Tiden er apokalyptisk, som Jacque Derrida påpeger det i sit essay "No Apocalypse, Not Now" (1).

<em>The Stolen Myth: Contemporary Reflections of Antiquity</em>. Proceeding from Roland Barthes’ debunking of ”Romans on film” in the now classical collection <em>Mythologies</em> from 1956, this paper attempts to scrutinize certain popular notions about Greek Antiquity as resulting from so-called hypercorrections of the past. A recent exhibition of reconstructed polychrome statues and reliefs from Classical Antiquity (<em>White Lies</em>), and the Hollywood blockbuster movie <em>Troy</em>, are seen as indicative of this hypercorrecting urge. The arguments goes that such versions of the past – while still being symptomatic of an emergent historical consciousness – suffer from a lacking appreciation of the categories ‘myth’ and ‘history’ in their pre-modern relationship of dynamic complementarity.

Abstract:

Abstract:
ENGELSK ABSTRACT: Mette Mechlenborg: At Home in Globalisation? The recent renaissance of home in culture and media has reactivated a discussion about the role of anchor in the theories of globalisation. It has also revived the discussion of the consequences of globalisation in everyday life. Today the challenge is not so much to understand the difference between a homebound life and globalisation, but to establish a dialogue between the two. By trying to place home in the center of theories on mobility, modernity and globalisation, this article focuses on the gap between traditional understandings of globalisation and myths of everyday life and home. Theoretically and methodically this article lies in the field between housing research, cultural studies and theories of globalisation. It is embedded in the writings of Marshall Berman and in Mieke Bal’s theory of “travelling concepts“, developed for interdisciplinary studies, but goes through a range of canonised publications and writings dealing with the gap between home and globalisation as it tries to open up for a more up to date and post modern definition of the globalised home. Key words: Globalisation, home, everyday life, mobility, theory.

"A Multicenter Study of Romiplostim to Treat Chemotherapy-Induced Thrombocytopenia in Solid Tumors and Lymphoid Malignancies." Abstract:
Introduction : Chemotherapy-induced thrombocytopenia (CIT) is a common complication in cancer patients causing chemotherapy treatment delays, dose reductions, and discontinuation. A major unmet clinical need, there is no FDA-approved agent available to manage CIT. Given this, we developed clinical pathways to treat CIT at 4 large academic hospitals. Data using romiplostim to manage CIT is limited to small single-center studies and case series of solid tumor patients only. We performed the first large multicenter study of romiplostim for CIT, including both solid tumor and non-myeloid hematologic malignancy patients. Methods : We retrospectively collected demographics, cancer and chemotherapy data, romiplostim dosing, weekly platelet counts (Plt), and outcomes of romiplostim support for patients treated on institutional romiplostim CIT pathways from 2009-2019. For solid tumor patients, 2 institutions utilized intracycle dosing (romiplostim administered on average twice monthly on chemotherapy-off weeks) and 2 utilized standard weekly romiplostim dosing, facilitating comparison of dosing strategies. Romiplostim response was defined as a median on-romiplostim Plt of ≥75×109/L and at least 30×109/L higher than baseline. Baseline characteristics were analyzed for predictors of romiplostim non-response using multivariate logistic regression. Wilcoxon signed-rank and Mann-Whitney U tests compared paired and unpaired groups and Chi square and Fisher's exact tests compared categorical outcomes. Results : 173 patients (153 solid tumor, 20 lymphoid malignancy) were treated for CIT with romiplostim to facilitate ongoing chemotherapy administration, with 170 (98%) receiving a median (range) of 4 (1-36) additional chemotherapy cycles over 10 (2-125) weeks of romiplostim support. A total of 61.3 patient-years of romiplostim treatment of CIT were analyzed for effectiveness and safety. Table 1 lists baseline patient characteristics and Table 2 details chemotherapy regimens precipitating CIT and supported on romiplostim. Median per-patient Plt on romiplostim was significantly higher than baseline (all patients, 112×109/L vs. 54×109/L, P&lt;0.001; solid tumor patients, 116×109/L vs. 60×109/L, P&lt;0.001), Figure 1. Median romiplostim starting dose was 3 µg/kg/week, which was also the median optimized romiplostim dose (dose achieving Plt &gt;100×109/L). While on romiplostim, bleeding occurred in 7.5% of patients and venous thromboembolism occurred in 4.6% (at Plt 65-306×109/L). Compared with intracycle romiplostim dosing, weekly romiplostim dosing resulted in higher median Plt (Figure 2) and fewer chemotherapy delays/dose reductions with no difference in bleeding or thrombotic events (Table 3). Characteristics of solid tumor patients predicting non-response to romiplostim per multivariate regression included biopsy-proven bone marrow invasion by tumor (P&lt;0.001), prior pelvic irradiation (P=0.029), and prior temozolomide (P=0.031) (Figure 3), with only 23%, 20%, and 46% of patients, respectively, achieving a romiplostim response compared with 82% of all other solid tumor patients. Plt improvement with romiplostim was modest in patients with myeloma (N=7, median per-patient Plt 39×109/L with romiplostim vs. 19×109/L at baseline, P=0.078) and aggressive lymphoma (N=13, 47×109/L with romiplostim vs. 23×109/L at baseline, P=0.033), Figure 3, with only 35% receiving more than 1 additional chemotherapy cycle on romiplostim. All myeloma and lymphoma patients were dosed weekly and had extensive bone marrow involvement by malignancy. Conclusions : We present results of romiplostim treatment of CIT in a large cohort of 173 cancer patients, including lymphoid malignancies. Dosing strategies were compared and predictors of non-response were evaluated. Romiplostim was highly effective in solid tumor patients with CIT, allowing chemotherapy administration. Bleeding and thrombosis rates were similar to the general cancer patient population. Both weekly and intracycle dosing were effective and equally safe, but weekly dosing maintained higher Plt overall and higher Plt nadirs with fewer chemotherapy dose reductions or treatment delays. Bone marrow invasion, pelvic irradiation, and prior temozolomide predicted romiplostim non-response. Romiplostim had modest effectiveness to manage CIT in lymphoid malignancy patients with underlying bone marrow involvement. Disclosures Al-Samkari: Moderna: Consultancy. Abstract:
This article is a rereading of Friedrich Max Müller’s theory of the origin and growth of religion and mythology in the light of modern cognitive theories. The intention of this research is to draw attention to Max Müller’s linguistic and cognitive hypothesis of mythology and religion and compare it to modern cognitive theories presented by Mark Turner, Gilles Fauconnier, George Lakoff and Mark Johnson. In the theory of Max Müller, notions such as ‘myth being a disease of language’ and ‘man’s propensity to religion’ originate from a certain ‘mental faculty’, which reveals an ontologically distinct definition of religion. According to Max Müller, myth is the result of the defective attempt of early language to classify the surrounding world of man. These theories, which have been considered idiosyncratic and useless, appear more plausible in the light of current cognitive linguistics, and Max Müller’s intuitions are viewed in the light of these recent theories.

Abstract:
This paper investigates the impact of capital structure on firm performance using a sample of 3,122 observations of 446 non-financial listed companies on the Vietnam stock market during 2011-2017. Using firm performance measures, namely ROE and Tobin Q, we examined if higher leveraged firms are more efficient or less in their performance. We employed the fixed effect model to prove that there is an inverse U-shaped relationship between leverage and ROE, and then we can find a preferred capital structure for Vietnam non-financial firms. To deal with endogeneity problem of the leverage variable, we employ two stage least squares (2SLS) regression with instrument variable estimators, which helps us strengthen the above results. Abstract:

Abstract:
The project aims to develop customized wrist guards for snowboarders. By using optimized design for comfort and ease of use, the primary aim is to offer the customer a functional and high-quality protection. This is achieved by using materials that, considering the injury status of the practitioners, herein are considered to best meet the demands of such a protection. The choice of materials was made after a comprehensive literature-based study on wrist guard function and mechanisms responsible for wrist injuries. This study, along with other collected data, has formed the basis for the design process and the final product. Solutions to current problems with existing wrist guards have been applied to the final product. Requirements on ease of use and accuracy of fit have been met by abandoning the traditional closure-system of Velcro, in favor for an established lacing system that has been adapted to the current product. The entire shape of the wrist guard, combined with the selected materials breathable qualities, offers the user an increased comfort. The complementary aim of the project is to understand why so few practitioners wear wrist guards, and bring forth solutions that attracts to the usage of such. Wrist guards are currently unpopular amongst snowboarders, despite wrist fracture being the most common injury associated with the sport. Through the development of better wrist guards the injury statistics can be greatly improved.

Abstract:

This study is based on interviews with six students from Stockholm that have shared their feelings/opinions about how they experience their identity as a student. The aim of this master’s thesis is to examine how the identity of students is constructed but also how the post modern society affects the life that the students are living. With a higher demand on education and responsibility of making the right decisions, the student’s main concern is not only her studies, but also the goal to succeed in her life. The result points out that the environment which the student lives in has an influence on how the identity develops. The identity has nothing to do with the actually fact that the student studies, but with how the student acts outside the university.

Belmar, Shagulian Jasmin. "El mito de la Quintrala : Estructuras simbólicas en dos novelas de Gustavo Frías." Doctoral thesis, Stockholms universitet, Romanska och klassiska institutionen, 2017. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:su:diva-142124.

Full text
Abstract:
The purpose of this comparative study is to analyse La Quintrala’s myth as a symbolic discourse, thereby filling a gap in the previous studies about La Quintrala. The theoretical and methodological framework of this analysis consists of a hermeneutical approach based on the method of figurative structuralism: mythocriticism. This is a dual classification method of symbols: Diurnal and Nocturnal Orders that expose the symbolic structures formed by symbols and archetypes found in mythemes in a compilation of corpora. The first one is Gustavo Frías’ novels Tres Nombres para Catalina: Catrala (2008) and Tres nombres para Catalina: la doña de Campofrío (2008); the second is a historic essay (hypotext), Benjamín Vicuña Mackenna’s Los Lisperguer y la Quintrala (1944), and four novels: Magdalena Petit’s (2009) La Quintrala, Mercedes Valdivieso’s (1991) Maldita yo entre las Mujeres, Virginia Vidal’s (2002) Oro, veneno y puñal, and Gustavo Frías’ El Inquisidor (2008). Mythocriticism is employed in the analysis to show what the mythical structure of the hero’s journey (Separation, Initiation, Return) reveal. Such journey is combined structurally with the Mother archetype (White, Red and Black Goddess), the intrinsic archetype of La Quintrala’s myth. The heroic structure unveils its own mythemes, La Quintrala’s and the first corpus’s mytheme through the diachronic and synchronic flow of the hero’s journey. This method permits to identify and compare the progression of the symbolic structures. The analysis demonstrates a transformation of the symbolic structures between both corpora. This survey reveals that Vicuña Mackenna and Petit, and partially Vidal and El Inquisidor, exhibit an inclination to the diurnal symbols that strengthen, through a heterodiegetic narrator, the representations of the witch-femme fatale, counteractive attributes of the Red and Black Goddesses in the myth. Valdivieso, on the other hand, shows a propensity to the nocturnal symbols of inversion and intimacy that emphasize the Red Goddess’ features, though the novel also exposes La Quintrala as a witch-femme fatale. This exposure occurs through the use of both an autodiegetic narrator –La Quintrala– and a heterodiegetic one –the hypotext embodied in the popular voice– that appear to contrast each other. Finally, in Tres Nombres para Catalina, La Quintrala as the autodiegetic narrator dominates the whole story. She personifies the Great Goddess archetype who bestows her new positive attributes during the adventure. This novel assumes primordially the nocturnal symbolism incarnated by both the mystical and the synthetical structures and relegates the diurnal discourse of the hypotext to a secondary position in the narrative. Nonetheless, Tres Nombres para Catalina’s narrative still relies on the hypotext to reproduce and reconstruct all the mythemes in the myth of La Quintrala. Conclusively, the results of this analysis indicate that the identification of all the mythemes supports the hypothesis of a transformation in the symbolic structures which characterize La Quintrala in both corpora. This reveals the embodiment of Tres Nombres para Catalina’s own mytheme, consisting of a vindication and a recognition to her indigenous heritage, and the acceptance of her mestizaje. As a consequence, Tres nombres para Catalina, in comparison to the second corpus, diverges and expands the symbolic structures, but still shows a continuity of the myth.

Abstract:
The focus of this practical theological study is Pentecostalism, and the relationship between the hermeneutics of Pentecostalism and Postmodernism. Through a literary search, we observe the points of congruency between the hermeneutics of early Pentecostals and the key tenets of Postmodernism. We note the unprecedented acceptance of Pentecostal scholars into the larger theological world and question whether this is a result of the increased Modernization of Pentecostal hermeneutics. The Postmodern world of youth is explored, and we observe their tremendous openness to spirituality. This thesis will show that Pentecostals may contribute to the Christian world a Pentecostal hermeneutic that will speak a relevant message to generations of youth. Chapters two and three examine the convergent viewpoints of Pentecostalism with Postmodernity, in terms of rationalism, narratives, and the place of experience in life and theology. Chapter four highlights the hermeneutical debate between Gordon D. Fee and his Pentecostal responders, noting the Modern approach in the principles debated. Chapter five seeks to provide interaction with a giant of theology seldom engaged by Pentecostals - Rudolf Bultmann - and his modern followers, and explores the world of Postmodern youth. Chapter six explores the work of Kenneth Archer, who has proposed a specific Pentecostal hermeneutical approach, and chapter seven discusses the role of the Holy Spirit in hermeneutics, including whether Pentecostal experience may be considered an ”edge” in hermeneutics. Chapter eight summarizes the findings of this study.
