While online-only programs are increasingly common, many universities today offer dual mode programs with both online and on campus cohorts undertaking the same program at the same time. This results in students having a range of experiences along a continuum from fully online study to a mix of online and face-to-face study. This research aimed to develop an understanding of preferences, expectations, and experiences of students enrolled in a dual mode postgraduate coursework program in Australia. Outcomes are presented in themes along with rich description and explanation that capture different facets of recurring singular ideas delineating the experiences of students in relation to their learning in a flexible dual mode. The research findings provide insight into the student experience of online study as well as the broader experience of study in a dual mode cohort.

The chapter examines the way the Cold War has been historicized in the mode of films like Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Bridge of Spies but also how in other texts it has increasingly been filtered through the lens of nostalgic pop-culture referents. The locations are not simply backdrops but active signifiers, the characters less archetypes than reassembled studies in cinematic RPGs, the soundtracks no longer sombre diegesis but more a mix-tape of your favorite hit songs. This chapter, therefore, argues that, over the course of the 2010s, from Tinker Tailor to Atomic Blonde, art as the unconscious face of politics has never been more important. Reminiscence has thus shifted from a mode of nimble historical furnishings to one that contains a jumble of ideological contradictions designed to accentuate–and critique–the reassembled Cold War mentality of the Trump-Putin age.

In this article, we analyze the design factors of community systems in two real-world professional communities — a learning network and an expert network — that employ a mix of communication modes, that is, face-to-face communication and computer-mediated communication. Our objectives are to determine which design factors influence community activity and therefore community output. We furthermore intend to make recommendations to improve the design of community systems that support professional communities using a mix of communication modes. Our study is exploratory and based on action research given the lack of studies on the design of community-supporting systems in professional communities that employ a mix of communication modes. To illustrate similarities and to enhance the generalizability of our findings, we analyzed two real-world professional communities in-depth, namely, a learning network and an interorganizational expert network. Our study shows that face-to-face communication is the primary mode of communication in these communities; the community systems that they employ only have a supporting function. This leads us to a few design guidelines for the systems that support such communities. Generally, community systems have to support professional communities’ work processes and relationship development. Important functions for work-process support are those that support face-to-face meetings (for the preparation and wrap-up of meetings) and that explicitly support specific work processes. The World Health Organization classification of psychotropic drugs is unsatisfactory. It employs the so-called ATC (Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical) approach. It has allowed a mix of terminology which recognizes treatment indication, drug chemistry, or pharmacology. An international consortium has now developed the neuroscience-based nomenclature (NbN), which is a multi-dimensional system for classifying psychotropic drugs. It emphasizes their pharmacological profile and, as far as possible, mode of action. The NbN provides a contemporary framework for better informed treatment decisions in the form of a downloadable app. The current ideal is for prescribers to match the symptom profile of the patient to a specific and appropriate psychotropic. At present, this is often mediated by a conventional disease-based naming. NbN, as a pharmacologically driven nomenclature, could be adapted to more complicated multi-axial descriptions of symptom dimensions.

In this paper, with a demand of smart devices from a fresh-mix drink company, service agents are used for modeling and a basic comparison model is proposed for the negotiation between service providers to vote for the service provider that best suits the consumer’s demand. A simulation platform that originates from cloud manufacturing is used to simulate the drink ordering, provider negotiation and provider recommendation. Simulation results show that consumers can obtain expected drinks after the negotiations and votes made by providers. Moreover, the system can recommend drinks with different freshness depending on the expiration parameter set by the company.

Abstract:
The introduction examines processes by which nineteenth-century black women writers have been disassociated from legitimate forms of black struggle and defiance. Extending a definition of the liberal problematic, and situating liberal ideology critique as a viable mode of resistance, the introductory chapter specifies methodology and content. It also addresses the ways in which Harriet Wilson, Elizabeth Keckly, and Anna Julia Cooper undermine fundamental liberal and Enlightenment precepts including reason, individualism, and the foregrounding of a transcendental subject. Each of these mix-raced, working, widowed women relies on distinct tropes of embodiment in their writing to contest reigning prescriptions toward objectivity, while making visible the constraints of practices of inclusion. Charting a “becoming together” of earlier thinkers with contemporary African-American art in the vein of Sherley Anne Williams’ novel Dessa Rose, the introduction to Resistance Reimagined offers rich insight into literary perspectives of liberalism.

Abstract:
This chapter explores the interactions of plants and animals with their immediate sedimentary environment. Plants and animals fundamentally change the physical and chemical characteristics of their sedimentary environment. The changes they effect are dependent on their size, living position, feeding mode and mobility. The types of changes are discussed as well as the resultant ability of plants and animals to actually create seafloor habitats and contribute to sediment heterogeneity at both small and large scales. Seafloor habitats are therefore best defined by a mix of physical and biology rather than physical descriptors alone. But the differences between how different animals feed and move and their ability to create structures such as tubes and burrows that influence the flows of oxygen and porewater within the sediments and across the sediment–water interface mean that there are not only a variety of vegetated seafloor habitats but a variety of non-vegetated ones.
