Abstract:
Aren (Arenga pinnata) is a type of palm where almost all of its parts can be utilized, starting from the roots, stems, leaves, flowers, and fruit. Based on the growth rate of sugar palm can show the pattern of distribution using the Morisita index formula. The distribution pattern is a series that has settled on a symptom itself between individuals, which can be divided into three, namely uniform (regular), random (random), and clustered (clustered). This study aims to determine the distribution pattern of the sugar palm (Arenga pinnata) population based on the growth rate. This research was carried out in Sangtandung Village in July 2021. The data collection method used a purposive sampling technique by placing plots in an area with a sugar palm population following the river body 200 meters long. The distribution pattern of sugar palm based on the growth rate was analyzed using the Morisita index formula. Based on the Morishita index, the study results obtained a pattern of palm sugar distribution based on the growth rate, namely seedlings, saplings, trees with clustered patterns, and poles with uniform patterns.

Abstract:
Poropuntius tawarensis is an endemic fish of Laut Tawar that is currently classified as Endangered according to the IUCN Red List. The decline in its population is caused by habitat degradation, overfishing, and the introduction of alien species that act as predators This study aims to analyze the diversity and distribution patterns the population of kawan fish (Poropuntius tawarensis) in Lake Laut Tawar, Central Aceh Regency. Fish samples were collected from four different locations and analyzed using the Shannon-Wiener and Morisita indices. The results indicate that the diversity level of kawan fish (Poropuntius tawarensis) is classified as a "Low level of diversity," with significant differences between sampling locations. All locations (Hakim Balai Bujang: 0.796845; Toweren: 0.301815; Kelitu: 0.753952; Kala Segi: 0.467728) show a low level of diversity, which is H' 1. Analysis using the Standardized Morisita Index indicates that the distribution pattern of kawan fish (Poropuntius tawarensis) in the four study locations tends to be clumped dispersion. This is evidenced by Morisita index values greater than 1 at all sites (Hakim Balai Bujang: 1.2834; Toweren: 1.0212; Kelitu: 1.0053; Kala Segi: 1.0134). These values suggest that the fish tend to concentrate in specific areas within each village rather than being evenly distributed. Keywords:Poropuntius tawarensisLaut Tawar LakeDiversityDistribution Patterns

POPULATION STRUCTURE OF Manilkara huberi (Ducke) A. Chev. AND Dinizia excelsa Ducke IN AN UPLAND FOREST IN AMAPA ABSTRACT: The aim of this work was to analyze the diametric and spatial structure of the Manilkara huberi (Ducke) A. Chev. and Dinizia excelsa Ducke species. The diameters distribution was determined according to the Sturges methodology. The Meyer model was adjusted to estimate the number of individuals per diameter class. The spatial distribution pattern was estimated using the Morisita index. We found 1,372 individuals of M. huberi, where the data of their diametric structure were divided into 11 classes with an interval of 6.58 cm. In relation to specie D. excelsa, we found 100 individuals and their data generated 7 diameter classes with 12 cm interval. The diameter distribution of M. huberi individuals followed the J-inverted distribution, which is typical of uneven-aged natural forest, with an estimated "q" quotient of 1.39. On the other hand, the individuals of the D. excelsa species showed unbalanced in all class centers, not following the J-inverted distribution and estimated “q” quotient of 1.22. As for the spatial distribution, it was observed through the Morisita index that both species follow a grouped distribution in which the individuals are located close to the mother plant, therefore, the populations tend to be grouped. The species have an aggregate spatial distribution, subsidizing the exploitation of trees with aptitude for management, observing possible caveats for M. huberi specie. Keywords: De Liocourt quotient; Morisita index; ombrophylous forest.

Couser, Kristie. "Exhibiting Berthe Morisot after the Advent of Feminist Art History." VCU Scholars Compass, 2013. http://scholarscompass.vcu.edu/etd/484.

Full text
Abstract:
Feminist art historians reassessed French Impressionist Berthe Morisot (1841-1895) throughout the late twentieth and early twenty-first century, a period in which her work coincidentally received steady exposure in major museum exhibitions. This thesis examines how the feminist art historical project intersects with exhibitions that give prominence to Morisot’s work. Critical reviews by Morisot scholars argue that more frequent display of the artist’s work has not correlated to nuanced interpretation. Moreover, prominent feminist scholars and museum theorists maintain that curators virtually exclude their contributions. Attending to these recurrent concerns, this thesis charts shifts in emphases and inquiry in writing centered on Morisot to survey the extent to which curators convey new constructions of her artistic, social, and historical identities. This analysis will observe how distinct exhibition forms—the retrospective, the Impressionism blockbuster, and the gendered “women Impressionists” show—may frame Morisot’s work differently according to their organizing principles.

The consumption of oil and coal, responsible for attending 60% of the total energy demand between 1970 and 2015, is more likely to enhance the air pollution than the consumption of natural gas. Besides, some authors announce the impossibility of sustaining the demand of oil with conventional type only at around 2050, because of technical and economic constraints over the reserves. Technology has been playing a roll giving more flexibility to the interfuel substitution among fossil fuels, in many applications. That gives the opportunity to increase the share of natural gas in the primary mix, while reducing the consumptions of the other two. Moreover, the reserves of natural gas are larger in comparison with the ones of oil, allowing it to alleviate the pressure over the latter. From those perspectives, increasing the use of natural gas would contribute to reduce the negative environment externality and the extension of a possible shock to be unleashed in the energy supply. The objective of this dissertation is to seek for a substitutability between natural gas and the others fossil fuels in the primary energy demand, using the Morishima Elasticity of Substitution, between 1970 and 2015. The model started with a Translog cost function to obtain the input demand equations of each fuel and their cost share functions, applying Shephard’s lemma. The parameters of the econometric regression were estimated by the Seemingly Unrelated Regressions method, as means to measure the price elasticity, the Allen Elasticity of Substitution and the Morishima Elasticity of Substitution. The model was applied to the United States due to their significance in the global context of energy. The results showed that a single conclusion for the period as a whole is statistically insignificant. Based on own-price elasticities, there were clearly three structural brakes, statistically significant, which divided the time series in four intervals. In the interval 1970-1981, the natural gas had a complementary relation with oil and both were substitutes for coal. In the intervals 1982-1995 and 1996-2008, there was substitutability among natural gas and oil, although limited. In the most recent interval, all of the fuels were complements to each other. Putting together the elasticities of substitution and the price elasticities analysis, we conclude that factors exogenous to the free market relations, such as government interventions, were determinants to demand decisions. The lack of a continuous and consistent relation of substitution between natural gas and the other two fossil fuels, warns that the concerns presented in this work may have being neglected and a transition from a polluted and finite mix to another cleaner and renewable, bridged by natural gas, is not occurring in the world’s largest economy.

"A critical ethnography of Kreol Morisien as an optional language in primary education within the Republic of Mauritius." University of the Western Cape, 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/11394/5395.

Full text
Abstract:
Philosophiae Doctor - PhD
This research is a critical ethnography of KM in primary schools. Its purpose is to explore the link between heritage language and identity construction. My central research question is: how does the introduction of KM as an optional language in primary education shape Creole pupils' language identity construction in Mauritius? The research studied the overall impact of KM on two schools which I selected as research sites. Research participants were pupils of Standard I-II-III, head of schools, teachers and parents. I also selected some key informants. The study was placed within the international literature on heritage language and identity construction. The research is significant in the sense that it was conducted at the initial stages of the introduction of KM in schools. It might be of interest for future studies as its findings would serve to understand the place of KM in schools. At the same time looking at KM as a heritage language set against the 'ancestral languages' has not been done before. It contributes to other ways of looking at 'heritage' in a global world. I elaborated a conceptual framework based on classical Marxism, post-structural Marxism, French theories and post-colonial studies. I applied critically the theoretical lens in the Critical Theory Tradition which basically challenges the status quo. This study drew implications for language teaching policy and practice and the teaching of KM as a tool for empowerment and human agency. This research indicated the learners' views as to how their exposure to Kreol Morisien in the classroom shapes their ability to construct new, desired identities within local, national or global communities. The research design was based on a critical ethnographic approach whereby the researcher and the participants find themselves in a reciprocal human experience. Research instruments that were used were ethnographic interviews, class observations, document analysis complemented by the Delphi Method which is a forecast study of future trends. I got five findings. First, Creole consciousness movement underpinned the introduction of KM as an optional language in primary education. Second, parents chose KM on a purely utilitarian basis. Third, the curriculum and syllabus do not reflect and support the Creole identity and culture. Fourth, there was an invisibility and ambiguity about Creole culture in the school textbook. Finally, the pedagogy used to teach KM as an optional language created motivation and self-esteem. This study which was conducted during the first three years of the introduction of KM in two primary schools indicates that the presence of KM did not however, really enhance the identity of the Creole children as the curriculum, syllabus and textbook did not reflect and support the Creole culture and identity. KM was an additional language subject which certainly seduced by its novelty but it did not bring great changes as were expected. But KM does open avenues for adjustments and initiatives for an alternative programme in KM as heritage language and culture which could be implemented outside school. Such initiative would foster KM in its double identity of being both an ethnic and national language plus its future use as medium of instruction.

Thesis, Reims, 2015. http://www.theses.fr/2015REIML006.

Full text
Abstract:
This dissertation is the first translation of a Neo-Latin roman à clef entitled Peruviana (1644) which transposes to Peru the political and sentimental intrigues that took place in France under Louis XIII. This edition is accompanied with notes and preceded by a detailed introduction. The author of Peruviana, Claude-Barthélemy Morisot (April 12, 1592 – October 22, 1661), was a native of Dijon and belonged to a group of libertine scholars from the Republic of Letters during the first half of the 17th century. He is the author of several scholarly works, but Peruviana is his only novel. The first part of the introduction provides contextual elements about the narrative and its author, while also giving some of the keys to read the novel. The second part consists of a narratological analysis which deals with its literary issues and the use of sources – especially classical literature ; the confrontation between the referents and the structure of the plot highlights the steganographic and political dimension of this novel, a point on which third part of this study sheds light. It then becomes clear that thanks to the use of analogy and metaphor – which are characteristic devices of romans à clefs – the author conceived his work as a utopia in which the historical mechanisms reflecting those of the Cosmos might be apprehended and harmonized through a benevolent art that would take into account all the aspects and states of the social Materia(l) in order to lead it to an (almost) ideal fulfilment. This alchemical reading reveals that the entire novel is a metaphor of the Magnum Opus, whose architect would be the Poet offering the product of his wisdom to the future of mankind

Abstract:
Abstract This chapter examines theoretical and methodological processes associated with the proposal to create technical vocabulary in Kreol Morisien for mathematics and astronomy. Drawing on the eco-sociolinguistic epistemological stance of Oozeerally et al. (2014), and an ongoing MIE-funded research project, this chapter uses a sample corpus from a Grade 7 Mathematics book and an online astronomy glossary to test the transcontextual vehicularity (TcV) framework, as well as the preferences of potential users based on reception tests. It also discusses the challenges involved with developing a special-purpose lexicography for Kreol Morisien, considering the multilingual context and the standardisation efforts in Mauritius. It also aims to contribute to research and policy endeavours related to lexicology, lexicography, and language planning in multilingual contexts.

Abstract:
The species Turnera subulata Sm. (Turneraceae) has a wide distribution in Brazil, being used for ornamental, medicinal and food purposes. Despite this, information on the ecology of the species is still scarce. Thus, the present work aimed to analyze the population structure of the species T. subulata in an area of the municipality of Itabaiana, Sergipe. In the study area, 10 plots of 1m² were plotted and the number of individuals was counted and the height and diameter of the stem were measured at their ground height. With these data, the density and spatial dispersion of Morisita were calculated for the total population and for each ontogenetic stage, as well as a Spearman correlation analysis between the stages. The individuals were also distributed into diametric (range 0.5 cm) and hypsometric (range 5 cm) frequency classes. A total of 57 individuals were counted (AD = 5.7 ind.m²), among them 41 were adults (AD = 4.1 ind.m²) and 16 were regenerative (AD = 1.6 ind.m²). The total population (Id = 0.86) and adults (Id = 0.84) presented random distribution, while the regenerating ones (Id = 1.17) were aggregated. The correlation between ontogenetic stages was negative and significant (r = -0.83; t = 4.28; p = 0.0027). The distribution pattern of the individuals in diametric and hypsometric frequency classes differed from the inverted "J". The results indicate that the studied population is predominantly composed of adults and that there is no self-regeneration, suggesting that T. subulata is being replaced by other species in the area.

Abstract:

Abstract:
