Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to present a comprehensive literature review that seeks to address modern factors worldwide that are associated with the selection of current procurement methods. The aim is to develop an up-to-date multi-attribute procurement decision-making chart for selecting the appropriate method for the project. Design/methodology/approach – Stage 1 (literature review). The search engines, Emerald; Business Source Premier; Science Direct and Sage were selected to identify journals that have published the most procurement methods-related articles. The search covered the period 1980-2015. Stage 2 (Survey) – after analyzing and appraising the literature, an up-to-date utility decision-making chart for selecting the appropriate procurement method for the project was developed. The chart was based on findings from a survey that included 57 construction professionals and who have demonstrated sound experience about the various procurement options. Findings – There is no one best procurement method for all projects. The selection depends on the nature of the issues or problem at hand. Decision making is not a punctual act. It is often a complex process. Effective decision making also demands quality and timely information, and a careful consideration of alternatives. The multi-attribute decision-making chart presented in this paper has included modern criteria and the client would have end up with different recommendations and consequences should these criteria were not included in priority weightings. Practical implications – The literature review provides states-of-the art research in the field of procurement methods in construction and the multi-attribute chart is intended to offer decision makers an opportunity to broaden their horizon on the different alternatives procurement routs that could lead to different consequences. Originality/value – To the best of the authors’ knowledge, very few publications have discussed modern selection criteria for procurement methods in construction under one study. Therefore, this paper has established a platform for scholars and researchers to obtain more useful insights into procurement methods concerns. It has identified research trends in procurement methods which may allow industrial practitioners to appreciate the key concerns in their development of modern concepts and principles such as supply chain, lean construction, sustainability, innovation, value engineering, e-procurement and Building information modeling. The inclusion of these modern criteria will present and add value to procurement decision makers within the construction industry.

Abstract:
In the presented article there will be discussed measures which allow to lower expenses for the maintenance of the machinery and which contribute to the increase of energy saving in general. To achieve these goals, it is proposed to apply modern methods of organizing and operation works, to use high-tech construction equipment, and also to form an optimal mechanization complex of building and construction works. The optimization criterion is the cost of work. When determining costs for the operation of construction machinery at the site, we take into account their energy efficiency, compare the options and manage the most efficient fleet of construction equipment. In the course of meeting the task, there were drawn conclusions which demonstrate that an integrated approach to the formation of machinery parks on the construction site allows to use the available resources more rationally, in order to improve the environmental component and improve the quality of construction work.

Currently, we are witnessing the significant impact of industrial activity on the environment. A recent study shows that construction is the third largest industry sector in terms of environmental pollution. One option to reduce these negative effects is environmental assessment of buildings, as well as the used building materials. One of the most comprehensive environmental assessment methods is LCA (Life Cycle Assessment), which includes the assessment of impacts within mode ”Cradle-to-gate” which is focused on assessment of a partial product life cycle from resource extraction (cradle) to the factory gate (i.e., before it is transported to the consumer). The aim of this paper is a comparison of the environmental impact of selected material variants applied within modern methods of construction. The comparison will be processed through the results of the case study containing three material variants of family houses construction in term of three selected parameters - embodied energy, global warming potential and acidification potential.

Abstract:
This work is aimed at studying the physicochemical processes and establishing the functional dependence of the strength parameters on the sulfur concentration in the composite. The introduction of sulfur in the composite contributes to a change in strength properties, an increase in frost resistance. The dependence of strength on sulfur concentration was studied. The experimental function is determined analytically by solving a system of linear algebraic equations consisting of canonical equations of a given approximating function. The behavior of the dependence of strength on the concentration of nanotubes at two intervals is plotted graphically. Further studies are needed to gain a complete picture of the composite and its characteristics. Nowadays, the results of determining the deformative characteristics are being processed, the impact of the water-cement ratio, the equivalent economic assessment are being studied. At present, an analytical description of the physicochemical and physicomechanical dependencies is being carried out, and an aggregate mathematical model is being built. The results will be presented to the public at subsequent scientific and research conferences.

Abstract:
In recent years quite a number of important coast protection and harbour construction works in Europe, in the U.S.A. and in Japan have been built or strengthened with the use of asphalt according to established methods of construction in various countries. These works have proved to be not only technically sound and durable but also economical in initial capital investment as well as in maintenance costs. Moreover, as the results obtained have been very encouraging, new outlets and methods of construction with asphalt are being sought, and systematically investigated and developed to cover a wider field of application for coast protection and harbour construction works. Although there are many purposes and means of applying asphalt constructions for these works, the author has limited the scope of his paper to describe in particular the fundamental problems related to the hydraulic and asphalt-technical aspects of building dams and dikes of sand according to the hydraulic fill process, covered and protected by a two course hot-mix asphalt revetment or layer. Assuming a general knowledge of the various facets of hydraulic dam and dike constructions and of asphalt construction methods the author deals with essential items concerning the hydraulic and strength design of asphalt revetments for dikes and dams and describes certain details of construction that require particular attention and perhaps further investigation as experience has proved.

Abstract A range of new and innovative construction systems, currently developed, represent modern methods of construction (MMC), which has the ambition to improve the performance parameters of buildings throughout their life cycle. Regarding the implementation modern methods of construction in Slovakia, assembled buildings based on wood seem to be the most preferred construction system. In the study, presented in the paper, were searched already built and lived-in wood based family houses. The residents’ attitudes to such type of buildings in the context with declared designing and qualitative parameters of efficiency and sustainability are overlooked. The methodology of the research study is based on the socio-economic survey carried out during the years 2015 - 2017 within the Slovak Republic. Due to the large extent of data collected through questionnaire, only selected parts of the survey results are evaluated and discussed in the paper. This paper is aimed at evaluating the quality of buildings expressed in a view of users of existing wooden buildings. Research indicates some defects, which can be eliminated in the next production process. Research indicates, that some defects occur, so the production process quality should be improved in the future development.

Abstract:
Before the advent of reinforced cement concrete and steel structures in the 20th century, structures like Arches, domes and vaults were being widely used worldwide. Arches were mainly used in span openings replacing beams. This was done based on the erstwhile cultural aesthetics and technical development in the prevailing construction methodologies. Nowadays, about 35 to 40 percentage of the total construction cost is being consumed by steel and concrete and therefore constructing a building without steel and concrete contributes to reduction in cost. Vaults and arches do not require concrete and steel but use only bricks and hence environment friendly. This paper deals with the design and construction procedure for structural members including the vault and buttress wall. It also highlights the reduction in cost when adopting vault method over conventional methods, in a residential building. The Vault prototype has been made with the studied design and concepts. The idea is to introduce this technique as a cost reduction approach and to preserve this ancient construction technique. Also, this method will be economical for construction of low cost houses up to two storeys.

Abstract:
Folded structures are three-dimensional structures - spatial structures and they belong to the structural systems. The term folded structure defines a folded form of construction, including structures derived from elements which form a folded structure by their mutual relationship in space. For very long time this type of construction has been realized in practice only in of reinforced concrete and made on site, which conditioned the use of a very complicated shell. Development of prefabricated building led to improvements of this type of construction so that the folded structures could be derived by assembly of prefabricated elements and their relationship - monolithization on site. Development of the research of folded structures, starting from their earliest days to today, followed the innovations and latest developments in terms of applied materials and methods of connection. The tendency for the cost effective and quicker construction pushed the folded structures made in reinforced concrete, and led to the construction realized in wood, steel and other modern materials that eventually experienced expansion.

Abstract:
Currently, in the building industry is emphasizes the sustainability of construction. Sustainable buildings have low costs for energy consumption and operations, they are environmentally friendly, able to save natural resources and they are comfortable and healthy for their users. One of the factors contributing to this requirement is also application of more or less known materials and components through modern methods and technologies. Modern methods of construction (MMC) can be the way, how to achieve buildings, that can minimise the negative impacts of building life cycle on the environment. MMC can, in addition to increasing the efficiency of the construction, ensure the requirements resulting from Agenda 20-20-20 in energy consumption. The paper is focused on the research and comparison of two low-energy houses groups from technical and quality indicators point of view and especially from the perspective of relationship between construction cost and building volume. One of the groups is low-energy houses made of bricks by traditional methods (TM) and the second group representative of modern methods of construction are low-energy houses made of ceramic panels.

Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to compare building control procedures in the countries of the European Union (EU) and Russia. Considered issues are related to regulatory regulation in countries, a fundamental approach to control, participants, performance results, as well as a vector for the development of construction control activities. The solution of these problems was carried out with the help of studying the foreign experience of research on this subject, as well as studying the regulatory framework for this area in the Russian Federation and the countries of the European Union. As a result of the science-metric analysis, a systematized database of official sources for regulating construction control was created. In addition, the concept of automated control was developed. The result obtained allows us to develop a comprehensive system of building control, to ensure an increase in the safety of construction and installation works. Using the data obtained, it is possible to take into account the experience of both structures and create automated software to track the construction process as a whole or as individual parts, to timely eliminate the identified defects. The possible options for improving software technologies for building control that differ from the others is by the possibility of choice of independent and dependent control parameters, by model of processing results of the construction process control in order to localize the defective situations and minimize the size of the secondary damage from the effects of the commissioning of buildings. Based on the obtained data the further development of models and algorithms for construction control of buildings and structures providing the required level of reliability and safety of their construction and operation, taking into account technical and economic efficiency criteria.
