Context Movement screening has become increasingly popular among tactical professionals. This popularity has motivated the design of interventions that cater to improving outcomes on the screens themselves, which are often scored in reference to an objective norm. In contrast to the assumptions underlying this approach, dynamical systems theory suggests that movements arise as a function of continuously evolving constraints and that optimal movement strategies may not exist. To date, few data address behavioral complexity in the fundamental movement tasks commonly used in clinical screenings.

Abstract:
This chapter considers low-complexity detection in hybrid Direct-Sequence Time-Hopping (DS-TH) Ultrawide Bandwidth (UWB) systems. A range of Minimum Mean-Square Error (MMSE) assisted Multiuser Detection (MUD) schemes are comparatively investigated with emphasis on the low-complexity adaptive MMSE-MUDs, which are free from channel estimation. In this contribution, three types of adaptive MUDs are considered, which are derived based on the principles of Least Mean-Square (LMS), Normalized Least Mean-Square (NLMS), and Recursive Least-Square (RLS), respectively. The authors study comparatively the achievable Bit Error-Rate (BER) performance of these adaptive MUDs and of the ideal MMSE-MUD, which requires ideal knowledge about the UWB channels and the signature sequences of all active users. Both the advantages and disadvantages of the various adaptive MUDs are analyzed when communicating over indoor UWB channels modeled by the Saleh-Valenzuela (S-V) channel model. Furthermore, the complexity of the adaptive MUDs is analyzed and compared with that of the single-user RAKE receiver and also with that of the ideal MMSE-MUD. The study and simulation results show that the considered adaptive MUDs constitute feasible detection techniques for deployment in practical UWB systems. It can be shown that, with the aid of a training sequence of reasonable length, an adaptive MUD is capable of achieving a similar BER performance as the ideal MMSE-MUD while requiring a complexity that is even lower than that of a corresponding RAKE receiver.

Abstract:
Prior research focusing on the market maven (MM) neglects to consider the possible existence of people who may represent an important source of marketplace information for MMs—the market guru (MG). A “market guru” is a consumer others frequently seek out for advice but who does not seek advice from others. In contrast to MG, a MM is a consumer who other consumers frequently ask for advice and who frequently seeks advice from others. This study raises the proposition that a greater share of MGs versus MMs are innovators, that is, individuals who rely on technical reports to become the first to adopt new products in her or his community. This study applies fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fs/QCA) to distinguish between MMs and MGs using multi-year data from a national U.S. omnibus survey. The findings support several propositions distinguishing MGs from MMs. MMs evaluate themselves as great influencers of consumers, highly sensitive to normative susceptibility, and possessing superior taste. However, MGs evaluate themselves exactly the opposite from MMs on these conditions.

This chapter aims at describing a new platform for mobile and interactive learning targeted as an effective communication medium between the professor and students during lectures. In this system, students and professors will be equipped with a Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) capable device (which may be PDAs, Laptops, or Tablet PCs) that is connected on the campus-wide Wireless LAN. During lectures, students can ask questions, response to questions or give immediate feedback on the lecture simply by composing a MMS message and sending it to the professor. The main advantage of this learning system is that MMS messaging is easily extensible to the mobile GSM networks, so students are not restricted to use it only on campus. In addition to enabling better interaction between students and instructor, an approach to facilitate student-to-student interaction during a lecture for peer-to-peer learning is proposed, which can be easily integrated into our existing system.

Abstract:
The t-spanner problem is a popular combinatorial optimization problem and has different applications in communication networks and distributed systems. This chapter considers the problem of constructing a t-spanner subgraph H in a given undirected edge-weighted graph G in the sense that the distance between every pair of vertices in H is at most t times the shortest distance between the two vertices in G. The value of t, called the stretch factor, quantifies the quality of the distance approximation of the corresponding t-spanner subgraph. This chapter studies two variations of the problem, the Minimum t-Spanner Subgraph (MtSS) and the Minimum Maximum Stretch Spanning Tree(MMST). Given a value for the stretch factor t, the MtSS problem asks to find the t-spanner subgraph of the minimum total weight in G. The MMST problem looks for a tree T in G that minimizes the maximum distance between all pairs of vertices in V (i.e., minimizing the stretch factor of the constructed tree). It is easy to conclude from the literatures that the above problems are NP-hard. This chapter presents genetic algorithms that returns a high quality solution for those two problems.

Abstract:
This chapter discusses some views on individual and collective genius. Chateaubriand and Mme de Staël each construct a view of collective genius that relates to individual genius in relatively complex ways. But as time goes on, and especially when it takes the form of encomium rather than analysis, such relations are apt to lose all complexity: the individual is either a microcosmic replica of the national macrocosm, or else finds himself at odds with a national or social whole that rejects the creative contributions he seeks to offer to its glory and for which he is denied recognition. This chapter first considers the concept of the “genius of mankind” where human genius is a reflection and a revelation of the divine, before turning to the figure of “le poète malheureux” (“the unhappy poet”).

Abstract:
There are several tests to value the psychophysical characteristics of older people and, among all, the most suitable to this aim are here considered the Functional Reach (FR) test, as an index of the aptitude to maintain balance in upright position, and the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE), as a global index of cognitive abilities. The sample of older people we have analysed concerns 50 healthy subjects divided into three groups according to the age (15 from 55 to 64 years old, 19 from 65 to 74 years old, and 16 more than 75 years old); they underwent a FR test, which consists first in th

Abstract:
The Data Quality Objective Procedure (DQOP) method aids implementing environmental polices, as engineering solutions. Pollution control issues identified and addressed through new environmental legislation need to be implemented. The metal matrix encapsulation (MME) treatment works as a toxicity reduction exercise that can legally control disposal of fly ashes from waste-to-energy plants. The MME process aids with the implementation of European Union (EU) legislation such as the Waste Incineration Directive by allowing fly ashes to be disposed of in landfill sites. By using the DQOP, as shown

Abstract:
The maximin share (MMS) guarantee is a desirable fairness notion for allocating indivisible goods. While MMS allocations do not always exist, several approximation techniques have been developed to ensure that all agents receive a fraction of their maximin share. We focus on an alternative approximation notion, based on the population of agents, that seeks to guarantee MMS for a fraction of agents. We show that no optimal approximation algorithm can satisfy more than a constant number of agents, and discuss the existence and computation of MMS for all but one agent and its relation to approxim
