Abstract:
The purpose of the article is to theoretically substantiate the concept of a graduate’s satisfaction profile with educational programs, which includes a number of parameters. This concept is proposed to be introduced in connection with monitoring the satisfaction of university graduates with educational programs. The methodology for measuring graduate satisfaction is based on the use of quantitative (questionnaires, the results of which are processed in SPSS) and qualitative (interviewing) methods. Graduates’ satisfaction with the quality of higher education is considered as a subjective assessment of the quality of their education. The proposed and tested methodology can become the basis for the development of a university system for monitoring the satisfaction of university graduates with educational programs and a university quality management system.

Abstract:
The monitoring of graduates from Professional and Technological Education - EPT is of utmost importance to assess whether the "graduate profile" envisaged in the pedagogical projects of the courses, based on the evaluation of the path taken by former students after completing their courses, has been achieved. Scientific productions dedicated to the study of this theme address topics that encompass the reality and aspirations of graduates regarding their insertion into the labor market, the continuation of their studies, as well as the implementation and evaluation of public policies in this modality. Beyond recognizing the relevance of this monitoring, it is urgent to also acknowledge that its achievement brings several difficulties for the managers of institutions who recognize its importance but understand it as a medium to long-term action that requires considerable planning and allocation of resources and personnel that these institutions, as a rule, do not have. This article aims, in light of works addressing the challenges of monitoring graduates and field research conducted within the scope of the Graduate Program in Professional and Technological Education - ProfEPT and which originates from it, to present a tool aimed at directors and coordinators of technical course programs, with the purpose of enabling the automation of procedures inherent to the monitoring of EPT graduates, allowing for bulk work, avoiding the need for individual approaches, and assisting them in the process of seeking information from graduates, as well as in the analysis, comparison, and archiving of this information.

Abstract:
The advantages and problems of job search and employment methods for graduates of higher educational institutions have been studied. Author’s monitoring has shown that recently every third graduate is a certified unemployed. In modern socio-economic conditions, graduates of higher schools find themselves disoriented in the labor market. 60% work outside their specialty for reasons: 35.7% — it is difficult to find a job; 35.7% — low pay; 17.9% — got a more interesting job; 3.6% — do not like the specialty they received; 7.1% — other reasons. The factors for this are: imbalance of the labor market and the market of educational services; dissatisfaction of employers with the quality of professional education of graduates of educational institutions; low level of interest of educational institutions in the employment of graduates; inflated self-esteem of graduates of their professional level. The author’s monitoring made it possible to identify the most effective methods of employment and determine measures to improve them.

Abstract:
How do European Arts and Humanities (A&H) graduates contribute to their economies and societies? This paper aims to answer this challenging research question by analysing data from the 2018 pilot Eurograduate survey of graduates. The article explores the monitoring of employment dynamics and considers the labour market outcomes of A&H graduates compared to other graduate groups. Our analysis enables an understanding of the utilisation of A&H graduates’ knowledge and skills in the current employment market (job-qualification match) and more specifically, their contribution to legal, social and cultural occupations. The dataset variables enable an exploration of the multiple contributions made by A&H graduates to other aspects of contemporary society. Specifically, we examine graduates’ volunteering activity during and after their degree, alongside other forms of civic engagement, including political and social action. The findings contribute to the broader debate on the value and impact of A&H degrees beyond measurements of graduate earnings.

Abstract:
Change management in the field of training and certification of academic personnel implies a reliable information support in the form of statistical and sociological data that enable the monitoring of the effectiveness of the institution of doctoral education. The current system for monitoring the activities of doctoral schools does not fully meet these requirements, thus making it difficult to assess objectively the implementation of doctoral education’s main function – the training of researchers and faculty for higher education. The article attempts to fill this information lacuna by presenting an analysis of the database created by the authors which contains information about the defense of dissertations and research results of PhD students who graduated in 2013 from nine Russian universities over the five-year period after their graduation (N = 1178). Information on the results of each graduate’s research activities was obtained from open sources: the portal of the Higher Attestation Commission, the electronic catalog of the Russian State Library, Scopus and eLibrary.ru databases, as well as the database of the Industrial Property Institute. As a result of our research, it was established that the actual timeframe of doctoral students’ advancement to their academic degree is determined by discipline-related factors. In the sample as a whole, the share of persons who defended their dissertations was 45% of the total number of graduates, which is 1.7 times higher than the share of graduates who defended their dissertations in the course of their studies at the doctoral school. Approximately 90% of graduates defend their dissertations no later than two years after graduation from the doctoral school. The quantitative data of doctoral school graduates’ retention in the academic field are given, with the breakdown by discipline. On average, more than 60% of Candidate of Sciences degree holders continue their careers in academic positions. The obtained data on Russian doctoral school graduates are in good agreement with the results of monitoring doctoral programs’ graduates in Europe and the USA. The results of this work make it possible to take a fresh look at the methodology for diagnosing the effectiveness of university doctoral schools.

Abstract:
Acupuncture is a therapeutic clinical medical model, a branch of Traditional Chinese Medicine, in which filiform metal needles are used on the surface of the body to balance, prevent, recover and rehabilitate the individual according to NOM - 017 - SSA3 - 2012. In In recent years, in addition to unemployment, a series of distortions have appeared in the labor market for professionals. This work seeks to contribute to the analysis of said market using data from a survey of graduates and employers of said graduates, from a state public university in Mexico. From them, an indicator of relevance in the labor market is designed. The results show that a significant proportion of professionals work in inadequate conditions and that there is great heterogeneity in terms of the situation of said market . OBJECTIVE: To advance in the study of this dimension of relevance by analyzing the labor market for professionals through the integration of a series of characteristics, which in the previously reviewed studies were reflected separately, so that a more complete knowledge of how professionals are inserted into said market and the opinion of their employers, using data from a survey of graduates and employers. METHODOLOGY. Job placement surveys: carried out within the second and fifth year after graduation, designed to characterize the process of job placement, completion of studies and institutional satisfaction. RESULTS A survey was conducted of 15 employers of graduates of the Human and Rehabilitative Acupuncture degree, from the centers that have been hiring LAHR graduates for 10 years, while the response recently refers to a hiring period of less than one year. Our surveyed employers take 95% of academic preparation as a fundamental part of hiring a LAHR graduate. Employers need graduates to have theoretical and practical knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine, followed by knowledge of physical means focused on rehabilitation. Conclusions: According to the respondents, we observed the great need to have an agenda for the graduate clinics, to have a greater number of samples and standardize the suggestion

4,350 students were enrolled in a BA and 1,481 pursued a Master’s programme in political science in Austria in 2016. However, only a small number of degree holders embark on an academic career; many more move on to jobs in the public or private sector. In this contribution we focus on the impact of teaching political science and the contribution that political science graduates make to society. The article draws on data from the Graduate Monitoring which evaluates graduates’ progress in the labour market, and semi-structured interviews with political science graduates. Increasing knowledge about students’ career paths will help to improve curricula and contribute to a better understanding of the theories, methods and instruments that graduates will apply in their careers.

Abstract:
This paper is aimed at evaluating the characteristics of personal identification, professional status, academic qualification and expectations about the institution of Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) graduates, especially concerning undergraduate and graduate courses. In this regard, the topic is situated in the context of the national examination of higher education institutions in the light of the theoretical basis adopted in this research and describes the University’s experience of monitoring the progress of graduates and the activities conducted within the scope of its institutional evaluation program, particularly as to its compliance with the legal provisions in the National System for Higher Education Evaluation. With the aim of attributing a meaning to the use of permanent mechanisms for monitoring the progress of graduates, the methodology adopted in the investigation enabled the organization and the statistical treatment of data collected by means of a research tool called the Graduates’ Portal, which was made available on the institution’s website in September 2004. The indicators obtained from the answers of the approximately 7,000 respondents made it possible to confirm the hypotheses established in the research and its related goals, such as the fact that graduates attach great importance to the knowledge acquired during the course for carrying out their professional activities, the fact that there are different profiles of graduates in undergraduate and graduate courses, the fact that a historical analysis is the key to understanding the evolution of unemployment, women’s attendance at undergraduate and graduate courses, and the type of student dedication during the course. The analysis, interpretation and findings, which were made possible by a large variety and quantity of results, represent valuable information for improving the quality of institutional policies related to education as a whole by establishing a communication channel between the UFRGS and graduates in order to, among other purposes, find out whether graduates are working in their academic field or unemployed, whether or not they are satisfied with the content acquired for practicing their profession and, above all, whether or not the University performs its mission to provide society with a socially valid education program and production of knowledge, thereby forming citizens who are trained to meet the requirements of the job market.

Because there is no longer an annual evaluation by CAPES, it was felt necessary to draw up an action plan to monitor these programs and support them in improving their excellencies, thinking goals and guidelines to be established for this consolidation. The project begins with the study of the outcome of the program in the last assessment, diagnosing the strengths and weaknesses. A schedule of visits to the program is designed to expose this intent and plan specific actions. Heckroodt, Steyn. "A study for an expanded conceptual scanning framework and the impact on current business environment scanning : a systems thinking approach." Thesis, Stellenbosch : Stellenbosch University, 2012. http://hdl.handle.net/10019.1/71671.

Abstract:
Thesis (PhD)--Stellenbosch University, 2012.<br>ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The study addresses the question of whether there is a need for an expanded conceptual scanning framework that could benefit present-day business organisations. It addresses this question through the conceptualisation of such a framework, based on findings from the literature review executed during the secondary research phase of the study. Through the primary research phase, an attempt is made to reach conclusions pertaining to the research question. The extent to which businesses perform scanning and related activities as per the findings of the literature review is investigated by means of a Likert scale questionnaire presented to a sample of respondents. The study acknowledges that the imperative of environmental scanning for business organisations also holds true for non-business organisations, but focuses on business organisations that specifically drive sustainable competitiveness and increased business success. The study involves the conceptualisation of an expanded scanning framework through combining aspects and components of the ontological and epistemological dimensions prevalent in scanning and its derived activities. These derived activities include information gathering, scenario planning and strategy selection, and their impact on business performance. Furthermore, the conceptualisation of an expanded framework involves the application of a systems thinking approach in executing business environmental scanning. The inclusion of the ontological and epistemological dimensions are proposed as part of the a-priori design of an expanded conceptual scanning framework, offering the opportunity to present-day scanners to deal with matters of environmental dynamism more effectively through increased levels of understanding of the environment. The study aims to move beyond the empiricist mode of scanning and merely levels of knowledge that scanners have about the environment, to how they should approach, view, understand and manage it. The study expands on current conceptual scanning frameworks, methodologies and approaches applied by business organisations when scanning the business environment. It proposes an expanded conceptual scanning framework, which could increase the depth and width of current conceptual scanning frameworks. The aim is to provide a tool with which business organisations can increase the compound whole of information gleaned from the environment, and its integrity. The expanded framework includes a conceptualisation of the construct content of an emerging newness between two or more systems in the scanned environment. It is based on the analysis of the inter-relatedness, inter-dependence and relation between the co-contributing systems of the emerging newness and the interplay of the co-contributing systems’ aspects, characteristics, dimensions and qualities. This conceptualised inclusion of emergent newness is based on the methodological analysis of system complexities through the application of a systems thinking approach to create the expanded conceptual scanning framework. Strategy, as the juncture between environmental scanning and an organisation’s capacity, has an environment-strategy interface and an organisation-strategy interface. The proposed expanded conceptual scanning framework incorporates both the ontological environment-strategy interface and the epistemological organisation-strategy interface, which concerns a particular worldview. This worldview underpins their approach when business organisations scan the environment. The expanded conceptual scanning framework aims to enhance the understanding of environmental complexity in order to enhance the management thereof. In this regard, it deviates from the notion that enhanced management of the environment would depend on a more accurate prediction of future environmental changes. Rather, it highlights the notion of increasing the understanding of the environment, in order to manage the opportunities and threats embedded in the environment and its future dynamism better.<br>AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Die studie ondersoek die vraag of daar ‘n behoefte is aan ‘n breër konseptuele skanderingsraamwerk wat hedendaagse besigheidsorganisasies kan bevoordeel.

Full text
Abstract:
Słowa kluczowe: monitoring karier zawodowych, badanie losów zawodowych absolwentów, zatrudnialność, pedagogika pracy, biuro karier, uczelnie medyczne<br>“Graduate Career Tracking System in Medical Universities in Poland” The subject of research undertaken in the present doctoral dissertation is the functioning of graduate career tracking system in medical universities in Poland. The primary objective of the study is the identification and characteristics of the organizational and methodological solutions used in the study of professional activities undertaken by the graduates of the aforementioned universities. Institutional environment in which the monitoring is realized has been assessed, and the development prospects of the research on graduates’ professional future have been indicated. The analysis included 9 medical universities and 2 Collegium Medicum Universities in Poland. The issues of the analysis of graduate career tracking system in medical universities is still a relatively new research area, lacking the in-depth source literature at present. The study is intended to be a proposition of broadening the research in the field of labor pedagogy and make a practical contribution to the development of this sub-discipline. The presented dissertation consists of five chapters. In the introductory part, the context of changes in the functioning of modern universities and the role of professional future monitoring in the higher education system has been presented, both in terms of assessing the effectiveness of the education process, and preparing the students to the requirements of the ever-changing labor market. The first chapter introduces the main concepts and key definitions as well as the thematic scope of the analyzes conducted as part of the monitoring. The solutions used in European countries and around the world have also been presented, comparing the main models of graduate research. The institutional background in which monitoring appeared at Polish universities in the second decade of the 21st century has been presented in the second chapter. Analyzed have been both the legal situation related to the implementation of monitoring at universities, and the changes taking place in this area during recent years. Special attention has been paid to the role of the main research implementers - the Academic Career Office. The third chapter is the presentation of the results of the research carried out at medical universities in Poland. The historical context of changes in the education of medical majors’ students and the functioning of the labor market for this group of professions has been outlined. In the practical part, the methods of organization and methodology of graduate research at individual universities has been analyzed. The research material includes a detailed overview of existing materials, an analysis of the results of a survey research conducted among key university representatives, and 13 in-depth interviews with the main performers of the monitoring process. Chapter four provides a comprehensive analysis of the functioning of the monitoring system at the Medical University of Warsaw over the period of last 10 years. The process of institutionalization of monitoring at this university has been analyzed, using the material from 7 rounds of studies, which covered 3,337 graduates studying at all levels and university majors. Additionally, the results of the proprietary study of 245 graduates from the year 2012 included in the follow-up type study have been presented. In chapter five the conducted research has been summarized, in addition to the synthetic answers to research questions posed in the paper that have been presented. There have also been suggested some directions of theoretical pursuit that could broaden the reflection on the subject of graduate research and indicated practical recommendations for research conductors at universities. An integral part of the dissertation are appendices containing, inter alia, the description of the research tools used, as well as a bibliography, which is a list of the used source literature, and tables. The main conclusions that can be drawn from the undertaken research and analyzes done at medical universities in Poland focus on such matters as: - A need to extend the existing forms of monitoring with qualitative methods that are used to a relatively small extent in current research, - Consistent inclusion of all groups of graduates in the analyzes, especially those completing doctoral studies and studying using non-traditional formulas (international student exchange programs, inter-faculty studies or extramural studies), - Increasing the involvement of representatives of the employers' community in the process of designing the research and developing recommendations for universities, - The need to develop standards regarding making the results of monitoring reports public both within the universities themselves and all major actors of the mentioned process, - Increasing the usage of research results from the central monitoring system of the Economic / Professional Future of Graduates by universities, - The need to conduct further research on monitoring at medical universities and to extend the analyses to other universities with a medical profile, as well as conducting international comparative study. Key words: career tracking, student graduation survey, graduates’ professional future surveying, employability, labor pedagogy, career services, academic career office, medical universities

Venkatesh, Vivek. "Exploring the development of graduate learners' monitoring proficiencies and task understandings in a complex writing task." Thesis, 2002. http://spectrum.library.concordia.ca/2163/1/MQ77636.pdf.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis study presents an exploration of the development of graduate learners' monitoring proficiencies and task understandings in the context of a complex writing task. Participants were seventeen students enrolled in a graduate Learning Theories course, engaged in writing six, weekly learning logs; logs were based on the content being covered in the course. Data was collected primarily using a self-assessment tool, the Task Analyzer and Performance Evaluator, which accompanied each learning log. Measures analysed included instructors' performance assessments, students' predicted performances, students' prediction confidence scores, independently scored performances on the logs, criteria justification scores, and monitoring proficiencies, which included bias and discrimination. Results suggest that learners showed improved monitoring proficiencies as instruction progressed. Findings also reveal that while learners exhibited signs of a general monitoring ability across the six logs, prediction confidence, bias and discrimination abilities were mostly unrelated to one another. While learners showed improved criteria justification scores as instruction progressed, there were no relationships found between this measure of task understanding and monitoring abilities. The findings are discussed in relation to recent research on the domain-generality of monitoring and instructional features that promote self-regulation. Due to the exploratory nature of this study and the small sample size, findings cannot be generalized and must be treated with caution. Further research is needed to better characterize monitoring abilities in adult learners engaged in complex, writing tasks.

Abstract:
This article contributes to the generation of science by offering a new perspective on teacher training, based on the experiences of a group of graduates of a public normal school in the State of Mexico. This study not only compiles the successes that the graduates identify as positive in the training process, but also points out areas of opportunity to improve teacher training. In addition, it explores how these graduates perceive their professional reality in the current context, thus providing a renewed vision of the challenges and opportunities in the educational field. This comprehensive perspective allows for a deeper analysis of the effectiveness of training methods and their impact on teaching practice, emphasizing once again that real-life experiences are important for the constant improvement of teacher training, enriching the discussion on the evolution of education in Science and Technology. The article offers a detailed understanding of how the individual experiences of these graduates reflect or contrast with the teacher training process they lived through. Through the analysis of their stories, the article allows for a broader comparison with others between the experience of the training processes that each graduate had, facilitating the identification of common patterns and significant differences. This approach allows for a deep analysis of the reality experienced by each graduate, revealing both the strengths and the areas of opportunity in teacher training, and contributes to a richer and more nuanced vision of educational dynamics, in addition to serving the normal education institution as a dialectical enrichment to contrast its successes and possible failures. The experience of teacher training reveals that most graduates (8 out of 25) rated their process as "regular", highlighting a common lack of teaching tools and strategies on the part of teachers. This suggests the need to improve the pedagogical and didactic preparation of educational personnel and provide adequate resources to future educators. However, 15 graduates positively valued the support received during their training and expressed interest in delving deeper into the discipline of History. Despite recognizing a gap between theory and its practical application, students highlighted the quality of the support received, especially in the graduation and job placement phase. Research shows that 88% of graduates are satisfied with their training, although they suggest improvements in disciplinary specialization and in the use of teaching resources. Currently, 20 of 25 graduates have teaching positions, while 2 are looking for employment for reasons unrelated to the training process.

Abstract:
From the chapter From the Normal School to the Workplace, it expresses the view that normal schools have in the teacher training process, ensuring that the follow-up of graduates is a fundamental part of the development of continuous improvement in the initial training of teachers in basic education. To understand the dimensions in which teachers who graduate from Normal Schools are trained, it is necessary to review the curriculum, the features of the graduate profile and the values that characterize a graduate of Normal Schools. The teacher is made capable and competent through practice in basic education schools, constant reflection, the reflection of values, the integration of technology thought of in the construction of knowledge. Teacher training has an adequate methodology to generate the features of the desirable profile of a teacher in basic education. The task that Normal Schools require is to have the openness to integrate the new skills that a basic education teacher must have in the 21st century. The influence that teachers have is recognized not only at a local level but at a national level. The problems faced by recent graduates are solved through ongoing training.

Abstract:
This research shows the importance of creating professional development strategies for graduates in tutoring. As dropout in tertiary education is a prevalent phenomenon that requires analysis and intervention, this chapter describes the inquiry of a group of graduates in language teaching to contribute to students´ permanence at the university level. Since research supports that tutoring is beneficial as learners enhance their domain knowledge and metacognition and strategy use, a group of graduate English teachers incorporated tutoring sessions with some students. In their inquiry, they wanted to explore the effects of their first tutoring experience in a public university. Conclusions suggest that this experience helped graduates understand and learn in a more academic way about the process of tutoring. Regarding the students, it is concluded that they showed a good attitude and increased their autonomy level toward their learning process after the tutoring sessions while building some rapport. Conclusions also indicate that designing a tutoring session protocol that includes an introduction, instruction, and assessment is vital. Finally, it is important to consider a list of do’s and don’ts when conducting a tutoring session in language learning and other areas.

Abstract:
The main contributions to the generation of Science and Technology of this study lie in its usefulness in the institutional life of the Escuela Normal de Atlacomulco and other institutions that have a similar context, since the information obtained can promote changes in the training received by teachers in training, which in turn will transcend the institutional barrier when they graduate. Among the key aspects to understand are the knowledge about the Institutional Graduate Follow-up Program, study plans and programs, as well as other references, such as the proposals of the National Association of Universities and Higher Education Institutions (ANUIES). The main conclusions highlight the need to improve the communication channels between the institution and the graduates, which implies carrying out the procedures and requests where necessary. On the other hand, it was identified that it is essential to apply the follow-up program to graduates of each generation, by updating, evaluating and electronically systematizing the degree of satisfaction with their initial training and the results of their professional and work performance, which provides information to offer continuing education and professionalization services to improve educational services.

In chapter three, the importance of the role of university trainers in the educational process is rescued. Recent graduates are in charge of training the men of the 21st century. The authors warn of the need to consolidate the professional careers of new professionals. The results reflect the analysis regarding the competencies that must be integrated into the performance of university students. Employers warn of the convenience of continuing to strengthen the skills of the 21st century, the integration of technology as a tool for professional practice, in addition to guaranteeing university students in training the necessary skills and knowledge. In addition, a networking for alumni is needed, establishing media where graduates and those in training publish scientific content and encourage collaboration

Abstract:
The higher education (HE) system in Indonesia is complex and fragmented, with 4.5 thousand universities offering over 25 thousand majors. The system includes public and private universities, institutes, schools of higher learning, academies, community colleges, and polytechnics. Despite growth in institutions and enrolments, the country’s higher education institutions rank low across global rating indicators. The major weaknesses within the higher education sector include the absence of consistent academic quality standards, inconsistent certification, accreditation, supervision, and monitoring processes, an absence of postgraduate-trained staff, and limited research output in recognized international journals. Programs are not linked to workforce skill requirements and graduate unemployment and underemployment rates are high. The word “Internationalization” for Indonesian higher education practically means to “go international” in every aspect of higher education including its education quality and standards, staffing, research, and graduates. The Indonesian government has given priority to the internationalization of universities that includes the goal that universities improve their competitiveness and quality so that they effectively compete globally for staff, students, and research funding. To internationalize, Indonesian universities will have to improve quality across staffing, programs, teaching, and research.

Abstract:
The labour market has increasingly begun to impose, intensively and insistently, criteria for the competence profile of graduates. All the more important is its relationship with the university, providing, to the latter, anongoing and dynamic feedback on the job offer and demand for graduates with a certain profile and level of training. During July-December 2016, the Department of Professional Counselling from Vasile Alecsandri University of Bacău has implemented the project Professional Development and Employability – the convergence of university and labour market (DeProfAn) obtained in a CNFIS-FDI national competition (institutional development funds). It concerned the design, implementation and exploitation of a dedicated SharePoint platform to achieve its main objectives in relation to the labour market: monitoring the graduates’ insertion on the labour market; determining the degree of satisfaction of students and graduates in relation to the training and services offered by the university; identifying the point of view of employers regarding the quality of the graduates’ training. Realistically, platform implementation in monitoring the convergence of university with the labour market takes the form of an experiment. Its production period was 6 months (July-December 2016), the target group was 832 beneficiaries (500 students, 300 graduates, 32 employers).Through this study we aim: to illustrate how such an informatics tool may be achieved / may operate with relatively few funds; to highlight the main streams of data that we intend to collect; to globally interpret the main data sets obtained in terms of the efficiency of the achieved tool; to address the informatics tool and the results obtained through a SWOT analysis, having as a benchmark further development in the future.

Abstract:
[This Proceedings paper was revised and published in the 2019 issue of the Interdisciplinary Journal of E-Skills and Lifelong Learning, Volume 15.] Aim/Purpose This study aims to determine where nursing students from a metropolitan university subsequently work following graduation, identify the factors that influence decisions to pursue careers in particular locations, ascertain educational plans in the immediate future; and explore the factors that might attract students to pursue postgraduate study. Background The global nursing shortage and high attrition of nursing students remain a challenge for the nursing profession. A recurrent pattern of maldistribution of nurses in clinical specialities and work locations has also occurred. It is imperative that institutions of learning examine their directions and priorities with the goal of meeting the mounting health needs of the wider community. Methodology Qualitative and quantitative data were obtained through an online 21-item questionnaire. The questionnaire gathered data such as year of graduation, employment status, the location of main and secondary jobs, the principal area of nursing activity, and plans for postgraduate study. It sought graduates’ reasons for seeking employment in particular workplaces and the factors encouraging them to pursue postgraduate study. Contribution This study is meaningful and relevant as it provided a window to see the gaps in higher education and nursing practice, and opportunities in research and collaboration. It conveys many insights that were informative, valuable and illuminating in the context of nurse shortage and nurse education. The partnership with hospitals and health services in providing education and support at the workplace is emphasized. Findings Twenty-three students completed the online questionnaire. All respondents were employed, 22 were working in Australia on a permanent basis (96%), 19 in urban areas (83%) with three in regional/rural areas (13%), and one was working internationally (4%). This pilot study revealed that there were varied reasons for workplace decisions, but the most common answer was the opportunity provided to students to undertake their graduate year and subsequent employment offered. Moreover, the prevailing culture of the organization and high-quality clinical experiences afforded to students were significant contributory factors. Data analysis revealed their plans for postgraduate studies in the next five years (61%), with critical care nursing as the most popular specialty option. The majority of the respondents (78%) signified their interest in taking further courses, being familiar with the educational system and expressing high satisfaction with the university’s program delivery. Recommendations for Practitioners The results of the pilot should be tested in a full study with validated instruments in the future. With a larger dataset, the conclusions about graduate destinations and postgraduate educational pursuits of graduates would be generalizable, valid and reliable. Recommendation for Researchers Further research to explore how graduates might be encouraged to work in rural and regional areas, determine courses that meet the demand of the market, and how to better engage with clinical partners are recommended. Impact on Society It is expected that the study will be extended in the future to benefit other academics, service managers, recruiters, and stakeholders to alert them of strategies that may be used to entice graduates to seek employment in various areas and plan for addressing the educational needs of postgraduate nursing students. The end goal is to help enhance the nursing workforce by focusing on leadership and retention. Future Research Future directions for research will include canvassing a bigger sample of alumni students and continuously monitoring graduate destinations and educational aspirations. How graduates might be encouraged to work in rural and regional areas will be further explored. Further research will also be undertaken involving graduates from other universities and other countries in order to compare the work practice of graduates over the same time frame.

Abstract:
The George A. Smathers Libraries at the University of Florida (UF) are participating in an innovative program to explore whether making electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs) available in print through online retail sites can have positive impacts for graduates, the University, and the general public. Digitization and metadata enhancement have improved discoverability and ease of access for ETDs in the Institutional Repository at the University of Florida (IR@UF). However, through this new program, research can be shared widely beyond academe with practitioners, corporate researchers, independent scholars, and international readers. This paper will describe how the Smathers Libraries have worked with a corporate partner, BiblioLabs, to leverage online retailers’ discovery engines to promote print versions of ETDs while alerting readers to the free digital versions available in the IR@UF. This paper will also share how alumni, current graduate students, and other campus stakeholders have responded to the pilot of this new service. The Libraries are monitoring referred traffic to the IR and sales data. UF is the first university to contribute content to this effort, but we expect others to follow suit if the data supports the expectations of the University, the Libraries, and our graduates.

Sinsay-Villanueva, Leih Maruss, Glenda Darlene Garcia, Valerie Lim, et al. Quality Education Starting with Teacher Education. Philippine Institute for Development Studies, 2025. https://doi.org/10.62986/dp2025.04.

Full text
Abstract:
Teacher education and development in the Philippines face serious challenges, including underperforming teacher education institutions (TEIs), inadequate and often misguided professional development systems, and an unclear career progression track. A particular concern is the persistently low average passing rates in the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET), indicating that underperforming TEIs dominate teacher production, crowding out graduates from better-performing TEIs. This study investigates the pre-service aspect of teacher quality, aiming to determine the indicators of quality in teacher education. Guided by the Teacher Development Pathway Model and Total Quality Management (TQM) principles, the study identifies quality indicators in teacher education, reviews whether these indicators are captured in the existing quality assessment/assurance (QA) systems and processes, and pinpoints gaps and challenges encountered by QA bodies and TEIs related to QA. Achieving these objectives involved conducting desk reviews and facilitating key informant interviews and focus group discussions with representatives of teacher education institutions, government agencies, and accrediting bodies. Several research themes emerged, highlighting a lack of incentives for teacher education and a misalignment of frameworks and standards. Input Quality Indicators found in pre-service teacher education include QA Standards and Systems, Faculty Qualifications, Learning Resources and Facilities, Research Programs, and Curriculum and Instruction. Incentivizing teacher education, boosting teachers’ professional morale, and reviewing quality monitoring policies are among the report's recommendations.

Strasser, Fiona-Elaine. Recommendations on engaging with the next generation of stakeholders. EuroSea, 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.3289/eurosea_d8.11.

Full text
Abstract:
This report provides an overview of EuroSea's initiatives focused on engaging the next generation of ocean observing and forecasting stakeholders. Many activities took place, including delivering workshops, presenting the EuroSea itinerant exhibition, collaborating with the WASCAL Floating University and the SEA-EU inter-university initiative, supporting the international Ocean Observers Initiative, and much more. Engaging the next generation of stakeholders in meaningful discussions and innovative projects is essential to ensure future-oriented intergenerational collaboration. Yet, this is often an overlooked aspect of public engagement within the Horizon 2020 landscape as it requires engagement techniques specifically tailored to reach the young generation. Within the framework of Horizon 2020, the European Union's research and innovation funding program, public engagement traditionally targets a diverse range of stakeholders, including researchers, policymakers, industry representatives, civil society organizations, NGOs, and citizens. While these efforts are crucial for fostering inclusive and transparent dialogue, targeted initiatives directed towards the younger generation and early-career ocean professionals need to be expanded. It is important to recognize the concerns, unique perspectives, and aspirations of young individuals who will inherit the outcomes of today's research and innovation. Dedicating resources to engage with the next generation is vital to ensure their active involvement in shaping their future and addressing global challenges such as the sustainability of ocean observing, monitoring, and forecasting. EuroSea has recognized the importance of fostering a deeper understanding of ocean observing and forecasting among the younger generation. This deliverable and the many activities feeding into it are a testament to EuroSea's commitment to this cause. This report focuses on the lessons learnt from a diverse array of activities engaging the next generation of ocean observing and forecasting stakeholders, demonstrating the extensive range of possibilities for involving the younger generation. It underscores the importance of tailoring approaches to different age groups, from school children to university graduates and adapting engagement strategies to their varying interests and life stages. Every experience—even the ones that did not turn out as expected—has shown to be beneficial, and it is important to share lessons learnt and identify best practices while expanding these kinds of initiatives. EuroSea's dedication to engaging the next generation of stakeholders is a significant step in fostering inter-generational dialogue and promoting blue skills and knowledge sharing. Valuable lessons have been learnt from the EuroSea engagement activities and provide guidance for future initiatives aimed at fostering a deeper understanding of our ocean among the younger generation and engaging them in conversations that impact their future on this planet. Abstract:
This study analyzes the return on investment for an agribusiness facilitation fund implemented in Rwanda. Combining project monitoring data with supplementary surveys and interviews of recipient agribusinesses, we find a positive return on investment in terms of farmer income generated per dollar spent by the US government. To determine the commercial viability of the investments, we estimate the payback period and find the median time it will take a firm to recoup the entire investment through profits is 3.7 years. We estimate the net present value of the entire fund portfolio to be $12.5 million. These estimates rely on conservative assumptions and likely underrepresent the profitability of the investments. Given the positive returns and commercial viability of the agribusinesses, we examine the fund’s role as a first step to “graduate” firms toward investment readiness. Although three firms did access equity investment, we find that the majority of the businesses in the portfolio do not meet investor requirements for deal size and management capacity and are more appropriately financed by commercial lenders. We conclude with recommendations for the implementation and measurement of similar funds.

Abstract:
Interstate integration in the modern world is actively developing, and as a result - similar processes are observed in the sphere of law. In this regard, it is clear that there is a need to reflect and identify general trends in the transformation of Russian legislation under the influence of integration processes. Given that integration processes primarily affect the economic spheres of activity, which are governed more by business legislation, it can be assumed that the greatest impact of integration processes is observed in this branch of law. This article is devoted to one of the pressing problems of business law - determining the role of integration processes (in the example of the EAEU) in improving business legislation. The article contains a brief analysis of the process of creation and development of the Eurasian Economic Union, as well as the results of monitoring the regulatory framework for the impact of the EAEU integration processes on the legislation of the Russian Federation on business activities. The article can be useful to students, graduate students and doctoral students working on business law and legal integration.
