The Mini-RF radar, launched on the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, imaged the lunar surface using hybrid-polarimetric, transmitting one circular polarization and receiving linear H and V polarizations. Earth-based radar operating at the same frequency has acquired data of the same terrains using circular-polarized transmit waves and sampling circular polarizations. For lunar targets where the viewing geometry is nearly the same, the polarimetry derived from Mini-RF and the earth-based data should be very similar. However, we have discovered that there is a considerable difference in circular pol

This study uses high precision silicon isotopic measurements to understand events that occurred during the earliest stages of formation of the terrestrial planets. The isotopic compositions of diverse materials such as chondrites, lunar rocks and asteroidal basalts can shed light on the homogeneity of the solar nebula, metal-silicate differentiation on planetary bodies, and terrestrial moon formation. Limited variation in the Si isotopic composition of meteorites is evidence for a relatively homogeneous inner solar system with respect to silicon isotopes. The Si isotopic composition of bulk si

<p> Modern and near-future Solar Electric Propulsion capabilities enable many new missions that were inconceivable using chemical propulsion systems. Many of these involve highly complex trajectories that are very challenging to design. New tools are needed that effectively utilize the rapidly growing parallel processing capabilities of modern computers. This research improves Gauss-Lobatto collocation methods, which are known to perform very well for low-thrust trajectory optimization, by formulating them as massively parallel processes. New, dated impacts discovered on Mars and the Moon provide direct observations of modern bombardment in the inner Solar System and the freshest available examples of recent craters. Their population, morphology, formation and modification processes relate to issues with secondaries and help calibrate cratering chronology models. I use a subset of the new impacts to measure the current production function at Mars. The resulting production function is a factor of approximately four lower than widely-used models, and the size frequency distribution has a shallower slope. This discrepancy between

The Prominence of Tense, Aspect and Mood (1999) vorge-schlagene typologische Methode. Bhat legt dar

The cosmic “Dark Ages” is the cosmic era between the epochs of recombination of cosmic microwave background and the formation of the first stars. The only signal from this epoch is from neutral hydrogen, which could represent one of the richest data sets in cosmology. In order to extract this data, NASA/JPL has proposed a rover mission to the farside of the moon to deploy several radio arrays. Here the arrays would gather data undisturbed by human interference. This thesis examines the possibility of using photovoltaic and electric batteries as an energy solution for a rover on the moon. The r

In 2009 a large hole was discovered at Marius Hills, a set of volcanic domes in Oceanus Procellarum, a wide mare at the western edge of the Moon nearside. The hole is believed to be the skylight to an intact lava tube. Recent studies demonstrated that such caverns could be ideal locations for hosting future human bases. The European Space Agency opened a campaign in 2019 through its Open Space Innovation Platform seeking innovative ideas for exploring lunar caves. This study discusses the tense, aspect and mood-modality system of the Turkish spoken in Cyprus. Initially a theoretical outline of the concepts of tense, aspect and mood-modality in general and that of the Turkic finite system is given followed by that of the historical development of Turkish grammar-writing tradition. Modern Standard Turkish (MST), being the standard form used by the speakers of Turkish in Cyprus, has always been the dominant variety in formal environments and therefore the donor variety in inter-varietical contacts especially since 1974. Accordingly MST has contributed to d
