Full textIn the 30s, Prevert and his friends photographers contributed to found the emblematic artistic ideas of the period between the wars. Then the dialogue made between his writing and photography became very rich, even though it did not always lead to real collaborations. This can be seen through the significant place that photography took in Prevert's work, subtly poiting out thus how this technique was shaping his relations with the world, how it influenced the way he was catching reality. After the Liberation, Prevert took up the dialogue with photography again thanks to a new generation of photographers. From now on the relationship he kept us with them was different from the one he had had with the photographers 15 years earlier. Whereas with the latter, one could guess some mutual competition which had pervaded their respective works, after the war Prevert became a model to a whole generation of artists who chose to pursue the aesthetics started by their predecessors

Full textThe notion of model refers to a mode of representation, to an exemplary nature, and to a method of investigation. In the search of an identity, the city projects by different ways a representation of itself. The historians stack upon this idealized image one or several outlines of their own themes. Nimes appears so alternately as the example of the Latin colony, the Renaissant city filled with admiration for its own past, the fortified town Huguenot fighting for the religious freedom, the city of the Enlightenment spread around the vestiges of Augusteum. Today, the exceptional preservation of its antique monuments suggests that Romanity remained unchanged from the very beginning in the landscape and in the urban imagination. The archives of the consuls allow to establish on the contrary a slow maturation, accellerated by the violent disturbances of the civil wars and by the evolutions of defence systems. The city of Nemausus is familiar, but distant and legally worthless. The political body prefers to use the consular privilege, created by the counts of Toulouse, and on the particular status of the States of Languedoc to represent the community. Profoundly reformed in 1476, the consulate channels the local political debate until the Revolution. When, in the middle of the XVIIIth century, the industrial expansion shows the limits of its right on the space, it finds the means and the capacity to bend the choices of the royal power in town planning. The thesis, which covers in a equivalent way the three centuries of modern period, is organized in two parts, the identity of the city and the construction of the landscape

Ameille, Brice. "L’impressionnisme et la peinture ancienne : Itinéraire d’une avant-garde face à la tradition." Thesis, Paris 4, 2015. http://www.theses.fr/2015PA040088.
Full textImpressionism is often perceived as a genuine aesthetic revolution. However, over the course of past years, it has been reconsidered and this vision called into question. Without rejecting the groundbreaking characteristics of Impressionism, this thesis studies the relationship between the Impressionists and pictorial tradition. Referring to a large corpus of reviews, specialized articles, exhibition catalogs of the period, and supported by many iconographic analogies, it lists four major inspirations: the Venetian 16th century, the Spanish 17th century, the Dutch 17th century, and the French 18th century. In the light of this connection between Impressionism and Ancient painting, and with the help of a typology summing up the different positions regarding this connection, this thesis reexamines the crisis that Impressionism underwent during the early 1880’s and suggests a new approach to the movement

Full textBacterial wilt caused by the phytopathogenic bacterium Ralstonia solanacearum is one of the most important plant diseases worldwide. The RRS1-R gene (Résistance to Ralstonia solanacearum) confers broad spectrum resistance to several strains of this pathogen. It encodes an atypical resistance protein which combines the TIR-NBS-LRR domains found in several R proteins and a WRKY motif characteristic of some plant transcriptional factors. PopP2, a Ralstonia solanacearum type III effector which belongs to the YopJ/AvrRxv protein family, is the avirulence protein recognized by RRS1-R. Both partners can physically interact in the plant nucleus. Nevertheless, this physical interaction doesn't exclude the role of other plant components in the activation of resistance. According to the "guard model", avirulence proteins are virulence factors which manipulate plant proteins to favour microbial development. Resistance proteins would then act as guards of modified plant targets and activate resistance. In this context, search for PopP2 interactors has been initiated by a Yeast-2-Hybrid screening of an Arabidopsis cDNA library. Among several candidates, we identified and characterized RD19, a papain-like Cysteine protease. Using a reverse genetic approach, we showed that RD19 is involved in the establishment of resistance of A. Thaliana to R. Solanacearum. Transient expression in N. Benthamiana showed that, when fused to the fluorescent protein YFP (Yellow Fluorescent Protein), RD19 is detected in small mobile compartments targeted to the vacuole. Interestingly, when coexpressed with PopP2, RD19 is also detected in plant nuclei. .

Full textWomen's participation in the labour force doesn't depend only on economic variables such as women' wage and family incom e. In fact we always have to take into account the impact of child care modes on this participation. For this reason, the presence of relatives in the household, who constitute a potential source for child care, has also an affect on woman's decision to participate in the labour force. Considering the impact of female participation on the labour market , we find that the increase in the number of women in the labour force has a negative effect on the wage level of younger workers

Full textThis thesis aims to comprehend how children in joint physical custody evolve themselves in terms of socio-emotional adaptation and quality of life and analyzing the factors that could have an impact on their socio-emotional development. This study is based on a theoretical eco-systemic approach (Bronfenbrenner, 2005). Considering person, family and context to be the scales of comparision for the development of these children. The operational model of« the Process–Person–Context–Time » (Bronfenbrenner, 1996), allowed us to analyze the contribution of the aforementioned factors on these children.According to this perspective, 38 families having 56 children between the ages 4-12 years old in joint physical custody participated in this study through a questionary. The socio-emotional development was analyzed by taking into account the « Autoquestionnaire Qualité de vie-Enfant-Imagé » (A.U.Q.U.E.I. ; Manificat & Dazord, 1997) and the « Child Behavior Checklist » (C.B.C.L. ; Achenbach, 1991). The mothers and/or the fathers were also queried to evaluate their parenting abilities by using several tools as follows the « Coparental Interaction Scale » (Ahrons & Wallisch, 1987), the « Parenting Alliance Inventory » (Abidin & Brunner, 1995) and the « Post-Divorce Conflict Scale » (Sonnenblick & Scharwz, 1992). The post-conjugal relationship was analyzed by the following « Coparental Interaction Scale, nonparental dimension » (Ahrons & Wallisch, 1987) and « Attachment Scale » (Kitson, 1982).Our principal results indicate that children in joint custody testify globally a satisfactory quality of life particularly in the sphere of family upbringing. Also approximately three quarters of the total children can be placed in the non- pathological zone on the internalized adaptation and the externalized adaptation scale. Amongst the factors taken into consideration, we note that first of all there is a significant effect of the sex and age of the children between 4 to 6 years tend to show less personal internalizing problems. While the girls can be placed on the pathological scale of externalizing adaptation in a larger number compared to the boys. Secondly, the results reveals that the co-parental relationship influences the socio-emotional development of children and that the covert hostility constitutes the most raddled risk factor. However, this result varies according to the age of children. Finally, the impact of the characteristics of the context is highlighted, namely the post-conjugal relationship, the degree of hostility before the separation and the type of agreement that the parents express of their children’s development. Nevertheless, it is proved that this influence is indirect but moderated by the co-parental relationship. The total of the obtained results allows us to propose new perspectives and leads for intervention

Full textThe need for accurate predictions of flash floods has been highlighted by the recent occurrences of catastrophic floods. The scope of this thesis is therefore to apply machine learning to forecast cévenol flash floods, which have caused casualties and huge damage in France over the last 20 years. The work was performed in the framework of the Bassin Versant Numérique Expérimental Gardon project, initiated by the French Ministry in charge of Sustainable Development. In this context, this work addresses the capability of machine learning to provide flood forecasts in the absence of rainfall forecasts The first part of this manuscript describes the family of functions chosen in the present study - neural networks-, their ability to forecast the behavior of non-linear dynamic processes, their fundamental properties (universal approximation and parsimony), as well as the conventional methods used to prevent overfitting. The second part of this work presents the river under investigation, the Gardon d'Anduze, as well as related hydrological studies. The third part presents the application of two traditional regularization methods: early stopping and weight decay. In order to allow the prediction of very intense floods, an original variable selection method is proposed: “partial cross validation”. After careful variable and model selection, the ability of models, obtained by either regularization method, to predict the most dramatic event of the database (September 2002) is assessed, thereby allowing an early warning of the populations. Thus, this work demonstrates that, in contrast to statements found in many publications on neural networks applied to flash-flood forecasting, the prediction of an event that is more intense than the events present in the database is feasible, provided a rigorous methodology is used. For this reason, this work opens the way to making current models more adaptive, and to applying the method to ungauged basins

Full textLocal adaptation is a micro-evolutionary phenomenon, which arises when populations of the same species are exposed to contrasted environmental conditions. If this environment exert some natural selection pressure, if an adaptive potential exists among the populations and if the gene flow is sufficiently mild, populations are expected to tend toward a local adaptive optimum. In this thesis, I study the methodological means of the study of local adaptation on the one hand, and I investigate this phenomenon along an elevation gradient in the alpine plant Arabis alpina on the other hand.In the first, methodological part, I show that the genome scan methods to detect selection using genetic markers might suffer strong false positive rates when confronted to complex but realistic datasets.I then introduce a statistical method to detect markers under selection, which, contrary to existing methods, make use of both the concept of genetic differentiation (or Fst) and environmental information. This method has been developed in order to reduce its global false positive rate. Finally, I present some perspectives regarding the relationships between the relatively old ``common garden'' experiment and the new developments in molecular biology and statistics. In the second, empirical part, I introduce an analysis of the demographic characteristics of A. alpina in six natural populations. Besides providing interesting biological information on this species (low life expectancy, strongly contrasted reproduction and survival...), these analyses show that growth increase and survival decrease with the decrease of average temperature (hence with altitude).Since these analyses do not allow us to rule out hypotheses such as drift and phenotypic plasticity, I show the results of a common garden experiment which enable us to smooth phenotypic plasticity and, when combined with molecular data, enable us to rule out the hypothesis of drift. The results show the existence of an adaptive phenotypic syndrome, in which plants are smaller, are more compact, grow slower and reproduce less in cold temperature environments.Using the molecular data, I draw a list of 40 locus which might be involved in this adaptive process. In the end, I discuss these empirical findings as a whole to place them in a more general context of alpine ecology. I sum up the main methodological challenges when studying local adaptation and offer some methodological perspectives

Full textStrasbourg City choice of a “garden area” method of urban planning as the Urban Renewal Project (PRU) of Hautepierre area is not without questioning specialists interested in the subject. This thesis analyzes the potential resources of Hautepierre area to be reorganized into a “garden area”. This research sheds also lights on the elaborating process of the PRU, the involvement of the inhabitants, and the principal actors of this project (inhabitants, social landlords bailleurs sociaux, professionals and political representives). Evaluating the participation of Hautepierre inhabitants in the elaboration of the Urban Renovation Project (PRU) in term of capability reveals that there is no real active participation of these inhabitants. The “garden area” appears as a compromise between the National Urban Renewal Agency (ANRU) security requirements and the demand made by the inhabitants to preserve green areas. This choice is also symbolic in regard to the history of Hautepierre area and its socio-economic caracteristics

Full textThe objective is to check if a 2D numerical code is able to simulate floods in very urbanized areas. It appears that some comutations errors occur when calculating the rapid flows in the crossroad. Consequently, an experimental and analytical study took place in order to check the flow patterns which occur during the floods and to verify the capacities of the numerical code to compute these flows. Various flow types were observed depending on the caracteristics of the hydraulic jumps which appear in the flow in the junction or the upstream branches. Furthermore, the code is able to compute fairly all the flow patterns and the flow distribution in the downstream branches. Nevertheless, some uncertainties remain concerning the computation of the local water depths

Full textThis exploratory work is a study for teachers for 5-year-old children in a reception class, about an elaboration of a scale for identification of the Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD). Children DCD are victims of late tracking and detection, which have serious consequences in the emotional, social, school activities, for themselves and their families. An earlyidentification allows a diagnosis so that supports can be organized early in the entrance of the primary school. The theoretical reference of item response, model of RASH, has developed an intensity scale. It contains 22 items, fit the diagnostic criteria for developmental dyspraxia and school activities : the Adaptation Scale of School Life. This scale, has been applied to 144 children from 3 years 2 month to 9 years 2 month (divided into 4 groups with specific profiles : withlearning difficulties, living with disabilities, DCD, Persuasive Developmental Disorders). This shows that it’s sensitive to the effects of development. It discriminates on one single latent trait of children DCD. The scale applied to a second 185 children common group from 3 years 5 month to 6, shows a gender effect, a class effect for boys. This second study provides a further score threshold for screening and support in the classroom. Statistical tests highlight the reliability and the validity of the scale. Further work is planned and possible scale development proposed. A digital information (CD)on the DCD that proposes wide tracking for users of the scale (teachers) is also developed

Full textThis thesis contains three econometric essays on child human capital and well-being. Each essay has a distinct methodology to meet the purpose. In the first chapter, we evaluate the long-term effects of a reform of universal child care in Canada on children's health, motor and social development, and behaviour. We show that the policy had negative effects on preschool children's well-being, but these effects tend to disappear as the child gets older. We find that this pattern persist even ten years after the implementation of the reform. The second chapter focuses on the effect of the intensity of child care on preschool children's cognitive development using propensity score matching with multivalued treatments. We show that the effects of child care are significantly heterogeneous and vary by family socioeconomic status, schooling or not of the child, the intensity of child care and the type of child care arrangement. The third chapter models mathematics trajectories of Canadian children aged 7 to 15 years and identifies risk factors during early childhood on the membership of these trajectories using Group-Based Trajectory Modeling (Nagin, 2005)

Full textThe item of uncertainty into the architecture representation is not new. The ancient figurations showed differences in visual processing between existing structures and missing elements. Since the 1990’s, the emergence of digital tools and the use of 3D in virtual archaeology have offered to the archaeologists new possibilities to represent the uncertainty. But the 3D restitution is not always express the historical authenticity. This is in this context that rules were written, based on the transparency and the traceability of the process of study and the construction the three-dimensional representation. Researches in the domain of the uncertainty representation have concerned the modalities of expression and perception of the uncertainty with, especially, the development of devices able to translate the state of the knowledge. Whether information systems linking 3D representations and documentary sources or application of visual variables, the different propositions on the definition of uncertainty and its representation modes allowed to experiment some of these approaches to the charterhouse of Villeneuve lez Avignon (Gard, France) and the benedictin abbey of Saint-Michel-de-Cuxa (Pyrénées-Orientales, France). From the documentary sources, archaeological studies and digital data, 3D models have been built. But our researches led us to think about the uncertainties of those information and on ways to visualize them. The approaches and methodologies produced in this thesis underline the multidisciplinary of the work, mixing archaeological knowledge and the exploitation of the digital instruments for the acquisition, the treatment and the visualization of data in 3D

Full textAbstract: The French high-speed rail (HSR) system has contributed to spatial and territorial restructuring. The expansion of the network accompanied the development of new stations. The territorial integration of these stations has been extensively researched, except in the Île-de-France region, at the core of the rail network. Focusing on the case of Marne-la-Vallée Chessy station, this thesis analyses the territorialisation of the Île-de-France HSR stations (located on the outskirts of Paris) in view of the evolution of the TGV model: the development of a TGV offer bypassing the centre of Paris (TGV intersecteur) in the 1980s and more recently of new low-cost HSR services (Ouigo). This study articulates three approaches to understand the territorial integration of this station: an analysis of stakeholders in the field of transport and urban development; the study of the relational capacity of the station and its traffic; and the analysis of users’ practices (tourist mobility). This work sheds new light on the way regional development projects consider, or fail to consider, on HSR. This research documents how the relationship with the Parisian centrality has been a lever in the management of the HSR Interconnexion project and its three interlocking objects: line (network-support), service model (network-service) and station (node-place). Contrasting with the national and interregional logics which have gradually come to dominate the reading of the project, we identify a twofold relationship to the Parisian centrality on a sub-regional scale and uncover complex spatial restructuring issues. The development of the Ouigo offer has contributed to an evolution of the role of Marne-la-Vallée Chessy as a gateway to the city, with a complexification of territorial dynamics of which the station is the interface. The evolutions related to Ouigo are not limited to Marne-la-Vallée Chessy, and the thesis provides insights on the new functional distribution between Paris inner-city stations and Île-de-France HSR stations. It also provides an initial analysis of the changes in the offer of TGV services bypassing Paris, and of the organisation of the TGV offer in France, following the start of Ouigo services

Several stations of the new line 15 will be excavated at great depths up to 40m and supported by strutted retaining walls. The use of a finite element modeling is essential regarding the exceptional context of the project especially the impact on the surrounding structures, the presence of impervious soils, overconsolidated and deformable (Plastic Clay) and the need to use advanced constitutive models to describe the soils behavior in the typical strain ranges proper to rigid retaining walls. This research aims to deepen understanding of the behavior of retaining walls for deep excavations by analyzing the limitations of modelling namely finite element method and subgrade reaction method and by comparing their results with a real monitored excavation. An advanced monitoring based on fiber optic and pressure cells was set up in the station of Fort d’Issy-Vanves-Clamart and the measurements feedback allow assessing the relevance of the different adopted modellings
