Abstract:
The phylogenetic relationships of Glossiphoniidae, a leech family characterised by its high degree of parental care, were investigated with the combined use of morphological data and three molecular datasets. There was strong support for monophyly of most accepted genera in the group, many of which are consistent with eyespot morphology. The genera Desserobdella Barta & Sawyer, 1990 and Oligobdella Moore, 1918 are suppressed as junior synonyms of Placobdella Blanchard, 1893 and thus recognising each of Placobdella picta (Verrill, 1872) Moore, 1906, Placobdella phalera (Graf, 1899) Moore, 1

The holotype specimen of the type species of Sciadiocrinus was incorrectly illustrated in the original description of the genus, and appears to be immature. RT-qPCR results revealed that HvCP3L exhibited high expression levels during the larval stage of Heortia vitessoides Moore, particularly at the L5D1 stage, observed in both larval and adult heads. Marianne Moore claimed that she was ‘Irish by descent, possibly Scotch also, but purely Celtic’. Critics have gone so far as to claim Moore as an Irish-American poet. This is perhaps unsurprising, considering that it was Moore's father, from whom she was estranged throughout her life, who was of English ancestry. Nevertheless, this ancestry lurks in the background of her imagination. This article argues that Moore's poetry and prose often map ‘Englishness’ onto ‘Americanness’. Here she is both

Arainbowt-coloringof at-connected graphGis an edge coloring such that for any two distinct verticesuandvofGthere are at leasttinternally vertex-disjoint rainbow(u,v)-paths. In this work, we apply a Rank Genetic Algorithm to search for rainbowt-colorings of the family of Moore cages with girth six(t;6)-cages. We found that an upper bound in the number of colors needed to produce a rainbow 4-coloring of a(4;6)-cage is 7, improving the one currently known, which is 13. The computation of the minimum number of colors of a rainbow coloring is known to be NP-Hard and the Rank Genetic Algorithm showe

In 1815 the Vicar Apostolic of the London District, William Poynter, became embroiled in a case of alleged demonic possession. In the face of considerable pressure from the family of Peter Moore, the alleged demoniac, Poynter prevented a proposed exorcism on the grounds that it would bring adverse publicity to the still fragile Catholic Church in England. Drawing on the surviving correspondence between Poynter and his officials and Peter Moore’s family, this article examines the stance adopted by Poynter on the issue of exorcism within the wider context of ‘Catholic Enlightenment’ thought on d

A total of 456 half-sib families of superior lodgepole pine (Pinus contorta Dougl. ex Loud. var. latifolia Engelm.) trees found mostly in high-elevation natural stands in west-central Alberta were outplanted in 1990 at two geoclimatically different sites, Norris and Redrock, Alberta. The trials were measured at age 6 for survival, height, and incidence and severity of western gall rust (WGR) (Endocronartium harknessii (J.P. Moore) Y. Hiratsuka). Survival at both sites was very similar (85-87%). Mean family height at Redrock was almost 10 cm higher (60.5 cm) than that at Norris (51.0 cm). Mean

However, such systems are rare: the only familiar examples are the Einstein solid and the two-state paramagnet, which limits the available questions for assignment or discussion. This work considers the more general p-state paramagnet and describes the modestly more complicated counting of its microstates. A survey of 1,665 parents of children aged six to 14 in Beijing, Nanjing and Chengdu was conducted in December 2001 to March 2002. Results indicated Chinese parents are classified primarily as consensual in type with both high socio‐ as well as concept‐oriented communication. Family com

Various stakeholders, including families and self-advocates, have voiced concerns about the dangers of restraint and seclusion and the lack of protection afforded to students who engage in severe problem behavior.
