An approach for modeling and numerical simulation of planar components using the edge line concept is developed. With this method, we develop an efficient modeling technique for microstrip discontinuities. The structure presents an arbitrary number of ports, each one with different orientation and dimensions. This article presents a hybrid method based on multimode contour integral and mode matching techniques. The process is based on segmentation and dividing the structure into key building blocks. We use the multimode contour integral method to analyze the blocks including irregular shape di

Reliable hygrothermal modelling depends on the quality of material characterization, especially so when higher moisture contents are concerned. Previous research has shown that adding additional material tests (e.g. capillary condensation redistribution (CCR) test) to the experimental dataset brings improvements to the modelling accuracy, but also adds to the workload of characterization process. This paper discusses a generative optimization workflow to increase the speed of the characterization and quality of the result. The proposed workflow incorporates optimization tool GenOpt and hygroth

Characterization and modelling of primary settlers have been neglected pretty much to date. However, whole plant and resource recovery modelling requires primary settler model development, as current models lack detail in describing the dynamics and the diversity of the removal process for different particulate fractions. This paper focuses on the improved modelling and experimental characterization of primary settlers. First, a new modelling concept based on particle settling velocity distribution is proposed which is then applied for the development of an improved primary settler model as we

Although substantial advances in geochemical modelling have improved our ability to understand and improve mine site characterization and remediation, the limitations of modelling are often underappreciated. Modelers must have expertise in chemistry, geology, hydrology, geochemistry, and microbiology. Those who use codes must understand inorganic chemistry, thermodynamics, and kinetics for water-rock interactions. They must understand that code output is only useful insofar as they understand the limitations of the database and the built-in assumptions. A brief overview of geochemical code dev

The use of fibre reinforced concrete (FRC) as a construction material has expanded beyond the traditional applications since the publication of design codes and guidelines. Despite the remarkable advances in the fibre reinforcement technology and the publication of design guidelines, questions continue to arise regarding the performance, the characterization and the modelling of the material. Pervious concrete is a special material with high permeability usually obtained by reducing the amount of fine aggregates in the composition of concrete. The properties of pervious concrete not only depend on its composition but also on the construction methods. The compaction process has a direct influence on the values of permeability and mechanical properties achieved. In fact, depending on the level of compaction applied, the same composition might give a highly pervious or even an almost impervious concrete. A series of aluminia and titania promoted, silica- supported chromium (III) acetate catalysts were characterized using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) prior to, and after, activation in oxygen at 780 C. The results indicated that Cr (VI) was formed in each case as a result of the activation process. Increased promoter metal binding energies implied an interaction between the promoter and silica support. It is proposed that there is insertion of aluminium and titanium atoms into the silica network, which leads to formation of surface silicates. A qualitative measure of the metal dispersi

Web Warehousing is conceptually similar to Data Warehousing approaches used to integrate relational information from databases.
