The paraffin–naphthenic fractions (with boiling points below 310°C) prepared from three high-viscosity naphthenic crude oils, classified as types B1 and B2 (according to Petrov’s classification), were subjected to thiocarbamide complexation. The molecular composition of polycyclic hydrocarbon biomarkers and C11–C13 adamantanes in the oil samples suggested a predominantly marine genotype of the precursor organic matter (OM). The molecular composition also suggested source rocks of a clayey type. Nonetheless, the biomarkers detected in one sample indicated some contribution of terrigenous compon

Of particular interest was the combination of ring distortion effects arising from both the chlorine substituent and the nitrogen heteratom. The results tend to indicate a more complicated system than that of purely substituent effects, an area already well documented. One of the interestin

Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) have been compared to natural antibodies in that they can specifically bind target compounds in a similar way that antibodies specifically bind to an antigen. The attraction of the MIPs technology is the ease of creating binding elements which are relatively cheap compared with the process of isolating natural antibodies. In this research monoterpenes, such as α-terpineol, were chosen to be the model compounds for investigating the molecular imprinting of small, poorly functionalised organic compounds. Abstract:
The proposed research was directed at determining the activation/binding domains and gene regulation of the PBAN-R’s thereby providing information for the design and screening of potential PBAN-R-blockers and to indicate possible ways of preventing the process from proceeding to its completion. Our specific aims included: (1) The identification of the PBAN-R binding domain by a combination of: (a) in silico modeling studies for identifying specific amino-acid side chains that are likely to be involved in binding PBAN with the receptor and; (b) bioassays to verify the modeling studies using mut

Abstract:
Research into the fate of pharmaceutical compounds (PCs) in the environment has focused on aspects of removal efficiency during sewage treatment, degradation in surface water and accumulation in soils and sediments. However, very little information is available on the binding interactions of pharmaceuticals with dissolved organic matter (DOM) originating from wastewater treatment. Such interactions can significantly affect the transport potential of PCs in soils by altering compound affinity for soil particle surfaces. Our primary hypothesis is that the transport potential of PCs in soils is s
