Abstract:
This research investigates the paradigm of parody in Mongolian political art through exploring its connection with the mythological figure of the manggus. As it has emerged in the Mongolian visual art of parody, the manggus figure incarnates various fears. Fundamental to this exegesis is researching the national sensibility for using parody in Mongolian art as a response to fear and as a mode of resistance-this is a new investigation in academic scholarship into Mongol identity and art.

Curtet, Johanni. "La transmission du höömij, un art du timbre vocal : ethnomusicologie et histoire du chant diphonique mongol." Phd thesis, Université Rennes 2, 2013. http://tel.archives-ouvertes.fr/tel-00949955.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Between 1873 and 1945 Japan and Mongolia had a complex and important relationship that has been largely overlooked in post-war studies of Japan’s imperial era. In fact, Japanese-Mongolian relations in the modern period provide a rich field of enquiry into the nature of Japanese imperialism as well as further evidence of the complexity of Japan’s relationships with other Asian countries in the decades before 1945. This thesis examines the relationship from the Japanese perspective, drawing on a diverse range of contemporary materials, both official and unofficial, including military documents, government reports, travel guides and academic works, many of which have been neglected in earlier studies. In previous analyses, the strategic dimension has been seen as overwhelming and Mongolia has often been regarded as merely a minor addendum to Japan’s relationship with Manchuria. In fact, however, Japan’s connection with Mongolia itself was a crucial part of its interaction with the Chinese continent from the 1870s to 1945. Though undeniably coveted for strategic reasons, Mongolia also offered unparalleled opportunities for the elaboration of all the major aspects of the discourses that made up Japan’s evolving claim to solidarity with and leadership of Asia. It also functioned as a showcase for Japan’s supposedly benevolent intentions towards Asia. In some ways, moreover, the relationship with Mongolia was presented as distinctive, particularly because of the common faith in Buddhism and a supposedly shared ancestry in ethnic terms. In turn, the military, political, ideological and cultural opportunities apparently provided by Mongolia account for the wide range of groups and individuals in Japan that developed Mongolian connections and for the often close relations between these groups and individuals on the one hand, and the most powerful institutions of the Japanese state on the other.

Baatarjav, Enkhbat. "A model for designing a new telecommunication system in Mongolia." Thesis, University of North Texas, 2001. https://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc2768/.

Full text
Abstract:
The objective of this research is to design, and determine the feasibility of, a telecommunication system for the city of Erdenet, Mongolia. The Mongolian Telecommunication Company, Telecommunication Company of Erdenet city, and the National Statistical Office of Mongolia provided the data required for telecommunication forecasting of Erdenet. The literature review and analysis of the telecommunication forecasting indicate the need for a model of a new Telecommunication system in Erdenet, Mongolia. The model, as indicated, should become a useful example for planning and updating the telecommunication system in Mongolia. The design of a proposed telecommunication network involves the following considerations: analyzing and forecasting telephone traffic, calculating the required number of channels, determining exchange locations, traffic matrix, and establishing a basic hierarchical structure.

Lin, Pei-Chi. "A Performance Guide to Se Enkhbayar's Choral Tone Poem Önchin Botog (A Lonely Baby Camel) for SATB Soloists and SATB Chorus (with Divisions) A Cappella." Thesis, University of North Texas, 2018. https://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc1157562/.

Full text
Abstract:
Se Enkhbayar (b. 1956) is one of the most important contemporary Mongolian composers in China. His choral tone poem, Önchin Botog, integrates the traditional Mongolian musical elements Urtiin Duu (long song) and Khöömii (throat singing) with modern choral music and is one of the most representative works in the genre of modern Mongolian choral music. The purpose of this study is to provide a performance guidance for non-Mongolian musicians on Se Enkhbayar's work, Önchin Botog, by presenting his biographical and cultural backgrounds, discussing the use of traditional Mongolian singing styles, special rhythmic patterns (horse-step rhythm) and Chinese pentatonic scales. For conductors, this guide can shorten preparation time by providing musical analysis for artistic interpretation and practical points for sound effect creation. For solo singers, this guide will enable a Bel Canto singer to sing Urtiin Duu in Mongolian singing style. For Khöömii singers, this guide provides supplementary practical suggestions.

Wainwright, Alan John. "Volcanostratigraphic framework and magmatic evolution of the Oyu Tolgoi porphyry Cu-Au district, South Mongolia." Thesis, University of British Columbia, 2008. http://hdl.handle.net/2429/2760.

Full text
Abstract:
The super-giant Oyu Tolgoi porphyry copper-gold deposits in the South Gobi desert, Mongolia, consist of multiple discrete porphyry centers aligned within a north-northeast trending, >6.5 km long, arc-transverse mineralized corridor. The porphyries are linked to a tectono-magmatic event at ~372 Ma within a Devonian to Carboniferous volcanic arc, and U-Pb (zircon) geochronology records magmatic activity from ~390 Ma to ~320 Ma. The Oyu Tolgoi district underwent at least three discrete periods of syn- to post-mineral shortening and there is evidence for at least three unconformities within the Paleozoic sequence. Although the deposits were formed in an active orogenic environment characterized by rapid uplift, their preservation is a reflection of climactic effects as well insulation from erosion by rapid burial under mass-wasted and pyroclastic material in the volcaniclastic apron of late-mineral dacitic volcanoes. The porphyry copper-gold deposits are spatially and temporally related to medium- to high-K calc-alkaline quartz monzodiorite (~372 Ma) and granodiorite (~366 Ma) intrusive phases that comprise the Late Devonian Oyu Tolgoi Igneous Complex (OTIC). Adakite-like wholerock compositions as well as zircon grains with high CeN/CeN*, EuN/EuN* and Yb/Gd in the sample populations from syn- and late-mineral porphyry intrusions are different from younger intrusions that are not related to porphyry Cu-Au deposit formation. Moreover, mixed zircon populations within OTIC intrusions indicate that efficient assimilation of material from different host rocks by a convecting magma chamber occurred. Mafic to intermediate volcanic units evolved from tholeiitic to calc-alkaline compositions, which is interpreted to be a reflection of marine arc maturation and thickening. Felsic rock suites are dominantly high-K calc-alkaline, regardless of age. Nd-isotopic geochemistry from all suites is consistent with magma derivation from depleted mantle in an intra-oceanic volcanic arc and lead isotopic compositions indicate that the sulfides in the porphyry Cu-Au deposits are genetically linked to the Late Devonian magmas. Magma mixing, adakite-like magmatism and rapid uplift and erosion in a juvenile marine arc setting differentiate the ore-stage geologic environment at Oyu Tolgoi from other settings in active and fossil volcanic arcs.

Zhang, Ke. "A Performance Guide to "The Sound of the Prairie Land (Caoyuan Zhige) for Viola and Piano" by Qingwu Guan." Thesis, University of North Texas, 2020. https://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc1707402/.

Full text
Abstract:
The Sound of the Prairie Land (Caoyuan Zhige) for viola and piano by the Chinese composer Qingwu Guan (b. 1938) has become one of the most popular works in the growing Chinese repertoire for viola. It also exists in another version for viola and viola ensemble, arranged by the Chinese violist Wing Ho, who also expanded the viola part with the composer's approval. The pentatonic work was highly influenced by the landscape and music of Inner Mongolia, a province of China next to the Mongolian border, and incorporates the music of an ode by the Inner Mongolian composer Alatengaole (1942–2011) called Sincere Wishes for a Long Life to Chairman Mao. Guan remains a strong supporter of Mao, the first chairman of the Chinese Communist Party. The work makes use of some performance techniques of the Inner Mongolian two-stringed fiddle called morin khuur, which has a similar tone to the viola: three kinds of slides, grace notes, imitations of a horse's neigh, and the representation of horses galloping across the prairie. The background of the work, understanding of the musical structure, and information about morin khuur techniques presented in this dissertation should aid performers in interpreting the work more authentically.

O'Sullivan, Rebecca. "Landscape and connections : petroglyphs of the Altai in the 2nd and 1st Millennium BCE." Thesis, University of Oxford, 2017. http://ora.ox.ac.uk/objects/uuid:0171a563-274b-4b02-9577-4c31dfe9f388.

Abstract:
This thesis presents a holistic study of connections in the Altai Mountains of the eastern Eurasian Steppe, as shown by rock-art. Currently divided by four countries, pecked images (petroglyphs) and painted images from the 2nd-1st millennium BCE have been subjected to very separate research traditions, exacerbated by language barriers. This thesis focusses on the entire Altai Mountain range as a study area, integrating research published in Chinese and Russian, with supplementary literature in Kazakh and Mongolian consulted. To demonstrate the potential for connectivity and, consequently, movement, a map of accessibility was generated, showing that there are various optimal routes for movement throughout the Altai. The locations of rock-art sites relative to these routes indicate that movement was a key feature contributing to the creation of rock-art. Examining topographic features in the vicinity of rock-art sites of three regions (Mongolia, Russia, PRC) highlighted an association between watercourses and sites, whilst studying the micro-landscape within panels found that the creators of rock-art were not representing the tangible spatial relationship of figures to the landscape. More broadly, similarities between motifs at rock-art sites, as well as on portable art, demonstrate that the people making them, regardless of whether they were aware of it or not, were part of a wider understanding of how to depict subjects. Evidence of this understanding can be found even in regions with very different cultural backgrounds to the Steppe, such as the Chinese Central Plains, demonstrating that groups outside of the Steppe were aware of and using this way of representing. By combining analysis of motifs with that of the landscape, this thesis demonstrates that rock-art as a practice was inherently linked with to the landscape, whereas content and style are more indicative of a wide-ranging belief system amongst Steppe pastoralists, which was expressed aesthetically.

Abstract:
碩士<br>中國文化大學<br>國際企業管理學系<br>102<br>This paper aims to find a relationship between stock return and factors by using a multi factor model and identify the risk factors of the coal mining companies using APT. The data used in this paper consists of four stocks of Mongolian coal companies, market index of Mongolia, coal and oil price, interest rate and exchange rate. Data for variables span over the period from 2009 to 2013 and used multi regression analysis and principal component analysis. An understanding of the relationship between stock return and factors is an important factor in investment decision. If investors know about the company risk factors, they can evaluate the required rate of return of the stock. The results showed the market return was the most significant factor comparing to the other factors. Market return had a significant relationship with the stock returns for all of four coal companies. The relationship between coal price and stock return was insignificant. Also we found that interest rate and coal price were the most risky factors among the other risk factors.

Abstract:
碩士<br>銘傳大學<br>應用中國文學系碩士班<br>102<br>In recent years, Taiwanese government has been encouraging the internationalization of the higher education and many universities in Taiwan offer international programs to allow foreign student to study in Taiwan in a whole English environment. With the support of Taiwanese Education Center in Mongolia, the number of Mongolian students studying in Taiwan has increased year by year. As the overall evaluation towards the quality of Taiwanese education is relatively good among Mongolian people, many students and their parents are interestedin studying in Taiwan or sending their children to pursue education in Taiwan. The English-taught degree programs in Taiwan has become one of the ideal options for the Mongolian students who don’t have Chinese learning background and most of those students expect to improve their English and Chinese language abilities at the same time pursuing a degree. This study is aimed at understanding the Chinese learning motivations of Mongolian students who are participating in the English-taught programs in Taiwan, as well as to discuss about the Chinese learning situations of the students to investigate the influence of English-taught programs on their Chinese learning motivation, through the analysis of existing data and by conducting a survey among the students. First of all, as the basis for the research paper, the theories related to the learning motivation, and the previously conducted researches related to the learning motivation as well as related to the Chinese learning situations of Mongolian students in Taiwan are discussed in the literature review section. Then, the academic relations between Mongolia and Taiwan, the situation of Mongolian students in Taiwan and the English-taught programs offered by Taiwanese universities are introduced furthermore. The research has chosen Ming Chuan University, the university which has the longest history and the richest experience among Taiwanese universities in terms of accepting Mongolian students as well as offering English-taught programs, as a focus of the study and the Mongolian students who are enrolled in English–taught programs of the university,as a target. Therefore, as a result of the survey findings, the situations of Chinese learning motivations and the actual Chinese learning practices of the Mongolian students are revealed and discussed as a conclusion, which would provide certain suggestions to the Chinese teaching units and reference for further studies.
