Full textThe Belgian painter Léon Frederic (1856-1940), nicknamed the “gothique moderne”, played a key role at the turn of the 20th century as one of the main actors of Belgian modern art, both on the national and international artistic scene. Based on a rigorous examination of a studio collection of several thousand pieces, archives and unpublished correspondence, as well as on the realization of the catalogue raisonné of the work, this study aims to reconstruct the trajectory of an omnipresent painter, forgotten faced with the "mythology of rupture" of the avant-garde. If the history of art has retained the image of a mystical painter recluse in the countryside, the comprehension of his career enabled to reconstruct the portrait of a “faux-naïf” aware of the promotional stakes. Frederic belongs to a new Belgian elite who was at the origin of the intense cultural life in Brussels. Throughout his career, he has developed a new image of the "people", worker and peasant, both as a point of convergence of the necessary and moral image, wanted by the supporters of the social art, and as a projection of a cultural imagination, specific to an elite in search of a better future for the underprivileged classes. Stylistically, his art, approaching the "archaïsme moderne" theorized by Emile Verhaeren, imposes it in the new international and modernist field of the Secessions as the ideal and sought-after ethnotype of the "Flemish" artist. A bourgeois and marginal painter, elite and social, national and cosmopolitan, Frederic appeared as one of the heralds of the modernity and invites us to question the binarity of the conception of art at the end of the 19th century

Abstract: We evaluated in this work the effects of Royal Jelly (RJ) on growth and differentiation of bone marrow and spleen hematopoietics progenitors in Listeria monocytogenes (LM) infected mice. We also evaluated serum colonystimulating activity, alterations in spleen weight and animal resistance front to the infection. In such way, BALB/c mice were profilacticly treated with RJ by gavage for 7 consecutive days with doses at 125, 250, 500 and 750 mg/Kg. Three hours after the last treating day the animais were infected intraperitoneally with a sublethal dose of the bacteria (1x103 LM/animal). To evaluate animal resistance front to the infection we carried out a survival analysis with a lethal dose of the bacteria (1x105 LM/animal). Our results demonstrated significant decrease on the hematopoietic progenitor numbers in LM bearing mice and significant extramedullar hematopoiesis as consequence. In the other hand, myelossupression induced by listeriosis was reverted when bearing mice were treated profilacticly with ali doses of RJ, resulting in normal levels of CFU-GM. Another important aspect regards colony-stimulating factor production by hematopoietic cells. In this direction, we observed that the infected animais presented higher serum colony-stimulating activity. Previous administration of RJ at ali doses in infected mice significantly increased serum stimulatory activity as well as CFU-GM number when compared to non-treated bearing groups. We also observed spleen weight increase in the non-treated infected group at ali doses, which contrasted with normal values obtained in previously treated bearing mice. In addition, the administration of RJ at 125, 250, 500 and 750 mg/Kg increased animal resistance front to listeriosis to 37,5%, 37,5%, 25% and 12,5%, respectively. Our results have demonstrated that RJ has a stimulating effect on the modulation of the immuno-hematopoietic response in mice infected with LM. Moreover, the treatment with RJ increased survival rate in infected mice with lethal dose of the bacteria. We demonstrated that RJ presents extensive therapeutic dose range since the adminisitration of ali evaluated doses (125, 250, 500 and 750 mg/Kg) presented similar results

Full textThe Fauves and the Brücke enlightened the art of "the Primitive Artists" from Oceania, Africa and America. Transforming the western vision of art, they activated a crisis among the prevailing usual artistic manners in Europe which, according to them, were just another way to depict the Nature. In that distance they revealed the Art's Other : they imposed by their creations a new aesthetic and cultural vision and they did create and moreover added the word "Primitivism" when they discoursed on the Modern art. Thereby these Artists represented a certain way of feeling and the following expressions such as, "Negro art", "Primitive Art", "Orient", corresponding to imaginary categories used to put a label on the Art's Other. They nonetheless contributed to change their contemporarie's mentalities in showing that art was not the privilege of the sole western countries, and in placing on an equal level European and "Primitive" cultures. On the one hand, these artistic transfers were helped by "boatmen" such as Aby Warburg, Franz Boas, Leo Frobenius or Augustin Krämer who brought these objects to Europe and studied art of the "Primitive" peoples, the birth of ethnology being linked to the colonial context. The Fauves and the artists of die Brücke shared a common way to look at African Art while their perspectives crossed concerning Oceanian Art, but the German were the only one to recognize Native American Art as an Art before 1914. On the other hand their artistic creation shows an hybridization of cultural transmissions, noticeable their stylistic borrowings, in their artistic practices and even in their way of life as far as die Brücke is concerned

Abstract: This work anaIyzed tbe immunomodulating effect of Agaricus blazei Murrill (ABM) dried extract on growth and differentiation of hematopoietic precursors of granulocyte-macrophage (CFU-GM) in the bone marrow and spIeen of BALB/c mice infected witb Lisleria monocylogenes. We aIso evaluated the colony stimulating activity of the serum, changes in spleen weigh, and the animals resistance to infection. To conduct the research, BALB/c mice were treated prior to the infection with three difeerent doses of ABM (500, 1000 and 1500mg/Kg), via gavage during seven consecutive days. After that the animals were infected intraperitoneally with a subletha1 dose (1x10 3 bacterial animaI) of Listeria monocytogenes to evaIuate tbe hematopoietic parameters. The animaIs were likely infected with a lethal dose (6x ] 04bacteria/animaI) 10 evaIuate their resistance 10 infection in a survivaI curve. The results showed a significant decrease in the hematopoietc precursors of the bone marrow, a significant increase in extramedular hematopoiesis and consequent spleenmegaly, and an increase in the production of colony stimulating factors in the non-treates infected animaIs. When the animaIs were previously treated with 1000 and 1500mg1Kg of ABM we observed a significant reversion of infection-induced mielosupression, to normal levels, spleenmegaly inhibition and extramedular hematopoiesis in the infected and pretreated groups with all the doses. A significant increase in the serum stimulating activity was also observed in the pretreated infected animais with na adicional increase in a period of 48hs after the infection with 1000 and 1500mg/Kg of the extract. The treatment with ABM increased animal resistance to listeriosis, and the probability of survival for the 1000 and 1500mg/Kg doses was 50% and 80% respectively. These results suggested that ABM is a powerful immunomodulator capable of increasing the survival of animals mfected with a lethal dose of Listeria monocytogenes, possibly due to this extract capacity of restoring marrow and splenic hematopoesis

Full textThe resulting urban expansion from the rapid development of cities is a major challenge for sustainable development. Thus, the design of appropriate computational models that enable the simulation, spatialized visualization and analysis of the process of urban growth is critical. Neighborhood Management policies and types of urban growth are made up of equipment represented by different types of permits or concessions for opening and business operation. Also for road systems, transportation systems, political and administrative boundaries, zoning and street layout. It can be demonstrated in a spatial database by (a) georeferenced open data, a term that characterizes human elements, demographic, socio-economic, infrastructure, environmental and historical conditions, (b) different geometries (point, line and polygon) and (c) use of spatial functions for topological relations, directional or metrics between devices. Construction and implementation of the proposed model in this paper are used the above items (a, b, c) and a set of questions prepared by experts in the planning area, identified as primordial concepts to urban growth area. In relation to the goal and modeling the most relevant contributions are: (1) the representation by means of a small set of primitives in a database with spatial extension, (2) the development of a vocabulary or assigning a semantic the model, (3) the interaction between different concepts associated with the process of urban growth, (4) the possibility of expansion and integration of other areas of georeferenced data and open and (5) in the lower run time to 10 seconds to 70% spatial queries. Contributions in relation to the experiment with users, considered the web interface developed in this work: (1) on the fact that the tool covers the needs as regards the generation and spatialized visualization of data for 4 of 5 users, (2 ) interacting with georeferenced data of business licenses, neighborhoods and streets boundary and (3) in the data visualization from the historical and spatial point of view.

Full textThis study intends to investigate and clarify the links between the Early Netherlandish pictorial tradition (15th and 16th centuries) and mystical literature as exemplified by Ruysbroeck the Admirable and the authors associated with the Modern Devotion (devotio moderna). Focusing on a corpus of works by Jan van Eyck, Rogier van der Weyden, Petrus Christus, Hans Memling, Hugo van der Goes, the Master of the View of St Gudule, the Master of 1499, the Master of Alkmaar, Hieronymus Bosch, Gerard David and Jan Mostaert, this analysis brings to light that painting and writing enrich each other’s meaning. In the first part, we shall observe the ways in which the painters captured the dynamic progression of the various types of vision (active, internal and contemplative) as well as the ways in which they addressed the phenomenon of disimagination. The second part of this study will highlight the fact that the image supports the spiritual and meditative practices of the faithful through various processes and techniques (mnemonic, participative etc.). The third part of the analysis will focus on the visual treatment of a key idea defined by Ruysbroeck the Admirable, and adapted by the authors of the Modern Devotion: dat ghemeine leven (the common life)
