Abstract:
U radu su prikazani rezultati istraživanja relacija shvatanja o ljudskoj prirodi i radu i preferencije stila rukovođenja, izvršenog na prigodnom uzorku od 288 zaposlenih – 217 izvršilaca i 71 rukovodilaca, u više preduzeća različite veličine i vlasničke strukture. Shvatanja o ljudskoj prirodi i radu, posmatrana kroz model Steersa i Portera (Steers & Porter, 1987) merena su prilagođenom skalom na bazi ovog modela. Stil rukovođenja je posmatran kroz dve dimenzije: autokratsko – demokratsko i orijentacija ka ljudima – orijentacija ka zadacima, a meren upitnikom za menadžere STIL–RUK neznatno modifikovanim za potrebe ovog istraživanja. Multipla regresiona analiza pokazala je da su shvatanja o čoveku kao društvenom biću i čoveku kao stvaralačkom biću prediktori preferencije demokratskog rukovođenja i orijentacije ka ljudima, dok shvatanje o čoveku kao racionalno-ekonomskom biću nije značajan prediktor preferencije određenog stila rukovođenja. Rezultati pokazuju i da žene više biraju demokratski stil rukovođenja, a rukovodioci orijentaciju na zadatke. Godine starosti i radnog staža nisu u korelaciji sa preferiranim stilom rukovođenja. Iz rezultata proističe zaključak da naši zaposleni koji imaju uverenje o ljudima i prirodi rada u skladu sa tradicionalnom školom, ne preferiraju odgovarajući praktičan pristup rukovođenju, kao što se moglo i očekivati. Rezultati su u skladu sa nalazima ranijih istraživanja, budući da su se dve od tri vrste posmatranih shvatanja o ljudskoj prirodi pokazale samo kao korelati stila rukovođenja.

Abstract:
This article investigates the influence of four causal frequency-dependent (FD) soil models and their impact on the responses of a multiphase overhead transmission line (OHTL) with ground wires, generated by a lightning strike. The FD models proposed by Longmire-Smith (LS), Messier (M), Portela (P) and Alípio-Visacro (AV) are considered. The ground-return impedance and admittance matrices are computed with the Nagakawa approach for both frequency-constant and FD soil models. The frequency-domain modal voltages and time-domain transient voltages are assessed in this work. Modal decomposition technique is used to study the attenuation constant, propagation velocity and voltages for each propagation mode. Simulations are carried out in a frequency range of 100 Hz to 10 MHz, for OHTLs with lengths of 1 and 10 km, on soils of 700 and 4000 Ω·m. Simulation results demonstrated that the Portela (P) model has resulted in more significant variation in the ground-return impedance and admittance, constant attenuation and propagation velocity in which a pronounced variation, especially at the high frequencies, is seen. On the other hand, Longmire-Smith (LS) and Messier (M) have produced similar results in both frequency and time domains. Additionally, the Alípio-Visacro (AV) model has produced intermediate responses, being the model recommended by CIGRÈ WG C4.33. Time-domain induced voltage waveforms obtained with the Portela (P) model has shown pronounced differences, especially at the peak values, for the high-resistive soil. This study demonstrates the importance of considering the FD soil models to assess the transient responses adequately, especially when OHTLs are on high-resistive soils.

The main goal of the thesis is an analysis of contemporary unpleasant situation in the hop growing area and verification, that foundation of a hop cluster may help hop growers simplify their business and increase their profitability. For the analysis of the mentioned area I have used Porter's diamond model. In the thesis there are described elementary principles of cluster working, its geographic definition set by its membership and even a SWOT analysis, focused especially on benefits of cluster hop growers benefits. In the conclusion I have outlined the possible ways of cluster financing from private and public sources.

Abstract:
The aim of this diploma thesis is to carry out external and internal analysis of the firm according to selected analytic methods mentioned below. The fractional aim of this thesis is to find out what the preferences of customers are like in present times, when, in order with the needs of the firm, and concurrently with respect to the main aim of this diploma thesis, the research question was defined. On the basis of results of the questionnaire survey, I am able to answer this question. The diploma thesis is divided into two parts, theoretical-methodological part and application part. The theoretical-methodological part is dedicated to the basic concepts of strategic management, and it also represents characteristics of selected methods of strategic analysis and questionnaire survey. In the application part, there are applied theoretical findings, and there is also represented the analysis of external and internal surrounding of the firm. From the analyzes of external surrounding, there were used PEST, the method 4C, analysis of the sector and competitive environment, questionnaire survey and value curve. In order to research the internal environment of the firm, there was used the analysis of internal sources. Results of particular analyzes were summarized in the SWOT analysis, which serves as a background for particular strategic recommendations of the firm. On the basis of the results of the questionnaire survey and value curve, there was established recommendation what direction the optics should take, and how the company should improve the sales of products and services. Other applied methods were the interview and the analysis of documents. Further off, there were applied mathematic-statistic methods, most of all absolute and relative frequency, cross analyzes, median. All collected information and results of the survey were used for processing of the theme of this diploma thesis. I do not have many comments after evaluation of results of the survey and SWOT analysis. But I would still suggest several minor adjustments or changes. Particular recommendation and suggestion of possible changes may contribute to the successful achievement of targets established by the firm, so it would be possible to keep steady clientele, which could be eventually extended. Outputs of the analysis and final recommendation are fully applicable during decision-making carried by the optics management.

The aim of the final thesis was implementation of strategic analysis of dental orthodontia laboratory. The final thesis should help to laboratory during the process of transformation to social entrepreneurship. Strategic analysis pursues macroeconomic and microeconomic environment that influence enterprise in profitable and nonprofit surroundings. In case that laboratory will execute all statutory claims, transformation could be done in january 2011. Results of the analysis proved very good strategic position of laboratory between competition. High quality of the products was the main reason. I determined two strategic aims for laboratory as social entrepreneurship. The one of them deal with the employing of the handicapped or disadvantaged people in the labour market. The second one focus on the sustenance of the contemporary high quality. I divided these aims to the six tactical goals.

This chapter explores how the modernist fiction of Katherine Anne Porter and Ernest Hemingway articulated a link between good writing and expansive personal experience, especially in their works set in Latin America. I begin by reconstructing their development of the literature of experience during the 1920s as an internationalist mode of expanding their knowledge of the world. My second section tracks how, amid the rise of the literary left and Popular Front aesthetics in the 1930s, Hemingway’s To Have and Have Not (1937) and Porter’s “Hacienda” (1937) warned against producing literature derived from ideological positioning as opposed to first-hand eyewitnessing. I close by demonstrating the surprising interest in authorial experience among New Critics such as Robert Penn Warren and Cleanth Brooks, who “disciplined” the literature of experience by re-envisioning place-based absorption as a matter of formal style, thus setting the tone for debates about authorial experience in the early post-1945 period.

Before Method and Models offers a revisionist account of political economy in the time of Thomas Robert Malthus and David Ricardo, c. 1790–1823. In contrast to simply assuming that ‘classical political economy’ existed and provides the context for making sense of the writings of Malthus and Ricardo, this book recovers the circumstances that shaped their works. This leads the inquiry into the major political controversies of the time—the Bullion Controversy and the Corn Laws debate—and the texts with which Malthus and Ricardo attempted to intervene into these disputes. The results show that political economy was produced using ready-to-hand concepts and instruments, giving its practitioners great intellectual freedom. Yet political economy was also expected to act as a species of counsel to Parliament and resolve policy questions. In this context, the presumption of Malthus and Ricardo to style themselves as ‘theorists’ who possessed special intellectual capacities that set them above merely ‘practical’ writers attracted hostile responses from their contemporaries. The tenuous position of theory in this period was worsened by the intellectual aftermath of the French Revolution, which enabled the enemies of Malthus and Ricardo to portray their work as theoretical enthusiasm—as the product of undisciplined minds that had succumbed to the pleasures of system, utopia, and fanaticism. The attack and defence of political economy in this setting was conducted with the vocabulary of theory and practice, and the period thus stands as a time when reflection on commerce and politics was conducted without method and models.

The requirements for higher fuel economy and better diesel and gasoline engines demand a wider range in turbocharger compressor operation. Ported shroud compressor housing is one of the most commonly used techniques for compressor map width enhancement. Although the general mechanism of such a flow feature is well understood, there are no readily available design tools to guide the engineers at the preliminary design stage. Designers have had to rely on three-dimensional (3D) CFD tools to sort out many design variables, but these tools can be prohibitively expensive. This paper explains how to develop a ported shroud compressor model on top of a commercial meanline compressor design program. The model considers some basic parameters, such as bleed location and geometry, which drive the recirculation or bypass flow through the bleed channel. The effects of the secondary flow on the compressor performance, such as pressure rise, efficiency, and stall and choke margins are also analyzed. The model prediction is validated with CFD simulation and test data.

Abstract:
Zero-dimensional (0D) compressor performance models, which consist of several sub-models for different loss terms, are useful tools in early design stages. In this paper, one typical model for centrifugal compressors is evaluated by comparing the loss-terms predicted by the model to data extracted from experimentally validated Large-Eddy-Simulation. The simulations were run on a truck-sized turbocharger compressor with a ported shroud and a vaneless diffuser. Four operating points are considered: One mass flow at design conditions and one mass flow close to surge, on two speedlines. The performance prediction models evaluated are impeller incidence loss, impeller skin friction loss, diffuser skin friction loss, and the tip clearance loss. Results show that the total losses are well-predicted by the model at design conditions. Friction losses are approximately independent of mass flow in the LES data, while the 0D model assumes a quadratic increase. The assumption of constant tip clearance loss is validated by the LES data, and the impeller incidence loss model also fits the data well. Due to the ported shroud, most of the losses as calculated by entropy increase occur through isobaric mixing at the impeller inlet.

A non-linear coupled-mode system of horizontal equations has been derived with the aid of Luke’s (1967) variational principle, modelling the evolution of nonlinear water waves in intermediate depth and over a general bathymetry Athanassoulis & Belibassakis (2002, 2008). Following previous work by the authors in the case of linearised water waves (Athanassoulis & Belibassakis 1999), the vertical structure of the wave field is exactly represented by means of a local-mode series expansion of the wave potential. This series contains the usual propagating and evanescent modes, plus two additional modes, the free-surface mode and the sloping-bottom mode, enabling to consistently treat the non-vertical end-conditions at the free-surface and the bottom boundaries. The coupled-mode system fully accounts for the effects of non-linearity and dispersion. The main feature of this approach that a small number of modes (of the order of 5–6) are enough for the precise numerical solution, provided that the two new modes (the free-surface and the sloping-bottom ones) are included in the local-mode series. The consistent coupled-mode system has been applied to numerical investigation of families of steady nonlinear travelling wave solutions in constant depth (Athanassoulis & Belibassakis 2007) showing good agreement with known solutions both in the Stokes and the cnoidal wave regimes. In the present work we focus on the hydroelastic analysis of floating bodies lying over variable bathymetry regions, with application to the non-linear scattering of water waves by large floating structures (of VLFS type or ice sheets) characterised by variable thickness (draft), flexural rigidity and mass distributions, modelled as thin plates of variable thickness, extending previous approaches (see, e.g., Porter & Porter 2004, Belibassakis & Athanassoulis 2005, 2006, Bennets et al 2007). Numerical examples are presented, showing that useful results can be obtained for the analysis of large floating elastic bodies or structures very efficiently by keeping only a few terms in the expansion. Ideas for extending our approach to 3D are also discussed.

Although a sizable number of studies have been exploring the migration development nexus in international settings, there is still a reduced number on internal contexts in recent years. This research aims to estimate the causal effect of origin economic conditions on internal population migration using a time series of the Colombian states between 2012 and 2019. This analysis provides a macro perspective of associations and causation between population dynamics and development in the current changes observed using spatial interaction models. Likewise, it analyses the current portray of internal migration in Colombia (defined by five-years and one-year flows). The evidence shows that the migration hump depends on the scale at which it is analyzed. At an aggregated scale, initial economic conditions are negatively associated with migration until a threshold where this relationship is reversed. The opposite is observed in the rural migrants subsample.

Brasil experimentó y aún experimenta un rápido proceso de envejecimiento poblacional, de modo más o menos acentuado, como en otros países en desarrollo en América Latina y el Caribe. La transición demográfica y epidemiológica, sumada a las mejores condiciones de vida de la población en las últimas décadas, ha garantizado un aumento en la expectativa de vida de los brasileños sin precedentes (IBGE 2015). Al mismo tiempo, el país ha experimentado un cambio social relacionado con las personas mayores. Si bien el número de adulto mayores económica y físicamente activos ha aumentado, también lo ha hecho el número de adultos mayores con dependencia funcional. El patrón usual del cuidado provisto por las familias se ha transformado a lo largo de los años, aumentando la carga principalmente de las mujeres, quienes cumplen jornada de trabajo formal e informal, dejando a esta población adulta mayor dependiente y a sus familias más necesitadas de apoyo y cuidados. Esta Nota Técnica es publicada conjuntamente por el Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo (BID) y por el Programa de la Unión Europea EUROsociAL, como parte de una serie de estudios sobre envejecimiento y atención a personas en situación de dependencia, disponibles en la página web "Panorama de Envejecimiento y Atención a la Dependencia" del BID. Su principal objetivo es describir las condiciones de salud de la población adulta mayor con dependencia en Brasil, además de caracterizar a esta población en relación a su perfil socioeconómico y demográfico. También se describen las principales políticas públicas y ofertas de servicios para las personas mayores con dependencia, incluyendo el sector público, privado y sin fines de lucro. Debido al modelo organizativo federalista, donde municipios y estados tienen autonomía para adherirse a programas y políticas del gobierno federal, las acciones no son homogéneas en todo el territorio. Buscando presentar un análisis con credibilidad de la realidad brasileña, se optó por presentar, además, de un estudio de caso del estado de São Paulo y de tres de sus municipios (São Paulo, Caraguatatuba y Taguaí), con portes poblacionales diferentes.
