Behavioral health emergencies typically involve agitation with autonomic instability. Many medical and psychiatric conditions can precipitate agitation that could necessitate rapid response interventions. Non-pharmacologic therapies can be useful to modulate agitation or delirium, but the mainstay of pharmacologic treatment is either antipsychotics or benzodiazepines, depending on the underlying problem.
