Abstract:
Protective relays are important parts of the power system. The protection guards valuable equipment, and protective relays play a vital role in performing the task. The relay detects fault conditions within an assigned area, opens and closes output contacts to cause the operation of other devices under its control. The relay acts to operate the appropriate circuit breakers to prevent damage to personnel and property. To ensure consistent reliability and proper operation, protective relay equipment must be evaluated and tested. The importance of the relay evaluation issue is linked to capabili

Abstract:
Modelling of protective relays offer an economical and feasible alternative to investigate the performance of relays and protection systems. To study the performance of the relay characteristics, single line to ground fault at different zones with and without fault resistances are considered. A Fast Fourier Transform block in PSCAD/EMTDC has been used to extract the fundamental component. The test network used in this work is 230kv transmission line systems.

Abstract:
Noise levels in modern industrial and military environments are constantly increasing, requiring the improvement of current hearing protection devices. The improvement of passive hearing protection devices lies in examining the performance of major contributors to reduction of noise attenuation. The finite element method can be used to fully explore single hearing protection (SHP) and double hearing protection (DHP) systems, and the major performance mechanisms can be observed numerically as well as visually in modern postprocessing software. This thesis focuses on developing and evaluating d

Abstract:
Differential protection is the unit protection system which is applied to protect a particular unit of power systems. Unit is known as zone in protection terminology which is equivalent to simple electrical node. In recent time, low impedance current differential protection schemes based on percentage restrained characteristics are widely used in power systems to protect busbar systems. The main application issue of these schemes is mis-operation due to current transformer (CT) saturation during close-in external faults. Researchers have suggested various solution of this problem; however, ind

Abstract:
Power distribution systems have underwent a lot of significant changes in the last two decades. Wide-scale integration of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) have made the distribution grid more resilient to abnormal conditions and severe weather induced outages. These DERs enhance the reliability of the system to bounce back from an abnormal situation rather quickly. However, the conventional notion of a radial system with unidirectional power flow does not hold true due to the addition of these DERs. Bidirectional power flow has challenged the conventional protection schemes in place. The mo

The main objective of this thesis is to examine the possibility of cooperation of IEDs from ABB and Siemens in accordance with IEC61850. The aim is to create and test a workflow, after which protection relays from ABB and Siemens will communicate with each other via GOOSE messages. This paper provides a description of the international standard IEC61850, as a theoretical basis. Describes in detail the configuration of protection relays SIPROTEC 7SA610 according to IEC61850. Work provides a description of the configuration tools PCM600 and IET600 which are used for configuration of protection r
