Vidal, i.
With this experience we seek to create a feeling of positive disposition towards mathematics. Teachers must give life to the concepts and methods so that students can enjoy the results. They can only enjoy mathematics when they relate to it emotionally, since motivation can hardly be obtained without emotion. Motivation is the energy that guides human conduct towards a specific goal. Every human being needs to enjoy life, but they also need to do something they can feel proud of. What really motivates people is success, and to succeed one needs to struggle. Teachers should guide students towards success.
It is necessary to learn and teach mathematics by working on emotions. Emotions are those short physical activations that burst within us as a response to an external or internal stimulus. Emotions drive us to do things, they are our driving force.

Full textThe significative number of students who have low academic performance, together with their consequent academic failure and the reflection on one’s own practice, lead us inexcusably to ask ourselves, as teachers, about the way we are teaching, which is the teaching-learning structure in our school and in our classes at the moment, as well as if a different teaching-learning structure could be possible and probably more effective than the one we are using nowadays. So that, this thesis analyses which are the characteristics of a collaborative teaching-learning situation, and how the use of a teamwork structure in the frame of an inclusive school for everybody, can influence the expectations of teachers, the group expectations as well as the group motivation to success. With this research we wanted to study wether the effect of cooperative learning structure is accompanied by a change in the mutual expectations that students have in their teammates, and if this change in the mutual expectations affects students’ motivation to succeed.

Full textSmokers in general population have decreased, but not in psychiatric disorders patients. APA recommends interventions to help them stop smoking, because psychiatric smokers are in greater risk of drugs use, suicide, less adherence at treatment, poorer score on GAF scale and more psychiatric symptoms. Interventions for quitting smoking in these patients are not widespread. Hypotheses: 1) Patients with psychiatric illnesses are motivated to quit smoking 2) Success rates are similar to heavy smokers 3) Psychiatric patients can benefit from the same treatments like general population. Objectives: 1) Analyze the results of a multi-component treatment for quitting smoking and how they affect on psychiatric history 2) Study adverse effects of varenicline 3) Test results of a quitting smoking program with this therapy. METHODS: Two observational studies analyze multicomponent therapy results during one year. Study 1 investigates the results of the smoking unit of Hospital de Manresa, with a total of 312 patients. Study 2 is developed in different units. A sample of 90 patients (31 with psychotic disorder, 29 with alcohol disorder and 30 in methadone maintenance program MMP) follow a multicomponent therapy for quitting smoking with varenicline. The adverse effects using this treatment and the cumulative abstinence rates and differences between subgroups are analyzed. RESULTS: In Study 1, 58.5% have psychiatric history, 23.9% remain abstinent, 16% underwent psychological treatment and 37.2% followed multicomponent therapy with psychological and pharmacological treatment. In Study 2, results show that the adverse effects of varenicline are similar to general population, the reduction of doses facilitates adherence and no recurrences or serious adverse effects are detected. Results show that 22.5% of patients are abstinent. The results by groups are: 25.5% for psychotic disorder, 23.7% for alcohol disorder and 17.7% for MMP. CONCLUSIONS: Psychiatric patients are motivated to quit smoking; results obtained are similar to heavy smokers and slightly inferior to general population when they receive multicomponent therapy. Previous attempts to quit smoking and a good adherence at treatment increase likelihood of success. Pharmacological treatments with varenicline are well tolerated and have similar adverse effects to the general population.

Full textThis study is focused on the female players fighting for a position in the ranking of the professional female players. It’s necessary to know the difficulties of this moment of life in the female players world and, what’s to more important, the reasons to give up the practice. One of the most important objectives of this work is to the reality of female tennis players in Spain. I would like to present a study of the characteristics of the trainings in female players, and discover the efficiency of the professional trainers, with the intention of providing information in this field, for the capacities advance and improvement the sport level. If the results prove it, we will need to conclude with a reflection about the introduction of qualitative variables in the way of preparing the female players. For the development of the research, we will have interviews with technicians that, at this moment, are training female players to boost the jump to the professional field. We have considered the different variables that have a certain influence. We have also taken into account the opinion of active and retired female players of the competition.
Saad, Aldosari Mohammad. "Motivation and competitive anxiety among young football players in saudi arabia: a self-determination theory approach."
The main aim of this thesis was to obtain a comprehensive understanding of young football players’ motivation, competitive anxiety, the association between these two variables, and Basic Psychological Needs (BPN) satisfaction in the Saudi Arabian context based on the application of Self-determination Theory (SDT). The thesis consists of two studies. The first study was aimed to provide valid and reliable instruments that could be used to measure motivational and emotional constructs within the Saudi context. The participants comprised 355 young male football players from Saudi Arabia, whose ages ranged between 16 and 20 years old. The findings revealed that both the Behavioral Regulation in Sports Questionnaire (BRSQ) and Sports Anxiety Scale-2 (SAS-2) had acceptable psychometric properties and showed evidence of validity in the Arabic versions. The second study included two objectives. The first objective was to describe the motivation, BPN satisfaction, and competitive anxiety of young football players in Saudi Arabia. The sample size comprised 221 young male Saudi football players ranging in age between 16 and 20 years old. The Arabic versions of the BRSQ and SAS-2 were used in this study in addition to the BPN satisfaction questionnaire. The results showed that the players recognized the concepts of motivation based on SDT with a high and moderately-high levels of BPN satisfaction, regarding competitive anxiety, the findings showed a moderate level of worry and low levels of somatic anxiety and concentration disruption. The second objective of the second study was to explore the relationship between motivation, BPN satisfaction, and competitive anxiety among young football players in Saudi Arabia. According to the cluster analysis, and a multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA), the results showed significant differences between three clusters (i.e., a high self-determined group, a moderately controlled group, and an all high-regulation group) and some variables of this study. The moderately controlled group showed significantly higher means in competence satisfaction, while the all-regulation group showed significantly higher means in both somatic anxiety and concentration disruption. Based on the findings, the evidence led to the conclusion that the Arabic versions of BRSQ and SAS-2 are valid for use in sports psychology research on an Arabic-speaking population. At a descriptive level, we identified behavioral regulations based on SDT and BPN satisfaction and competitive anxiety. On the relational level, the three derived clusters may be relevant in the context of young Saudi football. Thus, individuals with different motivational profiles might benefit the most from tailored intervention approaches.
The study analyzes the immigrant's motivation to learn Catalan in Girona, where the daily use of Catalan is higher than the Catalan mean.
The 272 participants, coming from around the world, were enrolled during the academic year 2004-2005 in one of the three public schools where it is possible to learn Catalan during the whole year (Escola d'Adults de Girona, Escola Oficial d'Idiomes and Centre de Normalització Lingüística).
The study, using a quantitative methodology (SPSS), not only shows individual differences according: cultural background (language spoken), working language, the length of residence and willing of residence, but also considers correlations among motivational variables and it demonstrates that the Gardner Model (2001) it is applicable in the study of a minority language (Catalan) in an L2 immigrant context.
Aymerich, Franch Laura.
The doctoral thesis entitled "Effect of application complexity and incentive type on motivation in interactive advertising for television" explores consumer motivations towards interactive advertising applications for television and interacting with its applications. Specifically, the influence of application complexity and incentive type on users' motivation is analyzed.
In the study, four initial investigation hypotheses are presented:
H1 In the conditions in which a free sample is offered, experimental subjects will show more positive attitude towards interacting, interactive advertising for TV and the reply mechanism compared to conditions in which more information is offered.
H2 DAL applications will satisfy in great measure expectations of complexity (perceived complexity) of the subjects.
H3 Subjects surfing high complexity application (DAL) will show a more positive attitude towards interacting, interactive advertising for TV and reply mechanism compared to subjects surfing low complexity application (Mini-DAL).
H4 No significant differences are expected in the perception of adequacy of the reply mechanism between DAL and Mini-DAL.
In order to give response to the hypotheses and objectives, an experimental study was carried out with four experimental conditions that combined application complexity and incentive type. 111 subjects voluntarily took part in the study and tested one of the applications randomly. Applications were designed for this purpose only. There were two DAL and two Mini-DAL. Motivation was measured indirectly using attitude scales in the pos-test. Scales were developed and validated in the context of the investigation. Results were analyzed using SPSS.
Results did not support first hypothesis. Partial support was obtained for second and third hypotheses. Fourth hypothesis was supported.

Full textIntimate Partner Violence (IPV) is a social problem which affects millions of women around the world and the growing social awareness concerning gender violence has triggered an urgent demand for professionals from different disciplines to challenge this kind of violence. Among this group of professionals there is a consensus that the best strategy to combat violence against women is prevention and the World Health Organization has focused significant resources during the last few years in relation to this. One of the key preventive measures and social actions in favour of victims which has a core role in the treatment of IPV is the intervention with men who batter. Batterer intervention programmes (BIP) emerged in the late 1970’s in the USA and quickly spread to Canada, the UK and anglosaxon countries. A wide range of studies with different methodological approaches and statistical analyses have forged an important background and continually enlarge literature base related to BIP. Eventhough, one of the biggest problems facing treatment programmes, regardless of their content, is the high dropout rate (Chang & Saunders, 2002; Daly, Power & Gondolf, 2001; Hamberger & Hastings, 1988). The literature review shows that treatment programmes are useful in cases where the perpetrator is aware of his problem, acknowledges his responsibility, is motivated to change and completes the treatment programme (Echeburúa & Amor, 2010; Helton, 2011; Jewell & Wormith, 2010). Furthermore, it is crucial to the success of the programme that the men have a high level of motivation to change their abusive behaviour (Miller & Rollnick, 2002). In our research we sep to analyse the factors related to the therapeutic compliance in BIPs. We study attitudinal and motivational factors previous to the treatment as well as the proactive retention and support techniques as determining factors regarding therapeutic compliance. The results obtained after analysis of the predictor variables highlights internal motivation as a key factor to the treatment programmes’ adherence and on the other hand point that proactive retention and support techniques can be useful to increase therapeutic compliance.

Full textMany different studies reflect the considerable research effort that has been put into analysing the importance of motivation in patients with mental disorders. Schizophrenia is one of the most widely covered disorders in the literature and therefore offers the largest body of information. Perhaps one of the most important findings in this field of study is the close relationship between motivational variables and patient functionality. However, the diversity of descriptive terms for motivation encountered in the literature, the variety of assessment tools and the emergence of new technologies could be hindering the complete understanding of motivational decline and functional improvement in patients with schizophrenia. The research proposed in this thesis aims to review all of the studies carried out to date on motivation in schizophrenia. First, a systematic review is conducted of studies that evaluate motivation in schizophrenia patients, to identify and analyse the types of tools and the terminology that have been used in the history of this research area. The second phase involves a meta-analysis to look more closely at the relationship between motivation and functionality, which is compared with the association between functionality and a series of neurocognitive variables. Original studies listed in databases such as Medline and Web of Science were selected based on criteria related to psychotic disorders, motivation and functionality in schizophrenia. Descriptive data on the samples and characteristics of each study were analysed, and the respective moderator variables were used for meta-analyses. Results revelated a significant growth trend in literature production, especially since nineties, with anhedonia the main term studied. In addition, questionaires were identified as the prefererred instrument to assess motivation in patients with schizophrenia. Moreover, meta-analysis showed that both motivation and neurocognition assessments were strongly associated with functioning, with correlations between motivation and functional outcomes being stronger. However, more than three-quarters of the variance in outcome remained unexplained by the moderating factors examined. Some differences between some terms used to describe motivation were differently associated with functionality. The monografy with studies reported here is extremely valuable as a means of adding to and, above all, updating and integrating the body of information available in the literature on schizophrenia and motivation, as well as gaining clearer insight into the relationship between motivation and functionality. The methodical reviews presented in this thesis will enable many experts in the field to reappraise their views and judgements, as well as marking a path for future studies. The knowledge gained through this work will also help professionals to improve clinical practice in the evaluation, intervention and treatment of motivational difficulties, thus raising levels of functionality among schizophrenia patients.
