AbstractThe Mordellidae of the Maritime provinces of Canada is surveyed. Thirty species have now been recorded from the region. Of these, 17 are newly recorded for Nova Scotia, 11 are newly recorded for Prince Edward Island, and 7 are newly recorded for New Brunswick, for a total of 35 new provincial records. Three species, Mordellistena indistincta Smith, Mordellistena rubrifascia Liljeblad, and Mordellistena rubrilabris Helmuth, are newly recorded for Canada, while a further 11 species, Mordella melaena Germar, Mordellistena aspersa (Melsheimer), Mordellistena errans Fall, Mordellistena moru

AbstractThe current interpretation of two common European species, Mordellistena minima Costa, 1854 and M. pseudorhenana Ermisch, 1977, is based on misidentification. The confusion regarding the identity of the species is fixed based on the revised type material. Here, the species are redescribed, and diagnostic characters are provided. Mordellistena pseudorhenana is revalidated. Mordellistena emeryi Schilsky, 1895 is recognised as a new synonym of M. minima. Mordellistena sajoi Ermisch, 1977 is recognised as a new synonym of M. pseudorhenana. Lectotype and paralectotypes of M. emeryi are desi

A complete list of the type material of Mordellidae described by Achille Costa is provided. Mordellistena picipes Costa, 1854 stat. restit. is restored as a valid species and a diagnostic description of the lectotype is given. Natirrica meridionalis Costa, 1854 is proposed as a new synonym of Mordellistena humeralis (Linnaeus, 1758). Lectotypes and paralectotypes are designated for the following taxa: Tomoxia bucephala Costa, 1854; Mordella coronata Costa, 1854 (= Variimorda villosa (Schrank, 1781)); M. interrupta Costa, 1854 (= Variimorda villosa (Schrank, 1781)); M. brevicauda Costa, 1854 (=

Sti

Abstract:
The mature larvae of Mordellistena luteipalpis Schilsky, 1895, M. koelleri Ermisch, 1956 and M. brevicauda (Bohemann, 1849) are described for the first time. The descriptions are illustrated with photographs of habitus and drawings of the key characters of the larvae. The larva of M. brevicauda differs significantly from the other known larvae of Mordellistena species by fused apical processes and 2-segmented antennae. Ecological data of all three species are presented and discussed. M. luteipalpis is recorded for the first time from Ukraine and Belarus.

Abstract:
Beetles of the genus Mordellistena Costa are submitted to a morphometric analysis as a more feasible method of identification and as a foundation for the construction of a phylogeny. In the past, species groups were based on questionable morphological characters and a morphological analysis is an attempt, through numerical methods, to eliminate such doubts. Thirty external characters were chosen for measurement in a preliminary statistical analysis of four well defined species groups. These results were submitted to a discriminant analysis which reduced the number of significant characters to
