Abstract:
Abstract Medical x-ray imaging is used to visualise patients’ anatomical structures and in some cases their physiology. X-rays are ionizing radiation, thus their use needs to be optimised, as stochastic effects are assumed to increase linearly with the exposure dose. Imaging protocols need to be optimised to a radiation dose level that follows the as low as reasonably achievable principle without compromising the diagnostic value of the image. Different methods can be used to help in the optimisation process, such as simulations, radiation dose and image quality assessments with dosimeters and

The objective of this work is to use MOSFET dosimeters to accurately measure surface dose delivered during CT examinations in various scanning conditions. To achieve this, the behaviour of MOSFETs under kilovoltage x-ray irradiation first needed to be investigated. A dose-to-dose reproducibility of 4.5%, and a mean change in sensitivity response of 10.4% with accumulated dose were measured. A Monte Carlo model of the x-ray source of a PQ5000 CT simulator was built and validated in order to investigate the MOSFET response characteristics and perform dose calculations. In the European XFEL, electrons bunches are accelerated up to 20 GeV and thenenter undulators where coherent X-rays are produced which can be used for imaging atva molecular level. Electrons may stray from the path and hit the permanent magnets inthe undulators. It is well known that ionizing radiation can affect the magnetic characteristics of permanent magnets. The undulators are therefore equipped with a type of semiconductor dosimeters, RADFETs, so that the potential damage from ionizing radiation to the magnets can be measured and corrected for. Abstract:

Patients undergoing cardiac catheterization are potentially at risk of radiation-induced health effects from the interventional fluoroscopic X-ray imaging used throughout the clinical procedure. The amount of radiation exposure is highly dependent on the complexity of the procedure and the level of optimization in imaging parameters applied by the clinician. For cardiac catheterization, patient radiation dosimetry, for key organs as well as whole-body effective, is challenging due to the lack of fixed imaging protocols, unlike other common X-ray based imaging modalities.

Pediatric pa

Abstract:
In the current study, we present measurements of peripheral dose that is absorbed by specific radio-sensitive organs outside the radiation field for five clinical cases, and compare them with the corresponding values that are given by ISIS 3D Treatment Planning System, as well as with the values given by a software that can calculate peripheral doses called ‘Peridose’. The measurements were made with MOSFET dosimeters in anthropomorphic phantom.
Στην παρούσα εργασία, παρουσιάζουμε μετρήσεις της περιφερειακής δόσης που απορροφάται από συγκεκριμένα ακτινευαίσθητα όργανα εκτός του πεδίου ακτιν

The risk of secondary cancer associated with low doses of ionizing radiation, is gaining new interest every day, especially in long term surviving patients. The unavoidable amount of the scattered dose, which is absorbed by radiosensitive tissues/organs away from the irradiated treatment site, known as peripheral dose (PD), is the outcome of secondary irradiation sources while it influences the treatment parameters. Since the associated cancer risk is likely to be much lower but not insignificant from such low doses this may affect the choice of treatment options adopted. In this study, we per
