Ultrasonography is an imaging technique used very often in the medical field for purposes of diagnosis or evaluation. It is a completely noninvasive procedure that involves the use of high-frequency sound waves to map an image of internal body structures the result of which has brought a revolution in modern diagnoses in medicine. Continuous improvements in transistor scaling together with microarchitectural advances have made possible the widespread adoption of high-performance processors across all market segments. However, the growing reliability threats induced by technology scaling and by the complexity of designs are challenging the production of cheap yet robust systems. Abstract:
Models are of great interest in many fields of engineering as they enable prediction of a systems behaviour, given an initial mode of the system. However, in the field of model-based diagnosis the models are used in a reverse manner, as they are combined with the observations of the systems behaviour in order to estimate the system mode. This thesis describes computation of diagnostic systems based on models implemented in Dymola. Dymola is a program that uses the language Modelica. Abstract:
This dissertation concerns the ability of human observers to perform detection tasks in medical images that contain structured noise. We shall show that physical measures of image quality, such as signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), resolution, modulation transfer function (MTF), and contrast, do not accurately predict how well an observer can detect lesions in an image. We have found that for images with equal pixel SNR, humans can detect a low contrast object more readily in images that have a low-pass noise structure, as opposed to a high-pass noise structure. This finding is important in the comp
