Full textThis paper presents a formalism based on the Finite Element Method (FEM), suitable for analysis of discontinuities with axial symmetry, between any two coaxial lines, including corrugations. The method of Galerkin-Budnov follows a bi-linear integral operator, applied to the magnetic held, expanded in the whole area of the structure, coaxial-discontinuity-coaxial. The input and output ports of the structure are far from of the discontinuity, so that therein there is only the TEM mode. The magnetic held sought is obtained by MEF. The values for the return loss, and the magnetic helds at both ports were calculated and compared with those yielded by Modes Matching Technique, showing good agreement.
Bondol, Jean-Claude. "L'énonciation dans la communication médiatique : fonctionnement de l'implicite subjectif dans les discours du mode authentifiant de la télévision." Paris 8, 2006. http://octaviana.fr/document/145513807#?c=0&m=0&s=0&cv=0.
Full textThe aim of the thesis is to analyse the functioning, and in particular the implicit functioning, the linguistic and extra-linguistic forms of subjectivity that mask the practitioners of media communication, the defenders of a mythic conception of objectivity. Supported by well known theories articulated on the semantic, the pragmatic and the psychological, it seeks to construct a general and ambitious definition of television subjectivity. Thus the instruments of analyses and the concepts employed are mainly borrowed from the linguistic analyses of discourse. The analyses carried out essentially on a body of television productions of an authentic mode, is attentive to the linguistic materiality concerning which it doesn't neglect any facet, but also, following the actual tendencies of research on subjectivity, to the social and cognitive aspects. This hypothesis of an omnipresence of subjectivity in the language of television is amply verified and the thesis makes a significant contribution to the debate on journalistic deontology
Hein, Bettina. "0 + 0 = 1 : the appliance model of selling software bundled with hardware." Thesis, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 2007. http://hdl.handle.net/1721.1/39504.
Full textIncludes bibliographical references (leaves 95-103).
The business model of selling software bundled with hardware is called the appliance model. As hardware becomes less and less expensive and open source software is being offered for free, the traditional business model of selling packaged software is being threatened. This disruption in the software industry is forcing software vendors to consider other business models such as advertising-based, transaction-based, software-as-a-service or appliance-based models in order to create additional value for customers. Most of these models have existed in variants for decades but are now gaining in popularity due to factors such as changing cost structures or the Internet as a delivery channel. This thesis analyzes the economic drivers and barriers for the appliance model for both the consumer and enterprise software industry segments. Important drivers of the appliance model for both of these sectors are hardware commoditization, open source software and vertical integration in order to capture margins. In the enterprise software segment the complexity of traditional software integration and operation including unpredictability of total cost of ownership, rising IT personnel cost and maintenance fees are driving the adoption of the appliance model.
(cont.) In the consumer software segment, ease of use, limited battery life, disintermediated distribution and prestige are important economic factors. The appliance model also has a number of economic disadvantages that hinder its adoption. Among these are the additional competencies that a company needs to build, supply chain and distribution costs, as well as inflexibility and inconvenience for the customer. Decision criteria for companies considering adopting the appliance model are also discussed. Industry examples in the consumer and enterprise software segment are examined and specific companies are used as case studies. Among these are the digital music player, digital video recorder, router and enterprise search markets. The possible implementation paths for software companies transitioning to the appliance model are proposed and the virtual appliance model as a next adoption step is discussed.

Full textLiving with HIV is a particular situation in which external constraints such as treatment, secrecy around HIV status, and systematic use of condom on one side, and representations combining HIV and sexuality on a specific way, on the other side, are mixed. We studied the subjective experience of sexuality among HIV positive young adults, investigating the impact of gender and mode of contamination on representations of sexuality. 21 semi structured interviews concerning young adults of the two genders contaminated by mother to child transmission or by sexual transmission, aged 18 to 25 years and living in France, were collected. Three way of analyse were used: case study, thematic analysis, and typology. Inside the research group, depending on the contamination mode and the gender of the subject, we noticed different life experiences with the HIV virus leading to different sexuality experiences. For those subjects that were infected by sexual intercourse, we noticed three types of experience. For subjects infected by mother to child transmission, the experience of sexuality was quite similar. We showed how secrecy around seropositivity or its disclosure to the sexual partner are organizing sexual activity (sexual abstinence, casual relationships, long term/lasting relationships) and sexual experience. We also analysed how the systematic use of the condom could became a sign of the disease likely to lead to unprotected sexual relations. For all subjects, we observed how representation combining HIV with death and transgressive sexuality is crucial within their experience of sexuality

Full textIn engineering design, we try to find better solutions that satisfy many design requirements. Once the designs have been found, we choose preferable one. Engineering design is the mixed procedure of design exploration and decision making. This study proposes the effective solution for each engineering process: (1) a novel optimization algorithm to rapidly derive better designs, and (2) "design mode analysis" which enables us to extract representative design patterns from the huge number of design examples. Effectiveness of the proposed method were verified in real-world problems.

Full textThis work deals with time domain characterization of microwave power transistors, in continuous and pulsed modes. A setup has been created with a Non Linear Network Analyser. An absolute calibration method has been verified, this method does not require a phase standart. Then our setup has been improved with pulsed modes, without dynamical losses, even for high duty cycles up to 0. 01%. Burst of pulses and pulse profiling measurements are made possible. In the last part, we perform time domain waveform measurements of high power transistors showing the high power handling capability of this bench, especialy for AlGaN/GaN HEMT. This bench has proven its is efficiency for separate trapping and thermal effects characterization with several approaches

Full textThe work reported in this thesis deals with the experimental and numerical analysis of the birefringence, the chromatic dispersion and the extinction wavelength of the second mode (λc) of air-silica microstructured optical fibres (MOFs). The birefringence and the chromatic dispersion measurements are investigated in MOFs fabricated in our laboratory or by a partner from the industry (Alcatel). Different experimental setups are adapted for operating with MOFs. Experimental results are compared to simulations based on the finite element method. The very high measured birefringence of small core MOFs is attributed to the micro or nano imperfections of the structure. The large influence of the geometry of the fibre on the chromatic dispersion is also pointed out. Finally, for the first time to our knowledge, we apply to MOFs an azimuthal analysis far field analysis technique for precisely determining λc

Full textIt is admitted today that wide band-gap materials will make it possible to push back the borders reached to date in the field of RF power generation. The analysis of the properties of wide band-gap materials, and especially the GaN material, highlights that it is a serious candidate for telecommunication and radar applications. RF field effect transistors on GaN are prone to show dispersive behaviors due to heating and trapping effects. A non linear electrothermal model of these high frequency FETs transistors on GaN used in this work makes possible the analysis of dispersive behaviors due to heating and trapping effects. A comparison of performances in terms of output power, power added efficiency and linearity has been made between simulation and measurement results for two type of excitation: one tone pulsed signal and two tones pulsed signal. The use of a one tone pulsed excitation permitted the validation of an HBT electrothermal model and the expertise of different technological process of these transistors. The use of a two tone pulsed excitation has permitted to observe the trade-offs between power added efficiency and linearity versus trapping effects. The measurements carried out on an original configuration of the load pull set up for intermodulation measurements under pulsed conditions had shown the actual limitations of the transistor model

Recent technical improvements in the manufacturing of new dielectric materials allowed them to be introduced into new applications. Thus, a new electromagnetic simulation tool, using the Method of Lines, is described in the first chapter in order to characterize resonant structures. In the chapters 3 and 4, two applications of dielectric resonators using Bragg effect in two different topologies has been presented. In a fifth chapter, a program in C++ for automatic data acquisition by GPIB has been presented. The sixth chapter is devoted to a spherical dielectric resonator using whispering galerie mode to be used as a filter and to participate for a Michelson-Morley experiment (Test of Fundamental Physics). The seventh chapter is dedicated to a stability measurement of a dual mode oscillator at room temperature

Full textHigh efficiency performances of microwave power amplifiers are reached by implementing proper matching conditions at harmonic components. Harmonic tuned amplifiers offer for the moment the best energy conversion efficiency between DC supply and RF power at fundamental frequency available in a 50 Ω load. In addition to proper harmonic terminations, the minimization of power losses at fundamental frequency in the output RF matching and power combining circuit is of prime importance. This has been widely reported over the past few years. Considering this main aspect GaN technology offers an evident advantage due to its high drain voltage operation capability that is beneficial for designing low loss and wideband output matching circuits. Several works have been reported during the past few years. This work examines power added efficiency improvements by implementing an appropriate gate source voltage waveform shaping of power cells. Analytical calculations, circuit simulations using a nonlinear model of a 15W GaN HEMT and a two stage power amplifier design have been achieved. The power stage operates at high drain bias voltage under class F conditions while the driver stage operates at low drain bias voltage under inverse class F conditions to drive the input of power stage by an appropriate gate source voltage waveform shape. Very good power added efficiency have been reached over a wide frequency bandwidth. This work addresses the amplification of constant envelope signals that do not require any stringent specification in terms of linearity

Full textIn spectroscopy, as well as in many futuristic applications in biophotonics, the managing of time delays between different wavelengths interacting via the non-linearity may open a route towards new applications. In this manuscript the way to equalize and control group velocity of different wavelenghts is studied. The nonlinear control is related with the knowledge of self-sustained optical waveform called solitons. In crystals, new types of nonlinear solitonic and simultonic propagations by means of sumfrequency generation is studied. This unusual dynamics of propagation allows group velocity compensation between all the interacting waves

Full textThe aim of this work was to study the interactions between microwaves, applied under conditions slightly thermal (37, 50 and 60ʿC) to the frequency of 2,45 GHz with the bacteria Escherichia coli, and to study the possibility to use this technique for decontamination of thermosensitive products. Various protocols and various exposure conditions were tested, and the carried out investigations showed that the microwaves applied in discontinuous mode under conditions slightly thermal induce membrane integrity modification of the bacteria E coli. This work shows the need for combining experimental dosimetry and numerical dosimetry for the interactions between the biological systems and microwaves studies, since the results of the thermal characterization of the suspension seemed to allot the effects obtained for a non thermal effect of microwaves, whereas the numerical simulation allowed us to detect the presence of "hot spots" within the exposed bacterial suspension. For process, this work shows that the use of the discontinuous microwaves under conditions slightly thermal does not seem possible as such, although exposure times used are shorter than those used in traditional heating process

Full textDEMETER (Detection of Electro-Magnetic Emissions Transmitted from Earthquakes Regions) is the first microsatellite developed by the CNES (Centre National d’Etudes Spatiales). Its objective is to study the disturbances of the ionosphere associated with the seismic or volcanic activities. The satellite has very sensitive probes which have to measure the fluctuations of the terrestrial magnetic field. For a normal operation of the satellite, it is important that the electromagnetic noise generated by the structure itself and in particular by the solar panels is sufficiently weak not to disturb measurements of the probes. The work presented in this thesis falls under the contribution to the study of low frequency parasitic radiations of solar panels in the near field. The topological analysis of the distribution of the currents of common mode and differential mode through the various ways of wiring of the solar cells allows the construction of a network of equivalent electric dipoles of the system and the calculation of the electromagnetic field radiated in a given point of its environment by vectorial summation of all dipolar contributions

Full textThe conservation of the weak vector current, known as CVC is one of the fundamentalhypothesis of the Standard Model of the electroweak interaction. Nevertheless, the physics background of this hypothesis is nothing more than an analogyto the electromagnetic interaction's theory and the question of its validity remainsopen. The CVC is veri_able in the superallowed Fermi β-decays, 0+ → 0+, T = 1since it predicts that the Ft (≡ corrected ft) value of such low-energy processesmust be nucleus independent. Once the unique Ft value is found, one can immediatelydeduce the vector coupling constant GV , linked to │Vud, the norm of themost important element of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) quark-mixingmatrix. This matrix element plays a crucial role in the test of the unitarity of theCKM matrix, another fundamental hypothesis of the Standard Model.Currently, 14 superallowed transitions ranging from 10C to 74Rb are known experimentally with the precision 0.1% or better. This results in a fact that this studyis now limited by the theoretical corrections, due to the radiative and the isospin symmetry-breaking effects. The aim of this thesis is to re-examine the correction due to mismatch between proton and neutron radial wave functions (ᵟRO) within the framework of shell model. We adopted the method recently developed by Towner and Hardy [1]. This method combines realistic radial wave functions with spectroscopic informations obtained from a large-scale shell-model calculation, thus allowing us to go beyond traditional shell-model approaches. In this work, we considered 13 superallowed transitions, including : 22Mg, 26Al, 26Si, 30S, 34Cl, 34Ar, 38K, 38Ca, 46V, 50Mn, 54Co, 62Ga et 66As. The radial wave functions were determined with a realistic single-particle potential, such as the phenomenological Woods-Saxon (WS) potential or the self-consistent Hartree-Fock (HF) mean field derived from an effective Skyrme force. We selected various parametrizations (2 parametrizations for WS and 3 Skyrme forces for HF) that seem to us to be appropriate for our purposes. First, we performed the calculations with a simple method, without taking into account the intermediate states. The result indicates that ᵟRO obtained from WS potential is strongly parametrization dependent. In order to clarify this effect, we studied profoundly the sensitivity to potential parameters, paying particular attention to the isovector and the Coulomb terms. This study provided evidence that such a dependence is entirely dominated by the isovector part of the potential. However, using our proposed adjustment procedure, this problem appears to be well under control. We also examined the surface terms adopted in the work of Towner and Hardy [1], the result showed that one of these terms (the term Vh(r)) is not compatible with our adjustment procedure. (...)

Q-switching short laser cavities associated with these components produces pulses in the nanosecond regime. These deformable micro-mirrors reached modulation frequencies upper than one megahertz, giving access to mode-locking in fibre laser sources. This new fibre laser system showed MOEMS capability to replace more famous modulators, as acousto-optic or electro-optic ones. Full textThis research work was done in order to use high-Q dielectric resonators for the characterization of semi-insulating materials and to build an ultra-low phase noise oscillator cooled at 77 Kelvin. The first chapter introduces the whispering gallery modes which are the heart of the work presented in this thesis. The second chapter presents a new method for the characterization of semi-insulating materials by using the whispering gallery modes. Measurements were made on gallium phosphide, gallium arsenide and silicon carbide 4H. Under light and at cryogenic temperatures, microwave properties of the samples change because of photoelectric effect. In the last and third chapter, we describe an ultra-low phase noise oscillator at 11GHz and cooled at 77 Kelvin. The ultralow phase noise oscillator is based on a double sapphire resonator. The whispering gallery modes are in the key element of this project. Phase noise measurement gives - 115dBc/Hz at 1 kHz of the carrier

Full textBeta decays are a fantastic tool to study the weak interaction described by theStandard Model. This model and the physics beyond can be tested by precisemeasurements of nuclear β decays. Among these tests, the conserved vector current (CVC)hypothesis and the unitarity of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) quark-mixing matrixare of great interest. For these, the parameters of β transitions must be precisely determined. The highest precisions have been obtained with superallowed 0+ → 0+ Fermi β decays. However, there are other possibilities to make these tests, for example mirror β decays. Fornow, they do not allow to achieve the precision of the 0+ → 0+ transitions. To improve this, new accurate measurements of experimental parameters characterizing these transitions, such as the half-life and the branching ratio, are needed. For this purpose, an experimenthas been carried out at the University of Jyväskylä to study the mirror β decays of 23Mg and27Si and to measure these parameters. The half-life values obtained for these two nuclei are, respectively, ten times and seven times more precise than the literature averages.

Full textThis thesis begins with a rigorous mathematical analysis of the radiative heating of a semi-transparent body made of glass, by a black radiative source surrounding it. This requires the study of the coupling between quasi-steady radiative transfer boundary value problems with nonhomogeneous reflectivity boundary conditions (one for each wavelength band in the semi-transparent electromagnetic spectrum of the glass) and a nonlinear heat conduction evolution equation with a nonlinear Robin boundary condition which takes into account those wavelengths for which the glass behaves like an opaque body. We prove existence and uniqueness of the solution, and give also uniform bounds on the solution i.e. on the absolute temperature distribution inside the body and on the radiative intensities. Now, we consider the temperature $T_{S}$ of the black radiative source S surrounding the semi-transparent body $\Omega$ as the control variable. We adjust the absolute temperature distribution (x, t) 7! T(x, t) inside the semi-transparent body near a desired temperature distribution Td(·, ·) during the time interval of radiative heating ]0, tf [ by acting on $T_{S}$. In this respect, we introduce the appropriate cost functional and the set of admissible controls $T_{S}$, for which we prove the existence of optimal controls. Introducing the State Space and the State Equation, a first order necessary condition for a control $T_{S}$ : t 7! $T_{S}$ (t) to be optimal is then derived in the form of a Variational Inequality by using the Implicit Function Theorem and the adjoint problem. We come now to the goal problem which is the deformation of the semi-transparent body $\Omega$ by heating it with a black radiative source surrounding it. We introduce a weak mixed formulation of this thermoviscoelasticity problem and study the existence and uniqueness of its solution, the novelty here with respect to the work of M.E. Rognes et R. Winther (M3AS, 2010) being the apparition of the viscosity in some of the coefficients of the constitutive equation, viscosity which depends on the absolute temperature T(x, t) and thus in particular on the time t. Finally, we state in this setting the related optimal control problem of the deformation of the semi-transparent body $\Omega$, by acting on the absolute temperature of the black radiative source surrounding it. We prove the existence of an optimal control and we compute the Fréchet derivative of the associated reduced cost functional

In the Poincar''e gauge theory of gravity only two modes with well behaved dynamics have been found. They are effectively scalar modes, carrying spin-0+and spin-0-. We have investigated the dynamics of these modes in some cosmological models. The effects these two dynamic scalar torsion could account for the presently accelerating universe. We had examined via numerical simulation the late time asymptotic regime of the dynamical evolution (approximately corresponding to our current Universe); in that case it turns out that the two dynamic torsion modes decouple, and the acceleration of the Universe is determined only by the spin-0+ mode. Now a more general ansatz in the framework of BHN PG model has been proposed. Rather than use a FLRW representation we have used a manifestly homogeneous Bianchi representation. The effective Lagrangian and Hamiltonian form of the dynamic equations for this model has been found for the isotropic Bianchi class A (type I, IX) and class B (type V) cosmologies. The role of the material spin density in torsion cosmology has been reconsidered, we argue that that the spin density does not directly drive the dynamic scalar modes.

This study employs the GM(0,N) weighting model of the grey system theory to design a forward converter. Past researches on DC-DC switching power converters have mostly focused on improving conversion efficiency. There has been, however, no investigation of the weighting of related parameters of the converter. The purpose of the present research investigates three related affecting factors including maximum duty cycle, switching frequency and boundary output current. The converters with input 155 V and output 12 V/6.67 A are empirically made based on eight engineer-specification parameters. The related data is subject to GM(0,N) model analysis. The result of analysis demonstrates the affecting weight of the three affecting factors on efficiency.

Abstract Since 1996 the government opened up to the setting up of new banks without developing suitable supporting measures, resulting in too many domestic financial institutions, relatively small market size, oversupply, vicious competition, inability to face international competition, rising of banks’ Non-Performing Loans Ratio, and other negative factors that were adverse to the development of the financial industry gradually emerged. Thus since 2001 the government launched a financial reform by submitting the amendment of the “Banking Act” and the “Financial Institutions Merger Act” and also other acts, allowing the founding of 14 finance holding companies (the government later launched the Second and the Third Financial Reform at year 2004 and 2008, so far there are 16 finance holding companies). In hoping to provide clients from subsidiaries of financial holding companies with financial assets such as insurances, securities, bonds, and credit cards on same marketing channels, through consolidating domestic financial institutions and differentiating form traditional financial industry. The implementing of such cross-marketing can raise service synergy and can further reduce selling and administrative costs. By providing clients an over-all financial service, we can break the limit of the divergence of traditional financial industry, and strengthen the competitiveness of domestic financial industry in the liberalization trend of international financial market. Today, have finance holding companies in Taiwan accomplished the goal of converging financial institutes for greater scale to raise the competiveness, for internationalization, to provide clients an over-all financial service? Whether the rest of the banks or local financial institutes that have not transformed into finance holding companies will not be able to survive? And whether they will be merged or eliminated by market rules? Therefore, the main purpose of this paper is to select the most prominent and comprehensive non-financial institution and point out the impact factors that help improving the performance of this non-financial institute, by processing data and opinions from financial workers with the quantitative study in the grey system theory. Taking financial workers from Chang Hwa Bank in Chang-Hwa area as the basis for verification, and through calculation and analysis of specific data with the help of Matlab toolbox, we decide the sequence of the priority factors base on the qualitative module of the grey system theory. We hope the results can be taken as the reference for non-financial institutes’ managements in making decisions, and can share its value and contribution. Key words: financial reform, finance holding company, impact factors, grey system theory, Matlab tool box.

Taiwan’s agriculture has been renown globally. Taiwan has boasted of a variety of world-class agricultural species. This success is due partly to experts’ constant improvement and partly due to the communicative and advisory role grassroots farmers associations play. Most important of all, there are quite a lot of diligent and high-class farmers, who commit themselves to agriculture. It is a pity, however, a majority of them cannot obtain reasonable profit. They are indeed, a disadvantaged group. There are a plethora pf agricultural products. Pickled-cabbage, or Chinese sauerkraut, can be regarded as representative of pickled foods. Pickled cabbage, though not a staple food, plays an important role in cooking. It is commonly added to dishes to make them more palatable. Dishes containing pickled cabbage are frequently found on the dinner table in Taiwan. The present study based its data analysis on Sinsiou Grassroots Farmers Associations, Hualian County, which has over the past few years proactively provided planting and pickling technology to farmers. This study implemented grey weighting analysis to investigate affecting factors of the picked-cabbage price on the market. The present study aimed to induct and analyze how to effectively enhance the competitive cutting edge of the Sinsiou district pickled cabbage market. It is hoped that pickled cabbage can become a value-added agricultural food

We are investigating the dynamics of a new Poincaré gauge theory of gravity model, the BHN PG model which has cross coupling between the spin-0^+ and spin-0^- modes, in a situation which is simple, non-trivial, and yet may give physically interesting results that might be observable. To this end we here consider a very appropriate situation—homogeneous-isotropic cosmologies—which is relatively simple, and yet all the modes have non-trivial dynamics which reveals physically interesting and possibly observable results. More specifically we consider manifestly isotropic Bianchi class A cosmologies; for this case we find an effective Lagrangian and Hamiltonian for the dynamical system. The Lagrange equations for these models lead to a set of first order equations that are compatible with those found for the FLRW models and provide a foundation for further investigations. The constant curvature case is investigated. The first order equations are linearized and the normal modes are found. These turn out to control the asymptotic late time cosmological normal modes. Numerical evolution confirms the late time asymptotic approximation and shows the expected effects of the cross parity pseudoscalar coupling.

Constructing TOYOTA Initial Quality Management Model of Vehicle ---A Case Study of CORONA PREMIO 1.6 & 2.0 of KUOZUI Student:Ching-Cherng Shih Advisor:Dr.Chi-Kuang Chen Institute of Industrial Engineering And Management Yuan-Ze University Abstract The objective of this study is to construct TOYOTA initial quality management model. Vehicle initial quality study by J.D. Power has become a major influential factor in the new car market share. Even car manufacturers are very concern about the results of this survey; however, no scientific study in regard to this topic has been found so far. In this study, we intend to construct a systematic self-improvement model which focuses on the cause-tracing. The proposed model incorporates not only the suppliers but also the dealers. In order to examine the validity of the proposed model, we conduct an empirical analysis by using CORONA PREMIO as subject. The result show that the initial quality of this car surveyed by J.D. Power in 2000 does improved about 5%, comparing to 1999. It indicates that the dissatisfied points decrease from 249.8 to 237.6.
