In recent years, the air pollution is becoming more and more serious, which not only causes the decrease of the visibility, but also affects the human health. As the most important pollutant particulate matter, remote sensing satellite measurements have been widely used to estimate PM2.5 concentration on the ground. Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) is one of the instruments which is taken in the National Polar-orbiting Partnership (NPP) satellite. In this study, VIIRS was used to retrieve aerosol optical depth (AOD) with the way of dark pixels, and several other major meteorol

Composition and size distribution of atmospheric aerosols from Xi'an city (~400 m, altitude) in inland China during the spring of 2009 including a massive dust event on 24 April were measured and compared with a parallel measurement at the summit (2060 m, altitude) of Mt. Hua, an alpine site nearby Xi'an. EC, OC and major ions in the city were 2–22 times higher than those on the mountaintop during the whole sampling period. Sulfate was the highest species in the nonevent time in Xi'an and Mt. Hua, followed by nitrate, OC and NH4+. In contrast, OC was the most abundant in the event at

Short-term metro passenger flow prediction plays a great role in traffic planning and management, and it is an important prerequisite for achieving intelligent transportation. So, a novel hybrid Support Vector Regression (SVR) model based on Twice Clustering (TC) is proposed for short-term metro passenger flow prediction. The training sets and test sets are generated by TC with respect to values of passenger flow in different time periods to improve the prediction accuracy. The traditional widely used Chinese Kang heating system has been gradually becoming obsolete, due to the coal or wood burning emission that causes poor indoor air quality. In the interest to preserve the rural life, this study evaluated the performance of a retrofitted traditional Kang heating system with the use of alternative clean energy in a rural-dwelling in Xi'an, China. An air source heat pump (ASHP) was applied to drive the heating bed system, and an indoor stack effect tunnel was incorporated to induce the stack effect and to enhance the heating efficiency. A novel drawing method for geological sketch has been introduced using multiview photos in this process. The images of tunnel faces are taken from multiple angles, and every two pictures have overlaps. By measuring the distance between the camera and the tunnel face using a laser range finder, the photographic scale of each photo can be confirmed. SpeededUp Robust Features (SURF) is a good practice

Applying a master oscillator – power amplifier configuration, an output power of 120.5 W with a slope efficiency of 58.2% was demonstrated.
