Vocalisation rates were measured from North Atlantic right whales (Eubalaena glacialis) in spring 1999-2000 in the Great South Channel and off Cape Cod, USA, and in summer 1999-2000 in the Bay of Fundy, Canada. Vocalisations were classed as either ‘moans’, ‘low-frequency (LF) calls’ or ‘gunshots’. Towed hydrophone recordings (36.1 hours) were made in 21 encounters where loose aggregations of right whales were within about 1,000m. The sounds that emanate from the dancers as they begin to crumble toward the floor spews from their bodies in loud painful moans; they reach upwards only to fall back to the ground. A unified group gesture—the initial formulaic but also functional gesture of French baroque declamation—disintegrates into disjointed formations and chaotic noise. Sounds echo off the small performance space, amplifying and confusing the tumultuous din. The author presents his writing as dissonance, allegorizing his text as a strange-sounding lyre as he recounts the nefarious adventures of the misanthropic Maldoror. Despite the sonic nature of this text, evident even in its title, few have engaged with the sounds of Lautréamont’s work. A sixty-seven-year-old female patient presented with symptomatic hypercalcemia as the first manifestation of primary hyperparathyroidism due to parathyroid adenoma. Initially the chronic hypercalcemia was investigated and then subsequent parathyroidectomy was done. Shad was a poet, critic, playwright, researcher and an intellectual. In beginning he wrote poetry in Urdu and later in the Balochi language. Shad is considered the architect of modern symbolic Balochi poetry. He was inspired by the tutelage of Faiz Ahmed Faiz but soon felt the need to evolve his own style of poetry.
