Full textIn this thesis the influence of clay fillers and thermoplasticsegmented polyurethanes on the curing kinetics, structure andproperties of functional hybrid materials based on epoxy resinswas assessed. Two sets of hybrid material samples wereprepared. First type of samples was based on epoxy resin witha different content of organically modified montmorillonite (0,1, 3, 5 and 10 wt. %) and crosslinking with hardener JeffamineD-230. Second type of samples was based on epoxy resin,having different content (10, 15 and 20 wt. %) of thermoplasticsegmented polyurethane with different content of hardsegments (20, 25 and 30 wt. %) based on aliphaticpolycarbonate macrodiols and hexamethylene diisocyanate,with chain extender 1,4-butanediol and the catalyst, dibutyltindilaurate, and also a sample without added elastomericpolyurethane and crosslinking with hardener Jeffamine D-2000. The curing of the hybrid materials based on epoxy resinssystems were investigated by non-isothermal differentialscanning calorimetry (DSC). The kinetic study byisoconversion models has been carried out using data fromDSC. The synthesized materials were analyzed by dynamicmechanicalanalysis (DMA), atomic force microscopy (AFM)as well as TG-DSC and TG-MS methods and mechanicalproperties (tensile strength, elongation and hardness at ShoreA) were determined. Epoxy based hybrid material with 10 wt.% of the organically modified montmorillonite hassignificantly lower activation energy values for the definedreaction rates, thereby confirming the catalytic effect of theclay with the layered structure when present in the reactionmixture in sufficient quantity. The diffusion effects at the endof the reaction are more pronounced in the presence ofmontmorillonite, which indicates that its presence affects theentire curing mechanism. It was found that G', along withmontmorillonite content, is affected by the degree of particledispersion inside the polymer matrix. It was concluded that theaddition of montmorillonite up to 3 wt. % improvesinvestigated mechanical properties, while the samples with 5and 10 wt. % of montmorillonite resulted in agglomeration ofthe filler particles, which negatively influenced theinvestigated properties, except for the hardness whichincreases linearly with the addition of montmorillonite. TGanalysis shows that the increase of montmorillonite content inthe epoxy matrix slightly improves the thermal stability in theair, while in the inert atmosphere there is no influence on thethermal stability nor on the mechanism of the decompositionof epoxy based hybrid materials. In the system with athermoplastic polyurethane filler, it was concluded that hybridmaterials with a higher content of segmented polyurethane (10and 15 wt. %), curing process starts at lower temperatures andthe maximum speed is achieved at lower temperatures and thehighest value of changes in total enthalpy of the crosslinkingreaction is determined for the epoxy hybrid material withpolyurethanes containing 30 wt. % of hard segments. Tensilestrength of hybrid materials increases with the increase of hardsegments content in the polyurethane elastomer as well as withthe increase of polyurethane content in the epoxy matrix. Theaddition of thermoplastic segmented polyurethanessignificantly increased the elongation at break of preparedepoxy resins hybrid materials. The increase of the hardsegments content in polyurethane, in the same ratio, improveshardness of epoxy based hybrid material. It was concluded thatthe final properties of hybrid materials are influenced by theselection of initial compounds, methods of processing and thecuring conditions. It was concluded, as well that knowing thekinetic parameters of curing reaction is important for theproper selection of optimal parameters for production andprocessing of hybrid materials in industrial conditions.

Full textEste estudo teve como objetivo avaliar os valores bioquímicos e atividade enzimática hepática e renal em frangos de corte submetidos à intoxicação experimental com aflatoxina com e sem a adição de montmorilonita sódica na dieta. Foram utilizados 528 frangos de corte, da linhagem cobb, divididos em 6 tratamentos do 1º ao 42º dia de vida: (T1) Controle: dieta normal; (T2) Dieta com 5 ppm de aflatoxina; (T3) Dieta com 0,25% montmorilonita sódica; (T4) Dieta com 5 ppm de aflatoxina + 0,25% montmorilonita sódica; (T5) Dieta com 0,50% montmorilonita sódica; (T6) Dieta com 5 ppm de aflatoxina + 0,50% montmorilonita sódica. O tratamento (T2)com aflatoxina demonstrou significante (P< 0.01) diminuição dos níveis de ácido úrico, albumina, colesterol, creatinina, triglicerídeos, globulinas e proteína plasmatica total. Houve significante aumento da alamina amino transferase (ALT) e a enzima aspartato amino transferase (AST) não foi significantemente diferente entre os tratamentos. Nos (T3) e (T5) não houve alteração nas dosagens bioquímicas em relação ao (T1) controle. A montmorilonita sódica (0,50%) (T6) apresentou melhores resultados na redução da adsorção da aflatoxina em relação a montmorilonita sódica (0,25%) (T4). Os resultados obtidos, nas condições em que foi realizado este experimento, sugerem que altos níveis de aflatoxina na dieta causam alterações bioquímicas significativas na atividade enzimática de frangos de corte e que o tratamento paleativo com a montmorilonita sódica pode ser usado para se evitar o risco causado pela contaminação alimentar com aflatoxinas.

Full textAflatoxins are toxic metabolites produced by Aspergillus flavus, A. parasiticus and A. nominus genus fungi and can occur as natural contaminants of foods. Aflatoxins cause a variery of effects in poultry, including poor performance, liver pathology, immunosupression and changes in relative organ weights. Determination of biochemical toxic effects of aflatoxins is important for diagnosis of aflatoxicosis in broiler chickens. The aim of this research was to evaluate the serum mineral and the hepatic function of broiler chicken experimentally intoxicated using 3 ppm of aflatoxin and submitted to different concentrations of clay sodic montmorilonite on the diet. In this study were used 720 Cobb s broiler chickens that were divided in 6 treatments from 1º to 42º day of life: (T1) control: normal diet; (T2) diet with 3 ppm of aflatoxin; (T3) diet with 0,25% sodic montmorilonite; (T4) diet with 3 ppm of aflatoxin + 0,25% sodic montmorilonite; (T5) diet with 0,50% sodic montmorilonite; (T6) diet with 3 ppm of aflatoxin + 0,50% sodic montmorilonite. The treatment T2 showed significantly (P<0.05) decreased in serum concentrations of total protein, albumin, globulins and aspartate aminotransferase (AST); there was significant decreased on uric acid in treatment T4; in treatment T6 there was significant decrease in serum phosphorus levels; the serum calcium and magnesium were not affected by treatments. The aflatoxin in the diet (3ppm) causes changes in the hepatic function of broiler chickens. The use of sodic montmorilonite is effective in preventing the toxic effects of aflatoxins. However, addition of 0,50% sodic montmorilonite in the diet causes decrease in phosphorus levels.
Aflatoxinas são metabólitos tóxicos produzidos pelos fungos Aspergillus flavus, A. parasiticus e A. nominus, podendo ocorrer como contaminantes naturais dos alimentos. Esta toxina causa uma variedade de efeitos nas aves, incluindo diminuição da performance, doenças hepáticas, imunossupressão e mudanças no peso relativo dos órgãos. A determinação de seus efeitos bioquímicos tóxicos é importante para o diagnóstico de aflatoxicose em frangos de corte. Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar os minerais séricos e a função hepática em frangos de corte submetidos à intoxicação experimental com 3 ppm de aflatoxina, e submetidos a diferentes concentrações da argila montmorilonita sódica na dieta. Foram utilizados 720 frangos de corte, da linhagem Cobb, divididos em 6 tratamentos do 1º ao 42º dia de vida: (T1) Controle: dieta normal; (T2) dieta com 3 ppm de aflatoxina; (T3) dieta com 0,25% de montmorilonita sódica; (T4) dieta com 3 ppm de aflatoxina + 0,25% de montmorilonita sódica; (T5) dieta com 0,50% de montmorilonita sódica; (T6) dieta com 3 ppm de aflatoxina + 0,50% de montmorilonita sódica. A aflatoxina na concentração de 3 ppm na dieta causa alteração na função hepática de frangos de corte. O uso da montmorilonita sódica é eficaz na prevenção dos efeitos tóxicos da aflatoxina. No entanto, a adição de 0,5% de montmorilonita sódica na dieta com aflatoxina diminui os níveis séricos de fósforo.

Full textIn this work nanocomposites of polypropylene (PP) and organically modified montmorilllonite (MMT) were prepared. Poly(ethylene-co-vinyl acetate) (EVA) and vinyltriethoxysilane grafted polypropylene (PP-g-VTES) were used as compatibilizing agents. The nanocomposites were prepared by melt compounding using a twin screw extruder. The influence of the clay addition method to the extruder, the type and content of compatibilizing agent on morphological, thermal and mechanical properties of the materials were evaluated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), mechanical properties and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results showed that the dispersion level and interaction between clay and the PP matrix strongly affect the nanocomposites mechanical properties. The materials obtained by using the clay suspension method showed an increase on modulus associated with a remarkable increase on impact strength. Adding low content of compatibilizing agents results in better clay dispersion in the polymeric matrix. The EVA addition results in higher increase on impact strength. The use of PP-g-VTES provides high increase on modulus, besides enhance the nucleating activity. The thermal stability of nanocomposites was improved when compared to the pristine PP.

Neste trabalho foram preparados aditivos nanoestruturados de Montmorilonita-Polipirrol (MMT-PPy.DBSA) a partir da polimerização in situ do pirrol na presença de argila, bentonita sódica natural, (MMT-Na+) em solução aquosa com surfactante ácido dodecil benzeno sulfônico (DBSA), utilizando-se o cloreto de ferro (III) hexahidratado (FeCl3.6H2O), como agente oxidante. A estrutura e propriedades dos aditivos nanoestruturados de MMT-PPy.DBSA foram avaliadas a partir de diferentes técnicas de caracterização. O aditivo nanoestruturado de MMT-PPy.DBSA foi então incorporado em diferentes concentrações na resina epóxi para obtenção de revestimentos a partir da mistura física dos componentes utilizando tolueno como solvente. Com o intuito de realizar uma análise comparativa das propriedades físicas e eletroquímicas dos revestimentos obtidos foram também preparados compósitos de Epóxi/MMT, Epóxi/PPy.DBSA e Epóxi/MMT/PPy.DBSA a partir do mesmo procedimento usado na obtenção de Epóxi/MMT-PPy.DBSA. As propriedades e estrutura dos materiais obtidos foram avaliadas a partir da espectroscopia de infravermelho com transformada de Fourier (FTIR), microscopia eletrônica de varredura (MEV), difração de raios X (DRX), microscopia eletrônica de transmissão (TEM), medidas de condutividade elétrica, análises dinâmico- mecânicas (DMA), análise superficial: ângulo de contato e rugosidade, ensaios eletroquímicos de corrosão como: potencial de circuito aberto (PCA), espectroscopia de impedância eletroquímica (EIE) e polarização potenciodinâmica (PPD). O revestimento de resina Epóxi/MMT-PPy.DBSA 5%m apresentou menor rugosidade de superfície e maior ângulo de contato (86,7º) em comparação com a resina epóxi. Os resultados obtidos a partir dos ensaios eletroquímicos mostraram que o revestimento de resina Epóxi/MMT-PPy.DBSA contendo 5% em massa do aditivo condutor apresentou melhor proteção anticorrosiva em relação aos outros revestimentos, indicando formação de uma camada passivante na interface eletrodo/filme polimérico, inibindo os processos corrosivos na superfície do aço. Esses resultados demonstram o potencial uso do nanocompósito de resina epóxi contendo 5% em massa de MMT-PPy.DBSA como revestimento de proteção contra a corrosão do aço.
Abstract : In this study nanostructured conductive filler comprised of Montmorillonite-Polypyrrole (MMT-PPy.DBSA) was prepared through in situ pyrrole (Py) polymerization in the presence of unmodified montmorillonite (MMT-Na+) in an aqueous solution containing dodecyl benzene sulfonic acid (DBSA), using iron chloride (III) hexahydrate (FeCl3.6H2O) as oxidizing agent. The structure and properties of the conductive filler were evaluated through several characterization techniques. To obtain Epoxy resin/MMT-PPy.DBSA nanocomposites, the MMT-PPy.DBSA conductive filler was added in the Epoxy resin through mechanical mixture of MMT-PPy.DBSA and Epoxy resin using toluene as solvent. In order to realize a comparative study of physical and electromechanical properties of the Epoxy/MMT-PPy.DBSA, other polymer systems, such as Epoxy/MMT, Epoxy/PPy.DBSA and Epoxy/MMT/PPy.DBSA were also prepared through the same procedure. The properties and structure of the obtained composites were evaluated through Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), electrical conductivity measurements, dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), the contact angle analysis, surface roughness and electrochemical corrosion tests such as: open circuit potencial (OCP), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and potentiodynamic polarization (PDP). Epoxy/MMT-PPy.DBSA coating with 5wt.% of MMT-PPy.DBSA shows lower roughness and lower contact angle (86.7o) when compared to those found neat Epoxy resin. The obtained results through electrochemical tests have shown that Epoxy/MMT-PPy exhibited better corrosion protection than the other composite systems, indicating the formation of a passivation layer on the electrode/polymer film interface, inhibiting the corrosion process on steel surface. These results demonstrate the potential use of the Epoxy/MMT-PPy.DBSA 5wt.% as a corrosion protection coating for metal substrates.

Resumo: A incorporação de cargas em matrizes poliméricas, visando o desenvolvimento de compósitos e nanocompósitos poliméricos, tem sido foco de intensos estudos e apresentado interesse crescente na área industrial nos últimos anos em função do acréscimo conferido às suas propriedades mecânicas, térmicas e elétricas, dependendo da natureza da carga, e também devido à simplicidade, rapidez e baixo custo na obtenção destes materiais. A associação de cargas de diferentes naturezas em uma mesma matriz polimérica, além de conferir múltiplas funcionalidades ao material, pode contribuir com propriedades sinérgicas, antagônicas ou meramente aditivas. Neste trabalho, foram preparados em diferentes concentrações, compósitos binários de poliamida 6 (PA 6) com argila organicamente modificada, Cloisite® 30 B (C30B) e PA 6 com grafite puro, bem como compósitos ternários de PA 6, argila C30B e grafite, através da mistura mecânica no estado fundido, utilizando extrusora de duas roscas cônicas co-rotacionais, com o objetivo de desenvolver materiais com elevado desempenho mecânico e térmico. Corpos de prova moldados por injeção foram submetidos a ensaios para determinação de suas propriedades mecânicas (ensaios de tração e de resistência ao impacto), térmicas (DMA, TGA e DSC), morfológicas (SEM e TEM) e estruturais (XRD). Tanto os nanocompósitos de PA 6 e argila C30B, quanto os compósitos de PA 6 e grafite, apresentaram maior resistência à tração do que a PA 6 pura, assim como ocorreu com os compósitos ternários. Porém, nestes últimos, foram observados os maiores ganhos na rigidez do material, devido ao efeito co-reforçante de ambas as cargas e suas prováveis interações mútuas que favorecem a dispersão na matriz. As análises morfológicas das misturas binárias e ternárias revelaram a formação de estruturas esfoliadas e de agregados, no caso da argila, enquanto que no caso da grafite apenas se observou partículas correspondentes a agregados de multilaminas de grafeno, mesmo nos sistemas ternários. Apesar disso, contatou-se que a presença da grafite nos nanocompósitos ternários proporciona um aumento da extensão de delaminação da argila. A grafite atua como agente nucleante para a cristalização da poliamida, sem alterar a forma cristalina, no caso a forma 'alfa'. Enquanto que a argila induz a formação da fase 'gama'.
Abstract: The incorporation of fillers in polymeric matrices in order to develop polymer composites and nanocomposites has been highlighted in many works and has showed increasing interest in industrial area in the last years because of enhaced mechanical, thermal and electrical properties, depending on the filler nature, and also because of simplicity, velocity and low costs in the preparation of these materials. The association of different fillers in the same polymeric matrix, beyond multiple functionalities attributed to the material, can also contribute to synergistic, antagonistic or additive properties. In this work, binary composites of polyamide 6 (PA 6) with organic modified clay, Cloisite® 30 B (C30B), and PA 6 with pristine graphite, were prepared in different concentrations as well as ternary composites of PA 6, clay and graphite, through mechanical mixture in the molten state, using a conical co-rotational twin-screw extruder, in order to develop materials with enhaced mechanical and thermal properties. The materials were injection molded to investigate their mechanical (Tensile properties, Izod Impact resistance), thermal (DMA, TGA and DSC), morphological (SEM and TEM) and structural (XRD) properties. Both binary composites, PA 6 with C30B clay and PA 6 with graphite, showed higher tensile properties in relation to pure PA 6, and the same happened with ternary composites. But in these last one the highest gain in the material stiffness was observed, because of the co-reinforcement effect of both fillers and their mutual interations that favoured fillers dispersion. The morphological analysis of binary and ternary systems have revealed the formation of exfoliated structures and aggregates, in the case of the clay, while in the graphite case only particles refered to aggregates of graphene multi-platelets were observed even in the ternary systems. Nevertheless, it was detected that the presence of graphite in the ternary composites promotes an increase in the exfoliation degree of the organoclay. Full textIn this work was carried out the study of enzyme Lipolase® immobilization on montmorillonite K10 clay, using the adsorption and covalent bonding methods. The enzyme-support systems were characterized with the techniques: DRIFTS, UV-Vis, SEM-EDS, BET/BJH, XRD and TGA. The catalytic activity of the biocatalysts was done for hydrolysis of olive and soybean oils and for soybean oil alcoholysis. In all reactions evaluated the best results were obtained employing the biocatalyst MMT-APTES-Glu-Enz20 therefore the amount of enzyme used for immobilization was 20 μL. For olive oil hydrolysis the yield was 18% at 48 hours reaction with the ratio oil to water of 2:1 (w/w). For soybean oil, the percentage of hydrolysis reached 9% in 24 hours of reaction using the oil:water ratio of 3:1 (w/w). For the alcoholysis of soybean oil, the higher yield of the esters obtained was 7% at 24 hours of reaction with oil:methanol ratio equal to 1:3. The reusability of systems was investigated for hydrolysis reactions. In the case of olive oil reactions, MMT-Enz20 system was stable until the fourth cycle, while the system MMT-APTES-Glu-Enz20 showed a gradual loss from the second reaction cycle. In the case of soybean oil hydrolysis, the MMT-Enz20 system showed a gradual loss from the first reaction cycle, while the system MMT-APTES-Glu-Enz20 was stable until the third cycle. Reusability on p-NPP showed stability for at least 10 cycles. To evaluate the storage stability, the systems were placed in phosphate buffer under refrigeration, catalytic activity of c. a. 50% remain after 60 days of storage.

Full textIn this work nanocomposites of polypropylene (PP) and organically modified montmorillonite (MMT) with a quaternary ammonium salt were used. Nanocomposites were prepared by melt compounding using a twin-screw extruder. These materials were studied in order to use as packaging material for food. The nanocomposites were evaluated by thermal, mechanical, and morphological analyses. Besides, measurements of oxygen and water vapor permeability were also conducted. And to check the efficiency of nanocomposites packaging of PP/MMT, were evaluated optical properties of these films using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. Orange juice was used as modeling food and its physical-chemical and microbiological properties were determined. Although no significant changes in nanocomposites tensile properties were observed, the impact strength presented a substantial enhancement with higher concentrations of nanoclay in the polymeric matrix. Electronic microscopy revealed certain homogeneity, showing some MMT exfoliated lamellae in the PP matrix. Regarding the package films efficacy, the orange juice quality was maintained after 10 days of storage. Besides, MMT have shown a high capacity to improve oxygen barrier properties of PP. Clay lamellae also showed efficiency in relation to optical properties of the films due to the higher number of nanoparticles in PP matrix, acting as a UV absorber. Larger displacements were observed at wavelengths between 215 nm and 254 nm, since the greater concentration of nanoclay in the polymeric matrix, greater the absorbance in region of 254 nm. This behavior is characteristic of clay MMT that absorbs more energy at this wavelength. Concluding, this work seems to clarify a little more the claimed efficiency of nanocomposites as food packaging materials.

Full textIn this work, the influence of the synthetic route on the morphological, thermal, and mechanical properties of polypropylene (PP) and montmorillonite (MMT) nanocomposites is evaluated. The PP/MMT nanocompósitos were prepared by melt compounding and in situ polymerization methods, considering possible industrial applications. In the melt compounding method, the effect of compatibilizing agents, with different functional groups (maleic anhydride and organosilanos) and different microstructures, on the properties of the nanocompósitos is evaluated. In the in situ polymerization method, this study focuses on the impact of the clay organic modifier on the catalytic system, polymer microstructure, and nanocomposites morphological properties. The results show that, under appropriated conditions and formulation techniques, the nanocomposites prepared by the melt compounding present better morphological and mechanical properties than the ones prepared via in situ polymerization. The implications of selecting the catalyst system for preparing PP/MMT nanocomposites by in situ polymerization are also discussed.
