Abstract:
In this paper we present a simulation of an acyclic n×n DR-Mesh on an n×n LR-Mesh. The simulation is efficient in regards to size since both models use the same number of processors. The worst execution time for this simulation is O(n2) time, but we demonstrate that its average execution time is O( log n). The fastest existing simulation takes O( log n) time, but it uses an extremely large number of processors. On the other hand, the most efficient simulation in terms of size takes O( log 2n) time with O(n4/ log 2n) processors. Both of the existing simulations are for the unrestricted DR-Mesh.

Abstract Many philosophical accounts of scientific models fail to distinguish between a simulation model and other forms of models. This failure is unfortunate because there are important differences pertaining to their methodology and epistemology that favor their philosophical understanding. The core claim presented here is that simulation models are rich and complex units of analysis in their own right, that they depart from known forms of scientific models in significant ways, and that a proper understanding of the type of model simulations are fundamental for their philosophical assessmen

Working at and above head height with a power tool represents a common activity in craft and assembly applications. To assist and protect the user from overload and injuries in these situations, the development and use of application-specific support systems, such as exoskeletons and power tools, have greatly increased in recent years. Thus, the integration of aspects of the user-centered product development of support systems in the early phases of product development process has high potentials. A common approach to integrate the user early in the product development process is the use of mu

A case of thin, warm marine-boundary-layer (MBL) clouds is simulated by a cloud-system resolving model (CSRM) and is compared to the same case of clouds simulated by a general circulation model (GCM). In this study, the simulation by the CSRM adopts higher resolutions which are generally used in large-eddy simulations (LES) and more advanced microphysics as compared to those by the GCM, enabling the CSRM-simulation to act as a benchmark to assess the simulation by the GCM. There is a large number of tools for the simulation of traffic and routes in public transport systems. These use different simulation models (macroscopic, microscopic, and mesoscopic). Unfortunately, these simulation tools are limited when simulating a complete public transport system, which includes all its buses and routes (up to 270 for the London Underground). The processing times for these type of simulations increase in an unmanageable way since all the relevant variables that are required to simulate consistently and reliably the system behavior must be included. We have studied the cosmic microwave background radiation by simulating the cosmic string network induced anisotropies on the sky. The large-angular size simulations are based on the Kaiser–Stebbins effect calculated from full cosmic-string network simulation. The small-angular size simulations are done by Monte-Carlo simulation of perturbations from a time-discretized toy model. We use these results to find the normalization of μ, the string mass per unit length, and compare this result with one needed for large-scale structure formation. We show that the cosmic string scenario is in good agr

Abstract We present a new coarse grained method for the simulation of duplex DNA. The algorithm uses a generalized multi-harmonic model that can represent any multi-normal distribution of helical parameters, thus avoiding caveats of current mesoscopic models for DNA simulation and representing a breakthrough in the field. The method has been parameterized from accurate parmbsc1 atomistic molecular dynamics simulations of all unique tetranucleotide sequences of DNA embedded in long duplexes and takes advantage of the correlation between helical states and backbone configurations to derive atomi

The article presents the application of simulation methods for topological models to analyze and design information systems. By using UML extensions and the UAL language it is possible not only to build a topological model for software, but also to perform efficient simulations of topological models. Additionally, it is possible to take into account the restrictive conditions stored in UAL and OCL languages. To execute the simulation the authors used an simulator from IBM. These concepts and methods are illustrated by examples.

Cellular automata-based models have traditionally employed regular grids to represent the geographical environment when simulating urban growth or land use change. Over the last two decades, the scientific community has introduced the use of other spatial structures in an attempt to represent the processes simulated by these models more realistically. Cadastre parcels are a good choice when simulating urban growth at local scales, where pixels or regular cells do not represent the geographic space properly. Furthermore, the implementation and calibration of key factors such as accessibility an

The crucial element of the theoretical part of the paper is the factual basis for automated logistic systems whose purpose is their practical use, the process of creation or classification. An important part of this section is simulation and their models, especially discrete. Realization of simulations was not possible without software tool named Technomatix plant simulation. The practical part is then focused on building a functional model suitable for experimentatio
