Abstract:
<strong>Background:</strong> Following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, published research from Vietnam related to the pandemic was analysed using bibliometrics.<strong>Objectives:</strong> To examine the status of research on COVID-19 by authors from Vietnam.<strong>Methods:</strong> The following bibliometric aspects were considered in the analysis: international collaboration, institutions from Vietnam and their partner institutions worldwide, subjects and topics, types of documents, and individual authors. The basis of the study was data obtained from the Scopus database between 2020 and 2021. The data were analysed using Microsoft Excel, R, and VOSviewer, and the emerging trends illustrated through descriptive analysis and science mapping. <strong>Results:</strong> Between 2020 and 2021, researchers from Vietnam co-authored 1034 documents related to COVID-19, amounting to 0.35% of the total of 296,148 such documents published worldwide as ascertained from the Scopus database. Vietnam&rsquo;s top country collaborators in that research were USA, Australia, the United Kingdom, India, and Taiwan ROC. The top Vietnam institutions were Duy Tan University, Ton Duc Thang University, and the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City. The research from Vietnam covered many subjects, from medicine and natural sciences to social sciences and economics. Eight clusters of topics related to COVID-19 were identified. In terms of citations, the most highly cited documents were the outcome of collaboration with international authors. Lastly, the study ranked top authors based on either the number of publications or the number of citations. <strong>Conclusion:</strong> This study provides a preliminary picture of studies related to COVID-19 co-authored by researchers in Vietnam. The picture may help the Vietnam government in devising appropriate strategies for post-COVID-19 restoration of the country&rsquo;s socio-economic status.

Abstract:
Although numerous studies recently have appeared that identify the most-cited scholars and works in the general criminology and criminal justice literature and in several specialty areas, no previous citation study has specifically examined the corrections literature. Through an analysis of 209 articles and research notes appearing from 1992 to 1996 in the area of corrections, the authors list the 50 most-cited scholars and the 25 most-cited works. The lists of the most-cited scholars and works in corrections are compared to general lists taken from leading criminology and criminal justice journals and introductory textbooks. The authors' analysis uncovers certain citation trends relating to pivotal controversies in correctional research.

Abstract:
Osteoporosis is a systemic disease of the bone that affects millions of people and causes burden for both the affected individual and health systems and societies worldwide. Since the 1970s much research has been done in the field of osteoporosis. The number of citations of a paper reflects its influence and importance to the field. Thomson ISI Web of Science database was searched to retrieve a list of the fifty most cited articles related to osteoporosis and its research. The fifty most cited articles in absolute numbers in the field of osteoporosis were cited from 877 to 3056 times (mean1141±537). Most papers were published in the basic science category(n=23). 395 authors contributed; a single paper had between one and 62 authors (mean:10.02±9.9authors). 12 authors (3.04%) contributed between 7 and 4 papers; 340 authors (86.1%) were at least named once. Corresponding authors were from eight countries with most contributions from the United States (n=34, 68%). The majority of papers were published in the 1990s(n=29). The list of 50 most cited papers presents citation classics in the field of osteoporosis and related research.

Abstract:
Abstract This study analyzes the characteristics of the top-100 most cited articles published in international dental journals with at least one coauthor affiliated to Brazil. A search in Scopus database for articles published between 1996 and 2017 was carried out in the 178 journals belonging to the category “Dentistry" identified in SCImago Journals &amp; Country Rank. From the top-100 most cited articles, variables related to the journal, article, and authors were collected. Annual citation averages (ACA) and relative citation ratios (RCR) were calculated. Data were analyzed descriptively. There were 75 original reports and 25 reviews in the sample. The number of citations ranged between 124 and 657 (mean=202, median=168). The papers were published in 31 different journals (46% in only four journals), none based in Brazil. The most frequent subjects (61%) were Dental Materials, Endodontics, and Periodontology, which accounted for 63.6% of the total citations. The subject with the highest ACA was Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the subject with the highest RCR was Oral Radiology. Only 12 articles were cited more than 300 times. International collaboration was present in 61 articles and funding was reported in 49 articles. The first author was from Brazil in 70% and corresponding author in 55% of the papers. Southeast (83%) and South (20%) were the regions of Brazil with most presence of coauthors. This top-100 list is presented to provide an overview of the most cited articles and aid in supporting further analyses regarding publication and citation behaviors of Brazilian dentistry.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Objectives: To identify and analyze the 100 most-cited articles in orthodontics indexed in the Web of Science Category of “Dental, Oral Surgery and Medicine” from 1946 to 2016. Materials and Methods: On hundred articles were identified in a search of the database of the ISI Web of Science and Journal Citation Reports, applying the truncated search term “orthodon*.” Records were manually refined and normalized to unify terms and to remove typographical, transcription, and/or indexing errors. Results: The 100 most-cited articles were published between 1946 and 2012, with numbers of citations ranging from 115 to 881. Of the 251 authors participating, 87.65% published a single work, while three authors published four works. Most of the authors with several citations were from the United States, although the University of Oslo produced the highest number of frequently cited works. Most of the articles were clinical studies, and the most frequently cited topic was mini-implants. It was noted that self-citation could be a potential cause of bias in bibliometric analysis. Conclusions: This bibliometric citation analysis reveals new, useful, and interesting information about scientific progress in the field of orthodontics.

Abstract:
OBJECTIVE Despite the growing neurosurgical literature, a subset of pioneering studies have significantly impacted the field of metastatic spine disease. The purpose of this study was to identify and analyze the 100 most frequently cited articles in the field. METHODS A keyword search using the Thomson Reuters Web of Science was conducted to identify articles relevant to the field of metastatic spine disease. The results were filtered based on title and abstract analysis to identify the 100 most cited articles. Statistical analysis was used to characterize journal frequency, past and current citations, citation distribution over time, and author frequency. RESULTS The total number of citations for the final 100 articles ranged from 74 to 1169. Articles selected for the final list were published between 1940 and 2009. The years in which the greatest numbers of top-100 studies were published were 1990 and 2005, and the greatest number of citations occurred in 2012. The majority of articles were published in the journals Spine (15), Cancer (11), and the Journal of Neurosurgery (9). Forty-four individuals were listed as authors on 2 articles, 9 were listed as authors on 3 articles, and 2 were listed as authors on 4 articles in the top 100 list. The most cited article was the work by Batson (1169 citations) that was published in 1940 and described the role of the vertebral veins in the spread of metastases. The second most cited article was Patchell's 2005 study (594 citations) discussing decompressive resection of spinal cord metastases. The third most cited article was the 1978 study by Gilbert that evaluated treatment of epidural spinal cord compression due to metastatic tumor (560 citations). CONCLUSIONS The field of metastatic spine disease has witnessed numerous milestones and so it is increasingly important to recognize studies that have influenced the field. In this bibliographic study the authors identified and analyzed the most influential articles in the field of metastatic spine disease.

Full text
Abstract:
This study conducted a bibliometric analysis for the purpose of identifying the crucial leadership constructs that best explain and/or define effective educational leadership in two decades (1990-2000 and 2001-2010). The study reviewed top authors in educational leadership and analyzed their top cited works to identify leadership constructs which were (a) unique to leadership works within the 1990-2000 decade, (b) unique to the 2001-2010 decade, and c) similar or different between the two decades. The study found that the leadership constructs did evolve and shift during the study period and addressed the changing demands of individuals, educational organizations, and the external environment. Crucial educational leadership constructs were the product of the efforts of researchers in educational leadership to promote effective school leadership, improve learning outcomes and student performance, and create beneficial organizational results. The findings of the study highlight the potential impact and benefit of the continually upgrading and refreshing the understanding, training, and preparation of current and future school leaders.

Warren, Nagueyalti. Alice Walker's Metaphysics. Published by Lexington Books, 2019. https://doi.org/10.5040/9798881809874.

Full text
Abstract:
Catapulted to fame in 1982 with the publication of her third novel—the Pulitzer Prize–winning The Color Purple—Alice Walker has become one of America’s most celebrated and divisive authors. With books such as Meridian and The Third Life of Grange Copeland, Walker’s writing has frequently been cited for messages in support of civil rights and feminism. Above all, however, Walker is a spiritual seeker. Her works are dominated by the search for truth, wholeness, and the spirit that connects everyone and everything. In Alice Walker’s Metaphysics: Literature of Spirit, Nagueyalti Warren examines the philosophy and worldview present in all of Walker’s writing. Warren contends that Walker is a literary theologian, citing the transformative changes that take place in the author’s fictional characters. Warren also points to Walker’s bravery in approaching taboo subjects, her generosity of spirit, and her love for humanity, which are represented throughout her poems, novels, short stories, children’s books, and essays. This analysis is further supplemented by primary sources from Walker’s unpublished material, including notes and scrapbooks. By exploring the spirituality evident throughout the author’s work, this volume shows how Walker challenges readers to recognize and understand their responsibility to the earth—and to one another. Providing a fresh, accessible look at one of the twentieth century’s most prolific women writers, Alice Walker’s Metaphysics: Literature of Spirit will appeal to both academics and fans of the author’s varied literature.

Abstract:
Pierre Bourdieu is one of the most influential and widely cited figures in anglophone Canadian sociology. Since the first decade of the twenty-first century, in particular, his theories have guided research in areas such as the sociology of culture, education, social theory, social networks, and social capital. This chapter presents a content analysis of journal articles to better understand Bourdieu’s influence on anglophone Canadian sociology. Many citations to Bourdieu are ritualistic and occasionally are characterized by misreadings. Furthermore, interpretations and applications of Bourdieu’s ideas have been limited by a methodological division of labor. Quantitative research has primarily been concerned with cultural and social capital, with qualitative and historical research placing more emphasis on habitus and fields. The authors suggest several ways to expand the engagement with Bourdieu’s work, and to move beyond the current methodological division of labor.

Abstract:
Many women writers have secured a solid place in the literary canon, while others have remained marginalized. This reference includes alphabetically arranged entries on roughly 70 women writers whose works are widely read in English, and on some 20 related topics. While some of the writers profiled are widely known, others have not yet received as much attention. And while most of the writers are from England and America, the volume also profiles Chilean, Brazilian, Indian, South African, Australian, French, and German authors. The writers selected are feminist, in that their works have challenged traditional gender roles, explored female oppression, or critiqued patriarchal social structures. In addition to providing biographical information, the entries include interpretative summaries of major works. Each author entry includes biographical information, an extensive summary treatment of at least one of her works, an list of her other major works, cross-references to related entries, and a list of works for further reading. What distinguishes this encyclopedia from the many other volumes addressing feminist literature or literature by women is the interpretative summary in each entry. The volume closes with a list of works cited. Entries are clearly written and are accessible to high school students and undergraduates.

Abstract:
What are the components of youth cultures today? This encyclopedia examines the facets of youth cultures and brings them to the forefront. Although issues of youth culture are frequently cited in classrooms and public forums, most encyclopedias of childhood and youth are devoted to history, human development, and society. A limitation on the reference bookshelf is the restriction of youth to pre-adolescence, although issues of youth continue into young adulthood. This encyclopedia addresses an academic audience of professors and students in childhood studies, American studies, and culture studies. The authors span disciplines of psychology, sociology, anthropology, history, and folklore. The Encyclopedia of Youth Cultures in Americaaddresses a need for historical, social, and cultural information on a wide array of youth groups. Such a reference work serves as a corrective to the narrow public view that young people are part of an amalgamated youth group or occupy malicious gangs and satanic cults. Widespread reports of bullying, school violence, dominance of athletics over academics, and changing demographics in the United States has drawn renewed attention to the changing cultural landscape of youth in and out of school to explain social and psychological problems.

Full text
Abstract:
This book reviews the current position in this field, which has developed over the past 25 years, designed to hold multinationals to account, legally, for human rights abuses in the Global South. The authors are practising lawyers who have litigated and led prominent cases of legal significance in this field. Although the focus is on the Global North, where most of the cases have been brought—United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Australia, France, Netherlands, and Germany—there is also a chapter on South Africa. The cases cited include claims against parent companies for harm caused by subsidiary operations, claims for corporate complicity in violations perpetrated by States, and claims arising in a supply chain context. Whilst other books have included consideration of the legal aspects of many of the cases, the focus here is on the interrelated strategic and practical, as well as legal, considerations on which viability and prospects of success depend. In addition to questions of jurisdiction, applicable law, and theories of liability, obstacles to justice concerning issues such as access to information, collective actions, witness protection, damages and costs, and funding regimes (including a specific chapter on litigation funding), and issues relating to public pressure and settlement, are discussed. Although most of the authors act for victims, there is a substantial chapter providing the perspectives of business. Since this area of litigation has developed concurrently with, and has formed part of, the rapidly mushrooming field of business and human rights, the contextual relevance of the UNGPs is considered.

Abstract:
Ezra Pound forever changed the course of poetry. The author of a vast body of literature, his enormous range of references and use of multiple languages make him one of the most obscure authors and—because of his Fascism, anti-Semitism, and questionable sanity—one of the most controversial. This encyclopedia is a concise yet comprehensive guide to his life and writings. Included are more than 250 alphabetically arranged entries on such topics as Arabic history, Chinese translation, dance, Hilda Doolittle, Egyptian literature, Robert Frost, and Pound's publications. The entries are written by roughly 100 expert contributors and cite works for further reading. Ezra Pound forever changed the course of poetry. His vast body of poetry and critical works make him one of the 20th century's most prolific writers, and his influence has shaped later poets, great and small. His enormous range of references, deliberate obscurity, and use of multiple languages make him one of the most difficult authors and— because of his Fascism, anti-Semitism, and questionable sanity—one of the most controversial figures in American literary history. Abstract:
The Oxford Handbook on Deaf Studies Series began in 2010 with it first volume. The series presents state-of-the-art information across an array of topics pertinent to deaf individuals and deaf learners, such as cognition, neuroscience, attention, memory, learning, and language. The present handbook, The Oxford Handbook of Deaf Studies in Literacy, is the fifth in the series, and it offers the most up-to-date information on literacy learning among deaf and hard-of-hearing (DHH) learners. Topic examined in this concise volume include the importance of language and cognition and the elements of phonological/orthographic awareness, morphosyntactic and vocabulary understanding, reading comprehension and classroom engagement, written language, learning among challenged populations, and the need to rethink our approaches to literacy research. With contributions from a well-known and highly respected field of educators and researchers, the volume will help all involved see the path each DHH child as an individual must follow if he or she is to unlock the vast world available when one has competence in reading comprehension. Too often, sweeping generalizations are made about all DHH readers—no matter their background, language(s), chosen modality(ies), and experience—from data on only a small segment of the overall population. Therefore, the editors collaborated with the authors to ensure that authors were clear about the research participants cited when making claims about specific subpopulations. This means readers can be relatively certain that statements made in this book about certain subpopulations in fact are based on data from those subpopulations.

Full text
Abstract:
Carnivorous plants have fascinated botanists, evolutionary biologists, ecologists, physiologists, developmental biologists, anatomists, horticulturalists, and the general public for centuries. Charles Darwin was the first scientist to demonstrate experimentally that some plants could actually attract, kill, digest, and absorb nutrients from insect prey; his book Insectivorous Plants (1875) remains a widely cited classic. Subsequent monographs by Lloyd (1942) and Juniper et al. (1989) summarized and synthesized available scientific data on these remarkable plants. Scientific investigations and understanding of carnivorous plants has evolved and changed dramatically in the nearly 30 years since Juniper et al’s Carnivorous Plants was published, and thousands of scientific papers on carnivorous plants have appeared in the academic literature. In putting together this fourth major work on the biology of carnivorous plants, Ellison and Adamec have assembled the world’s leading experts to provide a truly modern synthesis. The contributing authors examine every aspect of systematics, physiology, biochemistry, genomics, ecology, and evolution of what Darwin called ‘the most wonderful plants in the world,’ and describe the serious threats they now face from over-collection, poaching, habitat loss, and climatic change, which directly threaten their habitats and continued persistence in them. This accessible text is suitable for senior undergraduates, graduate students, and researchers in plant biology, ecology, and evolutionary biology. It will also be of relevance and use to horticulturalists and carnivorous plant enthusiasts.

Jackson, Lucy C. M. M. The Chorus of Drama in the Fourth Century BCE. Oxford University Press, 2019. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oso/9780198844532.001.0001.

Full text
Abstract:
The Chorus of Drama in the Fourth Century BCE seeks to upend conventional thinking about the development of drama from the fifth to the fourth centuries. Set in the context of a theatre industry extending far beyond the confines of the City Dionysia and the city of Athens, the identity of choral performers and the significance of their contribution to the shape and meaning of drama in the later Classical period (c.400–323) as a whole is an intriguing and under-explored area of enquiry. Drawing together the fourth-century historical, material, dramatic, literary, and philosophical sources that attest to the activity and quality of dramatic choruses, the book provides a new way of talking and thinking about the choruses of drama after the deaths of Euripides and Sophocles. Having considered the positive evidence for dramatic choral activity, the book provides a radical rethinking of two oft-cited yet ill-understood phenomena that have traditionally supported the idea that the chorus of drama ‘declined’ in the fourth century: the inscription of χοροῦ μέλος‎ in papyri and manuscripts in place of fully written-out choral odes, and Aristotle’s invocation of embolima (Poetics 1456a25–32). The book goes on to explore how influential fourth-century authors such as Plato, Demosthenes, and Xenophon, as well as artistic representations of choruses on fourth-century monuments, have had an important role in shaping later scholars’ understanding of the dramatic chorus throughout the Classical period. The book’s conclusions, too, have implications for the broader story we wish to tell about Attic drama, and its most enigmatic and fundamental element, the chorus.

Abstract:
AbstractCritics have targeted the quality of professional knowledge in policymaking, suggesting that education policy should draw on the best research evidence. This chapter examines the institutional responsiveness to this critique. The authors analyze the use and translation of knowledge sources in Norwegian policy documents on a recent school reform for basic education in Norway. A bibliometric analysis and an in-depth inquiry of the documents reveal the most often co-cited references and their argumentative use as evidence. They conclude that the reports bring together systems of reasoning that in practice are highly differentiated but in policy are aligned with each other. Moreover, evidence serves an inter-mediational role by shaping policy options connecting both policy realms and systems.

AbstractThis book is a comparative case study in the historical sociology of modern social restorations. This is a new field in comparative social research designed to extend and complete comparative historical sociological research on social revolutions. Comparative research on revolutions is a well-established research field, as at least four generations of theory have changed to date (cf. Goldstone 2001, 2014; DeFronzo 2006, 2021). It originated with the comparison of 1789 French and 1917 Russian revolutions (Shlapentokh 1999), culminating in the famous study by Theda Skocpol (1979), which is one of the most influential and cited works in comparative social research (Goodwin 1996). Puzzlingly, as yet no authors have taken into due account the fact that both great modern social revolutions did in fact end (in 1815 and 1989 correspondingly) with restorations of the prerevolutionary regimes.

Moreover, with the growing demand for software that meet complex business needs, the concept of Software Ecosystems (SECO) has emerged and opens opportunities for external developers and strategies for fostering gender diversity. A Proprietary Software Ecosystem (PSECO) is a type of SECO that comprises a common technological platform with contributions protected by intellectual property. This work aims to investigate which barriers women face in software development teams focusing on the context of PSECO and what strategies can be used to increase inclusion based on a multivocal literature review. To do so, 29 studies were selected and 13 gender barriers were identified, with the 3 most cited barriers being: sexism, lack of peer parity, and imposter syndrome. Furthermore, it was observed that external PSECO actors can significantly interfere in the occurrences of gender barriers, in addition to the internal actors of the central organization (keystone).

Abstract:
In Chapter 4, ‘Scientific Hoaxes and the Predatory Paradox: Past, Present, and Future,’ Amy Koerber examines scientific hoax articles with a focus on the weaknesses and flaws that such hoaxes can expose in the larger information ecosystem of scholarly publishing. The chapter thus reveals that scientific hoaxes further complicate any neat distinction between journals that are predatory and those that are not. Hoaxes have, in some cases, exposed specific journals as predatory. But in other cases, they have had effects beyond those that the author anticipated, exposing major weaknesses or fraudulent practices not only at journals or publishers suspected to be predatory but also at the most prestigious and well-respected journals. More importantly, publishing hoaxes have unintentionally exposed weaknesses in the mechanisms that we have long relied on to ensure research quality. For example, hoaxes have exposed flaws in even the best journals’ peer review systems, and when hoax articles continue to get cited in subsequent literature—sometimes even after retraction—they lead us to question our habit of relying on citation counts as a measure of research quality. Partly in response to hoaxes, industries have emerged around the desire to pin down the legitimacy of a particular author or publication in an environment that makes it increasingly easy for fakes to be mistaken as the real thing. For example, we now have ORCID identifiers to help us establish the identity of authors and Digital Object Identifiers (DOI) to help us pinpoint the location and verify the identity of published texts. These identifiers are becoming commonplace in academic lingo, but it is easy to overlook the fact that each of these markers emerged as a commercial development with its own complexities, nuances, and shortcomings. As we argue, these innovations reflect our desire to pin down something that is certain and real in a landscape where it is increasingly easy for fakes to circulate as the real thing.

Abstract In this Appendix section, all genera and species of plant parasitic nematodes cited in the book are listed alphabetically. The genera and species are followed by their 'authorities', i.e. the name(s) of the author(s) of the original description, in some cases followed by the name(s) of the author(s) who have published the more recent valid taxonomic name, that is, by placing the species in another genus. In such cases, the original authorities are placed in parentheses. Both authorities are followed by their respective year of publication. The most common synonyms are also listed alphabetically as 'cf.'. For each genus, the group to which it is currently assigned is indicated in square brackets as follows: Tyl., Tylenchina (Tylenchomorpha); A., Aphelenchoididae (Tylenchomorpha); L., Longidoridae (Dorylaimina); P., Panagrolaimidae (Rhabditida); T., Tylencholaimidae (Dorylaimina); Tri., Trichodoridae (Diphtherophorina).

This article discusses the preparation of meat offerings in the effort to more fully understand its practical aspects. The author notes challenges in determining whether meat offerings were raw or cooked, or roasted versus burnt, but concludes that most of the offerings in temple rituals were raw, perhaps because of their later distribution to the temple staff, but also to avoid the labor and fuel required to cook it. Because a single steer produced enormous quantities of meat, the excess was preserved and distributed or sold outside the temple to financially support the institution. Although immolated offerings are traditionally thought to be introduced in the Ptolemaic era, examples are cited from the Archaic Period and Old Kingdom. The symbolic association of the act of burning food with the destruction of enemies (Vernichtungsritual) is traced back to the Middle Kingdom when what had been a funerary ritual was adopted and adapted for temple cult.

Abstract:
Obesity represents a major global public health problem. In the past few decades the prevalence of obesity has increased worldwide. In 2016, an estimated 1.9 billion adults were overweight; of these more than 650 million were obese. There is an urgent need for potential solutions and deeper understanding of the risk factors responsible for obesity. A bibliometric analysis study was designed to provide a comprehensive overview of top 100 most cited studies on obesity indexed in Web of Science database. The online search was conducted on June 6, 2021 using the keywords “Obesity” OR “Obese” OR “Overweight” in title filed with no limitations on document types or languages. The top 100 cited studies were selected in descending order based on number of citations. The obtained data were imported in to Microsoft Excel 2019 to extract the basic information such as title, authors name, journal name, year of publication and total citations. In addition, the data were also imported in to HistCite™ for further citation analysis, and VOSviewer software for windows to plot the data for network visualization mapping. The initial search retrieved a total of 167,553 documents on obesity. Of the total retrieved documents, only top 100 most cited studies on obesity were included for further analysis. These studies were published from 1982 to 2017 in English language. Most of the studies were published as an article (n = 84). The highly cited study on obesity was “Establishing a standard definition for child overweight and obesity worldwide: international survey” published in BMJ-British Medical Journal (Impact Factor 39.890, Incites Journal Citation Reports, 2021) in 2000 cited 10,543 times. The average number of citations per study was 2,947.22 (ranging from 1,566 to 10,543 citations). Two studies had more than 10,000 citations. A total of 2,272 authors from 111 countries were involved. The most prolific author was Flegal KM authored 14 studies with 53,558 citations. The highly active country in obesity research was United States of America. The included studies were published in 33 journals. The most attractive journal was JAMA-Journal of the American Medical Association (Impact Factor 56.272) published 17 studies and cited globally 51,853 times. The most frequently used keywords were obesity (n = 87) and overweight (n = 22). The countries with highest total link strength was United States of America (n = 155), followed by England (n = 140), and Scotland (n = 130). Our results show that most number of highly cited studies were published in developed countries. The findings of this study can serve as a standard benchmark for researchers to provide the quality bibliographic references and insights into the future research trends and scientific cooperation in obesity research.

Abstract:
This bibliometric analysis investigates publications in the field of health tourism from 1990 to 2023, utilizing data from the Web of Science Core Collection, Scopus, and PubMed. The study aims to delineate the trajectory and trends of future research by examining various bibliometric parameters such as publication trends, core themes, keyword dynamics, publication year, most prolific authors, most cited authors, most frequently cited publications, countries by number of articles, journals in which these articles are published, types of cited sources, and institutional affiliations of authors. Bibliographic data was collated and presented comparatively from the databases to address the limitations of bibliometric data. Between 1990 and 2016, terms such as health, tourism, health care, and stem cell transplantation were prevalent. However, the 2017-2023 period highlights concepts like Coronavirus, global health, and medical tourism economics. This chapter provides significant insights into the existing literature gaps and enhances the understanding of emerging trends in the field.

Abstract:
In this chapter, we introduce you to formatting conventions for citations and references. Writers are obligated to cite others’ works that have significantly influenced or are relevant to their own work. It goes without saying that to include another’s original ideas without proper acknowledgment is plagiarism. Consequently, this stage of the writing process is critical both professionally and ethically. Although citations and references are inextricably linked, for clarity we deal with them separately. By the end of the chapter, you will be able to do the following: ■ Know what information should be cited ■ Know what information need not be cited ■ Use in-text citations appropriately ■ Recognize different reference formats (numerical and alphabetical) ■ Determine the appropriate reference format for your work Two Citing on Your Own tasks will guide you in preparing proper citations and references as you do the following: 17A Finalize citations 17B Compile and format references The seriousness of properly compiling and formatting citations and references is predictably emphasized in Information for Authors documents. The excerpts below serve as vital reminders of the importance of checking relevant guidelines before finalizing citations and references in your written work: Authors should be judicious in citing the literature; unnecessarily long lists of references should be avoided. (Author Information, J. Org. Chem. 2007, 72, 16A) The accuracy and completeness of the references are the authors’ responsibility. (Authors’ Guide, Anal. Chem. 2007, 79, 390 Avoid references to works that have not been peer-reviewed. (Instructions to Authors, Environ. Sci. Technol. 2007, 30) The citation of references in text . . . varies widely from journal to journal and publisher to publisher. . . . Authors are encouraged to check the author guidelines for a specific publication to find information on citing references. (The ACS Style Guide: Coghill and Garson, 2006) Most authors attend to citations and references when their work is nearly complete; useful reminders may be inserted into the text as they write—such as “cite Kopinski here” or “add ref”—but properly formatted citations and references are often added in the last stages of writing.

Marold, Juliane, Ruth Wagner, Markus Schöbel, and Dietrich Manzey. Decision-making in groups under uncertainty. Fondation pour une culture de sécurité industrielle, 2012. http://dx.doi.org/10.57071/361udm.

Full text
Abstract:
The authors have studied daily decision-making processes in groups under uncertainty, with an exploratory field study in the medical domain. The work follows the tradition of naturalistic decision-making (NDM) research. It aims to understand how groups in this high reliability context conceptualize and internalize uncertainties, and how they handle them in order to achieve effective decision-making in their everyday activities. Analysis of the survey data shows that uncertainty is thought of in terms of issues and sources (as identified by previous research), but also (possibly a domain-specific observation) as a lack of personal knowledge or skill. Uncertainty is accompanied by emotions of fear and shame. It arises during the diagnostic process, the treatment process and the outcome of medical decision making. The most frequently cited sources of uncertainty are partly lacking information and inadequate understanding owing to instability of information. Descriptions of typical group decisions reveal that the individual himself is a source of uncertainty when a lack of knowledge, skills and expertise is perceived. The group can serve as a source of uncertainty if divergent opinions in the decision making group exist. Three different situations of group decisions are identified: Interdisciplinary regular meetings (e.g. tumor conferences), formal ward meetings and ad hoc consultations. In all healthcare units concerned by the study, only little use of structured decision making procedures and processes is reported. Strategies used to handle uncertainty include attempts to reduce uncertainty by collecting additional information, delaying action until more information is available or by soliciting advice from other physicians. The factors which ultimately determine group decisions are hierarchy (the opinion of more senior medical staff carries more weight than that of junior staff), patients’ interest and professional competence. Important attributes of poor group decisions are the absence of consensus and the use of hierarchy as the predominant decision criterion. On the other hand, decisions judged to be effective are marked by a sufficient information base, a positive discussion culture and consensus. The authors identify four possible obstacles to effective decision making: a steep hierarchy gradient, a poor discussion culture, a strong need for consensus, and insufficient structure and guidance of group decision making processes. A number of intervention techniques which have been shown in other industries to be effective in improving some of these obstacles are presented.
