Abstract:
A new module has been developed by the limited area model BRAMS to parameterize a wind farm power plant. BRAMS is developed to be a system for numerical weather prediction, and it is currently employed for operational environmental prediction by the CPTEC/INPE. The new module was able to simulate the impact from a set of wind turbines. The additional drag from turbines changes the turbulent kinetic energy (TKE). Some simulations were carried out considering wind power plant installed on the Brazilian territory.

It also outlines the contributions of William Farr, Francis Galton, Karl Pearson, Sir Ronald Aylmer Fisher, Leonard Henry Tippett, Ansley Johnson Coale, William Brass, and John ‘Jack’ Caldwell to the development of demography and demographic methods and analysis from the 19th century to the 21st century.

Abstract:
Chapter 7 establishes the rules and guidelines for complex motivic analysis (CMA). CMA is the more advanced mode of motivic analysis, which centers around the activity of a larger, network-type motive composed of elements from many domains (similar to Schoenberg’s Grundgestalt). The chapter first provides an introduction to the expanded format for motive, including guidance on which domains to include and the proper format for each. It then guides readers through construction of a complex motive for a short Brahms waltz. The remainder of the chapter is given over to describing the paired end products of CMA, which are (1) an Organic Map illustrating the most significant motivic connections in the manner of an enhanced BMA, and (2) a “Narrative” that tallies and charts the number of Complex elements exhibited by each surface segment of the work. The result of the latter process is a Narrative Curve that charts the work’s fluctuating level of organicism and directly reflects the piece’s CMA archetype. The chapter concludes with demonstration of a full CMA analysis of the Brahms waltz.

Abstract:
In this article, we compare the performance of a state-of-the-art segmentation network (UNet) on two different glioblastoma (GB) segmentation datasets. Our experiments show that the same training procedure yields almost twice as bad results on the retrospective clinical data compared to the BraTS challenge data (in terms of Dice score). We discuss possible reasons for such an outcome, including inter-rater variability and high variability in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners and scanner settings. The high performance of segmentation models, demonstrated on preselected imaging data, does not bring the community closer to using these algorithms in clinical settings. We believe that a clinically applicable deep learning architecture requires a shift from unified datasets to heterogeneous data.

Abstract:
The dynamic advancing and receding contact angles of 5μl water droplets were experimentally measured via the droplet impingement technique on a polished brass surface, one brass symmetric micro ratchet, and five brass asymmetric micro ratchet samples of varying dimensions. Droplets were released from varying heights (Weber number) and the impacts studied via high speed camera. Equilibrium advancing and receding contact angles were measured by placing a water droplet on the surfaces and tilting it. Contact angle values were then compared to an existing pool boiling model which incorporates the

This paper presents a method for design optimization of brass wind instruments. The shape of a trumpet’s bore is optimized to improve intonation using a physics-based sound simulation model. This physics-based model consists of an acoustic model of the resonator (input impedance), a mechanical model of the excitator (the lips of a virtual musician) and a model of the coupling between the excitator and the resonator. The harmonic balance technique allows the computation of sounds in a permanent regime, representative of the shape of the resonator according to control parameters of the virtual m

This study presents mechanical energy dissipation with a proof-of-concept prototype magnetostrictive (Fe-Ga alloy, galfenol) based shunt circuit using passive electrical components. Magneto strictive material can harvest electricity out of the structural vibrations based on the Villari effect using permanent magnet and pickup coil configuration. The device in this study consists of a polycrystalline galfenol strip bonded to a brass cantilever beam. Two brass pieces, each containing a permanent magnet, are used to mass load at the end of the beam and to provide a magnetic bias field through the

Abstract The paper presents the model of the dynamic behavior of vibrating structures where paramagnetic or diamagnetic conducting materials (such as Aluminum, Copper, Brass) are interacting with passive magnetic elements. The magnetic model is based on the analogy of the equivalent currents method in a quasi-static open-circuit-type configuration and it is used to determine the influence of eddy currents on the dynamic behavior of structures made of conducting materials. The effect of the magnetic interactions consists in a viscous-type damping effect as well as in an interesting stiffening e

Abstract:
Symphonies Reframed recreates symphonies as chamber music. The project aims to capture the features that are unique for chamber music, at the juncture between the “soloistic small” and the “orchestral large”. A new ensemble model, the “triharmonic ensemble” with 7-9 musicians, has been created to serve this purpose. By choosing this size range, we are looking to facilitate group interplay without the need of a conductor. We also want to facilitate a richness of sound colours by involving piano, strings and winds. The exact combination of instruments is chosen in accordance with the features of
