Abstract:
ABSTRACT Phage K is a polyvalent phage of the Myoviridae family which is active against a wide range of staphylococci. Phage genome sequencing revealed a linear DNA genome of 127,395 bp, which carries 118 putative open reading frames. The genome is organized in a modular form, encoding modules for lysis, structural proteins, DNA replication, and transcription. Interestingly, the structural module shows high homology to the structural module from Listeria phage A511, suggesting intergenus horizontal transfer. In addition, phage K exhibits the potential to encode proteins necessary for its own replisome, including DNA ligase, primase, helicase, polymerase, RNase H, and DNA binding proteins. Phage K has a complete absence of GATC sites, making it insensitive to restriction enzymes which cleave this sequence. Three introns (lys-I1, pol-I2, and pol-I3) encoding putative endonucleases were located in the genome. Two of these (pol-I2 and pol-I3) were found to interrupt the DNA polymerase gene, while the other (lys-I1) interrupts the lysin gene. Two of the introns encode putative proteins with homology to HNH endonucleases, whereas the other encodes a 270-amino-acid protein which contains two zinc fingers (CX2CX22CX2C and CX2CX23CX2C). The availability of the genome of this highly virulent phage, which is active against infective staphylococci, should provide new insights into the biology and evolution of large broad-spectrum polyvalent phages.

This research was conducted to design a prototype of a wireless electrical energy transmission system and design a wireless electrical energy recording system using the NRF24L01 wireless transmitter module and the PZEM004T kWh meter module. The design in this study uses the principle of electromagnetic induction to transfer electrical energy at close range, while to transmit data, the authors use the NRF24L01 module. Besides, the authors use the PZEM004T module to measure various magnitudes. Based on the results of observations and measurements of the design of the tool, the authors found that the transmission of electrical energy using electromagnetic induction is not effective for longer distances because the energy lost in the air is getting bigger. So this technology needs to be further investigated. Besides, the measurement of electrical quantities using the PZEM module has a small difference (under 2%) with measurements using a multimeter, so it can be said that the measurement with the PZEM004T module is effective.

This paper proposes an accurate model of Photovoltaic Module. The model is presented in details and simulated by Matlab Simulink. The PV module is presented as a two diode model with the series’ and parallels’ resistances. The method is used to obtain the parameters of the module by using data provided by the manufacturer. To verify the accuracy of the proposed model, a comparison is done between the present results and those in a previous paper in which the single diode detailed model was studied. The same type of modules (PWX 500) is used to compare and validate results. The weather data as illumination and temperature are taken as input variables when current and Power are output variables. For the validation of the proposed model, it is used to power a resistive load by using a boost converter controlled by à Maximum Power Point Tracking method. The proposed method is very detailed and can be useful for PV researchers for their works.

Abstract:
The relentless growth of Internet and communication technologies has made the extensive use of images unavoidable. The specific characteristics of image like high transmission rate with limited bandwidth, redundancy, bulk capacity and correlation among pixels makes standard algorithms not suitable for image encryption. In order to overcome these limitations for real time applications, design of new algorithms that require less computational power while preserving a sufficient level of security has always been a subject of interest. Here Advanced Encryption Standard (AES),as the most widely used encryption algorithm in many security applications. AES standard has different key size variants, where longer bit keys provide more secure ciphered text output. The available AES algorithm is used for data and it is also suitable for image encryption and decryption to protect the confidential image from an unauthorized access. This project proposes a method in which the image data is an input to Pipelined AES algorithm through Textio, to obtain the encrypted image. and the encrypted image is the input to Pipelined AES Decryption to get the original image. This project proposed to implement the 128,192 & 256 bit Pipelined AES algorithm for image encryption and decryption, also to compare the latency , efficiency, security, frequency & throughput . The proposed work will be synthesized and simulated on FPGA family of Xilink ISE 13.2 and Modelsim tool respectively in Very high speed integrated circuit Hardware Description Language.

Abstract:
This study aims to identify measurable parameters that could be used as objective assessment parameters to evaluate surgical dexterity using computer-based assessment module. A virtual reality module was developed to measure dynamic and static hand movements in a bimanual experimental setting. The experiment was conducted with sixteen subjects divided into two groups: surgeons (N = 5) and non-surgeons (N = 11). Results showed that surgeons outperformed the non-surgeons in motion path accuracy, motion path precision, economy of movement, motion smoothness, end-point accuracy and end-point precision. The six objective parameters can complement existing assessment methods to better quantify a trainee’s performance. These parameters also could provide information of hand movements that cannot be measured with the human eye. An assessment strategy using appropriate parameters could help trainees learn on computer-based systems, identify their mistakes and improve their skill towards the competency, without relying too much on bench models and cadavers.

Abstract:

Distributed Generation source have wide application due to their phenomenal advantages. These sources include Photovoltaic (PV) cells producing DC voltage at their output that connects the network through a power electronic interface. PV characteristics, on the other hand, illustrate the fact that maximum power can be extracted at the optimal operating point depending upon the solar radiation and ambient temperature. In order to keep the PV module at its optimal operating point, a DC-DC converter is often used between a PV module and inverter. Consequently, Maximum power point trackers (MPPT) grab the foremost position in the efficiency analysis of the global PV system. Among the several MPPT algorithms, Incremental Conduction technique isemphasised upon as it is extremely simple in implementation within electronic programmable circuits. This paper incorporates the MPPT model using a PV module that always works in its optimal operating point. Design and experimental results of a small prototype of MPPT is presented here based on the Simulink model to verify the advantages of proposed integrated system.

Abstract:
In order to better understand the hypnotic phenomena described in the field of experimental research, we produced a synthesis on the different theories of hypnosis. This synthesis work allowed us to propose a redefinition and a modeling, the I3 Model, of what we call "hypnosis" by thinking these situations in terms of simple psychological and cognitive mechanisms. To test our modeling, we have built a series of experiments around two "sensory" hypnotic phenomena present in the standard hypnotizability scales: "arm immobilization" and "mosquito hallucination". Thanks to the application of a suggestion "engaging in interoception and imagination" (EII) resulting from our modeling, it has been possible to increase, largely above the results obtained in the literature, the hypnotisability of subjects not specifically selected for their hypnotic skills, without training or prior hypnotic induction. Finally, in a last experiment, we wanted to apply our modeling to a more complex hypnotic phenomenon involving an uncontrollable automatic process: the Stroop effect cancellation. Our EII suggestion makes it possible to reduce the Stroop effect on unselected subjects, but does not seem efficient enough to produce powerful visual hallucinations having such a massive effect as that obtained with High Hypnotisable subjects. The implications of our work are discussed in conclusion

This chapter covers a project that was part of an I3 (Ideas, Innovation, Invention) challenge within a global engineering, junior course at University of Mount Union. The course exposes engineering students to global societal challenges and their solutions. Of importance in this project is the need to boost numbers in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and the need to increase diversity. With this in mind, the team developed and tested five different activities that involved different areas of STEM that were both fun and didactic in nature. Each activity had an associated module to allow for assessment of understanding. An orange buoyancy module, a strength of paper module, a soil erosion module, a simple circuit module, and a simple electric motor module were developed. They were tested on K-5 students at Washington Elementary School, Alliance, OH and on K-5 students at Ollas Arriba Elementary School, Panama City, Panama.

Abstract:
The challenge of meeting the Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards of 2025 has resulted in the development of systems that utilize alternative energy propulsion technologies. To date, the use of solar energy as an auxiliary energy source of on-board fuel has not been extensively investigated, however. The authors investigated the design parameters and techno-economic impacts within a solar photovoltaic (PV) system for use as an on-board auxiliary power source for the internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and plug-in electric vehicles (EVs). The objective is to optimize, by hybridizing, the conventional energy propulsion systems via solar energy based electric propulsion system by means of the on-board PVs system. This study is novel in that the authors investigated the design parameters of the on-board PV system for optimum well-to-tank energy efficiency. The following design parameters were analyzed: the PV device, the geographical solar location, thermal and electrical performances, energy storage, angling on the vehicle surface, mounting configuration and the effect on aerodynamics. A general well-to-tank form was derived for use in any other PV type, PV efficiency value, or installation location. The authors also analyzed the techno-economic value of adding the on-board PVs for ICE vehicles and for plug-in EVs considering the entire Powertrain component lifetime of the current and the projected price scenarios per vehicle lifetime, and driving by solar energy cost ($ per mile). Different driving scenarios were used to represent the driving conditions in all the U.S states at any time, with different vehicles analyzed using different cost scenarios to derive a greater understanding of the usefulness and the challenges inherent in using on-board PV solar technologies. The addition of on-board PVs to cover only 1.0 m2 of vehicle surfaces was found to extend the daily driving range to up to 2 miles for typical 2016 model vehicles, depending upon on vehicle specifications and destination, however over 7.0 miles with the use of extremely lightweight and aerodynamically efficient vehicles in a sunny location. The authors also estimated the maximum possible PV installation area via a unique relationship between the vehicle footprint and the projected horizontal vehicle surface area for different vehicles of varying sizes. It was determined that up to 50% of total daily miles traveled by an average U.S. person could be driven by solar energy, with the simple addition of on-board PVs to cover less than 50% (3.25 m2) of the projected horizontal surface area of a typical mid-size vehicle (e.g., Nissan Leaf or Mitsubishi i-MiEV). Specifically, the addition of the proposed PV module to a 2016 Tesla Model S AWD-70D vehicle in San Diego, CA extended the average daily range to 5.2 miles in that city. Similarly, for the 2016 BMW i3 BEV in Texas, Phoenix, and North Carolina, the range was extended to more than 7.0 miles in those states. The cost of hybridizing a solar technology into a vehicle was also estimated for current and projected prices. The results show for current price scenario, the expense of powering an ICE vehicle within a certain range with only solar energy was between 4 to 23 cents per mile depending upon the vehicle specification and driving location. Future price scenarios determined the driving cost is an optimum of 17 cents per mile. However, the addition of a PV system to an EV improved the economics of the system because of the presence of the standard battery and electric motor components. For any vehicle in any assumed location, the driving cost was found to be less than 6.0 cents per mile even in the current price scenario. The results of this dynamic model are applicable for determining the on-board PV contribution for any vehicle size with different powertrain configurations. Specifically, the proposed work provides a method that designers may use during the conceptual design stage to facilitate the deployment of an alternative energy propulsion system toward future mobility.
