Abstract:
This paper argues against a number of accounts found in dictionaries of Russian word-formation and shows that the verb vstat' ‘stand up' (1) even synchronically is derived from stat' ‘become' and (2) is formed via the prefix vz- rather than v-. We provide semantic, historical, morphophonemic, and typological arguments in favor of this analysis. We argue that the verb vstat' is morphologically complex, but not fully analyzable due to a lack of formal transparency. The affix-root overlap found in the verb vstat' refers to a distinct pattern of Russian historical morphophonemics. Our findings conform to the theory of gradient structures in morphology (Hay & Baayen 2005) and contribute an additional type to the degrees of analyzability described in Panov 1968 & 1999 and Kubrjakova 1970.

This study examines process of morphophonemics in Japanese language. This qualitative study used content analysis as the research design approaching the analysis in qualitative approach. Corpus of this study included words, phrases, sentences and discourse obtained from the two Japanese texts for children: minna no nihongo and Japenese films. Data were analyzed using interactive model: reduction, display, verification and conclusion drawing implementing morphophonemics theory of Koizumi. The study revealed that morphophonemics as a process order between morphology and phonology of a language occured in the Japanese texts for children stiries and the films: including fuka, sakujo, chikau, zero setsuji.

Abstract:
This paper critically reviews S. J. Keyser and Paul Kiparsky's “Syllable Structure in Finnish Phonology” (1984). We also treat Finnish morphophonemics using a CV-tier analysis, but account for forms that their method fails on. We posit six stem types in the verbal lexicon and derive the forms of all inflections of all types with just twelve morphophonemic rules. After the stems are modified and suffixes (and person/number endings) are attached, a single, general, phonological rule of Consonant Gradation applies postlexically. To develop a general theory from our analysis, we consider restrictions on rules which may alter stems: lexical rules apply to stems before affixation and only to the final segments of stems; only post-lexical phonological rules apply to affixes. We eliminate all morphological conditions on individual rules and extrinsic ordering conditions.

Abstract:
The article aims to analyze which allomorphs occur more accurately in English and what factors determine them. The problems that the researchers examine enable English learners and readers to pronounce English words, in this case, English morphemes. The theory employed by the researchers is morphophonemics, dealing with how morphemes alter their appearance or pronunciation in response to the sounds that surround them in a given piece of content. The approach or method that the researchers use in this article is descriptive qualitative method based on the data. The findings that the researchers come across are as follows: (a) the definitive article, (b) the definitive article, (c) Derivation, (d) Irregular verbs, (e) Past tense marker (-ed), (f) Present tense morpheme, (g) Plural noun markers, (h) Possessive markers. It can be seen that the shape or pronunciation of an English word depends on the linguistic environment in which it occurs, and it is obvious that morphophonemic change involves not only replacing but also changing the phonological shape of a morpheme. Based on the data, the researchers find that there are two basic types of allomorph, such as morphophonemic changes and suppletion. The researchers also attend to the theory of Pike, stating that sounds tend to be influenced by their environments.

Abstract:
This research discusses morphophonemic phenomena in the Javanese language in Bengkalis with a focus on sound changes that occur at the morpheme level. Morphophonemics, as a linguistic study that explores the relationship between morphemes (minimal meaning units) and phonemes (minimal sound units), is a theoretical basis for describing morphemic sound changes in Javanese. This study used a descriptive qualitative method. Research data was obtained from the results of Javanese speech by speakers. Research data was obtained from the results of data collection techniques using the listen, speak, note method. The data analysis technique is carried out through the following stages: 1) observing research data; 2) Transcription of research data; 3) Translating research data; 4) Classifying research data; 5) Analyzing changes in nasal meaning according to theory; 6) Draw conclusions from the research results. The research results show that the Javanese language on the island of Bengkalis experiences several morphophonemic phenomena, including changes in phonemes, addition of phonemes, and deletion of sounds at the morpheme level. If the prefix (N-) meets the phoneme /p/ it will change to /m/. Likewise with the prefixes (Sa-) and (Pa-), if they meet the initial phoneme of a vowel, the phoneme /a/ will disappear. Concrete examples are given to illustrate sound changes that occur in various morphemic contexts.

Abstract:
Every language has differences and similarities in its linguistic systems. This is based on the assumption that the languages used by humans around the world come from one common ancestor. However, there are phenomena which are peculiar to each language. Morphophonemic alternation is a universal phenomenon. This means that all languages have this phenomenon. However, there are interesting peculiarities, for example, the morphophonemic alternations in agglutinative languages differ from isolating languages, tonal languages and inflecting languages. Lamaholot language is is not agglutinative, nor is it anlative (?) nor is it tonal. As a language characterized by neither agglutination, isolation nor tone, Lamaholot language has interesting morphophonemic phenomena to study. There is an elision or elimination of sounds, there is the addition or insertion of sounds, there is the preservation of sounds and certain sounds that are altered due to the addition of other sounds. This uniqueness occurs because Lamaholot Language does not have verb affixes as a strategy for morphophonemic change.

The “weak” triliteral stems of Standard Arabic have been studied in considerable detail by Arab as well as Western grammarians. In most cases, however, the treatment has been largely limited to listing and classifying the primary data, which satisfies observational adequacy but fails to meet the essential requirements of descriptive adequacy, simplicity and generality. In a few cases rules have been proposed, but these rules fall short of expectations: on the whole, they strike the user as complex, arbitrary and unmotivated. Drawing on the theory of Generative-Transformational Grammar, I have formulated a small set of rules which seek to satisfy all of the three essential requirements, and thus render the subject more palatable to scholars as well as learners of Standard Arabic.

Abstract:
Summary Jacques Bruyas (c.l630-c.l701) left a set of notes on Mohawk in the late 1600s which were published in 1862. His account and work done on the language in the 20th century are compared. Where he fails to record all the sound-contrasts that are functional in the language and is unable to cope with allophones, modern workers may still disagree on how best to represent them. His lack of models for the description of a polysynthetic language, with a modest phonemic inventory, but complex morphophonemics, obscures morphemic boundaries. Bruyas had the reputation among contemporaries of being equally fluent in French and Mohawk, yet his notes fail to mention factors that are obviously frequent, complex and demanded for accurate communication. While the vocabulary in his account is perhaps better handled than in modern works, the selection is more guided by human interest than grammatical relevance.

Abstract:
This study carries out an analysis using the framework of Optimality Theory to investigate the acquisition of the morphophonemics of JA triconsonantal verbs. The analyzed data consist of speech samples obtained from a picture/action naming task as well as spontaneous speech collection. The sample of the study consists of 64 normally developing children who are acquiring spoken Jordanian Arabic as their mother tongue. The participants whose ages range from 2;1 to 6 years are selected randomly from different preschools in two Jordanian cities. The major findings of the study suggest that children overcome the morphological complexity of Arabic verbs by applying a number of processes, including: cluster simplification, glottalization, and truncation. The OT analysis indicates that these processes are associated with highly-ranked markedness constraints and lower-ranked faithfulness constraints in child grammar. In addition, the root/affix asymmetry triggers unmarked patterns to emerge in the affix. Finally, the results display that children’s morphophonological abilities improve with age and that the majority of children’s morphophonological processes disappear at age six years.

This minor study aims at describing learners’ features of pronunciation in terms of their suprasegmental aspects found in their speech. Students were asked to read aloud a text entitled The Gorilla Joke from the © BBC British Council 2006. Students oral narrations were then analysed in terms of their intonation pattern and stress assignment in sentence level. A metrical analysis was also used to show how students produced their speech rhythm. The result of the analysis shows that given the same text to read students may produce various combination of intonation patterns. Students also misplaced stress within the syllables or assigned no stress at all. Based on the metrical phonology analysis, learners did not assign foot timely based on the timing units in connected speeches. The speech production is more like a broken speech. Students also neglected the morphophonemics rules in which they did not produce the appropriate allomorphs [t], [d], and [id] in the past participle words. These features bring about some pedagogical implication. Keywords: student’ pronunciation features, suprasegmental aspects

Abstract:
Gussmann (1980) has presented an analysis of Polish morphophonemics within the framework of SPE (Chomsky & Halle, 1968). His treatment appeals extensively to underlying representations containing segments which never appear in surface representations. He justifies this use of absolute neutralization with the claim that other rules of Polish phonology appeal to such underlying forms. Rubach (1984) has reanalysed much of Gussmann's description within the framework of Kiparsky's (1982) Lexical Phonology, retaining the analysis of the neutralized segments and even adding to the inventory of abstract elements. The arguments presented by both scholars are a paradigm of elegance and ingenuity, representing generative phonological analysis at its best. However, the considerable reliance they put on abstract underlying representations, morphologically conditioned rules, extrinsic rule ordering and other devices which give rise to a high degree of opacity arouses suspicion. For this reason I have sought to re-examine some of their material within a more ‘concrete’ interpretation of Lexical Phonology, making use of recent ideas from theories of non-linear phonology and theories of allomorphy.

Abstract:
This article revisits the morphophonology of Thangmi, a Tibeto-Burman language spoken in Nepal by a community group of the same name whose grammar and lexicon I was involved in documenting from 1996 onwards. The Thangmi (Nepali Thāmī) are an ethnic group who number around 30,000 and inhabit the central eastern hills of Nepal. The Thangmi are autochthonous to the upper reaches of Dolakhā district as well as to the eastern valleys of Sindhupālcok district, and their hitherto undocumented Tibeto-Burman language has two distinctly recognisable and mutually unintelligible dialects. Morphophonology (also known as morphophonemics) explores the interaction between morphology and phonology, and is predicated on a rigorous investigation of the phonological variations within morphemes that oftentimes mark different grammatical functions. While complex, Thangmi morphophonology lends itself to transparent interpretation, and this paper offers a modified analysis that builds on and develops from my earlier work (Turin 2012, 2005). Following a brief introduction to Thangmi segmental phonology, this article covers four aspects central to Thangmi morphophonology: the remnants of what may be a defunct liquid-nasal alternation, a brief overview of assimilation, a robust review of intervocalic approximants and finally a brief note on syncope.

Abstract:
This project looks at Arabic word generation from a computational angle. It focuses on the computational production and analysis of morphological Arabic nouns. The work begins with a stem-based descriptive analysis of Arabic noun morphology that fulfills both the computational formalization and the linguistic description. There includes a thorough discussion of both inflectional and derivational systems. The spelling of Arabic nouns is also covered, as well as morphotactics and morphophonemics. The work then offers a computer implementation of Arabic nouns built on a rule-based computational morphological methodology. The overall system is constructed using the NooJ toolkit, which supports both pushdown automata and finite-state automata (FSA) (PDA). Three elements make up the morphological generation and analysis system: a lexicon, morphotactics, and rules. The lexicon component catalogs lexical elements (indivisible words and affixes), the morphotactics component specifies ordering restrictions for morphemes, and the rules component converts lexical representations into surface representations and vice versa. Other rules, such as orthographic, morphophonemic, and morphological rules, are also stored as two-level rules. The core editable lexicon of lemmas used as input by the system is drawn from three sources: the Buckwalter Arabic morphological analyzer lexicon, the Arramooz machine-readable dictionary, and the Alghani Azzahir dictionary. A complete annotated vocabulary of inflected noun forms (combined into a single type of finite-state transducers (FSTs)) is the system's output. The lexicon that was developed is then put to use in morphological analysis. The study then offers the system's evaluation. Accuracy, precision, and recall are three widely used metrics to assess the system's performance. Two empirical experiments will be conducted as part of the evaluation task. The system analyzing Arabic words that have been discredited morphologically is evaluated in the first experiment. Accuracy, precision, and recall for the system when employing discredited Arabic words are (90.4%), (98.3%), and (88.9%), respectively. The technique is tested in a second experiment using undiacritical words. The achieved outcomes of this experiment were (94.7%) accuracy, (96.7%) precision, and (91.6% ) recall, respectively. Additionally, the measurement average for the two tests has been determined. The average performance values are respectively (92.55%), (97.5%), and (90.25) percent in terms of recall, precision, and accuracy. Overall, the results are encouraging and demonstrate the system's propensity for dealing with both diacritically and undiacritically written Arabic texts. This system can analyze Arabic text corpora in-depth and tag nouns according to their morphological characteristics. It breaks the word under analysis into three pieces (the stem, proclitics/prefixes, and suffixes/enclitics) and assigns each one a specific morphological feature tag or possibly many tags if the portion in question has numerous clitics or affixes. Many applications of natural language processing, including parsing, lemmatization, stemming, part-of-speech (POS) tagging, corpus annotations, word sense disambiguation, machine translation, information retrieval, text generation, spelling checkers, etc., depend on computational morphology. It is made up of morphological generation and analysis paradigms. According to a set of features, morphological generation attempts to construct every feasible derived and inflected form of a given lemma. On the other hand, morphological analysis is the process of dissecting a word into its component morphemes and giving each morpheme linguistic tags or qualities.

Abstract:
A movie is a form of literature that contains linguistic features in its script. The script of a movie uttered by the actors has many interesting linguistic aspects that can be studied. Hence, this study aims to identify the morphophonemic processes in the movie "Fool's Day". The data of this study was obtained from the movie script, and a descriptive qualitative method was employed to analyze it. This study showed that morphophonemic processes frequently occurred in the script and involved the more basic processes. The findings indicate four types of the morphophonemic process throughout the movie script: schwa, voicing assimilation, vowel lengthening, and vowel changing. It was found that vowel changing processes are most frequent in the movie "Fool's Day" script

Abstract:
ABSTRACTThis study explores the development in children of dual-level phonological processing. Evidence suggesting that 6-year-olds form underlying representations composed of morphophonemic segments was obtained by asking children to imitate complex words, omit specified portions, and discuss the meaning of the resulting word parts. Trial items represent a variety of instances in which phonetic forms differ from underlying representations. Although language-advanced first graders produced stronger evidence suggesting morphophonemic segments than language-delayed age-mates, and young adults supplied stronger evidence than either first-grade group; strength of evidence leads to the interpretation that even language-delayed 6-year-olds form morphophonemic segments. Differences in performance between groups probably derive from differences in metalinguistic abilities and linguistic experience rather than from differences in units of phonological processing.

Abstract:
This study is mainly concerned with the morphophonemic changes as one of the of the common and essential processes in the English derivation on the one hand , and as a problematic area for English language learners on the other hand . This study aims at investigating the difficulties encountered Iraqi EFL university learners in their pronouncing of morphophonemic changes . To achieve the aim above the present study hypothesizes that : the learners do not encounter difficulties in the pronunciation morphophonemic changes . The hypothesis has been verified through adopting a diagnostic test of two questions . The test has been applied to a sample of 140 Iraqi EFL learners at their fourth year from department of English , College of Education ,University of Wasit during the academic year 2010-2011.Then the subjects' responses have been collected and analyzed to draw the findings of this study. The analysis gives the following results : 1-Iraqi EFL university learners face difficulties in the pronunciation of morphophonemic changes as the highest rate of their incorrect responses in Q1 , Q2 ( 66.7,58.67 ) which outweighs the rate of their correct responses (33.7, 41.33). 2-The students face more difficulty at the production level than the recognition level. In the light of the results , certain recommendations and suggestions have been put for further studies.

This study is aimed at finding out what morphological processes and morphological rules represented in Fore Language in Papua New Guinea. The data were morphophonemic and taken from “Laboratory Manual for Morphology and Syntax” Seventh Edition written by Merrified et.al., and published in 2003 about Fore Language of Papua New Guinea. The data consist of pronoun markers including first singular (1s), second singular (2s), third singular (3s), and first plural (1p). The Item-and-Process was used to analyze the morphophonemic data. The researcher found that to construct the person markers in Fore Language, the underlying form of the words should be substituted, inserted, or deleted after attached to the underlying form of the suffix. The rests of the findings will be discussed further. Keywords: morphological process; fore language; person marker; morphophonemic; item-and-process

Abstract:
Malay (Rumi) is alphabetic and has a transparent, agglutinative system of affixation. We manipulated language-specific junctural phonetics in Malay and English to investigate whether morphophonemic L1-knowledge influences L2-processing. A morpheme decision task, “Does this <nonword> sound like a mono- or bi-morphemic English word?”, was developed by crossing English Transitional Probability (high vs. low) with Malay Transitional Possibility (possible vs. impossible). The data for Malay-L1/English-L2 adults (N = 21) provide clear and reliable empirical evidence of L1-to-L2 morphophonemic transfer: Participants were more accurate at identifying transitional boundaries in English when they are also possible in Malay. Pedagogical implications are discussed.

Abstract:
SUMMARY It is maintained that the basic semiotic concepts of icon and index in the Peircean sense give the best tools for both describing and explaining change. The notion of iconic index is used to explicate assimilation, morphophonemics, sociolectal pronunciation variation, grammatical agreement, and semantic change. In all these cases, the iconic index gives an accurate and insightful explanation. As a real demonstration of the worth of the concept of the iconic index, drastic lexical change is analyzed through the examples of Cockney rhyming slang and Australian avoidance (e.g., 'mother-in-law') languages. The iconic index also allows one to draw some parallels to certain Western taboos. Even in these instances of drastic lexical change, the iconic index holds its ground as a descriptive and explanatory tool.

Abstract:
English verbs have unique inflectional markers which show the past tense. There are two inflectional markers that become the categorization of these verbs. The first marker is the additional morpheme [d] or [ed]. All verbs with this marker are categorized as regular verbs. The second marker is the verb morphophonemic change like the word ‘sing’ [+present] and ‘sang’ [+past]. The verbs of this kind are categorized as irregular’ verbs. Simply, the regular verbs are those whose changes can be morphophonemically predicted while irregular verbs are the ones whose changes are morphophonemically unpredictable. This research is aimed to figure out whether there are morphophonemic inflectional patterns for irregular verbs. This paper is descriptive qualitative research. The data were collected using observation with note taking technique. I analyzed the data using distributional method. The result of the analysis shows that there are four additional sounds added to the ’regular’ verbs such as [d], [t], [ɪd], and [əd]. I also found that the morphophonemic changes in the irregular verbs are influenced by the syllable number, the positions, and the environments of the peak sounds. These findings prove that the term “irregular and regular” is not fully appropriate to classify the verbs.

Abstract:
This study aims to describe morphophonemic processes which result in consonant geminates as well as to classify types of consonant geminates in Simalungun language. Types of geminates in this study are analyzed from the morphophonemic processes resulted in consonant geminates and from the true or fake types of geminates. The data analyzed in this paper is collected during a short fieldwork in Pematang Raya Kecamatan Raya (Raya district), Simalungun regency, Sumatra Utara Province. From the analysis, it can be concluded that consonant geminates in Simalungun language always occur word-medially. Consonant geminates found in this language are [pp], [tt], [kk], [ss], [ll], [gg], [nn] and [mm]. Based on the morphophonemic processes, geminates in Simalungun language can be divided into four types: (1) consonant geminates resulted from assimilation of a nasal to a following homorganic stop, (2) consonant geminates resulted from velarization and assimilation, (3) assimilation of heterorganic consonant clusters and (4) nasal geminates. Regarding true and fake type of geminates, true geminates in Simalungun are found morpheme-internally or lexicalized; fake geminates are resulted from affixation and clitization. True geminates in Simalungun are [pp], [tt], [ss], [kk], [gg] and [mm], while the fake geminates found in this language are [ss], [kk], [ll] and [nn].

Abstract:
The Turkish language is one of the languages which people nowadays learn. The Turkish language belongs to agglutinative language with a slight border between words and their morpheme, yet it has a clear border amongst the morphemes. There is a vowel harmony in the Turkish language where the sound of the last vowel of the stem affects the vowel’s sound of the attached suffixes. The existence of the vowel harmony triggers the change of the sound of the attached morphemes which their function is as suffixes. This study analyzes the morphophonemic process of Turkish verbs using the Word and Paradigm approach. The data of this study are the oral data of Turkish verbs got from the social media of YouTube. The data are collected by observing and noting. The morphophonemic process affected by the change of the sound is later analyzed using the padan method and Word and Paradigm or WP approach from the data collection. Through the approach, the word-formation rules are made for later, the effectiveness of the Word and Paradigm approach is studied in the morphophonemic analysis of Turkish verbs. The results show that there are different kinds of word-formation, and the WP approach effectively analyses Turkish verbs.

Abstract:
Foreign terms from English into Indonesian in Indonesian dictionary the fourth edition is analyzed based on morphophonemic. Morphophonemic based translation process is based on the form (Form-based translation) and translation based on meaning (Meaning-based translation) (Larson, 1984). The shape of these foreign terms will be analyzed using the theory of generative phonology transformation (Schane, 1992) which is based on the change in morpheme formation of foreign terms to find the meaning of the translation process either BSu or the meaning of the grammatical BSa. This study uses a tool agih determining precisely which part of the language in question (Sudaryanto, 1993:15). This research method has three techniques, namely (1) elicitation, (2) a large library Indonesian Dictionary Fourth Edition (2012) and English dictionary, and (3) the recording or transcription. The results of this study is the term foreign English into Indonesian spelling is undergoing a process of adjustment in accordance with the rules of phonotactics in Indonesian so that it can pass through several stages to thank the suffixes are morphophonemic adjustments and not be separated from the shift in the meaning of BSU to BSA so that the reader the foreign term to understand the intended meaning of the presence of foreign terms.

Abstract:
The study aims to identify the level of knowledge of grammar content among Tamil language teachers at the secondary school level in aspects of phonology, morphology, syntax and morphophonemic. This study uses a quantitative research survey in the form of a descriptive design carried out in Selangor. A total of 160 Tamil language teachers in secondary schools in the state of Selangor were selected as a random sample. Questionnaires were used as instruments in this study. The data obtained were analyzed using SPSS software version 22.0. The findings of the study showed that secondary school Tamil teachers had a moderately high perception of the Tamil grammatical content of Form Four (M = 3.23, SP =.697). The study also found that the level of knowledge of Tamil grammar content was moderately low (M = 2.98, SP =.334) by following phonology (M = 3.26, SP =.560), morphology (M = 3.14, SP =.589), syntax (M = 2.85, SP =.716), and morphophonemic (M = 2.67, SP =.585). The implication obtained through this study is that the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE) is proposing to emphasize the importance of aspects of Tamil grammar, namely phonology, morphology, syntax, and morphophonemic. As a result of this, teachers who teach Tamil will be able to realize the importance of mastering the content of Tamil grammar.
