Abstract:
In this paper the standalone operation of the modified seven-level Packed U-Cell (MPUC) inverter is presented and analyzed. The MPUC inverter has two DC sources and six switches, which generate seven voltage levels at the output. Compared to cascaded H-bridge and neutral point clamp multilevel inverters, the MPUC inverter generates a higher number of voltage levels using fewer components. The experimental results of the MPUC prototype validate the appropriate operation of the multilevel inverter dealing with various load types including motor, linear, and nonlinear ones. This paper proposes a single phase modified seven level U-Cell inverter configurations in which the advanced process controller has been implemented. By using the boost operation the output of the inverter will produce higher output voltage when compared to the maximum DC source value used. To obtain maximum power the designed inverter is implemented with the photovoltaic system where the power is produced from two different PV panels which is connected to DC link by using DC-DC converters. The semiconductor switches and DC links are used to generate the inverter AC output voltages with seven

Renewable and distributed energy generation includes wind turbines, fuel cells, solar cells, and batteries. These distributed energy sources need special power converters in order to connect them to the grid and make the generated power available for public use. Solar energy is the most readily available energy source; hence, if utilized properly, it can power up both domestic and industrial loads. Solar cells produce DC power, and this should be converted to an AC source with the help of inverters. A multi-level inverter for an application is selected based on a trade-off between cost, comple

Multilevel inverters have gained importance in modern power systems during the last few years because of their high power quality with lower THD. Various topologies developed include the packed U-cell inverter and its different modified versions that have emerged as a compact and efficient solution to distributed energy systems. Most of the available harmonic mitigation techniques, that is, passive filtering and individual optimization techniques, which include GA and PSO, are susceptible to a variety of shortcomings regarding their inherent complexity and inefficiency; hence, finding an appro

This paper proposes a finite control set model predictive control (FCS-MPC) with a reduced computational burden for a single-phase grid-connected modified packed U-cell multilevel inverter (MPUC-MLI) with two control objectives: reference current tracking and switching frequency minimization. The considered competitive topology consists of two units with six active switches and two DC sources in each unit, allowing the generation of 49 levels in the output voltage, which is considered a significant reduction in the active and passive components compared to the conventional and recently develop

AbstractA high selective dual band and miniaturized electromagnetic band gap (EBG) unit cell is presented in this paper. The analysis and characterization of the new cell are explained. The modified compact EBG unit cell is based on cutting two inverted U-shaped slots inside the typical mushroom-like EBG. The modified EBG has a 70% size reduction. The dual-band functionality of the structure is confirmed by applying it in a dual-notch ultra-wideband antenna (3.1–10.6 GHz), and the notch frequencies are 5.2 and 5.8 GHz. The dual-band functionality has advantages of a highly selective bandpass b

A selective harmonic elimination method of modified packed u-cells (MPUC) inverter fed induction motor built on modified multiverse optimizer (MMVO) algorithm is put forward. The proposed method adopts the MMVO algorithm to search the optimal solution in the SHEPWM equations through the two processes of exploring the optimal solution distribution and exploiting the optimal solution within it. On this basis, the influence of the different orders of power supply harmonics eliminated selectively on the motor’s torque ripple is compared and analyzed by using the Simulink and MAXWELL.
