Abstract:
Mobile Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is still a very young topic which is in the pro-cess of developing in practice and research. Reviews of the topic of mobile ERP are lack-ing. The purpose of  this  thesis  is  to  investigate how the concept of “Mobile ERP” has evolved by reviewing scientific articles on the topic from 1998 until June 2013. The total amount of articles we found when using the search term “Mobile ERP” was 246 articles and we could access 129 articles. These are the articles used for the literature review. We found, based on a framework used in previous studies for ERP that there are nine topic categories in which the articles can be divided and each category has a different evolution-ary level compared to the research area of “non-mobile ERP”. Mobile ERP has a signifi-cantly smaller number of results compared to ERP which had 886 articles in Schlichter & Kraemmergaard (2010). The nine topic categories are the following: Implementation of Mobile ERP, Management and Mobile ERP issues, Mobile ERP and Supply Chain Management, Optimisation of Mo-bile ERP, Mobile ERP and education, Studying Mobile ERP, The mobile ERP Market and Industry, The Mobile ERP Tool and Other. The topic with the most articles is “The Mobile ERP tool” followed by the topic “Other”, in which we have included both articles that have no relevance and articles that are very general and which cannot be categorized in only one category clearly. In third place comes “Optimisation of Mobile ERP” followed by “Implementation of Mobile ERP”, “Manage-ment and Mobile ERP issues”, “The Mobile ERP market and industry”, “Mobile ERP and supply chain management”, “Studying Mobile ERP” and last comes “Mobile ERP and ed-ucation” which is the only topic in which we did not manage to categorize any articles.

Abstract:
The evolvement of technology within the business world has transformed both organizations and people involved. As the business world is rapidly changing it requires organizations to adapt to new trends to be able to compete and to gain competitive advantage. The widely developed and used mobile business-to-customer applications have generated the realization that the technology can be used by organizations for their mobile employees to gain competitive advantage. Therefore, we have investigated the functionality of information integration between mobile applications and ERP systems for mobile employees, and the benefits and challenges it has. The research is an exploratory investigation about how the new trend within mobility is to be seen within the business world. With the use of an inductive and qualitative research approach, we started with no previous theories to get an understanding of the subject. In the use of mobile business-to-employee applications, the most important information integration is the one between ERP systems and mobile applications since it is the organizational information that is needed for the mobile workers. The result of the research is that it is more common with a single, oneway integration in terms of either input or output between ERP systems and mobile applications. The more advanced two-way integration exists and is increasing in the area of internal use of mobile applications for organizations. Additionally, there are a lot of benefits to gain from when working with mobile applications for organizations, for example to increase the productivity of mobile employees. There are also challenges that need to be discussed before deciding to invest in enterprise mobility, for example security aspects.

Abstract:
This thesis is focused on the use of enterprise information systems (ERP) provided as a service (SaaS) together with mobile technologies in an enterprise with logistics activities. The goal of the thesis is to find out whether a Czech market offers the ERP provided as a service suitable for needs of the model enterprise. This is achieved by specifying a set of criteria and following comparison and evaluation of the chosen ERP systems in two phases. The result is one chosen system which suits the best to specified criteria and therefore the needs of the model enterprise. Subsequently for the chosen system (and its offered func-tionalities) possibilities of its use with mobile technologies are described for model enterprise processes.

Abstract:
The development in information systems has led to an increasing number ofbusinesses wishing to digitize their work processes. The growing mobile use ofEnterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems on devices such as smartphones andtablets has led businesses to place greater demands on their information systems andsuppliers of these. ERP system in the future must be able to function mobile andfacilitate the work for the employees instead of being another IT system that will solvethe organisation's all challenges. This case study was made at a wholesale company in Skåne, which was in the midstof an ERP implementation with Microsoft Dynamics. This study has investigated howthe work with business processes looked before and during the implementation of thenew system. The background to the case study was to investigate whether there wereany correlation between how well the business processes were evaluated, adapted andhow successful the business's ERP implementation was. The case study aims toinvestigate how process modeling and Business Process Management (BPM) cansupport this kind of implementation of mobile ERP systems. The activity in the study is a mediumsizedsales and distribution company withoffices in 4 Swedish locations. In 2015, the business began digitizing the entireorganization. The IT system consisted of several different systems that had beenadapted over time to fit the needs of the organisation. As part of the implementation, they chose to use a Business Process Modeling tool to introduce the system and trainthe users of the processes in the new system. The implementation phase of the projectbegan in February 2017 and in February 2019 the business still has not set a Golivedate. The average time for an ERP implementation is 17.4 months [5]. Since theGolivedate business has been moved, it is now considered that the operation'simplementation is delayed and over the average time. The work on the processes before the actual start of the project is perceived asinadequate from BPM, the conclusion is drawn that the delay of the "Go live date" ispartly due to the fact that the company and the organization have not analyzed theirown processes and have relied too much on the consulting company and RapidValueBPM to handle learning and implementation.

Abstract:
Smartphones and other mobile devices are a common sight in our daily lives. The improvement in technology has given us small and portable devices that have the performance only found in desktop computers and more high-end devices less than a decade ago. An industry that has been quick to adopt technologies in the past is the manufacturing industry, examples of these adoptions are the conveyor belt and robots, which both are innovations of their time. Aside from hardware technologies, there are software technologies that the manufacturing industry has been using, e.g. complex information systems to manage materials and resources in the production. With the developments in mobile technology, a question arises whether the information systems can be combined with it in the manufacturing companies. One of the technologies that has become popular in the past years is the use of mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. These kinds of devices can improve communication and flexibility. This leads us to the purpose of identifying how the use of ERP-connected mobile and mobility-supporting devices can affect processes among shop floor and production management personnel in large manufacturing companies. Using a qualitative approach, case studies of eleven companies were conducted using semi-structured interviews and direct observations. Personnel with different roles were interviewed to identify applications and devices that would reduce execution time, improve quality, or improve the flexibility of processes and tasks. These eleven companies were analysed with a model that focus on the dimensions complexity, specificity, and dynamism of a company's production structure, as well as a model that focus on the same dimensions in the roles of production personnel. The result was six applications and corresponding devices that could improve the effectiveness and efficiency of a process in a significant way. The analysis showed that the management in companies had similar needs in mobile or mobility-supporting devices. Similarly, the assemblers and machine operators also had similar needs. No connection was found between the production strategy and the need for mobile or mobility-supporting devices.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to investigate the reason behind thedecision by a company regarding the desire to use mobile access to theirERP-system and to discover whether this will involve any loss offunctionally in comparison to using the ERP-system on a computer atthe office. In addition, the pros and cons involved in using mobiledevices for accessing the ERP-system will also be examined. Semistructured telephone interviews were conducted with companies whicheither used or did not use mobile devices in relation to their work. Atelephone interview was also conducted with a consultant who isworking with the implementation of ERP-systems and mobile solutions. The survey showed that companies with staff working in the field assellers, service personnel and construction workers want to gain directaccess to their ERP-system so as to be able to act directly and takedecisions, to have the ability to provide more efficient order processingand to send out invoices more quickly. Those companies which have notopted to use mobile devices at work within this field are those whichare unsure of the connection to the Internet and the capacities availablewithin cellphones. The disadvantages have, in general, been found toinvolve a lack of connection to the Internet in order to gain access to thesystem used by the company. The benefits associated with mobile usagefor those companies with staff whose duties are not totally office basedinclude saving a great deal of time and money. The quality offered isalso increased through the implementation of these mobile devices, which have the ability to access selected parts of an ERP-system or afinancial system. What has been determined through this study is that ifcompanies choose to implement these mobile devices, it is possible forthem to achieve better cash flows, lower transaction costs and the abilityto updated information directly and also for there to be a reduced risk ofmisunderstandings with customers. There is some loss of functionalityfor companies when comparing the use of mobile devices as opposed tousing a computer. However, it is possible to select those features that aremost suitable for mobile devices which are related to the screen, workenvironment and the users who are involved. The reason for firms not tochoose to implement these devices is mainly due to uncertaintyregarding capacity, Internet connection, and lack of coverage and thesmall screens associated with the phones.

The use of Mobile and Wireless Information Technologies (MWIT) is outstandingly fast in every country of the world, from mobile phones, smartphones, laptops or tablets connected through wireless networks. The use of ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) is completely spread among organizations, being a much studied topic since the late 90s. The use of MWIT with ERP systems is something that, even being used quite often in companies, has not been studied in academic field, and for that this paper attempts to identify how ERP systems have been used in an enterprise mobility perspective and what are the results of this use for the adopters. This paper is an exploratory research and is divided in three parts, the first one a survey with suppliers of ERP systems, the second a study on what features of ERP with mobility are used in three companies and to finish, a multiple study case with three companies users of ERP with mobility. The results show that only 34% of the surveyed ERP systems suppliers have mobile applications for their ERP. In addition, most applications (53%) is focused on sales, which reflects on the researched companies that only use sales support applications. Finally, it is shown that, in the studied companies, the use of ERP with mobility has increased productivity and efficiency, reduced costs, increased surveillance and control over employees and improved users life quality. It was also discovered that some research proposals could not be confirmed by the use of ERP with mobility, including data overload, improvement in relationship with customers and suppliers, improvement in organizational communication and profit increase.

Abstract:
Many businesses today use enterprise resource planning systems (ERP) to handle their processes and information. ERP systems are generically designed to be able to fit a wide range of businesses. This generic composition creates a customization need, something that is not always so easy to handle. To customize ERP system is through research well known to be a both costly and complex task, several studies suggest the business should adapt to the system instead. From factors such as a rapid technical development, shifts in the market, and internal changes within the organization, need for change can arise over time. Likewise, new tools have been developed to meet business specific needs, such as the low-code BPM platform. Low-code BPM platforms can be seen as development tools for stand-alone applications and integrated solutions to be used to meet business needs.  With a case study, we investigate how a low-code BPM platform can be used as an alternative for ERP customization, as well as what types of business needs a low-code BPM platform can meet. The study includes four interviews and an artifact study at a Swedish IT service company, who offer customers solutions developed through their low-code BPM platform.  The results show low-code BPM platforms to be used as stand-alone applications, integration engines, or embedded in the ERP interface. Solutions developed on a low-code BPM platform have a clear focus on end-users. The study identifies business needs of mobile access to ERP-system, customization of processes according to existing business operations, increased access to information, guiding user interfaces, and improved collaboration

Abstract:
This thesis reflects about a particular process: the transmedia and its potential to create new interactive and artistic possibilities that appropriate from the digital environments. The technological dissemination in people\'s daily lives in the past decades leverages a media proliferation and diversification that propitiate a fertile environment for the development of transmedia processes. Although transmedia is not a new phenomenon, the new possibilities that the actual digital environment provide -- hiper-connected and rich in new media and interfaces -- are countless, not only in the field of Arts, but also in any other areas related to communication, information and interaction. New interactive modes bring with themselves new possibilities as much as new challenges. The focus of this work is the emergent transmedia context and the opportunities and challenges that rise from its use. The scope here also involves the presentation and analysis of some artworks that take advantage from the use of transmedia as a fundamental process to their development, not being able to exist in any other scenario than the present one. It was developed by the author four artworks as transmedia experimentation that reflect the achieved results.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Evidence-based practice (EBP) is a key driver of care and advancements within nursing. It is essential to emphasize EBP early in a nurse's career to promote inquisitive minds and enthusiasm for seeking evidence. The purpose of this project was to implement an EBP mobile app into a nurse residency program (NRP) to improve the process of providing EBP information and resources to new graduate nurses. The intent of the project was to leverage mobile technology to engage new graduate nurses in evidence-based practice. Roger's diffusion of innovation framework guided the project. The target audience for the project was 16 new graduate RNs participating in a health system's NRP who attend the EBP module and were required to complete an EBP project. The EBP module was provided during a classroom lecture and the mobile application was downloaded. After using the EBP module, all attendees were sent an electronic survey with open-ended questions related to the mobile application. Responses were reviewed to identify patterns. Survey responses reflected that a 50% did not utilize the mobile application. However, those that did use the mobile application (50%) found it useful and had a positive perception of the mobile application. Continued use of the mobile application and promotion of the mobile application for new graduate nurses may help with their own personal development of an EBP project. Ultimately, allowing nurses to effectively integrate nursing research into practice and impact patient care quality. This project impacted social change by empowering new nurses with knowledge and information related to evidence based practice and allowed for increased information to be accessible to a large audience of new graduate nurses.

Abstract:
How people create and use information scraps, the small informal messages that people write to themselves to help them complete a task or remember something, has changed rapidly in the age of mobile computing. As recently as 2008, information scraps had continued to resist technological support. Since then, however, people have adopted mobile connected devices at a rate unimagined in the pre-smartphone era. Developers have, in turn, created a varied and growing body of smartphone software that supports many common information scrap use-cases. In this thesis, we describe our research into how and why people have adopted smartphone technology to serve their information scrap needs. The results of our survey show broad adoption of smartphones for many common information scrap tasks, particularly ones involving prospective memory. In addition, the results of our diary studies show that mobile contexts or locations are highly correlated with people's choosing to use smartphones to record information scraps. Our analysis of our diary study data also provides fresh understanding of the information scrap lifecycle and how mobile digital technology affects it. We find people's smartphone information scraps tend toward automatic archival, and we find their information scraps in general tend toward substantial role overlap regardless of medium. We use these findings to formulate a new information scrap lifecycle that is inclusive of mobile technology. These insights will help mobile technology creators to better support information scraps, which, in turn will allow users to enjoy the huge benefits of digital technology in their information scrap tasks.

Abstract:
This study examines Chinese gay men’s self-presentation on dating app Blued by utilizing a mixed-methods approach. Two studies were conducted. In study 1, 930 profiles were collected and analyzed to gain a quantitative understanding about how Chinese gay men utilize both photographic and textual elements to present themselves on Blued. To further investigate how and why Chinese gay men present themselves visually and textually in certain ways, 30 Blued users were interviewed in study 2. According to the findings of study 1, only about a third of Chinese gay men’s profiles contained at least a recognizable face photo in their Blued profiles. Correlations between demographics and face disclosure were test. Older gay men are less likely to disclose a face photo on Blued than younger gay men. Frequencies and percentage of masculinity, body and sport language were counted, and correlations between demographics and different types of language use were test. The percentage of masculinity, body and sport language used in Blued profiles are 37.6%, 20.9% and 6.2% respectively. Age, height and weight was found to be correlated with different types of language use. People who like using masculinity language are more likely to use body and sport language. The results of Study 2 shows that Chinese gay men have five major motives of constructing a Blued profile: looking for casual sex, looking for romantic/long term relationships, looking for friends, entertainment and seeking phycological comfort. Chinese gay men use a series of strategies to construct their profiles: paying attention to small cues, balancing authenticity and deception, establishing credibility, and bypassing technological constraints. Chinese gay men have different reasons for not disclosing a face photo in their Blued profiles. Worrying about exposing gay identity is the most frequently reported reason. Other reasons include: the design feature of the platform, location of the user, relational goals, lack of confidence in personal appearance, and concerns of photos being misused. Impression evaluation of other’s profiles have also impacted Chinese gay men’s Blued profile construction. When evaluating the profiles constructed by other gay men, Chinese gay men use three strategies: paying attention to small cues, filtering, and believing in rampant deception. This study fills the gap in the research regarding Chinese gay men’s self-presentation on mobile dating apps and indicates that self-presentation is sensitive to cultural and institutional factors.

Abstract:
The object of study of this research is the mobile ecosystem for the news distribution, attending at the same time to the development of mobile applications and information aggregators as their most characteristic vehicles. On the one hand, this is a exploratory study about and presents the result of an analysis of trends in the field of digital news media, as well as new mobile formats, all through a systematized review supported by reports from the main actors involved in the field of media and digital platforms, as well as reference authors. From this systematic review, a state of art of the mobile ecosystem issue has been developed. In addition, a study protocol consisting of an integrated mobile application analysis model has been developed that has allowed us to carry out a comparative study of them. Based on the protocol developed, we have applied the analysis system to a series of cases distributed in mobile applications (apps) of media and news aggregation. Last, but not least, we have developed the proposal of a group of patterns, based on the extension of the selected indicators of the analysis model, which has allowed us to deliver a set of enriched results that, in their coherent union, form a Comprehensive proposal of research results around our object of study.

Abstract:
This thesis is a reception study that examines potential reasons why the adolescent to college aged demographic of youth culture is embracing communicative and informational mobility. The project attests that the move to mobility is motivated by two major factors, the attraction of being an early adopter of technology and the way social behaviors are made attractive in mobile marketing. Chapter 1 explores the importance of these social behaviors, as they are very much intertwined and contribute to how youth acclimate into society. Chapter 2 demonstrates that creating social distinction and cultural capital is linked to being an early adopter of technology. The remaining portion of the document examines recent mobile advertisements and why youth would be attracted to the aesthetic and thematic elements contained in the advertisements. Chapter 3 examines how Blackberry utilizes the behavior of creating and expressing identity in their advertisements. Chapter 4 focuses on how Apple has worked to create a community centered around their brand. Finally, Chapter 5 looks at how Google/Android has highlighted the acquisition, sharing, and utilization of content through the phenomenon of applications. With this project, I hope to illustrate the rationale why youth would be attracted to communicative and informational mobility.

Abstract:
Pregnant and postpartum women often face high levels of psychological stress that increase the risk of common mental disorders (CMDs), such as depression and anxiety. This stress is often not met with timely mental health care and, therefore, may create health inequities. Mobile technology-assisted interventions represent a new opportunity for pregnant and postpartum women that may address health equity, especially during and after the COVID-19 era. We conducted an equity-focused systematic review and included 18 randomized and non-randomized controlled trials for analysis. Our results suggest that mobile interventions can prevent and manage depression across ethnicities and carry the potential to reduce psychological distress. Evidence on anxiety and utilization of care was limited and more research is needed among pregnant adolescents. Our collaborative research approach highlights the potential of mobile technologies and the need for active involvement of patients and other stakeholders in the co-creation and evaluation of mobile interventions.

Full text
Abstract:
This study, for the first time, brings together the detached understanding that facilitates coherent analysis of the emerging legal and regulatory issues that mobile payments introduce after financial inclusion in Kenya. To pursue these arguments firstly the thesis finds that the law on payments systems is incomplete as it does not address the specific issues necessary for an effective payments systems. It also puts forward the argument that the current regulatory regime is weak and largely unfelt due to its nascent state of development. Furthermore the current legal instruments are dispersed, and not uniformly applied among and across all payments systems and instruments as there exists an ambiguity in the legal definition of ‘mobile money’ and ‘deposits’ that present legal challenges in the enforcement of new regulations. Secondly, the cross-roads between the telecommunications industry and the financial industry that introduces non-banks into the retail payments market, presents a challenge in its effective regulation. As policy objectives are blurred when firms which are traditionally separated have to find appropriate regulatory frameworks in convergence. Thirdly this thesis examines the approach taken by Kenya in regulating mobile payments juxtaposing the realities that combine to blunt the impact of innovation and access to finance. This thesis serves as a foundational discussion on the regulatory capacity for the adoption and development of mobile payments within a regulatory vacuum and proposes that an appropriate regulatory framework is needed to addresses all these issues.

This research contains a study on mobile devices, more precisely mobile telephony applied to educational purposes. The general aim here is to investigate the absence of methodologies in degree courses, related to the use of Information Technology and Communication (ICTs), in order to incorporate the use of mobile telephony. The target is to identify relevant procedures a professor should incorporate in his/her pedagogical practices in order to face the challenges mobile technology poses for the teaching-learning process in the beginning of the 21st century. More specific objectives of this paper are the verification of the political and instructional use of the ICTs in Brazilian Education; an analysis of the pedagogical potentialities and the reflexes mobile phones currently cause in Brazilian Education; and a thorough examination of the concept of mobility, when considering the use of such technology. Whereas this paper involves several areas of knowledge, the theoretical approach has a multi-disciplinary character, since the early stages of written communication in societies and along its development. This work includes a discussion on the possibilities mobile technology provides regarding the access to information and to communication, and the challenge future professors should have concerning education. After a field research, an analysis of the uses of mobile phones and their applicability, as well as an analysis of what professors and degree students think of the use of such technology in Education were developed, allowing the discussion of the current need of new pedagogical practices when performing the teaching profession. Such field research was carried in three universities of the private sector, with the participation of professors and students of degree courses. All of them answered a questionnaire with open and closed questions, with the collection of quantitative and qualitative data. This paper includes five chapters: in the first chapter I present the research project; in the second, I discuss the influence of ICTs in Brazilian Education; in the third one I present some reflections on the question and statistical data regarding the potentialities mobile technology provides; in the fourth chapter, I discuss the concept of mobility and suggest some of the questions posed to degree professor when dealing with projects including such technology; in the last one, I present an analysis of the field research results. As a result of this work, one concludes that professors are not yet considering the possibility of using that kind of technology to support education. Such use is viable, as long as it becomes part of pedagogical projects in schools and of the curriculum. The involvement of all school community is also necessary. Additionally, educational institutions must offer conditions for professors to keep themselves updated and get ready to engage in new activities with students. This paper shows that mobile devices, like any other kind of technology, are one more possible tool to be used on a daily basis by educators. Like many other procedures and resources, the use of Information Technology and Communication will not solve, by itself, the educational problems in Brazil

Abstract:

ABSTRACT In the context of digital culture, this research investigated the uses of mobile technologies that a group of students makes in order to read novels. The research aimed to understand the ways in which mobile digital technologies in the reading practices of the genre novel may impact on the reader’s formation in the perspective of digital and literary literacy. The theoretical field was the one of cybercultural studies applied to education. The methodology used was the qualitative one, which is descriptive and analytical. The research was developed in two stages. The first one, dedicated to the characterization of the subjects, was made from a semi-structured questionnaire, and the second one, by performing collaborative meetings of field research, which focused on the investigation of literary reading practices of the participants mediated by the mobile digital technologies and they were operationalized by the participant’s observation and a semi structured group interview. The locusof this study was the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Bahia – Campus Barreiras, and the participants were 11 students from the 3rd Integrated Grade of High School Education of the Technical Course of Informatics. The research revealed that literary and digital literacy of the researched students is somewhat fluent, not by the impossibility of augumentation that comes from these technologies, but, among other factors, due to the excessive attachment to the culture of printing, the lack of a hypertextual reading posture and the somewhat productive perception regard to the uses of the net. It was also possible to conclude that, in the context of this research, the full development of a critical and immersive reader when it comes to the categories of literary and digital literacy, can only be built facing the interweaving of the subjects, the potential of mobile devices and more appropriate technical objects, such as digital readers considering an effective and conscious immersion in digital culture and cyberculture, without which the behavior of the critical and immersive reader become punctual. Agrawal, Manoj. "Metabolic engineering of Zymomonas mobilis for improved production of ethanol from lignocelluloses." Diss., Georgia Institute of Technology, 2012. http://hdl.handle.net/1853/43618.

Full text
Abstract:
Ethanol from lignocellulosic biomass is a promising alternative to rapidly depleting oil reserves. However, natural recalcitrance of lignocelluloses to biological and chemical treatments presents major engineering challenges in designing an ethanol conversion process. Current methods for pretreatment and hydrolysis of lignocelluloses generate a mixture of pentose (C5) and hexose (C6) sugars, and several microbial growth inhibitors such as acetic acid and phenolic compounds. Hence, an efficient ethanol production process requires a fermenting microorganism not only capable of converting mixed sugars to ethanol with high yield and productivity, but also having high tolerance to inhibitors. Although recombinant bacteria and yeast strains have been developed, ethanol yield and productivity from C5 sugars in the presence of inhibitors remain low and need to be further improved for a commercial ethanol production. The overarching objective of this work is to transform Zymomonas mobilis into an efficient whole-cell biocatalyst for ethanol production from lignocelluloses. Z. mobilis, a natural ethanologen, is ideal for this application but xylose (a C5 sugar) is not its 'natural' substrate. Back in 1995, researches at National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) had managed to overcome this obstacle by metabolically engineering Z. mobilis to utilize xylose. However, even after more than a decade of research, xylose fermentation by Z. mobilis is still inefficient compared to that of glucose. For example, volumetric productivity of ethanol from xylose fermentation is 3- to 4- fold lower than that from glucose fermentation. Further reduction or complete inhibition of xylose fermentation occurs under adverse conditions. Also, high concentrations of xylose do not get metabolized completely. Thus, improvement in xylose fermentation by Z. mobilis is required. In this work, xylose fermentation in a metabolically engineered Z. mobilis was markedly improved by applying the technique of adaptive mutation. The adapted strain was able to grow on 10% (w/v) xylose and rapidly ferment xylose to ethanol within 2 days and retained high ethanol yield. Similarly, in mixed glucose-xylose fermentation, the strain produced a total of 9% (w/v) ethanol from two doses of 5% glucose and 5% xylose (or a total of 10% glucose and 10% xylose). Investigation was done to identify the molecular basis for efficient biocatalysis. An altered xylitol metabolism with reduced xylitol formation, increased xylitol tolerance and higher xylose isomerase activity were found to contribute towards improvement in xylose fermentation. Lower xylitol production in adapted strain was due to a single mutation in ZMO0976 gene, which drastically lowered the reductase activity of ZMO0976 protein. ZMO0976 was characterized as a novel aldo-keto reductase capable of reducing xylose, xylulose, benzaldehyde, furfural, 5-hydroxymethyl furfural, and acetaldehyde, but not glucose or fructose. It exhibited nearly 150-times higher affinity with benzaldehyde than xylose. Knockout of ZMO0976 was found to facilitate the establishment of xylose fermentation in Z. mobilis ZM4. Equipped with molecular level understanding of the biocatalytic process and insight into Z. mobilis central carbon metabolism, further genetic engineering of Z. mobilis was undertaken to improve the fermentation of sugars and lignocellulosic hydrolysates. These efforts culminated in construction of a strain capable of fermenting glucose-xylose mixture in presence of high concentration of acetic acid and another strain with a partially operational EMP pathway.

Abstract:

Keeratipranon, Narongdech. "Robot navigation in sensor space." Queensland University of Technology, 2009. http://eprints.qut.edu.au/29316/.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis investigates the problem of robot navigation using only landmark bearings. The proposed system allows a robot to move to a ground target location specified by the sensor values observed at this ground target posi- tion. The control actions are computed based on the difference between the current landmark bearings and the target landmark bearings. No Cartesian coordinates with respect to the ground are computed by the control system. The robot navigates using solely information from the bearing sensor space. Most existing robot navigation systems require a ground frame (2D Cartesian coordinate system) in order to navigate from a ground point A to a ground point B. The commonly used sensors such as laser range scanner, sonar, infrared, and vision do not directly provide the 2D ground coordi- nates of the robot. The existing systems use the sensor measurements to localise the robot with respect to a map, a set of 2D coordinates of the objects of interest. It is more natural to navigate between the points in the sensor space corresponding to A and B without requiring the Cartesian map and the localisation process. Research on animals has revealed how insects are able to exploit very limited computational and memory resources to successfully navigate to a desired destination without computing Cartesian positions. For example, a honeybee balances the left and right optical flows to navigate in a nar- row corridor. Unlike many other ants, Cataglyphis bicolor does not secrete pheromone trails in order to find its way home but instead uses the sun as a compass to keep track of its home direction vector. The home vector can be inaccurate, so the ant also uses landmark recognition. More precisely, it takes snapshots and compass headings of some landmarks. To return home, the ant tries to line up the landmarks exactly as they were before it started wandering. This thesis introduces a navigation method based on reflex actions in sensor space. The sensor vector is made of the bearings of some landmarks, and the reflex action is a gradient descent with respect to the distance in sensor space between the current sensor vector and the target sensor vec- tor. Our theoretical analysis shows that except for some fully characterized pathological cases, any point is reachable from any other point by reflex action in the bearing sensor space provided the environment contains three landmarks and is free of obstacles. The trajectories of a robot using reflex navigation, like other image- based visual control strategies, do not correspond necessarily to the shortest paths on the ground, because the sensor error is minimized, not the moving distance on the ground. However, we show that the use of a sequence of waypoints in sensor space can address this problem. In order to identify relevant waypoints, we train a Self Organising Map (SOM) from a set of observations uniformly distributed with respect to the ground. This SOM provides a sense of location to the robot, and allows a form of path planning in sensor space. The navigation proposed system is analysed theoretically, and evaluated both in simulation and with experiments on a real robot.

In the construction industry engineers work most of the time outdoors. As a result there is a gap between the construction site and the office in both time and space. This gap increases the possibilities of data errors and subsequent rework. For those construction companies that have implemented the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)system, neither the owners, administrators, nor the suppliers may take the first opportunity to make the right decision, because of the fact that incomplete data can not be entered in the ERP system in time. Therefore, it is necessary to build a mobile data platform. This will allow the engineers to exchange data between the construction site and the ERP system by using their Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) via the Internet. This means that the gap between the construction site and the office can be eliminated, both in time and in space. In addition, the owners, administrators, as well as the suppliers can obtain correct and updated data with an integrated ERP system. This study is based on the integration of the PDA and the ERP systems which fulfills the following functions for the construction industry: Quality Inspection System, Cost Control System, Schedule Control System and Administration Management System. After downloading the ERP system data, users can collect and query this data offline. Then, they can transmit the data via Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) and personal computer synchronously to a metadata repository. After having been imported into the ERP system, the transmitted data can then generate related reports in ERP modules. Through analysis and development of the mobile system and its implementation in a construction company, this research concluded that the mobile system can decrease data processing inefficiencies caused by the reworking of data. With an integrated ERP system, the connection, real time and correctness of data will be greatly improved. With the improvement of technology, automation and mobility have become the current trends in construction management. Consequently the application of the PDA in construction management is bound to become popular. The concept of a mobile handheld computer into which one can enter data immediately will decrease data rework so that it can be shared and transmitted quick and easily.

In recent years, the gradual development of industry 4.0 cause many industries to start finding the way to develop Internet of People, so time and location would not limit working. With mobile device, each employee can receive and send information immediately, thus making human more efficient when serving as managers in the autonomous system. In these changes, a company’s way to improve ERP system is important. ERP system records many information about company. However, in the past, people are used to observe the report of ERP system on the desktop. With the development of mobile devices, ERP system should be installed on one to let people can read the report any time. RWD (Responsive Web Design) is a method to simplify the development of website. This study will use “Mobile First” the method of RWD to design the layout of ERP system on the mobile device. This study discusses how the arrangement of information on the mobile interface can make people focus on tasks. Unsuitable layouts would cause discomfort and influence the performance during completion of tasks. This study designs an experiment to find a suitable layout. The experiment of this study applied two factorial design, by employing information searching and browsing task and measuring physiological data. There are 10 participants in this experiment. The result shows users prefer grid layout and perform better in that layout in the searching task. Users prefer single row layout in the browsing task as it can make users stay at first layer and browse each content in detail. In this experiment of this study shows the result that mental load is lower when the more information is provided in the interface. This study also gets the validation of the WSPS (website preferences scale) in the reliability and validity of the performance. The result of this study could provide some principles for the interface designers in the future.

In today’s complicated and competitive business environment, companies mostly use enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems to manage various activities. ERP systems can shorten operation process time and integrate all kinds of management information which can bring a solution for companies. In recent years, due to the development of cloud computing and portable devices, a new mobility era is starting. The popularity of smartphones and tablet computers and other mobile devices, changing the behavior of mobile phone users and lifestyle, enhance the rapid development of mobile commerce. ERP companies realize the trend and they continuously develop the integrated functions of their ERP systems for compatible mobile devices. Through the integrations, ERP companies can provide more convenient services and integrated management flows. Simultaneously, users can operate and access company information through mobile devices anywhere and anytime. However, mobile ERP is still in the developing stage. Consequently, current requirements of enterprise mobility for ERP functions are mainly in sales and distribution. In this thesis, we propose a mobile ERP structure for the sales function in the SAP ERP system. We also design a mobile type sales application based on an android-based mobile device. In addition, we provide sale practitioner and supervisors a more convenient and rapider service interface in which they can quickly respond to customer's needs.

Nowadays, the enterprises are facing more and more challenges of the competitive environment. In the turbulent environment, how businesses exploit their own resources to gain competitive advantage is one of important strategic objectives of the firm. In order to gain competitive advantage by improving work efficiency, implementing an information system, by which is usually meant Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), to meet organizational operating needs, is a general strategy in large businesses. However, the high cost of commercial software and implementing ERP obstructs small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) which have less capital. For these reasons, the utilization of open source software (OSS) for planning enterprise resources could be an alternative solution to integrating internal resources in small and medium-sized enterprises. This study addresses a standard operating procedure (SOP) for use by SMEs in Enterprise Resource Planning. I introduce several available OSS ERP software packages, which are free and can be altered by the user, and combine them with the advantages of mobile commerce. In order to assess the feasibility of the SOP, this research examined a case study in which the SOP was applied to an SME, analysing progress using Balanced Scorecard combined with IS success model, and the critical success factors for m-commerce. The research shows that OSS ERP enables the firm to improve organizational performance in four dimensions of the balanced scorecard. Furthermore, the high availability of OSS ERP used in this study also establishes the validity of the SOP I propose. Accordingly, based on these findings, OSS ERP solutions for organizations seem to be a viable alternative to ERP proprietary software, especially for SMEs.

While more and more companies plan to implement asset management solutions to control supply chain costs and public sectors strive for effective and timely management of public facilities, there are significant moves coming to improve both asset management processes and the information technology (IT) that support them. In the arena of IT, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is one of the most promising technologies to improve the effectiveness of asset management. In this research we propose an RFID and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) enabled Mobile Asset Management Information System (MAMIS) that will produce real value in the form of reduced cost, staff productivity, and effective management today. The proposed system was designed for tagging valuable assets or equipment, providing asset location information, auditing and triggering for service, and retrieving maintenance requirements and procedure based on data in ERP.
