Abstract:
Soil moisture is one of the contributing factors that accelerates soil erosion and landslide events due to the increase in pore pressure which eventually reduces the soil strength. For landslide prediction and monitoring purposes, large-scale measurement involves estimating the soil moisture. However, estimation of soil moisture usually involves point-based measurements at a particular site and time, which is difficult to capture the spatial and temporal soil moisture dynamics. The present paper represents an attempt to study the Climatic Classification of Pudukkottai District, Tamil Nadu by using Geographical Information Systems (GIS). Pudukkottai district is one of the drought prone areas of Tamil Nadu and it has a long history of rainfall fluctuations of varying lengths and intensities. The aridity index ranges from 28% to 75% and the average is 59% and the mean annual moisture index of the study area is 40%. The entire study area is under megathermal regime of climate (A 4-7) conforming to the tropical pattern. Based on moisture index, seasonal variation of effec

The Inner Mongolia reach of the Yellow River Basin (IM-YRB) is a typical dryland with pervasive vegetation restoration through the actions of the ecological projects that have been conducted in recent years. However, how climate changes and human activities, such as land use and land cover (LULC) changes, jointly impact vegetation variations in this region remains poorly understood.
