before welding. The increased temperature results in a slower cooling which reduces the risk of a martensitic microstructure and allow hydrogen to diffuse out of the most critical zones of the welded joint. There are many different methods for calculating the preheat temperature needed to counter these cracks. Most of them are solved graphically but attempts have been made to translate them into mathematical algorithms to facilitate calculations. The outcome of the methods may vary and different methods can be considered to be best applied to various steel. The purpose of this study is to investigate which method is best suited to determine the preheat temperature to eliminate the risk of hydrogen cracking for the structural steel S355J2. The methods used in this study was the mathematical CET, the graphic CEIIW and CEN and mathematical interpretations of the latter two. The evaluation was made by welding samples of plates with a thickness of 30 mm and with an incrementally increased preheat temperature. These samples were then subjected to both non-destructive and destructive testing to examine how prone they were to crack. An analysis of the weld microstructure was also conducted to identify the most critical zones. It turned out that the mathematical interpretations of the graphic methods differed so much from their graphical equivalent that they can not be recommended for use. It was also found that none of the original methods can be said to be best suited for S355J2 but the choice depended entirely on the heat input. For a heat input over 1.6 kJ/mm it is recommended to use the CET-method which estimated a temperature that gave good material parameters. For a heat input below 0.9 kJ/mm no method calculates a sufficiently high temperature, but the CEIIW-method is calculating the highest temperature and is therefore recommended for use. However, one should keep in mind that it was not sufficient and should therefore be seen as a conservative recommendation. No samples were welded between 0.9 kJ/mm and 1.6 kJ/mm but the recommendation is to use the CET- method because it is simple and calculates the maximum temperature. It was also found that the coarse grain zone was the area where hydrogen cracking is most likely to occur.

Caracterizado por incorporar estilos de luta derivados de outras artes marciais, envolve técnicas de agarre em pé, agarre no chão, técnicas de percussão em pé e exige nível de condicionamento físico elevado. De modo frequente, a prática de modalidades esportivas de combate
envolve a própria luta como método de treinamento físico e técnico e parece apresentar alta relevância, visto que é frequente o estudo de lutas simuladas em diversas modalidades de combate. Com isto, torna-se relevante o conhecimento das características destas práticas de treinamento, visto que, já foi evidenciado que lutas simuladas apresentam respostas diferenciadas de combates em eventos oficiais. Neste sentido, a relação entre esforço e pausa das lutas tem sido fortemente sugerida como método para prescrição de treinamento, o que aponta a necessidade do conhecimento destas variáveis em lutas simuladas. Adicionalmente, o conhecimento do estresse físico, orgânico e percebido dos atletas, a partir destes estímulos, se torna necessário para melhor adequação do processo de planejamento e organização. Deste modo, a redução dos fatores empíricos de prescrição pode promover maior previsibilidade das adaptações e reduzir os riscos de overtraining, já que esta realidade deve ser fortemente considerada no MMA. Assim, considerando que grande parte do entendimento acerca do MMA é advinda das modalidades que o compõem, torna-se relevante a descrição das demandas orgânicas, físicas e psicométricas originadas especificamente da simulação de lutas de MMA e as relações destes com a temporalidade das lutas, bem como a caracterização dos processos recuperativos de indicadores do dano muscular advindo desta prática.<br>Among the different types of fighting, Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) has grown rapidly in the international scenario. Characterized by incorporating fighting styles derived from other martial arts techniques involves standing grappling, groundwork grappling percussion techniques and require high fitness level. So often, the practice of sports of combat involves his own struggle as a method of physical and technical training
and introduce high relevance, since it is often the study of simulated fights in various modes of combat. With this, it becomes relevant knowledge of the characteristics of these training practices, as has been evidenced that simulated fights have differentiated responses of fighting in official events. In this sense, the relationship between effort and pause of the fighting has been strongly suggested as a method for training prescription, what points the need of knowledge of these variables in simulated fights.
