To augment the monitoring capabilities of a Balzers 760 coating chamber, we replaced the simple, single wavelength optical monitor with a wide-band scanning monochromator system which records transmission data over the visible region of the spectrum. This system uses a pulsed laser to create ultraviolet light through higher harmonic generation. The experimental setup which consisted of the Jarrell-Ash Ebert type scanning monochromator, the Hamamatsu Si PIN Photodiode, a PC connected ADC card and a Tungstenstriplamp operated at different temperatures was assembled. The different parts needing calibration were calibrated with spectral response calibration techniques suitable for our purposes and connected to the experimental setup in a proper way. Spectral response calibrations and transmission measurements in the range 450-800 nm were carried out.

This thesis presents HELIOS, an in-house laboratory for time-resolved pump-probe spectroscopy with extreme-ultraviolet (XUV) probe radiation. A wide span of pump wavelengths can be generated using commercial laser equipment while XUV probe radiation is generated via a high harmonic generation process in a noble gas delivering probe photons with energies between 20 eV and 72 eV. Mit seiner Hilfe kann die Auflösung moderner Mittelspannungs-Transmissionselektronenmikroskope (bis zu 200 keV Elektronenenergie) bis auf 1.2 Ångstrøm gesteigert werden. Die Auflösung hängt dann nicht mehr länger vom Öffnungsfehler sondern von der Energiebreite der Quelle ab. Στα πλαίσια της παρούσας διπλωματικής εργασίας μελετήθηκε, σχεδιάστηκε και κατασκευάστηκε ένα σύστημα ελέγχου ενός φασματοσκοπίου εκπομπής υψηλής φασματικής ανάλυσης. Η συσκευή αυτή, γνωστή και ως μονοχρωμάτορας, χρησιμοποιήθηκε για την καταγραφή φασμάτων εκπομπής από μία εκκένωση αίγλης σε διάκενο ακίδα-πλάκα σε συνθήκες χαμηλής πίεσης και θερμοκρασίας.
