Abstract:
Abstract From the experience of a U.S. Army Air Defense Artillery “battalion-plus” task force serving a 6-month rotation in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, we compiled the requirements for specialty consultations on deployed personnel in the predeployment screening phase, during deployment (including both inpatient hospitalizations and medical evacuations), and immediately upon return to home station. We required a wide variety of specialty expertise. In every phase of the operation, we consulted orthopedic surgery most often. Nonsurgical and surgical specialists were consulted in roughly equal numbers. Almost every field of adult medicine was represented in our sample. The distribution of consultations across specialties differs from what would be expected in combat but is similar to that seen in the few other studies of comparable populations. Excellent host nation support allowed us to use specialty expertise to an almost ideal extent. These data represent the most complete “snapshot” that has been taken of the requirements for specialty medical consultations in a military operation other than war (MOOTW). They demonstrate that under MOOTW conditions, even a healthy Army population requires the assistance of a full panel of medical specialties. They should serve as a benchmark for planners estimating the medical specialty needs that the Army must provide. Military medicine must provide access to essentially all medical specialties for personnel deployed under MOOTW conditions, whether through host nation support, telemedicine, or medical evacuation.

Abstract:
Abstract The main argument of this paper is that the logistical structures of rapid reaction forces offer great dual-use potential. It means they may be used in military operations other than war (MOOTW), such as civil defence or humanitarian assistance. The theoretical model of Haas, Kates and Bowden (1977) is presented in order to defend this argument, as it indicates the utility of intense military actions in the very first moments following a natural disaster due to their ability to rapidly respond in hard-to-access areas. The NATO Response Force humanitarian operation launched to assist the Pakistani government after a major earthquake in 2005 is presented as a practical example. The text concludes by arguing that the dual-use potential of military logistics is an important way to justify the high financial costs of rapid response forces in times of defence budget constraints while also providing other than war operations capabilities, such as civil defence support.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Moot court is a common practice in law schools and growing in popularity at the undergraduate level. As part of the move to incorporate more active learning elements, instructors in a variety of courses include moot court elements in their syllabi. Courses, however, are not the only place where undergraduate students encounter moot court. Increasingly, students compete in moot court at the intercollegiate level. This paper examines those students who compete in moot court tournaments sponsored by the American Moot Court Association to determine what motivates these students and what benefits these students believe they receive from their participation. Survey results show that students are motivated to participate in moot court for academic reasons, that they believe their critical thinking and public speaking skills improve, and that, despite its heavy work load and difficulty, moot court is also fun.

Abstract:

Moot courts are considered to be a common clinical legal education method. The purpose of the following article is to demonstrate advantages and disadvantages of using moot courts as a teaching method at high schools. This will be based on the experience of Street law assistants and their survey held among high school students. Gathered and analysed information will hopefully provide answers to the questions mentioned above. The article is divided into four parts. The first part introduces Charles University Law School Street Law course since it serves as prime source of our experience with high school students teaching and organising moot court. The second part deals with basic benefits and set backs of high school moot courts. The third part is dedicated to survey results presentation and the fourth part is composed of our experience of moot court organisation.

The purpose of our article is to offer basic information about the moot court simulation itself, present our survey research of high school students’ simulation perception and share our experience which might serve as encouragement for moot court organisation and also as basic advice on which common mistakes to avoid and what to pay close attention to.

Abstract:
The paper attempts to comprehend the place and role of moot courts in modern legal education. To achieve this goal, the concept and types of moot courts are considered. The author analyses the order of their organization and conduct as a business game in the course of studying an academic discipline (module) and as a competition (competition) among students of higher educational institutions. The main stages of preparing the team for participation in the modeling process are characterized. The author argues an opinion that there are significant advantages of using moot courts in legal education, and supports it with, apart from other things, the results of the author’s survey of students of Kutafin Moscow State University (MSAL) having taken part in different moot court competitions. The author also identifies some difficulties in the preparation of teams. The author concludes that moot courts have an important role in the training of highly qualified specialists to make them ready to solve complex legal issues and possess all the knowledge and skills necessary for this.

Abstract:

Among the internal and external environmental influences on human resource management, no other issue has more social, political, and economic implications than comparable worth. Identified as “the working women's issue of the 1980s” (Hutner, 1986; Willborn, 1986), comparable worth grew out of the recognition that increasing numbers of women are entering the workforce, that sex segregation exists in the labor force, and that working women are generally paid less than working men. Through a series of articles the authors present the history, current status, and emerging issues pertaining to this issue.

Abstract:

This paper starts by discussing ways in which the current teaching system at the Nigerian Law School reflects a clinical approach. Issues examined include classroom participation, court and law office attachment, law dinners, moot court and other practice week activities. Certain issues are problematised and options for improving clinical teaching methods for large multicultural classes are proffered. Central to the options proffered is a project management approach where, for instance, students do not just participate in a moot court session, but the class executes a moot court project. This means that every stage of the project is constructed as a distinct, but integral exercise in which students need to develop competencies. This would create the opportunity for students to develop ‘extended’ lawyering skills of project management, reporting and evaluation in addition to the already established skills of research, interviewing, counselling, negotiation, advocacy and so on, much in the same way as medical doctors in training are involved in public health projects, within which they practice community medicine. Clinical projects would as much as possible, accommodate personal skills preferences, while methods of assessment suited to each area of competence would be developed and applied as part of the overall assessment of students’ performance.
