Full textThis thesis was written in the framework of french theories especially mauss'and dumont" it is concerned with the totality of society which takes the form of a hierarchy of vallues, dealing with encompassments, hierarchical oppositions, chaque of level and inversions. Brother-sister relation is dominant both when expressed in terms of same sexe (eb-yb; ez-yz) and in terms of opposite sexe (b and z), in the first case, eb encompasses the others, while in the second, b represents the totality. Intermariage shows that bz relation becomes a crossing of relations and mouvements which composes kinship and society. Thoughter mariage, a sister leaves her brother's group : she is a "true" in her husband's house ; meanwhile she is an "outsider" in her father's house, through his mariage, a brother is classified as an "outsideer" in his wb's house; meanwhile he is a "true" in his father's house. It means that bz relation is both structured by separation and union. The rituals use the same kinship classes and structures to establish the relation between the living and the dead, the "true" class represents the totality and brings offerings to the dead while the class "outsider" prepares the ritual, rithual in general. And mariage in particular show that bz are separated by mariage and unified by ritual in order to reconfirm the totality of the society. "outsider's" and "true's" ritual services give meaning to the bz relation as a crossing and a locus inthe nuculu's ideology, they are at a crossing-point between the vertical father's line which transfers the group's name and the oblique mb's line which transfers the ancestral life, defined as ancestrality (totality). Full textThis monograph describes the interrelationship between the Geba Bupolo people of Buru Island in the Moluccas (Eastern Indonesia) and their living environment. The data were collected from the centre of this island, which is the sites of the primordial village Fenafafan of Geba Bupolo people, Mount Date and the Lake Rana Waekolo. The first part of this study provides descriptions of Buru Island, human and physical influences on the Geba Bupolo people, the arrival of Europeans, the classification of the Geba Bupolo, and research methodology. The second part is focused on the data collected in villages of Buru Island that allow the analyzes of the society and its territory, the organization of time and space, the life stages of individuals and the associated rituals, as well as the village and houses. The third part is dedicated on description of different practices of exploitation and management of the environment. The agricultural practices and the rituals are described in details, including hunting, harvesting and fishing, which play a very important role in the Geba Bupolo life, as well as culinary practices and the organization of the meals. Finally, the utilization of plants by the Geba Bupolo people and the exploitation of the cajuput tree (Melaleuca leucadendron L) are reviewed. The conclusion discusses the future of the Geba Bupolo people, who are facing the outside world that remains strange to them
