Abstract:
Purpose – Guided by the proposed opportunity and resource integrative entrepreneurial growth model, the purpose of this paper is to explore how different opportunity type firms grow integrally and what the laws for different opportunity integration growth modes are. Design/methodology/approach – A multiple case study on six firms in information and communication technologies industry in China is conducted. Findings – Three types of entrepreneurial opportunities exist. These are identification type opportunity, discovery type opportunity, and creation type opportunity. Entrepreneurship among the three types of entrepreneurial opportunities operates under different laws. For each type of entrepreneurial opportunity, firms need to balance the two growth modes, namely, the opportunity identification and assessment/resource allocation mode and the opportunity utilization and resource identification/acquisition mode, in order to achieve a leveraging effect. Research limitations/implications – Vertical comparison is missing. Practical implications – Firms need to balance the two growth modes, namely, opportunity identification and assessment and resource allocation mode and opportunity utilization and resource identification and acquisition mode, to achieve leverage effect. Originality/value – This paper integrates system theory with entrepreneurship research and proposes the opportunity and resource integrative entrepreneurial growth model. This model is helpful, both in aiding firms to follow the laws for entrepreneurial opportunities and to identify entrepreneurial opportunities. The business model plays a vital role in entrepreneurship. Firms taking advantage of the Internet of Things are more likely to gain a competitive advantage and to achieve success in their entrepreneurial activities.

Abstract:
Purpose Theory predicts that balancing exploratory and exploitative learning (i.e., ambidexterity) across alliance portfolio domains (e.g. value chain function, governance modes) increases firm performance, whereas balance within domains decreases performance. Prior empirical work, however, only assessed balance/imbalance within and across two domains. The purpose of this study is to determine if theory generalizes beyond specific domain combinations. The authors investigated across multiple domains to determine whether alliance portfolios should be imbalanced toward exploration or exploitation within domains or balanced across domains. The authors also extended prior research by exploring whether the direction of imbalance matters. Current theory only advises managers to accept imbalance without helping with the choice between exploration and exploitation. Design/methodology/approach Hypotheses are tested using fixed-effects generalized least squares (GLS) regression analysis of a large 13-year panel sample of Fortune 500 firms from 1996 to 2008. Findings With respect to the balance between exploration and exploitation within each of the five domains investigated, imbalanced alliance portfolios had higher firm performance. No evidence was found that balance across domains relates to performance. Instead, for four of the five domains, imbalance toward exploration related positively to firm performance. Originality/value An alliance portfolio that allows for exploration in some domains and exploitation in other domains appears more difficult to implement than prior theory suggests. Firms benefit mostly from using the alliance portfolio for exploratory learning.

Abstract:
The paper presents comparative analysis of technological parameters of depletion and water-oil displacement modes during the exploitation of oil banks in gas-condensate deposit with horizontal well in gas-free production rates based on the three-phase multi-component filtration model. In water-oil displacement regime the oil recovery factors were higher compared to the depletion mode. The development profitability was justified. The increase of oil recovery factor in water-oil displacement regime is achieved due to the weak rate of flooding in well production and unrecoverable capacity of the fluid injected into the reservoir. The practicability of oil banks exploitation in gas-condensate deposit in gas-free rates at the first stage of development in depletion and in water-oil displacement modes at further stage correspondingly is justified.

Abstract:
The paper investigates influence of age specific harvest on the dynamics of populations with density dependent regulation of birth rate. We consider the population which by the end of each reproduction season, consists of two age groups: juveniles (immature individuals) and adults (participants of the reproduction process). A harvest rate growth of any age class is shown to give, as a rule, the dynamics stabilization. However, the system with harvesting demonstrates multimodality phenomenon as well as the population model without exploitation. The phenomenon means different dynamic modes are observed with the same values of the population parameters. As a result, some difficulties occur in predicting population dynamics, because harvest can lead to significant changes of population size due to shifting current population size from one attraction basin to another. To neutralize the oscillations emerged is necessary to change the current population size so that it falls into the attraction basin of the fixed point. The stability loss way of model with juvenile harvesting does not depend on the harvest rate value and is completely determined by the intensity of competitive relationships between the age classes. In the case of adult exploitation, a higher harvest rate can result in growing stationary population size. The changing the time of adult harvesting can lead to both the dynamics population stabilization and the occurrence of fluctuations. Exploitation before the reproduction season allows to have more yield than after reproduction season because mature age group size is higher. Conditions when the age specific harvest gives the maximum sustainable yield are considered.

Abstract:
Visual search is coordinated adaptively by monitoring and predicting the environment. The supplementary eye field (SEF) plays a role in oculomotor control and outcome evaluation. However, it is not clear whether the SEF is involved in adjusting behavioral modes based on preceding feedback. We hypothesized that the SEF drives exploration-exploitation transitions by generating “surprise signals” or rectified prediction errors, which reflect differences between predicted and actual outcomes. To test this hypothesis, we introduced an oculomotor two-target search task in which monkeys were required to find two valid targets among four identical stimuli. After they detected the valid targets, they exploited their knowledge of target locations to obtain a reward by choosing the two valid targets alternately. Behavioral analysis revealed two distinct types of oculomotor search patterns: exploration and exploitation. We found that two types of SEF neurons represented the surprise signals. The error-surprise neurons showed enhanced activity when the monkey received the first error feedback after the target pair change, and this activity was followed by an exploratory oculomotor search pattern. The correct-surprise neurons showed enhanced activity when the monkey received the first correct feedback after an error trial, and this increased activity was followed by an exploitative, fixed-type search pattern. Our findings suggest that error-surprise neurons are involved in the transition from exploitation to exploration and that correct-surprise neurons are involved in the transition from exploration to exploitation.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to reexamine exploration-exploitation’s reciprocality in organizational ambidexterity (OA) research. OA figures prominently in a variety of organization science phenomena. Introduced as a two-stage model for innovation, theory specifies reciprocal reinforcement between the OA processes of exploration (eR) and exploitation (eT). In this study, the authors argue that previous analyses of OA necessarily neglect this reciprocality in favor of conceptualizations that conform to common statistical techniques. Design/methodology/approach The authors propose joint-variance (JV) as a soluble estimator of exploration–exploitation (eR-eT) reciprocality. An updated systematic literature synthesis yielded K = 50 studies (53 independent samples, N = 11,743) for further testing. Findings Three primary findings are as follows: JV reduced negative confounding, explaining 45 per cent of between-study variance. JV quantified the positive confounding in separate meta-analytic estimates of eR and eT on performance because of double-counting (37.6 per cent), and substantive application of JV to hypothesis testing supported OA theoretical predictions. Research limitations/implications The authors discuss practical consideration for eR-eT reciprocality, as well as theoretical contributions for cohering the OA empirical literature. Practical implications The authors discuss design limitations and JV measurement extensions for the future. Social implications Learning in OA literature has been neglected or underestimated. Originality/value Because reciprocality is theorized, yet absent in current models, existing results represent confounded or biased evidence of the OA’s effect on firm performance. Subsequently, the authors propose JV as a soluble estimator of eR-eT learning modes.

Abstract:
The Aim—this paper is to investigate whether there is a certain kind of organizational modes for cooperative technological exploitation. In recent years, an important objective of cooperative R&D alliances built by independent organizations is to explore a new market or to exploit the existing one. Whether the objective can be achieved or not is tightly related to the governing efficiency of the R&D alliance, and the latter in turn depends on the suitable organizational mode. The Method--this paper selects 39 Heating Ventilating and Air Conditioning companies listed in Shanghai and Shenzhen Stock Exchange according to some certain criteria, and collects their collaborative R&D cases since their listing, and then analyzes the impact of technological exploitation objective to the selection of cooperative R&D organizational modes in light of LOGIT model. The result—this paper shows that the equity mode is prior to the non-equity one no matter the R&D alliance is to explore a new market or exploit the existing market.

Abstract:
The design of a teleoperated 8-DoF redundant robot for Doppler sonography is detailed in this paper. The proposed robot is composed of a 7-DoF robotic arm mounted on a 1-DoF linear axis. This solution has been conceived to allow Doppler ultrasound examination of the entire patient’s body. This paper details the design of the platform and proposes two alternative control modes to deal with its redundancy at the torque level. The first control mode considers the robot as a full 8-DoF kinematics chain, synchronizing the action of the eight joints and improving the global robot manipulability. The second control mode decouples the 7-DoF arm and the linear axis controllers and proposes a switching strategy to activate the linear axis motion when the robot arm approaches the workspace limits. Moreover, a new adaptive Joint-Limit Avoidance (JLA) strategy is proposed with the aim of exploiting the redundancy of the 7-DoF anthropomorphic arm. Unlike classical JLA approaches, a weighting matrix is actively adapted to prioritize those joints that are approaching the mechanical limits. Simulations and experimental results are presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control modes.

To fully understand the nature of the entrepreneurial process, researchers must take into account how individuals learn and how different modes of learning influence opportunity identification and exploitation. This article makes connections between knowledge, cognition, and creativity to develop the concept of learning asymmetries and illustrates how a greater appreciation for the differences in individual learning will fortify entrepreneurship research.

ABSTRACT Accounting researchers are becoming increasingly interested in the performance effects of business intelligence (BI) systems in their role as management control systems. Extant research focuses on the performance effects of adopting and implementing such systems. However, there is less known about how organizations use the information in BI systems for management control once implemented, and whether the use of this information translates into organizational performance. We utilize the theoretical connection between information systems and organizational learning to explain the performance effects of BI system use through organizational learning. Evidence from recent literature indicates the need for organizations to engage in exploitation and exploration learning in pursuit of organizational ambidexterity. Our study draws on agenda setting and framing theories to provide insights that will enable organizations to strategically use the information in two fundamental BI systems to emphasize either or both modes of learning. Subsequently, we examine whether the two modes of learning translate into performance.

Abstract:
Purpose Organizational ambidexterity brings together the paradoxical tensions between exploration and exploitation. Embracing such paradoxical tensions depends on both separating the poles to appreciate their distinct elements and integrating them to appreciate their synergies. This paper explores integrative ambidexterity that focuses on the synergies between exploration and exploitation and theorizes these as a single, paradoxical mode of learning. Design/methodology/approach The authors provide conceptual commentary that aims to expand the attention within the ambidexterity literature from emphasizing separation to further accommodating integration. Findings The authors outline that attention to separating exploration and exploitation needs to be complemented with a focus on integration, hence, the notion of integrative ambidexterity. Research limitations/implications The authors surface three processes that advance integrative ambidexterity – novelty via memory; agility via focus; and the potential for improvisation. Together, these dynamics enable organizations to achieve an alternative approach to learning and adaptation. Practical implications Understanding “integrative ambidexterity,” stressing the synergies between exploration and exploitation, extends the understanding of the nature and approaches to creating learning organizations. The authors three practices offer a potential blueprint to do so. Originality/value Previous scholarship emphasized how leaders can separate exploration and exploitation by allocating these learning modes to distinct organizational units or addressing them in different time horizons. However, extant authors have less insight about the integration and synergies between exploration and exploitation, and the organizational factors that advance such integration.

Abstract:
Abstract Generally, an optical vortex lattice (OVL) is generated via the superposition of two specific vortex beams. Thus far, OVL has been successfully employed to trap atoms via the dark cores. The topological charge (TC) on each optical vortex (OV) in the lattice is only ±1. Consequently, the orbital angular momentum (OAM) on the lattice is ignored. To expand the potential applications, it is necessary to rediscover and exploit OAM. Here we propose a novel high-order OVL (HO-OVL) that combines the phase multiplication and the arbitrary mode-controllable techniques. TC on each OV in the lattice is up to 51, which generates sufficient OAM to manipulate microparticles. Thereafter, the entire lattice can be modulated to desirable arbitrary modes. Finally, yeast cells are trapped and rotated by the proposed HO-OVL. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first realization of the complex motion of microparticles via OVL. Thus, this work successfully exploits OAM on OVL, thereby revealing potential applications in particle manipulation and optical tweezers.

Abstract:
Abstract:
Shanxi ancient villages and towns have a prominent representative in the historical and cultural dwellings in the Yellow River Valley. Based on the field research, this paper summarizes the experience in the protection and exploitation of Shanxi’s ancient villages into four modes, which mainly include the Jingsheng Mode, based on the county level’s fiscal revenue, the ancient Zhangbi Model driven by the county’s economy, the Huangcheng village Model developed by its rural economy, and the Shangzhuang Village’s Protective model based mainly on investment from individuals. These protection and development modes have achieved some initial results. In contrast with these, some historical towns represented by Ancient Town of Qikou are facing adverse conditions for emphasizing the protection too much to expand themselves. This paper will come up with a brief way for development.

Abstract:
To evaluate the safety of casing string is an important task in the oil exploitation. In this paper, the casing string with complex environment is investigated and the global sensitivity analysis (SA) technique is employed to identify the influential factors on the safety. Since the damage of casing string is of different kinds, three failure modes are mainly considered in the analysis. Then, the multivariate global SA technique is employed to identify the influential factors for the three failure modes simultaneously. Due to the full-size FE analysis of casing string which involves contact analysis of tread, being computationally expensive, a simplified model with full constraints are constructed. Then, to compute the multivariate global sensitivity efficiently, the neural network which is used to surrogate the FE model is employed to perform SA.

Abstract:
In-situ exploitation of oil shale by electric heating consumes large amounts of electricity. Under the existing dispatch system, using wind power output and photovoltaic power output to support the exploitation of oil shale can promote renewable energy use, reduce the consumption of coal and other fossil fuels, and protect the environment from pollution. In this study, the characteristics of the wind power and photovoltaic power output are analyzed, and the correlation between the power outputs is evaluated using the copula function. The load of exploiting oil shale is presented. In order to match the heating load characteristics of oil shale exploitation, a particle swarm optimization algorithm is used to optimize the heating temperature of the heated well to minimize the cost. An economic analysis is conducted of five different power supply combinations, including wind power, photovoltaic power, and the existing power grid. The income ratio of the five modes is calculated using actual data of a project in Jilin province in China, and the feasibility of in-situ electric heating by wind power, photovoltaic power, and the power grid is determined. The results of this study provide useful references for decision makers to plan the power supply scheme for in-situ oil shale exploitation.

Abstract:
An overview on the current situation of economic, resource and environmental system in Ordos city shows that there exist some problems, such as wealth gap, irrational industrial structure, pressures on resources exploitation and environmental pollution. The economic development in Ordos depends on coal resource while the exploitation results in water shortage and environmental pollution. In order to realize the sustainable development of ecological economic system, a system dynamics model, which coordinates the subsystems of economy, resources and environment, is constructed and resource utilization efficiency, environmental protection and economical development are considered as systemic parameters to forecast the development trend of Ordos. Then, sustainability of four development modes are compared via setting its control parameters together with a introduced resource-environment loss rate. Finally, we make a conclusion that the Harmonious development-oriented mode makes the GDP growing moderately and the economic losses of resources and environment destruction are under control and the losses decrease gradually, realizing the benign balance between the economic benefit and ecological benefit.

The newly discovered boson was only observed in diboson final states. The measurement of the fermionic decay modes of this new particle is essential to establish its compatibility with the Standard Model Higgs boson. The two main final states accessible at the LHC are the decay into pairs of b quarks and τ leptons, both of which are experimentally challenging. In some cases, the exploitation of specific Higgs boson production modes allows to significantly increase the experimental sensitivity. One can also extend the search by looking for di-muon final states. This article gives an overview of the Higgs boson searches in these three fermionic final states at the ATLAS and CMS experiments, focusing on the most recent developments and results.

Abstract:
The rough sleeping homeless cohort is a marginalised population that has steadily increased over the past 10 years, across the United Kingdom (UK). Understanding this type of homelessness and the vulnerabilities associated with it is crucial, as it is often misconstrued due to policy ambiguity. This article examines rough sleepers as a vulnerable cohort and explores the precursors that lead to them becoming vulnerable and subsequently victimised. The key findings revealed that rough sleepers frequently endure implicit and explicit modes of exploitation. Their implicit exploitation puts them in a position of vulnerability that affects their ability to trust the public, statutory and third sector organisations. This questions their belonging in society and forces them to establish new ties and bonds, which exposes them to additional vulnerabilities. The explicit exploitation is the mere exposure of living in the streets, which puts them at greater risk of being victimised by the public, statutory bodies and criminal groups. This article concludes by offering practical recommendations of how the issue of rough sleeping can be better addressed via multi-agency, governmental, and academic work.

Based on the example of the evolution and internationalization of a Hungarian wastewater treatment company, this paper investigates various theoretical and strategic management issues. As for thetheoretical part, Hungary’s outward direct investment performance is analyzed departing from the thesis that Hungary’s present seemingly favorable OFDI performance is just a statistical artifact. It isonly organic development, based on local entrepreneurs’ capital export that can substantiate Hungary’s present OFDI position. The strategic management issues analyzed in the paper include the sequencing of internationalization; the pitfalls related to growth; modes of foreign market entry; and the choice between FDI-based internal exploitation of technological knowledge and external technology exploitation in the form of technology licensing. Abstract:
Natural gas hydrate (NGH) is a potential type of clean and efficient energy that is widely distributed in the ocean and permafrost, and most of the present researches are mainly focused on finding out efficient exploitation methods. Taking the effects of natural gas productivity and extraction time into account, one of the exploitation methods that are most commonly investigated is depressurization combined with thermal stimulation. However, few studies considered the effect of different mining methods on NGH production in vertical wells, especially aiming at the in-situ electric heating without mass injection and the comparison of production efficiency in different modes. Considering the current research status, four exploitation methods which are pure depressurization (PD), pure heating (PH), simultaneous depressurization combined with electric heating (SDH) and huff and puff (H&P) were carried out in this paper to study the influences of different production methods on NGH exploitation in a vertical well. Some parameters such as gas production (VP), water production (CP) and the energy efficiency (η) were investigated to evaluate the production performance of these methods. The results suggest that the temperature in the reactor is affected by the exploitation methods as well as the water production during exploitation. For PD, although it has no extra energy consumption, the longest production period is seen in it due to the insufficient pressure driving force. On the contrary, the NGH cannot be completely exploited only triggered by heating driving force with PH method. So there is a limited decomposition effect with it. Taking the gas production time, the VP, and the NGH dissociation rate into account, the production effects of SDH are more beneficial than other methods as the dual decomposition driving force was adopted in it. Furthermore, a reasonable heating power can result in a better production performance. On the other hand, promoted by pressure difference and discontinuous heating, H&P shows its obvious advantage in shortening production duration and improving energy efficiency, which is therefore believed to have the best commercial exploitation value among the four methods.

Abstract:
The motivations for the internationalization of firms influence the selection of foreign entry modes. In this article we use John Dunning’s (1993) classification, which distinguishes four primary motives to invest overseas – market seeking, resource seeking, strategic asset seeking and efficiency seeking –, conceptually discussing the impact of the selected foreign entry modes. The methods and strategies of multinational corporations (MNCs) are chosen in a broader framework, where internationalization motivations converge with the exploitation, or exploration, of firm-specific advantages. Our analysis is supported by a set of theoretical propositions. The results demonstrate that MNCs must develop the best possible combination of strategy-structure for their international operations, and yet conceive a casuistic analysis of each individual operation. We have therefore contributed to a better understanding of the selection of foreign market entry modes as a reflection of strategic choices or motivations.

Abstract:
An analysis of navigation and command-telemetric radio channels is used for exploitation of unmanned aviation systems are proceeds. The classification of radio channels vulnerability is tied to the modes of unmanned aerial vehicles control and their safe exploitation key terms. The criteria of flight mission feasibility and applicability of the different control modes are set in the conditions of violation at the radio channels data communication. The signs of successful flight task processing are the aircraft returning and landing to the set point, absence of distortions or rejections of preset flight trajectory, regular payload functioning. Each of these criteria can be broken when hindrances and interferences in the radio channels are present. Composition and setting functions of unmanned aerial vehicles control radio channels depend on the control mode. In-process distinguished manual control mode from earth in the zone of visual control, manual control mode via the feedback video channel, automatic control mode by an aircraft by on-board autopilot with constantly operating bilateral radio channel of telemetry and automatic control mode by the commands without permanent telemetric control. The first two modes envisage the permanent participating of the controlled from ground pilot in the control loop and due to it does not depend on suppression of satellite navigation radio channel. Suppression of radio management channels for these modes usually ends with abnormal finishing the flight. Hindrances and suppression of radio channels at automatic control modes can result in deviation of trajectory from the preset one or unsatisfactory work of the payload. Conclusions contain newest further suggestion on the unmanned aerial systems radio channels security. In the modes of visual hand control the probability of extraneous interference can be diminished by directed antennas. To increase the security at the automatic flight modes it offers to use the satellite navigation data authenticity analyzer with permanent comparison between the satellite data and calculated navigation data.

Abstract:
The update of the European Strategy for Particle Physics from 2013 states that Europe's top priority should be the exploitation of the full potential of the LHC, including the high-luminosity upgrade of the machine and detectors with a view to collecting 10 times more data than in the initial design. The plans for upgrading the ATLAS and CMS detectors so as to maintain their performance and meet the challenges of increasing luminosity are presented here. A cornerstone of the physics programme is to measure the properties of the 125 GeV Higgs boson with the highest possible precision, to test its consistency with the Standard Model. The high-luminosity data will allow precise measurements of the dominant production and decay modes, and offer the possibility of observing rare modes including Higgs boson pair production. Direct and indirect searches for additional Higgs bosons beyond the Standard Model will also continue.
