Full textThis thesis deals with error correcting codes for digital communications and information storage. It focuses on the study of Turbo codes built from two single-error-correcting Reed-Solomon (RS) component codes and their potential applications. As a first step, we study the distance properties of the binary image of RS codes in order to assess the asymptotic performances under maximum-likelihood soft-decision decoding. We then show that a judicious choice for the code roots may yield binary expansions with larger binary minimum distance and more efficient codes compared to classical constructions. Next, we focus on product codes built from two single-error-correcting RS codes. These codes provide high coding rates and have efficient low-complexity iterative decoding. Computing binary minimum distance of product code and simulations results show that optimizing the binary minimum distance of component codes lied to better asymptotic performances without additional decoder complexity. Afterwards, we compare different hard-decision decoding solutions of RS product codes, otherwise we show that RS Turbo codes are robust to shortening. The third part of this thesis is devoted to the association of products RS turbo codes with high order modulations for bandwidth efficient transmission. We first study the Binary Interleaved Coded Modulation (BICM). We propose then a second pragmatic coded modulation scheme achieving a wide range of spectral efficiency without changing the code and the decoder. Simulation results show that, contrary to the BICM schema, the performance of this solution exhibit a constant gap to the capacity regardless to the dimension of the signal set. Furthermore this gap decreases as we increase the code length. The last part of our work investigates the iterative decoding of product code over erasure channel. We propose two erasure decoding algorithms for linear block codes, and we compare them to other solutions proposed in the literature, with the aim of identifying the well suited algorithm to an iterative decoding of product code. The simulation results show that both RS and BCH product codes provide near-capacity performances on erasure channel

Full textNowadays communication standards have adopted different binary forward error correction codes. Turbo codes were adopted for the long term evolution standard, while binary LDPC codes were standardized for the fifth generation of mobile communication (5G) along side with the polar codes. Meanwhile, the focus of the communication community is shifted towards the requirement of beyond 5G standards. Networks for the year 2030 and beyond are expected to support novel forward-looking scenarios, such as holographic communications, autonomous vehicles, massive machine-type communications, tactile Internet… To respond to the expected requirements of new communication systems, non-binary LDPC codes were defined, and they are shown to achieve better error correcting performance than the binary LDPC codes. This performance gain was followed by a high decoding complexity, depending on the field order.Similar studies emerged in the context of turbo codes, where the non-binary turbo codes were defined, and have shown promising error correcting performance, while imposing high complexity. The aim of this thesis is to propose a new low-complex structure of non-binary turbocodes. The constituent blocks of this structure were optimized in this work, and a new low complexity decoding algorithm was proposed targeting a future hardware implementation. The obtained results are promising, where the proposed codes are shown to outperform existing binary and non-binary codes from the literature

Full textIn this thesis, we propose a design methodology for communication architectures dedicated to wireless sensor network based on impulse radio techniques for UWB communications. The impulse technique proposed in this work relies on pulse shape modulation. The architecture design approach proposed in this thesis focuses on pulses shape and their generation, which is of major interest as it constitutes the carrier of the information exchanged. The study on the choice of pulse shape led us to propose two different architectures. The first one is based on orthogonal polynomials, more especially on the Hermite polynomials, for impulse generation, and on a correlation architecture for detection and recognition of transmitted impulses. The second architecture is based on discrete wavelet packet transform and can be used according two different modes, mono and multi-users. The use of both synthesis and analysis architectures for emitter and receiver, respectively, offers a new way for digital communications and allows the wavelet transform to ensure the impulses generation on the transmitter and their recognition on the receiver. A major interest point of the proposed technique is to facilitate the multi-users access to the ultra-wideband channel and to allow simultaneous communications (many-to-one, from the sensors to the sink) or broadcast (one-to-many, from the coordinator to the nodes) but without overloading the MAC layer. Hence, the proposed architecture is part of the interface between both PHY and MAC layers, and allows to release their specific design constraints

Full textA new multilevel converter topology has been proposed in this thesis. The first part deals with harmonics spectrum optimization for a six-level three-phase inverter controlled through pre calculated switching angle. A new selective harmonic elimination method using pulse height modulation PHM strategy has been proposed. Compliance analysis is proposed to demonstrate the conformity to IEEE Std 519-1992 and IEC 61000-3-12 norms. In the second part is devoted to the proposal of a novel six-level converter topology for electrical traction application. A new six-level inverter structure has been proposed and developed, it has twelve power switches. A prototype of the structure was carried out in laboratory-based Semikron 200V MOSFET 120A valves, and controlled through a dSPACE 1103 card. Simulation and experimental validation was achieved through several tests

Full textThis work deals with subband coding of images and its application to medical images. First, we develop a large study on a coding scheme based on an octave decomposition using ID FIR filters. We compare different types of filters and we investigate the bit allocation problem as weil as the subband quantization. Main results concem the effect of filters properties like regularity and phase characteristic on the coding scheme performances. We also show that the JPEG approach and the lattice pyramidal vector quantizer are weil adapted for the quantization of the low frequency and high frequency subbands respectively. Second, we propose an adaptive subband coding scheme which is used to code medical images modalities. Results obtained on mammography are widely developed. We also extend our coding scheme to code 3D data. The frrst results obtained on 3D data coming from a real 3D scanner prototype (the Morphometer) are presented

Full textFree Space Optics (FSO) or optical wireless communication is a promising solution for very high data rate and secure point-to-point communication. However in practice, the performances of FSO systems are limited by the atmospheric turbulence. The resulting channel fading, i. E. , random fluctuations in the intensity of the received signal, can cause an important degradation in the quality of data transmission. We first consider the statistical modeling of the atmospheric turbulence and study the origin and impact of different noise sources on signal detection in an FSO system. Then, we focus on reducing the effet of atmospheric turbulence and consider exploit time diversity technique by employing channel coding and interleaving. We illustrate the performance improvement obtained by exploiting the time diversity and compare the performances of different coding solutions. We are also interested in modulation techniques that are suitable for an FSO system, in particular, the pulse position modulation (PPM) and the multi-pulse PPM (MPPM). We look for appropriate channel coding methods adapted to these modulations and propose to use a simple binary convolutional code and performe iterative soft demodulation and channel decoding at the receiver. We show that the proposed scheme makes a good compromise between complexity and performance

Full textThis thesis proposes a study of the stability of the Charge-Pump Phase Locked Loop (CP-PLL). Performances of the transient response of this circuit explains its large use in industrial design. Although the CP-PLL is an hybrid circuit (discrete time part coexists with continuous time parts), signals are represented and analysed by linear models. As there is no others results, stability limits of these linear models are steel used in the industry. Non-linear models can be found in the literature, these models offer high precision results but no analysis tool involving these non-linear models has been proposed. Using hybrid formalism to rewrite non-linear models, we can apply new results on hybrid stability to achieve this first stability proof based on exact waveforms. A piece-wise non-linear model of the CP-PLL can be studied by linearising each non-linear vector field around the fixed point of interest. A theorem is proposed to deduce the local stability of the non-linear system from its linearisation. Stability test is expressed by linear matrix inequalities (LMI). Using the S-procedure to relax conditions in well-chosen region we reduce drastically the conservatism of the sufficient proof. By this way we propose a new stability condition which is less restrictive than linear systems ones. Experimental results tend to confirm this new stability frontier

Full textThe work presented in this thesis talk about the optimization of the structure and the control of power emulating systems, called Actives Loads. In order to display very good dynamic performances as well as a very great robustness, these Active Loads use a Resonant Current Controller (RCC) and a Resonant Voltage Controller (RVC). These processes are self-oscillating regulators and are thus by nature strongly non-linear. Also, for an optimal application of these proceses to the Active Loads, the first point presented in this thesis is the modelization of these regulators and the identification of the possible problems, due to their non-linearities. It is then appeared that synchronization phenomena and switching frequency instability can appear if some conditions are not well respected. The second point of this work is the generalization of these modulation processes to any systems, based on a sliding mode control. So, a new structure of Resonant Voltage Controller is proposed, more efficient for the Active Load applications. The experimental results obtained on an experimental prototype show the very great performances of this new process, thus contributing to the improvement of the quality and the precision of old and new generations of Active Loads

Full textHigh energy ultrashort pulses are highly desirable for many applications. In thismanuscript, we described several methods for pulse duration reduction at high energy. A postcompressionsystem, using SPM-NER in a fused silica plate, has firstly provided 16 fs-5mJpulses, from 50 fs pulses. In a second part, we present a new efficient post compressiontechnique, achieved through ionization of gas in a capillary. With this technique, ultrashortand high energy pulses have been reached (11 fs-13 mJ). Results from modeling done atCEA/SPAM, in good agreement with the experimental ones, have been used to understanddeeply all the involved mechanisms. In order to get even shorter pulses, it is incontrovertibleto work on the laser chain, in front of the post-compression systems. In general, due tospectral gain narrowing in Ti:Saphir laser chain, the pulse duration is limited to 30 fs. Thiseffect, investigated in this thesis, has been compensated by modulating the spectral losses(filter) in the pre-amplifier (regenerative cavity), localized at the gain curve maximum. Pulseduration in the order of 20 fs has been obtained. This study has been completed with a pulseamplification model that shows very good agreement with the experimental measurements. The possibility to combine these processes should generate, in the short term, high energy (10mJ) sub-10 fs laser pulses to produce isolated XUV attosecond pulses

Full textOver the past few years, consumer wireless communication systems have been implemented using silicon technology (BiCMOS, CMOS). Thanks to the higher operating frequency range of its active components (MOSFET, Heterojunction Bipolar Transistors), silicon technologies have replaced Ill-V technology in wireless communication circuits. Ultra Wideband technologies, used for high power military radars, were recently extended to consumer applications and normalized over the frequency range from 3 to 10 GHz in the United States of America. Within this range, receiver and transmitter architectures are complex. Transposition of a baseband UWB signal at 60 GHz, more precisely the 59-62 GHz band, offers many advantages, such as a simpler system architecture and a reduced die area. SiGe BiCMOS 0.13 µm silicon transistors exhibit a cut-off frequency and a maximum oscillation frequency of 160 GHz. We have designed and measured all the different millimeter circuits of the transceiver such as the oscillator, switch, pulse generator, medium power amplifier, low noise amplifier and detector. The results obtained on these blocks are in agreement with the system specifications we had established. A fully integrated transmitter and a fully integrated receiver circuits were designed and realized. The results demonstrate the capability of silicon technologies for the implementation of new communication systems in the millimeter wave range

Full textIn the power electronics field, the adjustable speed drives is a growing application for electric motors control. The most common conversion solution is to connect in series two static converters and perform a double conversion (AC/DC/AC). Another solution, hardly proposed by industry, uses a direct AC/AC conversion. This thesis aims to make a direct conversion solutions and matrix converters and ‘‘two stage’’ matrix converters modulation strategies synthesis for the purpose to control three-phase electric motor with a three phase input network. This synthesis has developed a generalized scalar modulation, combined with a carrier wave modulator, equivalent to the space vector modulation and applied to matrix converters and the ‘‘two stage’’ matrix converters. Some attention has been done to reduced the switching number during the modulation period. The generalization allows to propose a modified modulation which reduces the losses and improves the electromagnetic performance compared to the traditional modulations used for these kind of converters. The practical constraint (switches control, protection system and filtering) are discussed and has been used to develop a laboratory prototype. The modulations strategies have been implemented experimentally and validate the theoretical study. Finally, a direct function mode with an equal frequency between the input and output network is proposed, without modulation and therefore low losses. In the last part, a particular operation mode is then introduced, permitting the transient operation between the modulated conventional mode to the direct mode without modulation

Full textThe increasing demand of user’s requirements is one of the main reasons in technical progress and development of modern wireless communication systems. Thus, since 2G and beyond, there have been many changes, especially, the switch from the mono carrier to the multi-carrier (MC), introduced for the Down-Link (DL) 4G transmission. Indeed, the predo- minant idea behind introducing MC waveforms (WF) is to get rid of the propagation channel effects, by relaxing the equalization process through the transmission of the data symbols over flat fading sub-channels or sub-carriers. Furthermore, the widely adopted MC WF is the ortho- gonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), which became very popular and widely used in many wireless standards like long term evolution (LTE)- Advanced (LTE-A) andWi-Fi. The standardization of OFDM, for these applications and also for some others, is related to the ad- vantages shown by this MC WF. One of these advantages is its simple implementation through the use of the inverse fast Fourier transform (IFFT) at the transmitter side, and a FFT at the receiver side. Also, OFDM introduces a cyclic prefix (CP), making the transmission free from inter-symbol-interference (ISI).Despite the large success of the OFDM WF, this technique suffers from the loss of spec- tral efficiency due to the use of the CP. Besides, it suffers from bad frequency localization due the use of a rectangular prototype filter. These OFDM drawbacks, have motivated researchers to design new MC WF, with better frequency domain localization, better robustness to user’s synchronism, while keeping moderate implementation complexity. In this context, high num- ber of post-OFDM MC WF have been proposed and implemented to meet 5G scenarios and requirements in a flexible manner. Therefore, the offset-quadratureamplitudemodulation-based filter-bankmulti-carrier(FBMC- OQAM) has been proposed as an alternative to overcome some drawbacks of the OFDM WF. Indeed, FBMC-OQAM is characterized by owning one of the best frequency localiza- tion among all the post-OFDM WFs, thanks to its prototype filter (Phydyas), providing then the best performance in supporting asynchronous and mixed numerologies transmissions. Be- sides, it offers high spectrum efficiency since it avoids the use of CP and large guard bands. Furthermore, the orthogonality in real domain is guaranteed thanks to the use of the OQAM modulation. However, this orthogonality is lost under frequency selective channels which re- quires advanced equalization techniques. In this context, the main objective of this thesis is to study different types of equalization applied on FBMC-OQAM system. Since the modulation used in the FBMC-OQAM system can be seen as the transmission of two M−PAM modulations over one single carrier and since the widely linear processing outperforms the classical one for M−PAM modulation, we will focus on the advantages of using the widely linear processing over FBMC-OQAM system. Ad- ditionally, and based on the cyclo-stationarity of the FBMC-OQAM signal, we have proposed an advanced equalization structure based on FRESH processing that have been applied in to a FBMC-OQAM system using different numerologies
