Abstract:
Introduction: The objective of this study was to compare fragmentation efficiency of the conventional regular mode of holmium laser to the Moses contact mode on a stone simulator. Methods: The Lumenis® PulseTM P120 H holmium laser system, together with Moses D/F/L fibers were used to compare regular mode with Moses contact mode in a stone simulator model using flexible ureteroscopy with artificial stones. Efficiency of laser lithotripsy was measured by procedural time. Degree of stone retropulsion was also compared between regular and Moses modes using a Likert scale from 0 (no retropulsion) to 3 (maximum retropulsion). Results: Using the stone simulator model, a significant reduction in stone retropulsion was noticed when comparing regular mode to the Moses contact mode (mean Grade 2.5 vs. Grade 1; p<0.01). When compared with the regular mode, the Moses contact mode was associated with significantly shorter procedural time during fragmentation (13.9 vs. 9.1 minutes; p≤0.01) and dusting (9.3 vs. 7.1 minutes; p≤0.01). In addition, when compared with the regular mode, the laser pedal was pressed significantly less often with the Moses mode during fragmentation (86 vs. 43 times; p<0.01) and dusting (50 vs. 26 times; p<0.01). Moses contact mode was associated with significantly higher percentage of lasing vs. pausing when compared with the regular mode for both fragmentation (0.8 J/10 Hz) and pulverization (0.4 J/50 Hz) settings (both p<0.05).Conclusions: Using the stone simulator setup, Moses technology was associated with more efficient laser lithotripsy (shorter operative time) due to significantly reduced stone retropulsion.

Abstract:
The phenomenon of the Court Jew does not cease to fascinate us. Our attention is at first drawn by the contrast of Jews as advisers and confidantes to princes and monarchs, not infrequently in a kingdom or duchy which otherwise forbade residence to Jews, or, if it did allow it, segregated them in ghettos with the concomitant disabilities that results from such a status. The image of these court factors (Hoffaktor, Hofjude) is further enhanced by their use of the trappings of the eighteenth century nobility, while, more often than not, they not only adhered to the faith of their fathers, but actively worked for and interceded on behalf of their co-religionists.

Abstract:
Abstract This article investigates the implications of Moses’ unshod feet within the Burning Bush pericope (Exodus 3.1–4.17). Traditionally, scholars observe that the act of removing one’s shoes is merely a sign of ancient honour, conveying to Moses that he is on holy ground. Here, the author suggests, however, that through a narrative-geographical reading, additional insights can be gleaned – specifically, that Moses is being asked to participate as an embodied person, with all his senses. He is literally being ‘grounded’ in this experience, through his unshod feet. The author also argues that a larger creational relationship is implied – expressly, that Moses is the new (re)creational partner (adam), and through this bare-footed encounter is being connected back to creational purposes, via the adamah. Finally, inasmuch as Pentecostal readers of the Bible seek an ongoing experience of the Spirit, the author suggests that this narrative-geographical reading complements and re-energizes our whole-bodied spirituality and expectations of divine encounter.

Abstract:
Abstract Building MT systems with the Moses toolkit is a task so complex that it is rarely done manually. Over the years, several frameworks for building, running, and evaluating Moses systems have been developed, most notably the Experiment Management System (EMS). While EMS works well for standard experimental set-ups and offers good web integration, designing new experimental set-ups within EMS is not trivial, especially when the new processing pipeline differs considerably from the kind EMS is intended for. In this paper, I present M4M (Makefiles for Moses), a framework for building and evaluating Moses MT systems with the GNU Make utility. I illustrate the capabilities by a simple set-up that builds and compares two different systems with common resources. This set-up requires little more than putting training, tuning and evaluation data into the right directories and running Make.1 The purpose of this paper is twofold: to guide first-time users of Moses through the process of building baseline MT systems, and to discuss some lesser-known features of the Make utility that enable the MT practitioner to set up complex experimental scenarios efficiently. M4M is part of the Moses distribution.
