Abstract:
The aim of the dissertation is to present the issue of post-catastrophic reconstruction of and and dwellings with focus on temporary forms of housing. Given the complexity of the topic, various aspects are presented, from mobile houses, the basics of environmentalism and foreign aid through temporary post-catastrophic dwellings and constructions to assessment databases of temporary post-catastrophic constructions. Observation is focused mainly on constructions and shelters built shortly after the catastrophe. Based on the study of manuals, directives, post-catastrophic reports and analyses of constructions for emergency situations, a hypothesis was created that determines the factors for the success of mobile houses in post-catastrophic conditions. The crucial factors are: transportability, efficiency, versatility, adaptability to the place of catastrophe and development in time. The hypothesis was verified on a sample of 17 selected mobile houses and on student´s works. The contribution of this dissertation is global evaluation of the issue of post-catastrophic reconstruction from several points of view, formulation of three areas of current mobile and basic types of transitional shelters, the description of post-disaster reconstruction of land and dwellings.

Abstract:
This thesis concentrates on the UMTS cellular network and the possibilities of its monitoring. There are several methods of monitoring the UMTS. The technique used in this project is based on monitoring through a cellular terminal. The theoretical part is devoted to the description of the UMTS system and the WCDMA technique. The practical part then deals with the method of UMTS monitoring through a cellular terminal and describes in detail individual screens of the FTD (Field Test Display) program, the Netmonitor functions and their parameters. The next part of this thesis analyses the RRC messages, which were recorded during the realization of services (video calls, calls, data transfers) in the UMTS network. The last chapters of the thesis are briefly dealing with software and hardware servicing of cellular terminals. The attachment then offers two lab tasks, in which the students get acquainted with the UMTS network structure and the behaviour of the cellular terminal in this network.

It’s difficult to keep track of sleep patterns, medicine and water intake. Having sufficient sleep every day is very important as not getting enough sleep can lead to difficulties remembering things, concentrating and other problems. This application provides tools to track the sleeping pattern of the user based on the inputs given. When the user picks a date, a weekly graph is generated to see how the user’s sleep cycle looks. It also displays the average hours the user slept each day and the sleep pattern type below the graph. Medicine reminder is another tool which reduces the risk of skipping medicines. As many people tend to complicate the severity level of the disease by forgetting to take the required medicine, this app can help them to prevent such problems. It reminds them to take their medicine at the entered times until the end of the course duration. People often tend to forget to drink enough water. Staying hydrated is very important for our body to function properly and flush out toxins. For this purpose, this app features a water reminder to remind the user to drink water every hour until the daily limit is reached. This is done by calculating the amount of water that should be consumed every day based on the user’s details like age, weight, physical activity and gender. Apart from these, to stay fit and healthy one should do some physical activity every day which helps to activate their body. The instructions and videos of some exercises, information on health tips, and natural remedies to some common health problems that can be cured without any medication are provided in the app. This would be a very convenient application for those who are very busy with their work life and have difficult time tracking their sleep, medicine times and staying hydrated at work.

Abstract:
Travels in modern China are not only about displacement and exile, but are in many ways informed by a complicated sense of inadequacy and betrayal, as the desire to stay close (or return) to the fatherland is constantly frustrated and negated. This chapter argues that modern Chinese intellectuals and writers—belated but nevertheless ubiquitous and mobile travelers—are often shaped by a profound sense of psychosocial deprivation, reluctance, and loss, rather than of empowerment or recreational escape. The chapter begins with Zhang Taiyan’s short visit to Taiwan and his ensuing journey to Japan, when his project to modernize the Qing Empire failed, and traces the trajectories of several Chinese writers who followed such a critical path, such as Lu Xun, Xiao Hong, Eileen Chang, Pai Hsien-yong, Ha Jin, and Gao Xingjian.

Abstract:
AbstractFriendships can be interpreted as voluntary relationships between individuals and characterised as relatively amorphous bond. Since migration usually diversifies people’s social bonds, it can be suggested that in this context friendships have to be reconfigured. Even though friendships are important for societal integration and related to individual well-being, migration research has treated friendships as a side issue. This chapter aims to narrow this gap by answering three questions: Are there significant differences between emigrants and non-mobiles in their number of close friends? What are important factors influencing emigrants’ number of close friends abroad? How does this number develop during the first years after emigration? Based on data from the German Emigration and Remigration Panel Study and the German Socio-Economic Panel, the results show that emigrants have more friends than non-mobiles. Additionally, we find that individual characteristics and cultural distance between emigrant and host society or the intension to stay in the emigration country are significantly related to emigrants’ friendship network size. Furthermore, we find that identification with the emigration country is the most influential factor on the size of the friendship networks during the first 2 years after arrival. Our results also provide some evidence that there is an optimal size of the close-friendship-network.

Abstract:
Mobile has become a mainstream medium for news consumption on the go. To cater to the growing demand for mobile news, traditional news providers have switched from “mobile too” to “mobile first” strategies. To enhance mobile news communication, it is imperative for mobile news providers to stay abreast of mobile news consumers' changing expectations of mobile news experience in a news app. It is equally imperative to identify the gap between news consumers' expectations and what mobile news experience is embedded in a mobile news app. Using a mobile experience index, the authors of this chapter have located the venue and extent of the gap through conducting a survey of mobile news app users and a comparative analysis of indicators of mobile news experience in selected news apps.

Abstract:
As the mobile applications are constantly facing a rapid development in the recent years especially in the academic environment such as student response system (Lópeza, Royoa, Labordab, & Calvoa, 2009; Ngai & Gunasekaran, 2007; Mary & Biju, 2008; Nayak & Erinjeri, 2008; Roth, Ivanchenko, & Record, 2008; Lu, Stav, & Pein, 2009; Lu, 2009; Turning Technologies, 2010) used in universities and other educational institutions; However, an effective and scalable Database Management System to support fast and reliable data storage and retrieval is missing. This paper presents Database Management Architecture for an Innovative Evaluation System based on Mobile Learning Applications. The need for a relatively stable, independent, and extensible data model for faster data storage and retrieval is analyzed and investigated. Finally a case study to prove the concept of the urgent need for the system is proposed. It concludes that the system is important by emphasizing further investigation to support multimedia data types, such as video clips, images and documents in near future.

Abstract:
This paper introduces Buckybot, a novel mobile platform, and investigates its kinematics and preliminary control algorithms. Buckybot is a ground-based platform whose geometry is based on a truncated icosahedron, i.e. a soccer ball with flattened sides. The platform has 20 passive hexagonal faces on which it can stably rest, and 12 rounded pentagonal faces which can be extended linearly to tilt Buckybot. The symmetric geometry of the robot makes it operational in any configuration which is ideal for a variety of deployment scenarios including throwing or dropping. Buckybot currently locomotes using a semi-static tipping gait to move between adjacent hexagonal faces. In this work, we present the design and low-level control of the Buckybot platform, explore the kinematics associated with Buckybot’s method of locomotion, experimentally characterize tipping, and investigate trajectory planning for this new mobile robot. Results demonstrate effective trajectory planning accounting for plan uncertainty.
