Abstract:
Abstract This article summarizes the findings of a corpus-based study investigating assessment for learning (AfL) and its relationship to motivation in CLIL contexts. Using a mixed methods approach, classroom recordings from bilingual primary schools in Madrid, Spain, were analyzed to identify motivational strategies used by teachers. The relationship between these strategies and the AfL techniques implemented by teachers was then examined. The findings show that the implementation of AfL coincided with an increase in frequency, length of time of use, and variety of teacher motivational strategies. This led to classes in which activities were supported by a more motivational discourse. A qualitative analysis of the corpus shows that the incorporation of AfL techniques coincided with several motivational strategies for language learning. The findings contribute to an understanding of how the use of AfL techniques may contribute to integrating motivational strategies in a more systematic way in the CLIL educational context.

Abstract:
Motivation is a key element in the life of any person: it defines his forms of activity, his success and failures, the directions of his personal and professional development etc. As for the system of education in particular, motivation is one of the most important factors determining the success of teaching process: it is a well-known fact that a motivated student will demonstrate better and longer-lasting results as compared to others. The present article is aimed at the analysis of some possible motivation strategies when teaching Romanian as a foreign language in the framework of the preparatory year practical course. We believe that in this context the issue of student motivation is especially important. On the one hand, some students develop a strong intrinsic motivation, realising the importance of studying the Romanian language for their academic and professional activity. On the other hand, however, in the case of other students, for various reasons, the teacher has to make additional effort in order to motivate them. In this paper we will present some possible strategies and techniques that can be used by the teacher of Romanian as a foreign language at the preparatory year practical course, dividing them into the following groups: motivational strategies from the perspective of teaching activities suggested by the teacher, motivational strategies from the perspective of assessment activities suggested by the teacher and realisation of the motivational profile of the student.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of the paper is to present a viewpoint based on an empirical study conducted by the author, which explored the motivational techniques used by 30 chief executive officers in the context of an advancing economy like Greece that faces a severe financial crisis and evaluated the impact of such motivational tools on staff performance. Design/methodology/approach – The viewpoint is based on a quantitative survey of 30 Greek large organizations involving the leaders of the firms and 113 workers. In all, 143 responses were collected concerning the main motivational techniques used by the participant leaders and their impact on employee behavior. Findings – Overall, the findings showed that in the short-term, both motivational models (i.e. “inspirational” versus “fear”) may lead to effective organizational performance. However, the main difference appears to be related to the long-term impact of each model on firm performance. In particular, the findings indicated that “fear motivation” is more likely to lead to poor firm performance in the long-run compared to “inspirational motivation” due to increased staff absenteeism and turnover. Practical implications – The core implication of the study is that “fear motivation” should be reconsidered by business leaders, as the particular motivational approach adopted has been based on a limited understanding around its overall impact on employee performance. As the analysis revealed, a motivational model focused around empowerment, trust and individual development may lead to better organizational results. Originality/value – It informs the existing management literature about the impact of different motivational patterns on employee performance, where our knowledge is limited.

Abstract:
Introductory psychology students, 43 men and 44 women, participated in an experiment comparing the effects of cooperative versus individualistic learning techniques on approval and achievement motivation and test performance. Subjects in cooperative learning groups reported higher need for social approval than subjects in individualistic learning groups. Need for social approval was more highly correlated with achievement motivation for subjects in cooperative learning groups than for those in individualistic learning groups. Being in a cooperative learning group did not result in improved test performance, but results indicated that cooperative learning techniques enabled students to coordinate their approval and achievement motivation by presenting academic excellence as a socially desirable behavior.

The purpose of this study was to analyze motivational effects of type of instructional control on learning from computer-based instruction, according to Keller's ARCS model of motivational design. Forty-eight sixth graders were randomly assigned to either learner or program control groups. Instructional materials were computer-based instructional programs for teaching four concepts utilized in advertisement propaganda techniques. The post-test with fifteen items for learning and Instructional Motivation Measurement Survey with thirty-six statements for motivation were used. The results showed that the group under program control performed better on the post-test than the group under learner control, but there was not a significant difference in Keller's ARCS motivational factors between two groups. Regardless of type of instructional control, however, the level of satisfaction among the factors was higher than that of confidence in the instruction. Such results suggest that ARCS motivational factors in designing effective instructional control strategies can be considered.

Abstract:
This study was conducted to determine the effect of psychoeducation based on motivational interview techniques on medication adherence, hope, and psychological well-being in schizophrenia patients. There are many studies using Motivational Interviewing for individuals with schizophrenia. However, there are no studies on whether the concept of “adherence to treatment,” which is clearly shown to be corrected with 6 to 8 weeks of motivational interviewing, will positively affect concepts such as “hope and well-being,” which require longer interventions, in a shorter time. In this context, there are not enough studies in which motivational interviewing techniques are integrated into psychoeducational interventions that can be organized with more individuals. The study was conducted with a pretest-posttest control group design. The sample size of the study was determined as 150 schizophrenia patients including 75 in the experimental group and 75 in the control group based on power analysis. The researcher provided the patients in the experimental group with a six-session psychoeducation program based on motivational interview techniques. A “Descriptive Characteristics Form,” the “Herth Hope Index,” the “Morisky Medication Adherence Scale,” and the “Psychological Well-Being Scale” were used to collect the data. In the study, psychoeducation based on motivational interview techniques created a statistically significant difference in the medication adherence, hope and psychological well-being levels of the patients in the experimental and control groups ( p < .05). Psychoeducation based on motivational interview techniques provided for schizophrenia patients was found to be effective in enhancing their medication adherence, hope, and psychological well-being levels.

Abstract:
William 'Bill' Schlackman played a major role in the development of qualitative research in the UK. His experience in psychotherapy, clinical psychology and motivational research, as well as his relationship with Ernest Dichter, helped form what we know as qualitative research today. He ran various workshops on the use of projective techniques, for which he is widely remembered, as well as presenting a number of papers at MRS Conferences between 1961 and 1986. Schlackman's passion and enthusiasm for experimental research design, and the use of projective and motivational techniques in market research, helped propel qualitative research to achieve a deeper understanding of consumer motivations. His early work on packaging research can be equated with the modern practice of semiotics, and his development of sensitivity panels can be compared with online communities.

Abstract:
This article investigates how factors that contribute to the development of organizational commitment can be adjusted to take account of cultural diversity among employees, by taking the mediating effects of motivational processes and leadership into account. Survey data were obtained from two similar organizations in two different cultural contexts—Australia and Iran. The findings showed that both intrinsic and identified motivations and leadership are critical to the development of desirable organizational commitment. The introjected form of motivation was found to be the factor that mediates variances in employee commitment between the two cultural contexts. The current study explains this mediation role by referring to the different degrees to which conformity is salient across the two contexts, thereby providing managers, who are working in culturally diverse contexts, a means of understanding how and why different motivational techniques are more or less likely to contribute to the development of organizational commitment. Furthermore, the present study contributes to the existing literature on organizational commitment by comparing and contrasting the nature and prominence of employee commitment profiles in two different cultural contexts.

The motivation as one of the key indicators of the quality of higher education, as a powerful driver of the educational process, and one of the main catalysts of personal and professional growth of the student has been considered. The results of the diagnosis of the level of motivation and structure of the motivational complex, carried out with the help of two psychological techniques, modified by the authors of the article, have been briefly outlined and displayed. Possible reasons for the “lack” of motivation among students of management specialties have been identified. Meanwhile, it has been offered to look on the lack of motivation a little wider, than the authors were able to identify in the analysis of sources on this theme. Possible directions of optimization of motivational structure of future managers have been studied. The vector of further studies of educational motivation as an indicator of the quality of management education has been outlined.

Abstract:
Abstract In the city of Guayaquil of Ecuador is located the Samanes National Recreation Area. This protected area is very visited for its diverse ecotourism activities that are carried out in this site. The empirical work was developed in situ, using a questionnaire and applying the Factorial Analysis as multivariate techniques tries to identify the different segments of the demand. The results show that there are three clusters of visitors: the first group is made up of “multiple motivational tourists”, with high motivation in all variables such as enjoying the environment and pure air, playing sports and enjoying public recreation spaces. The second group is made up of “indifferent tourists”, who present average scores on the motivational variables, as enjoying the environment and pure air, enjoying the public recreational spaces and performing sports. The third group is the largest and are known as the “Ecoturists”, who have high motivations in variables such as enjoying the environment and pure air, enjoy the public recreation spaces, sports and activities in nature and low motivations in the other variables. Carrying out segmentation studies in ecotourism in a recreation area, contributes with important information so that the public institutions in charge of the administration of these protected areas and the providers involved could supply products according to each segment of the demand.
