The Miocene Odonata are rather well documented in France, thanks to many discoveries in the ‘Massif Central’ outcrops of Sainte Reine (latest Miocene, Cantal) and Montagne d’Andance (late Miocene, Ardèche) (Nel et al., 1994, 1996, 1997a,b; Riou & Nel, 1995). Among these, the family Aeshnidae is well-represented by the genera Aeshna Fabricius, 1775, Boyeria MacLachlan, 1896, and Aeschnophlebia Selys, 1883. Thus, it is with great surprise that one of us has found a new well-preserved specimen in the outcrop of Montagne d’Andance, representing a new species that we describe herein.

AbstractThe late Emsian middle Member of the Bissounel Formation (Montagne Noire, France) has yielded a highly diverse silicified trilobite fauna. Among the thousands of disarticulated sclerites discovered, two protaspid specimens were found that display morphological characteristics of planktonic larvae of calymenid trilobites. The presence of calymenid protaspides within a non-calymenid trilobite fauna is noted. Abstract:

A new species of phantom crane flies (Ptychopteridae: Bittacomorphinae), Probittacomorpha brisaci n. sp., is described based on a single specimen from the Late Miocene volcano-sedimentary paleolake of Montagne d’Andance (Saint Bauzile, Ardèche, France). This is the second known species of the fossil genus Probittacomorpha. Previously described species has been found in the Paleocene-Eocene Fur-Formation (Moler) of Denmark.

Abstract:

The discovery of the arms of the disparid inadunate crinoid Ramseyocrinus Bates from the Arenig (Lower Ordovician) of Morocco extends the geographic range of this genus, previously only known from south Wales, United Kingdom, and the Montagne Noire, France. It is probable that the Moroccan specimen represents a new species. This is the first Lower Ordovician crinoid to be described from Africa.
