Malaysia and Indonesia have been the main sources of supply for palm oil (PO), palm kernel oil (PKO), and other palm-related derivatives for most multi-national companies (MNCs). However, deforestation, new legislation in Europe, and stakeholder expectations have posed significant challenges to this industry. In response to these challenges, companies are looking at driving key sustainability initiatives in palm oil supply chains while remaining beneficial to the farmers. This chapter discusses the findings of a collaborative research project conducted through active academic-industry collaboration in South East Asia and shares an approach to identify and incorporate traceability within the supply chain. Critically, it also aims to provide a framework for both academicians and practitioners towards developing a collaborative approach of driving sustainability goals in difficult to measure parts of the supply chain. Importantly, this work also highlights the key aspects of implementing sustainability practices in the upstream palm oil supply chains, which are often ignored.

The huge market and perfect production system in China are attracting more multi-national companies’ interest to invest in China in the form of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). Therefore, multi-national companies are willing to integrate and optimize global supply chain networks of their own, which enable them to reduce cost and improve market response. As a result, multi-national companies usually embed into local industrial clusters through financial and technological comparative merits to sharpen their competitive edge. This paper considers the across-chain network equilibrium problem involving process of competition and melting between this new global chain and an already existing local chain. The authors model the optimizing behavior of these two chains, derive the equilibrium conditions, and establish the variational inequality formulation, and solve it by using the modified algorithm. Finally, the authors illustrate the model through numerical example and discuss relationships among the price, quantity, technological progress, and satisfaction among two dynamic phases.

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system in companies can be implemented to Multi National Corporation (MNC), Larger Enterprise, and Small &amp; Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs). In China, 99% of all companies can be categorized as SMEs. With a decade of high-speed economy development after entering the 21st century, traditional Chinese SMEs want to find a new management model to improve work efficiency and increase business opportunities. This study finds the factors affecting the diffusion and successful implementation of ERP in Chinese Nanjing manufacturing SMEs. It will lead to the conclusion that ERP investment and implementation, which could be used as project guideline by the management of SMEs or companies that adopt ERP in intend to implement them. The objective is to provide Nanjing’s SMEs implementing ERP with knowledge about ERP implementation factors.
